The Sussex Privacy Tour Continues

Apparently Prince Harry will appear on the BBC's The One Show tonight in a filmed segment, talking to the families of World War II survivors who suffered burns in battle. (You'll be able to see it here shortly after broadcast, which begins at 1900 British time, or 2100 Eastern European Time, which is the time on this blog).

He's a little late for VE Day, but better late than never, I suppose.

The suspense is terrific. Will he be filming from his laundry room again? Or will he sit in the beige chair beside the generic houseplant?

Meanwhile, Lifetime has announced its third Harry & Meghan movie, tenatively titled "Harry and Meghan: Escaping the Palace."

Which one are you looking forward to most?

Comments

I actually think releasing the book now is a good idea. Get it out and over.
Will it bring more sympathy and support for MM? I doubt it but I look forward to hearing comments especially from Nutty & commenters here.
@WBBM,

Who is JCMH? I’ve been trying to work it out but I can’t.
Red Molotov has an appropriate T-shirt/mug slogan,:

"Stop Making Stupid People Famous T-Shirt

Stop making stupid people famous be they influencers or reality TV stars. They don't need encouraging."

Also, perhaps we could use our own version of "Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups" with ref. to sugars.

https://www.redmolotov.com/stupid-famous-tshirt&search=stupid%20
JMCH = `Just Call Me Harry'
Besides quoting JCMH, it's a sideways nod to Richmal Crompton's , Just William books -

Curiously, this is what Wikipedia says about the series:

"Crompton's fiction centres around family and social life, dwelling on the constraints that they place on individuals while also nurturing them. This is best seen in her depiction of children as puzzled onlookers of society's ways."

Life gets stranger and stranger.
@WBBM,

Arh, thank you, I had no chance at guessing it! Lol

It's hilarious that Meghan reportedly wants the book published "NOW!" to overcome reports that she's a diva.

Browing on various blogs last night I noticed that old list of top clothing expenditures for 2018 for European royalty and it still staggers me. It's old news now, but newly relevant given Meghan's court case in which she implies there was no reason for all the criticism.

"Pregnant Meghan spent a whopping £427,972 (€478,089) on fashion, nearly five times more than any other royal - and that’s not including bespoke pieces where the price isn’t known.
In contrast, the next highest spender was Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who spent £92,125 (€102,914)."

Meghan spent six times as much as Kate, who was also pregnant that year. Yes I know Kate already had royal outfits to fall back on, maternity and otherwise, but nothing that would account for such a vast discrepancy in expense, especially considering the gulf in status between them.

It's useful to do a bit of looking back now and then, where we have hard facts to support why Meghan now has such a negative public image. I know I'm preaching to the converted, but it keeps us in practice for rebutting the sugars before the court case gets going.

@lurking with spoon LOL at Harry gnawing on book! maybe that is what happened to his teeth :D

having two birthdays a year would be awesome until you hit 40 haha

I really feel Archie's real birthdate is months not weeks from May 6th but then I didn't think they were living at TP's house 🤷

one thing I discovered hanging out with my friend in Europe is "name day" it is like birthday celebration but celebrates your first name on specific day. never heard of such a thing but think it's really cool. wonder if they do that in UK
Teasmade said…
@lucy--the name day has to do with the day of the saint you are named after. So it is a custom more to do with a religion (those that have saints) than a country or entire continent. I just checked--Saint Lucy's day is December 13.
Lucy,

No, never heard of name day in Britain, just ones birthday, to celebrate the day you were born.

@Ava C.

You've made valid points about MM's incredible amount of spending especially considering the many years of austerity imposed on the great UK public.
Alas many MM supporters cry racism with any mention of her spending on clothes,PR, Frogmore etc.

I'm less concerned with her "sugars" than with certain members of the media/Twitter/public figures /politicians (eg. UK parliamentary members writing that letter supporting her against colonialism/racism) pushing their own agenda. Sadly, it is the where we are at present.

How did Megsy pay for £427,972 of fashions and jewelry?
From Cornwall Duchy rents>>> To Prince Charles>>> To Hapless >>> To Meghan to squander as she sees fit.
Or did Meghan just send Charles the bill? I think the former.

It's kind of humorous that immediately after the marriage Megsy says to herself, "Its time to cash in! It's time spend like crazy on clothing." Now all this expensive clothing sits as unwanted as a copper bath tub at Frogmore. If those Megsy duds are still in the UK the BRF should sell them on ebay to pay for Frogmore.

She managed to make herself so toxic anybody associated with her will be finished. One article in the media about clinging up to the "diva" who slanted the Queend and wasted millions of taxpayers money while bad mouthing the said taxpayers is enough to cut anybody's aspirations.

Meghan is poison now.
@Wild Boar Battle-maid: I've also read about the rumors that she was a 'working girl' even while she was working on Suits, and if the rumors are true - why did she do it? I know that some young women do this because they're struggling financially, especially actresses who are having trouble breaking into the business, but from 2011 onwards, she received a steady paycheck from Suits. Maybe the Suits salary couldn't quite cover her expensive tastes? Her blog, The Tig, was named for her favorite wine, an Italian red called Tignanello, which retails for $126 a bottle (!) at my local liquor store. Spend money like that and yes, I can understand the need for extra income. Maybe a tell-all book will either confirm or refute the rumors.

The DM has another article today on poor, poor Harry, so sad and lonely, without any purpose in life. Are we supposed to feel sorry for someone who callously turned his back on his family, his friends, his country and his military connections? Even if he does decide to return to the UK, I don't think he will be welcome. I know MM won't. And after what they did to us in Canada, I think I can speak for all of my fellow Canadians in telling them that we don't ever, ever want to see them again in this country.

Ah, that explains it. After becoming "royal" she had access to as much expensive wine as she could hold down.

Perhaps her sloppy dressing was just a sign of a drunk. People did joke she looked like a hangover just out of bed.

Harry did find a soul mate, didn't he.

Another story about "rudderless" Harry with no friends, no job and conference calling all his buddies/charities back in the U.K. One has to wonder why he isn't busy forging a relationship via Zoom with the military/charities in the US since that is where he said he wanted to be!

He is lacking skills, but he does have knowledge (presumably) about the military, hunting and horses. I know that equine therapy is becoming more popular - teens/adults working with horses/mental health expert to help them with a range of issues like autism/adhd/addiction/impulsivity/ptsd. First off, he could probably use some equine therapy right about now!! Long-term, he could become a patron of an equine-therapy organization and combine his horse/military mental health interests in this type of work.

If he sticks with the mental health focus within the military, there are probably many different people/orgs he could develop an association with if he would just quit whining about the press and commit himself to listening and learning in his areas of interest!

I agree that MM is toxic and has "markled" many. She and H are becoming more and more irreverent but I wonder if that might bring out some acts of desperation or a return to the fold.

Let's hope she doesn't "markle" the royal family. Harry returning at some point albeit in a diminished role might be acceptable - MM returning would be problematic.

@xXxXx

I think Meghan borrowed those clothes and charged Charles for them, pocketing the cash. It would explain the tags, the out of season clothes, the terrible fit and the rumours of the increase in Dorias bank account (although how anyone would know that is beyond me). It may also be part of what they are living off of now. She would have planned for "getaway cash" especially since she was so offended at the Royals not having a salary. She probably saw it as "only fair".

There were stories about Meg being upset with Victoria Beckham for herbalist policy of never lending clothes. And the British designers who she dissed would have known the Royals are not supposed to borrow or merch clothes. So she didn't wear them. Despite that being her job.

There are similar stories that she threw a "Sayonara Zara" party, I believe, after she got the job on Suits (don't know for sure about this). No more off-the-rack fashion for her. If true, it might explain MM's messy finances. While appearing to live a life of luxury with expensive wine and travel, she did not own her home and I'm not sure she saved any money. I think her clothing choices as a royal definitely reflect her attitude towards prices. Appearing in a ballgown for her engagement pictures was a red flag, as was the nearly $100,000 caftan she wore in Morocco.

If they always planned on going to LA, they should have immediately gone their and rented a nice house in at least a decent neighborhood, while looking for a house to buy. we’re still in the middle of covid, job loss, a financial crisis, and social distancing for most people. this will probably go on for a bit more. the heros of the day are the everyday people, first responders, healthcare, cashiers, stock clerks, truckers, farmers, factory workers, not thirsty celebrities looking to sell their victimhood stories for more PR.

I don't disagree about the couch-surfing. But even leaving aside M's apparent taste, I'm not sure even Harry would be happy in the kind of house $2-3 million buys in LA. Doria's inherited 1400 sq ft 2-bed, 2-bath house is currently valued on real estate sites from about $875,000 to $1.1 million. And the lot is only 7,525 sq ft, less than 1/4 of an acre. No pool.

They shouldn't have to spend $15 million, but I'd think they'd need to spend much more than $2-3 million. And then there's taxes, etc.

I wonder if house-buying during the "review year" was discussed during the MEGXIT meetings in the UK.

I believe the rudderless Harry article is more setup for a return to UK, maybe with an Army post to “save” H, and I hope a divorce. Although who drives Katie Nicholl is not entirely clear.
@xxxx,

Another article about how rudderless and lonely Just Harry is in LA? Well, what did he expect after deserting friends, family and and country, and leaving without any real goals or job? This is just another story to drum up pity for him, and by association, MM.

When he speaks of his glory days in the Army, where there was such camaraderie between his fellow soldiers and him, does he remember the names he called a couple of these so-called Army friends? Does he recall abandoning the memorial concert for the Lion King premier? Does he remember that The Invictus Games were started for him to dispel his bad-boy image?

Colonel Tom, at 100 years old, has shown more more moxie, strength and love of country and the Army than Harry ever could or will.

When Harry speaks of his Army days in such glorious terms, he sounds like every over the hill high school football player, reliving the his great pass that won the big game, a tiring story after a couple of decades. Those stories get old fast.

Does anybody really believe that he and William are on good speaking terms?

I agree that the "rudderless Harry" comments seem to be part of a co-ordinated campaign. But it's also the sort of thing anyone could guess. He's in a foreign country with nothing to do and only one friend. (?)

Meg wanting to rush the release of her book is another example of her putting haste above effectiveness.

How in the world are they going to distribute physical books right now? In the US, the East is usually the top book-buying market, and much of it is still locked down. So are major urban areas with a lot of Black women (Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles). Weren't Black women supposed to be a big part of Meg's market?

I do realize that people can buy physical books on Amazon as well as eBooks, but for an impulse book buy like this, having the physical books available not just in bookstores but in Target, Walmart, and other major retailers is key.

Not to mention her PR team needs time to plant reviews in magazines that often close months in advance.

She's shooting herself in the foot again.

I may have mentioned my following comment before, but your comment about M’s expensive red wine hit a thought in my head. M copies/copied Kerry Washington, while Kerry was playing Olivia Pope in the huge hit “Scandal”. Kerry, as Olivia Pope, was obsessed with expensive red wines, wore white belted coats, high heels - M copied her top to bottom in May real life. Unfortunately for M, Kerry became a A list cable star and more. Her career is everything M wants/wanted to have, but Kerry has talent, and better PR and agents.

Yes, M wanted Kerry’s life, career, talent and beauty. I bet Harry thought M in “Suits” was a star like Kerry Washington. Instead, he got the opposite.
Today, many of the sugary papers/mags are running a story from Paul Burrell, Di's butler, on his opinion that the Diana would've clashed with MM as they are so much alike (and that's why he married her - as we've all said frequently). Nevertheless, we reckoned MM wouldn't've stood a chance in the first place. Di would've seen her off pdq.

Meghan Markle's secret self-defence training: Martial arts, kickboxing
12 May, 2020 10:30am
2 minutes to read

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, enjoys martial arts and kickboxing.

Jorge Blanco - who also works with Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky - trained Meghan when she was in Toronto, Canada, working on the television series 'Suits' and revealed she was a big fan of combat sports.

Jorge told Spain's Vanity Fair magazine: "I trained Meghan when she was in Toronto during the shooting of the series 'Suits'. We did a little bit of martial arts, a little of boxing and sometimes kickboxing. I never really thought she could end up being a princess!"
"I had a great time training with her because she's super nice and speaks Spanish, with an Argentine accent. I don't know if Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan around now [in Toronto]. My schedule is pretty complicated, but I wouldn't mind training both of them if she called me."

Duchess Meghan and her husband Prince Harry stepped down from senior royal duties earlier this year, but it has now been revealed the couple didn't "expect things to turn out the way they did".

The Duchess and baby Archie, who turns one today, reading his favorite book “Duck! Rabbit!” for the campaign Save with Stories to raise money for hungry children.

Author Omid Scobie, who is penning a new biography of the couple, 'Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family', said: "It's been a long time in the making. The last few weeks have been quite a challenge getting it all ready in time for the deadline. It feels nice to finally be able to talk about it after quietly beavering away on it for a long time.

"This project started about two years ago, and there have been twists and turns that no one expected. This is something no one expected. I don't even think Harry and Meghan, who by their own account struggled with the realities of the situation, expected things to turn out the way they did."

She's really going out of her way to sugar-coat herself, isn't she?

Makes me wonder how much of a pasting she gives H - didn't he hint once that he was afraid of her reaction if he did something she disapproved of?

(Sorry, a few mixed images there!)

Thinking of who pays for Meghan's clothes, I read years ago that the Foreign Office used to steel itself for the bills to come in for Diana's clothes on overseas tours, as they had to pay for them in those circumstances. When used for official overseas events.

So that would cover Meghan's infamous Moroccan beige caftan and the lovely but OTT Dior cocktail dress worn at an overseas event where Harry stuck to his basic chinos. She may have intended the caftan for the Oscars, but she wore it for a routine BRF foreign trip. So we the UK taxpayers paid, unless the system has changed and I don't think it has. The BRF are past masters at getting us to pay where possible.

Megsy has always been Las Vegas Lite for Harry. Harry had a great time there until photos escaped and it was cut short. Megsy is Vegas 2.0. My reasoning is:

(1) Loose and sexually available (immediately!) like the girls he met in Vegas
(2) She is a West Coast girl, from Los Angeles which is very close to Las Vegas.
(3) American, so not as familiar, not as easily calculated and understandable as the British women he had met. Girlfriends and the close encounters.
(4) Exotic given her Afro-American heritage.
(5) For years Harry has been sentimental about Africa. Megs evokes this. Harry sees himself as the Africa hand in the BRF

I agree she is a lite version. But now that we see the married version of Megs and all the grief they are putting themselves through, this guy was a well-liked popular Prince before her! Surely, he will see the light, or a pretty younger escape and all bets are off. He’s all wrapped up in her for now, but I’m looking forward to when Harry has his coming of age moment and starts to see her for who she is, which is actually incredibly beneath him. Everyone, but him, sees he married down. I’m sure he was sweet talked and manipulated and identified on many screwed up levels with Meghan. Eventually, though and especially, men with access to money just want to have fun. Unless she magically morphs into the hottest, most intelligent and genuine person around him over the next few months there’s just no chance her value to him continues.

Neither of these people really want a ‘family’. If they did, they would definitely prioritize that quietly. Once this catches up, it’s over.

@ nutty, These mid-box retailers (i.e., Target etc.) are, with the exception of amazon, the biggest retailer of these sorts of books. California with its 40 million people is still on locked down and L.A., her current hunting grounds, is on lock-down for another three months. Rates of Covid infection there are off the charts. I live in Northern California and we are slowly thinking about reopening. But then my county and those around me went hard core and our infection rates fell accordingly. L.A.? Have to go to the beach, man. And they are seeing the worst rates of infection in the state. It’s pretty horrendous.

Her only possible avenue to online sales is through a barrage of interviews lined up on talk shows. People ARE watching T.V. Oh wait, They aren’t filming from the studios. I guess she could FaceTime with someone like Ellen. The biggest talk show boost would have come from the Oprah/King connection. If she can (or her PR can) manipulate a few big names to get her to push the book, then it might have modest sales. Also, unemployment is California is looking at 24% of the population being out of work due to Covid. Who in the holy hell is going to buy a book like that when people are now looking at going hungry. You can’t buy her stupid book with food stamps. She disgusts me. Every single week, she sinks lower and lower in my eyes., something I didn’t think possible even six months ago.

And meanwhile, back in the UK, the royal family working and non-working members, continue to find ways to do public service and support wherever they can:

https://theyorkprincesses.tumblr.com/

When I came across the above post, I had to look at all the photos before I realised it is Eugenie and Jack!

I wonder why the Sussexes delivering food for the Angels organisation came across as so tacky and contrived pap walks but these photos of Eugenie and Jack brings a smile to my face? Is this bias on my part or am I picking up clues from the photos?

With more conscious analysis, I can read the following in the photos:

* Eugenie and Jack are equal partners who are used to working together as a team (well, they have been together for over 10 years!). With Meghan and Harry, she takes charge and follows her instructions.

* Eugenie and Jack are highlighting the organisation and their roles as volunteers for a day (they are standing with other volunteers being briefed by someone and are showing the work environment). The Sussexes could have done the same (photos or a video of the organisation's headquarters and the people there) but the photos that emerged were all about them and there was no public statement to give the organisation the support that the attention of a royal should.

* I get the sense that royals like Eugenie and Jack are delighted when they get an opportunity to get out and go and do volunteer work, despite spending lockdown in luxury accommodation. These are people who are used to having busy lives (all of them) and this is their way of finding new ways to work and keep busy. Meghan and Harry seem to look for opportunities to use for PR. (Eugenie and Jack get no public funding so they have no need for PR so this is genuine.)
Fairy Crocodile said…
@Sandie

I don't think you are biased. I asked the very same questions to myself. The explanation I came with is the following:

Traditional working members of the RF do not need to promote themselves in commercial sense. They are already a brand, a huge one. They do work within the existing frame to support the Queen, the country and the monarchy. Each one has a place, a job, a schedule, a meaning and value already.

They operate within certain standards, that are very high. They are supported by a huge and well run machine that makes sure everything is up to that standards - from napkins to candles to paper bags. Every single piece of food royals for instance deliver to somebody will be of a very high quality.

So they act as we expect royals to act.

The Harkles who left the set with a scandal are in totally different situation. They need to create a commercial brand, be visible and do things that make them visible. They need our attention more than we need them. That is why everything they do is such obvious raw PR.

They don't have the budget, and most importantly, the apparatus to act as royals. And yet they compare themselves to the rest of the royal family. It is inevitable comparisons are not in their favor. Their value and prominence have changed, Harry doesn't know what he really is and Megsy never learned to act with class in the first place. How could she? She spent less than 500 days within the family and fought against them all this time.

Every time they do something for the charity we will assume it is self promotion because they have not done anything to prove otherwise.

Remember this video:

https://twitter.com/i/status/1260225050457841665

It seems that Sophie, William and Kate have all used that editing function that softens and blurs (and thus hides wrinkles and so on), just as Meghan did in her video.

Just wanted to point that out and then consider why my response to the two videos is different and ask if it is all because of dislike of Meghan?

I notice that with Meghan and Sophie it has a drastic effect in that they look very different (William is the same William with or without that filter and I think this is our prejudice in how we see women and men and how our expectations of each are different). Although Kate has obviously used this editing function, she comes across as the same (i.e. I have to look for the effect of the filter to notice it) and I think this is because her personality shines through no matter what she is wearing and so on. Sophie I do not know well enough to be able to see the real her behind the image. Meghan, despite bombarding the public with hundreds and hundreds of images of her, does not have an authentic public presence.

It is more obvious with Meghan as there isn't an authentic Meghan there to engage me (or, the authentic one who is there is very annoying ... whiny, pity me, arrogant, disrespectful shallow ...). Sophie gets a lot of media coverage and is a really nice person and that is how she comes across ... nice.

You have just answered your own question. "...personality shines through". Bingo

We obviously do not know Kate, Wills, Sophie, Megs and Harry personally but we base our impressions on their behavior.

Kate and the rest of them have not let us down representing us and never insulted us. Neither they behaved with open hypocrisy.

Megsy and Harry didn't stick to the same standard of behavior. Hence our perception of them is so different.

Should be fun; perhaps we can suggest pointers for them.

I must thank Nutty again and again for this sane forum. What would I do at the end of the day if I didn't have the sage musings of people like @WBBM, Ava C, Jocelyn, Raspberry Ruffle, Ozmanda, Sandie, and the rest of you too numerous to name in this space.

I'd also like to point out that I love the education in history and civics, and yes, even morality that we can find here every day in your beautiful writing; all of you too numerous for me to name right now. Though I'm rather quiet on this blog, and known, if at all, for my slight insider knowledge of Hollywood (esp. Markle's horrific reputation within it), I'm a published novelist and will be ready, able, and eager to critique her (fictional) new book, Finding Freebies, or some such!

Still missing Elle and Hikari. Where are you? I hope and pray you're keeping well.

Curious, do any of you have any outrageous theories as to what M$H could possibly have in the Scobie book that might be interesting to the public?
I could see M$H boohooing about Kate's sapphire ring. From what I understand, Harry chose that ring but gave it to Will when he proposed to Kate. I am sure Meghan is just turning in her stomach every time she sees that ring. Meghan desperately wanted to be "Diana 2.0" and "The Peoples Princess". I wonder if Meghan every tried to convince Harry to get it back for her? That Dimwit probably would try if Meghan told him to. Meghan didn't get what she wanted once again, no grand tiara, no royal jewels, or the iconic ring. 😭😭😭
I would love to hear your theories.

>>>The Harkles just need to move to New Mexico or Ohio or somewhere out of the limelight, but that wouldn't fit MM's agenda.<<<

Speaking for Ohioans, we take a hard pass on the Hazardous Harkles. We've got enough problems already . .and I'm sure I speak for the hard-hit residents of New Mexico as well. Megsy's sanctimonious brand of 'wokeness' wouldn't play well in Ohio . . . She wanted to get back to Cali so bad, she can stay there and rot amongst all her like-minded best friends of whom she has so many.

I read a hilarious article in People (aka Meghan's Kneepads) about the great birthday party Archie had in L.A. with 'his two *best friends*' (emphasis Kneepads')

Turns out the amazing birthday party with 'family and best friends' was a Zoom call with Doria and the 'dogs' . . Guy the Beagle and whichever rent-a-Lab replaces Bogart who was allegedly at Cory Vitiello's house in Toronto . . before 'he' turned up being dragged on a leash during the infamous 'spontaneous hike' in Vancouver with Dead Doll Arch.

Was Tyler Perry cool with having two dogs on his plane? What about the obligatory quarantine for domestic animals being imported from foreign countries?

Lies, more lies. Meg cherishes her dogs the way Oprah cherishes hers. My money's on no dogs in L.A. Most likely no Archie or Harry either. Stand-ins . .she's been known to rent multiple standins for herself, Hapless and assorted canines. Our girl is not interested in reality--only her 'curated' version of it.

@SirStinx,

Maybe the long-festering animosity between Catherine and Meg, the reason the dastardly duo had to be kicked out of Kensington Palace is because Megsy tried to take Kate's engagement ring? Or orchestrated an argument agitating Harry to 'get it back' for her, the 'rightful' owner, in her own eyes.

Food for thought.
Maneki Neko said, I've just seen that Lady Colin Campbell's book will be released ‪on 25 June‬ (apologies if this date has been mentioned before). Could this be the reason MM wants her book out now? Perhaps she wants to get in there first before we read a far more truthful version of events. Is she running scared? Just a thought.

I personally think it has a a lot to do with it! Megsy isn’t a mañana type of person, she’s a do it right now or I’ll scream and stamp my feet!

I’ve pre-ordered my copy anyhow.
@SirStinxAlot

I'm interested in hearing people's theories as well. My feeling is there will be a lot of twisted wording about how MeMe wasn't allowed to do as she pleased.

I believe she had planned to leave before they were even married and use the Royal connection to fast track a Hollywood celebrity lifestyle and the book will point out all the ways she was denied this destiny.

If you're pushing 40 and you haven't made it in Hollywood yet, its not going to happen. Especially when you flush your Royal connections.

@Hikari,

I don't think M is a responsible pet owner but the dog M left in Canada was a yellow lab-shepherd mix, not a black lab. He was 5 when she left him and she'd had him since he was a puppy. Here's a picture https://people.com/royals/meghan-markle-dog-photos-names/?amp=true. I think the black lab was acquired shortly after they married.

Dogs coming from Canada or the UK to the US wouldn't require quarantine. https://www.petrelocation.com/blog/post/bringing-dogs-and-cats-into-the-us-simple-guide
Certificates from vet and rabies shots would do it. I do wonder though if TP was thrilled to have dogs in his plane and in his house.

Well, we saw the pics of Harry and the black lab who was swimming in the pool at TP’s house with Harry throwing him tennis balls.

@tatty,

Yes, I don't think there is any doubt the dogs are there. I just wonder how happy TP is about it. I love dogs but they ARE hard on a house. If they are well-trained and neutered they usually don't chew on stuff or urine mark. But even well-trained dogs can get "GI upsets," they do shed (in pools too), their nails can scratch floors and leather furniture, they track in mud and dirt....

We are referring to The Lady Colin Campbell book (about the duo) coming out in June, not ole Megsy’s and Harry’s piece of rubbishy nonsense, I wouldn’t dream of wasting my money on that. Lol

Considering how much Harry loved Nottingham Cottage (or so I read) I doubt he really cares about having his own extravagant abode. I think that’s a Meghan thing, and he only knows super rich people so this is where he is in life. Remember his mantra is ‘what Meghan wants, I get for her’ or whatever it was.

So Harry on his own, like most men, isn’t particularly extravagant. He wears old shoes and the same shirts. Her Ex was a slob too. She likes the same sort of guy.

I think Harry would be suited in a cottage by the beach. I think he’d be fine with that, whereas Meghan would screech about Archie and ‘security’ and other nonsense and he would say, you’re right, let me call Charles as we don’t want to die. Then he calls Charles, talks about diana, and gets a nicer home.

Also, when Harry talked to the press on his tours, in confidence, about wanting a normal life away from royal life, I’m pretty sure he meant like his Trust Fund friends (like mischa nonoos husband). The kind that don’t have continuous obligations and will inherit extreme wealth and can do whatever they want all the time. What he really meant was that he didn’t care to represent Britain and fullfill his duty. Which is now ironic he is still attempting too.

Maybe he’s one of those people who have to experience things to actually understand them? Sure looks that way.

I think the pandemic is going to be their excuse to come back to the BRF. Or push for the halvsies arrangement. They just can’t make money in this climate.

I've just pre-ordered Lady Colin Campbell's book on my Kindle (Amazon UK). I do hope Lady C's sales far outstrip the other Meghan book. You know, the one that may as well be billed 'the authorised biography'. Why should any rational person want to read the one Meghan wants us to read? I no longer believe a single word or action or PR release from the Harkle camp or their secret representatives.

I can truly say I welcomed Meghan at first but she trashed that comprehensively, entirely by her own actions and behaviour, and I mean things I could see with my own eyes. I didn't need 'biased' reporters to influence and change my opinion. I did it all by myself, simply through watching her disgrace our royal family, spend obscene amounts of money in an age of relentless austerity and then desert our country. I can now add to that a still greater degree of antipathy, watching her with that poor baby. And I don't mean Harry.

LA Mayor declared that the city won't fully reopen until there is a cure. (How stupid, but he said it not me.) I find it hysterical that Megs and Harry moved there during the pandemic and now have no end date to their stay-at-home orders.

I'm completely not surprised Megs kept a diary while being royal. Just goes to show you what her plan was from the beginning, and why her taking pictures in KP makes sense. She has always planned on spilling secrets. I'm sure William & Kate will take the brunt of her insults in the book. (Although, William will inherit the Duchy that *is* currently Megs and Harry only sort of money, so it's not the brightest move. Clearly she is hoping to have made loads of money via wannabe Goop-ing, the book and selling speeches before the Queen dies)

Didn't we hear that "Finding Freedom" (barf) was canceling pre-orders via the publisher? I think it's hard to demand it be published sooner since that is happening. I'm sure she wants it published immediately so the Royal Family can't block any part of it. There is zero chance of me buying that garbage as the title alone makes me gag. And there is a less than 1% chance that I'll change my mind about her.

Ava C said…
@Lucy - you know I still don't see why anyone would want to live in TP's house. It looks so cold and about as welcoming as Meghan holding Archie. Not a family home that's for sure. Still, I doubt Meghan will notice that.

I think people are correct that there will be a lot of how she was denied to follow her real potential (for fear she might overtake other's popularity), others were jealous, did not understood her and felt intimidated by her - which leads to her being smacked down unfairly from all directions. Her one true support was JH (which might make things interesting if they divorced).

We may get a litany of specifics of how this person or that person failed her or said something unkind. It will be that they were trying to set her up to fail. If she does admit to a mistake, it will be explained away that she was given no or bad information so she could not help but not be right (so really not her fault) or that they made such a big deal over something so small which makes them petty not helpful in how to avoid future mistakes (over invested in small stupid stuff).

We will not hear about people trying to help her decode messages like you need to wear a hat.

If we hear about rumors such as the air freshener, they will be along the lines of I tried to make a joke, lighten things up and they thought I was serious. Things like the I can taste egg or the bump left right sways simply will not exist to be explained away. Alas, those which do not appear will need to be in a different book - one she had no control over.

Racism will be big (that is a big deal in American press). Which makes me think they will be playing for the American audience which is more blissfully unaware of the ins and outs of the BRF protocol she kept breaking and therefore more likely to accept it as true and offer sympathy she won't ever get from the people who grew up watching protocol explained on their telly (unless she is still convinced that if only they could hear her explain it all, then they would flip to her side ... possible. People can convince themselves of most anything sometimes).

It will be interesting to read about the Hollywood connections before they met, at the wedding and who/how they are mentioned after the wedding, the baby shower, meet the baby, tennis, flying around Europe, finding the Canada house or after they fled to LA. Who is still around to make it into print? Who was there and now not mentioned ever in the book?

What also might be interesting (MOS, are you reading this?) what they and the others have supposedly done to drive them away. Getting an early copy (before all the revisions from the palace) might be an interesting part of a counter suit as it may confirm sworn testimony but conflicts with others testimony before the trial has finished. Trying to undo that, once it is out there, would be like trying to put water back in a bowl using a fork.

@Hikari: Totally in agreement with you. I don’t believe that the dogs, Archie, or Harry are with MM. This upcoming book. They want to "show" the world why they had to leave. You couldn't just give a presser on your way out the door? Of course not, no money in that.

And for goodness sake. They've been married less than two years, she's done less than a year's worth of royal work (maternity leave does not count nor does the charities she dug up that fit her agenda not those gifted to her to be patron) and now they've had (or is in the works)
1. three TV movies (all of which were utterly forgettable)
2. three or more PR puff pieces a day (how much does that cost?)
3. and now a book

Really what have they accomplished to rate one movie much less three and a book?

This is like the "dangling Archie"papwalk.
She says it up without Harry knowing?

I’m always amazed by m and h’s stupidity.
The constant stories aren’t building interest.
I’m sure Harry has dirt on various family members. Every family has secrets; addiction, adultery, abortions, etc. Spilling things in a book at this point is a desperate move. They’re still being supported by Charles.
The smarter thing would be to wait and write a tell all with a big advance from a publisher. Perhaps part of the mexit deal included a prohibition on writing a book?
The two of them are despicable and Harry’s ongoing betrayal of the family that is financially supporting him is disgraceful

@KCM1212, that's a very interesting post.

Had to laugh at this quote from the Sebastian Shakespeare piece in the DM:

Meghan "is a good writer, with a nice turn of phrase,’ he tells me. ‘Remember she studied English in her first year at Northwestern College.’

First of all, she's a terrible writer. Secondly, everyone takes a freshman year English course. Third of all, interesting that the term used is "college" and not "university", which Northwestern is - Northwestern University.

Our UK Nutties can confirm this, but my understanding is that a "college" in the UK is something less than a "university." (Americans often use the terms interchangably, "I graduated from college in...." when they mean a university) but UK and Commonwealth people do not. Why is Sebastian Shakespeare calling NU a "college"?
Nutty Flavor said…
Finally, Sebastian Shakespeare writes, "For I can disclose that, according to one of the Duchess’s friends, Meghan — guest-editor of British Vogue in 2018 — kept a diary during her time in the UK."

He can disclose that? Sounds like an exclusive that was fed to him. So much for not co-operating with the tabloids.

I'm still amazed that she stepped on her "Elephant" documentary publicity with that stupid jeremiad about no longer co-operating with the big 4, only to do it anyway.

I went back via my browser history to look and they've either been removed or I imagined seeing them on there. I'm almost sure it was on there though, as I remember thinking at the time that maybe the reason they were featured there was because it wasn't UK media. It definitely mentions the screens in relation to the dog photos.

The screens went up shortly after Harry was photographed playing with the couple’s black labrador in the grassy backyard.
the dog photos are at

side-show-markle.tumblr.com

it also shows how they were taken from within TP's home, not taken by paps.
@Nutty, my morning-brain hasn't woken up enough yet to draft a proper post on it, but this link should help with explaining the differences:

Interesting. The most obvious conclusion would be that Meg took the photos herself, tried to sell them for some much-needed cash and got shut down, perhaps by Tyler Perry's people.

I suppose it could have also been a TP employee or a workman, depending on who is allowed in the house during these corona times. That angle wouldn't have been accessible to a delivery person.
@Hikari said `she's been known to rent multiple standins for herself,'

That thought had crossed my mind but I haven't picked up on anything specific. I've had my doubts about Harry well.

(Good to hear from you again, Hikari - the truth will out one day, I hope we can speed the process.)

I definitely read early on, ?before the wedding?, that she was making notes at KP and posting her manuscripts to the US. Were they labelled `To be Opened in the Event of my Death'?

The dog's privacy? Hilarious - would a dog give a tinker's cuss?I imagine she wouldn't want anyone to call out to him by name; if it's a stand-in dog it'd give the game away perhaps if he ignored the call. If he's really hers, might just be jealousy if he responds to anyone else, apart from those she approves of.

As for `Finding Freebies', would she really trust anyone else to write it? I bet she's at least the lead author.
For those who have noted this book and can’t find it etc.

I’ve pre-ordered the hard cover book by Lady Colin Campbell from Amazon UK. It’s listed as £24.99 and the release date stated by Amazon is 25th June 2020.

Photographs of Harry playing with his dog in the backyard of the LA mansion so they are there. There is something quite sad and lonely about those photographs, and perhaps the tarot reader I follow is right: they spend little time with Archie as parents and energetically the marriage is over and they put on an act for the public. Such lovely weather you would think they would both be outdoors with Archie. Even if it is time for his nap, he could do so on a blanket under a tree. (No, I do not think Meghan and Archie are sitting oin a deck or patio watching Harry - he was out there playing with the dog on his own!)

College or University? I've often needed to play down where I was educated after leaving school by referring to when I was `at college' - if it was assumed I'd been at what was then called a `teacher training college' all well and good.

Nowadays, `college' very often implies a post-16, FE institution - not so good.

As it happens, both universities of my youth were collegiate, so I wasn't really fibbing.

It would be interesting to know Lady C's financial situation. The Sussexes, like Donald Trump, have a large group of haters ready buy an unflattering volume about them.

Also, in for a penny, in for a pound. If she's going to get online abuse anyway, she might as well come up with a very juicy volume.
@Nutty,

She IS a terrible writer. Her writing is overly flowery and wordy.

A friend of mine is an English professor at a university that is comparable to Northwestern. She's shown me some of the freshman and sophomore essays from her students. You wouldn't believe how incapable they are of stringing a proper sentence together. I was shocked that they were able to graduate from high school, much less make it into a university. Maybe MM received a good grade from her English professor by the mere fact that she was able to spell correctly.
I think Lady C is a pretty tough cookie - despite pulling out of IAAC-GMOOH. She must be, after what's she's gone through in life. I hope this won't be the last straw for her though.
I'm wondering what excuse Megz is going too use, uprooting her baby only 5 months postpartum to take him all over the west and squat. It better be something goooood, for this too have been 'their only option.' Again, why not settle your situation before you have a baby....
Here’s a synopsis of Lady Colin Campbell’s 2019 book at:
https://www.waterstones.com/book/people-of-colour-and-the-royals/lady-colin-campbell/9781916131705
(My spacing)

“With her royal insider's knowledge and historical insight, Lady Colin Campbell turns her attention to People of Colour and the Royals. She herself is strongly vested in the subject of colour, being the proud product of one of the most prominent families in the multi-racial world of Jamaica.

"When she was born there in 1949 that country had, although inadequate, more progressive and inclusive race relations than anywhere else. In her first eighteen years she lived through the transitional period from colonial heyday to independence in 1962, to the subsequent political and demographic changes. Jamaicans hold very dear the concept of their national motto 'Out of Many One People', and she understands the nuances whereby all Jamaicans, irrespective of colour, are regarded as members of the Black Community.

"Her lack of prejudice allows her to examine the sometimes difficult past with welcome objectivity and refreshing candour, and Jamaica has continued to spearhead many of the positive changes taking place in larger countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.

"Her book is full of welcome surprises. It takes her unique heritage, courage, insight and experience to write a book as illuminating and hopeful as People of Colour and the Royals. It is a work which she hopes will go some way to healing the divisions of the past and consolidating the unity of the present into an even more cohesive future.”

It sounds as if she's in a very strong position to refute accusations of racism but I expect MM will try.
I use college and university interchangeably.

As an American, I'd never say, "When I was at university," but I would say "At the university I attended..." Or, "When I was in college..."
Sometimes, I just say, "When I was in school...," meaning a university.

People often ask, "Where did you go to school," meaning which college or university did you attend.

It does get confusing.
@Magatha Mistie.

I remember only too well a `supervision' (ie one-to-one tutorial) early on in my university life where a don did a Quiller-Couch on me, tearing me apart for my writing style. From that day to this, I have never consciously started a sentence with `However'.

`It must come after the first emphasis', she said.

`Hang on,' I thought. ` I'm reading science, not English'.

I still squirm at the memory.

Btw. 'twas Q-C who coined `murdering one's darlings'. https://tinhouse.com/murder-your-darlings/

It's been documented that MM was caught sneaking around KP, not just taking notes but photos as well. I think she was escorted out of KP because of that. She might have been taking notes for a book but the BRF could stop publication in the UK - remember A Verdade Da Mentore (The Truth of The Lie) about Madeleine McCann? The McCanns blocked publication in the UK. The book is available but in Portuguese and I think other languages (although I did find an online version in English).

Re Lady Colin Campbell's book, as I think it's delivered by Amazon, surely they can ship to the US? I looked at their international delivery and the USA is listed as a country they deliver to. In any case the Kindle version should be accessible (?).

If she was mailing her diary snippets to the US, I hope that she wrote, "Personal and Confidential," on them before mailing. That's one of the arguments the MoS is using to refute her lawsuit. She didn't make it clear that this was personal and confidential correspondence to her father by not putting that on the outside of the envelope.

I think MM is currently blackmailing the RF.

Today's DM about her keeping a diary, this is common straight from her. She is leveraging insider information against money. I really do hope the RF will call her bluff, because I highly doubt she has anything newsworthy to say. They kept her at arm's length for a reason and gave her anything she wanted, because they knew who they were dealing with.

The only things she could disclose that would shock anyone, would come from Harry. I don't think she's ready to play that card yet.
Don't know about Amazon - being bounced into Prime was enough to p*** me off.

Waterstones will send abroad:

She is so hated, her book will be widely available through hundreds of posted PDF's, or excerpts in the DM, wishing 5 seconds of it being released.
Murky Meg shows several shots of Harry and the dog. In the first few shots, Harry is happily playing, but in the last one, a closer photo, he turns around and scowls at directly at something. Murky Meg thinks these photos were taken by a drone or a helicopter. She believes he would have shown more shock on his face if it was a helicopter, so she believes it is a drone.

I think it would have to be a drone because if it was a helicopter, he would have had to look up, but he's looking straight at whatever took the photo. He would also have had to look up if it was taken from an upper window or balcony.

Murky Meg uses geometry to point out that she believes that it couldn't have been taken from a window or balcony within the house.

This is well worth watching. What's your guess, after you've watched her video?
re Murky Meg's latest:

I'll go with the drone. Less sure about who was behind it, not Harry I'd say.

Could well be another of her stunts.

Comments are interesting - allegations about booze and weed.
And the megavirus that eats one;'s brains.
I wouldn't buy that house even if a) I loved it b)had the money - one shake of the San Andreas fault and it could slither into the canyon.
@WildBoar,

Do you the the videos of Harry looking increasingly bad/drugged out/going crazy, are all a put-on by The Harkles to gain sympathy from the public and to try to get more money from PC? All along, I thought I was witnessing the destruction of a human being, but now I wonder if Harry is acting as if he is falling apart and trying to fool the public into sympathy for them.

It could be an outdoor security camera. The Sussex's only income outside Charles allowance seems to be photos every week. Nobody is that interested or desperate to take a photo of them. Poor paps aren't going to rent a helicopter to look at the top of the house. You can't exactly sneak up on someone, those things are loud and can be heard a mile away.

@Unknown and @JocelynsBellinis

Thanks for the Tumblr link to the photos of Harry and the dog and for mention of Murky Meg's video.

It does look like the photos were taken from inside. Reminds me of the old horror story from the era of landlines that ends with "Get out! The phone calls are coming from inside the house!"

The pool photo with the upright support on the right side is interesting. It could be the photos were secretly taken by a TP employee or an employee of H&M's. But I doubt it. And Murky Meg could be right they were taken by a drone. (Not a helicopter...even the dog would have reacted to that noise IMO and my experience with dogs.) While I remember some geometry, I don't know enough about drone camera angles to guess. BUT Murky Meg's argument that the dog-in-the-pool photo couldn't have been taken from the open veranda isn't convincing to me. She argues it wouldn't be possible for the support to be on the right in a photo taken from from the veranda as it's holding up the left corner. Seems to me it could have been taken leaning out the side of the open veranda or using a selfie stick device. I don't know the angles though and don't know the height of the veranda.

Surely H&M and TP could tell immediately where the photos were taken from. Even lame brain Harry should have been able to tell. His work in the Army suggests at least he has spatial skills.

I don't really see though if these photos weren't taken from the trail (and clearly they weren't) why put up the ugly fences? Drones could still get some shots.

Wonder why the Australian newspaper pulled the photos? They looked liked papped shots when they decided to publish them. Are drone photos verboten while long lens shots from a trail aren't?

I think M's writing is pretty  low-level and filled with expressions of overwrought adolescent angst. She also plagiarizes and for me that permanently removes her from inclusion in the category of "good writer."

For whatever reason, Sebastian was determined to compliment her writing skills. It's true that at many US universities during the first two years a student may be considered to be in "General College" even if a major has been chosen. During those years the student concentrates mostly on liberal arts general requirements-- English Composition, Math, History, Science (often but not always Biology) and do on. At Northwestern, students complete their general requirements with the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Somehow he turned that into Northwestern College. I'm not sure he was throwing shade at NWU or at the US system. I think he was trying to act like he had expert knowledge and understood the US system as he thought that would make his judgment of M's writing sound similarly expert. But he failed miserably.
@SirStinx,

I agree about the helicopter. The sound would boom off of those canyon walls from miles away.

If it was from a security camera, using the angles that Murky Meg used, the only place I could see it coming from is the trees by the pool, but I'm no expert on that, to say the least.

I think it is a drone, but now @Wildboar has me wondering if it is a setup photo by The Harkles to gain sympathy that they're being harassed, money for moving to a new house or money for more more security.

I don't trust anything about them.

It’s entirely possible he was being sarcastic, he’s British. Sarcasm isn’t easy to detect in the written form. British sarcasm can be extremely subtle at times, not forgetting a play on words another thing Brits do that many foreign nationals miss.

Re: ‘Harry’ & ‘Dog’

This is a set-up by MM. She’s been complaining about paps since she was still living in Toronto (even though the police said that the incidents never occurred.) Has she EVER actually been papped by someone who she didn’t call? She cannot stand their irrelevance, hence these photos and the ugly privacy fence to make it seem as though they’re being hunted. (Sort of like Diana.) Secondary goal is probably to get more money from Charles.

I don’t believe that this is Harry. I think it’s the actor that she sometimes uses. In the recent video, his hair was brown and it was a totally different style. These photos are very fake, just like the dog-walking photos.

That's true. And as an American I sometimes miss British subtleties. Saying someone took a first-year university course in Composition isn't exactly like saying she earned an advanced degree in rhetoric and composition. Still, because of the rampant plagiarism, I wish her writing would be damned by more than faint praise (assuming that's kind of what that was.)

Ha! When I was in Army advanced training (after basic training) in journalism, I had a Marine instructor who said the same thing!

He also said, "Never say '... said So-and-So,' or 'laughed So-and-So'. 'Said So-and-So' sounds like 'Quoth the Raven', and dilutes the impact of the statement. And how can you 'laugh' words? Always use 'So-and-So said.' If you want to add texture, say 'So-and-So said with a laugh'."

(P.S. This instructor was a dead ringer for a young Mr. Spock, both in looks and demeanor, LOL)

it went on to say Brits rarely, if ever, wear sweatshirts of University they attended. I found it interesting, author made it seem like it was faux pas to do so, like a braggart . here it is done all the time. just something, for some reason, I felt like sharing. can't find article but made me chuckle as it had a what would be considered offensive in Britain vs US and Meg nailed like 5/10

Harry = $6

I have zero sympathy for anyone famous that chooses to live in LA and expects privacy.

Having said that, California has stricter "pap" laws than other states. So, since these do appear to be taken from the property, I'm guessing that is the reason no one has published them. I'm guessing the papers are afraid of being sued because the pictures invade their privacy as they were taken by someone inside the residency without permission. If the photographer is on public property that changes everything. Hence why they put up the tacky screens.

If you want to live in private life, there are many ways to do that in the US. LA is literally the last place on that list though. Staying in England would've been the best option for privacy. I never saw a pap photo from their time there.

Look at Matt Damon, currently in Ireland, where the local residents are protecting him and his family.

But for Harry, who claims to have mental breakdowns at the sound of a shutter click, this must be a living nightmare. So why did he agree to live there?

Re: "Studying" English in her freshman year of college

It is typical of MM to twist a required step into some type of accomplishment. Most American universities require several English classes to graduate. I think I had to take 3 or 4. And if she provided this soundbite herself, then she's committed a faux pas, as prestigious American universities would never use the term "freshman year." We say first, second, third year etc.
lizzie said…
@CookieShark,

I generally agree but when I search the Northwestern site for "freshmen" I do get a number of hits. Many related to team sports where most US universities (so far as I know) still use freshmen, sophomore, etc. But not all related to sports. First-year is more common these days but freshmen is still used. And really, sometimes that term fits. It's hard to know what to call a 2nd year student who under the old system would still be a freshmen (but prestigious school may not have many of those, especially with grade inflation!)

Starting my day in the US to learn from the DM:

1. Meghan speaks Spanish with an Argentine accent with her personal trainer. (She was in Argentina for 6 weeks?)

2. She baked Archie a smash cake, called family (who is she speaking to?)

3. She reportedly keeps a diary. Threat, threat.

I am so sick of her and Harry.

Lady Colin’s book will have an American version and a U.K. version. For books like these, the editions often come out At roughly the same time, but sometimes there is a huge lag. I’ve waited for the American edition of mystery novels for as long as 6 months. For Scoobie’s book, I assume they want the versions out at the same time to pump up sales.

I think the “freshman English” remark was a snark by Morton and very funny.

Hi nutties! Long time reader here but I don't post too often. First I find it hysterical that nouveau riche. Tyler Perry shows he has zero class. It's funny to see a gigantic ugly house with a huge paved front courtyard with a little bitty fountain. It actually made me laugh. I don't think Meghan will divorce Harry until he's 40 and comes in to another inheritance payout from the Queen Mom. I don't believe she can touch the inheritance UNLESS they have bought things like a home , car etc with it. Then she can claim half of that. So wait until he's 40 and spend some time talking him into buying big ticket items with it so she can grab half. About that time she may encourage his drug use do she has grounds for divorce . She may also go the "abuse route. Mental, emotional or physical who knows but she will use it. I also think it's hilarious ( DMs favorite word) that she's having a complete diva tantrum to release the book right away so she can prove she's not a diva. It's definitely related to lady C's book. I remember JH saying last month that he will absolutely not have any bashing if the royal family and yet here we are with a tell all . I think they had to promise not to write a tell all during ng the transition year and this is her way if doing just that. "Not our fault". By the way I saw the picture of Harry y'all talking about outside in his dirty old gray shirt THIS MORNING when I giggled Harry and Meghan to see the latest. The caption was "Shock or planned?". I just looked and it's gone now. Interesting. I don't think Harry will ever ever be happy. Even if he gets counseling. He wants to cherry pick in life. He wants the adulation of royalty and the ranks he had in the military but he doesn't want to work. Same with Cali. He himself has always loved Hollywood celebs and he is free from duties and likes that. But he's lost respect and finding royalty just doesn't have the cache in the US as it does in UK. If you combine utter arrogance, lacking intelligence and absolute laziness you've got a person who won't be happy no matter where he lives.

True! And, in the case of your prof, "gallows humor" is what almost literally gets them through the day … altho, even non-war correspondent journalists, almost all of whom are quite jaded and cynical at the absurdities and cruelties of life, tend toward dark humor as well.

But then there are always fun headlines -- "Take the Monet and Run" (from a Newsweek article about an art theft back in the day) to "City unsure why the sewer smells" (South Haven, Mich., newspaper) to the classics from the Weekly World News -- "Two headed man runs for mayor against himself … and wins!"

Not sure if you remember the WWN -- alas, they're only online these days, but still covering the *important* stories -- "Roman historians announce: Gluten killed Caesar!" (read the accompanying story at https://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/179238/gluten-killed-caesar/)

I'm not worried about Lady Colin Campbell coping with Meghan's army. She IS tough. You have to be tough to take on the memory of the Queen Mother, and her own life has been tough as far as I understand it, so she'll be fine. If anything, it will put her on her mettle even more.

About Meghan perhaps making a plausible case for non-UK readers in her own little epic, she's already blown herself out of the water for all but the most idiotic folks, because she kept making the same basic mistakes over and over again, and continues to do so. No excuse possible that she didn't know, that no one told her, that the English were too nuanced for her to understand etc. Everyone was shouting her shortcomings from the rooftops after the first couple of months. (As we've said, many of us gave her several chances before we formed our current opinions. We allowed for a number of mistakes before we realised she was taking us for a ride.)

With the shocking news today that UK excess deaths now top 50,000 (above those expected for this time of year) the Harkles' search for public sympathy becomes ever more obscene. They seem to be in the news every day or so at the moment and every time the great British public sees their names - at least the DM-reading section and the Telegraph, covering opposite ends of the spectrum - they sink further into the mud.

Their housing woes particularly get me, since my family is still stuck at the sharpest point of selling our house in England and paying for a new house in Scotland. I can see this brief window of activity in the English housing market closing again just as a brief Scottish window opens, and then they can reverse next time. The 'four nations' that make up the UK are straining at the seams. If I met Meghan just now, shaking her until her too-dazzling teeth rattled would be my most meaningful way of getting in touch with my feelings. I apologise for any offence caused, but these are trying times.

Harry's Hair - it's long because he has been in lockdown for several months and probably needs a haircut like the rest of us! Also, our hair loses color as we age. If you look at pictures of Meghan's brother, Tom Jr., he had bright red hair as a youth, but it is more brown now like the Harry picture.

Given the recent stories of LA celebs doing their own house and childcare "chores", I assumed house staff of the rich and famous were sheltering-in-place in their own homes, not that of their employers. So, it would seem unlikely that a staff member took the Harry picture from inside the house. Probably another ploy by Meghan in which her puppet performed.

There is so much the Harkles could be doing, quietly and behind the scenes (and, no, I am not being cynical when I say I do not think they are doing anything that is not 100% self-centred) ..

* Injured vets in the UK and USA are probably struggling with lockdown (practically, emotionally and mentally). Surely Harry still has the influence and connections to put together some kind of 'angel' network so that someone checks on an injured vet every day and gets them any help they may need. (Not that others don't need that kind of help, but this is where Harry has history.)

* The pandemic is still in its early stages in Africa, a place where lots of people have HIV/AIDS and, for many, ARVs are not suitable. (In 2018, in South Africa, the most developed country in sub-Saharan Africa, 71 000 people died from an AIDS-related illness, which is over 200 a day. The figures for drug-resistant TB are the same.) How about recruiting his wife to be her bolshy (but can be charming) self in assisting him in getting an 'angel' network together to help provide protection for millions who need it in sub-Saharan Africa (a place of safety, nutritious food)?

@BluebellWoods (oh, I would love to see those today!)

I have a few favorite British/SCottish authors that I follow religiously and it's not at all unusual for their books to come out a few weeks or even months before being available in the US. I assumed it had something to do with the book tour in support of the book, but I could have just made that up. My head hates mysteries like that.

Lately, one publishing house has limited the ebook version to just one copy to libraries for something like 6 months after release, which strikes me as really shortsighted. What it has accomplished at my library, at least, is that they are refusing to buy more copies once the limit is raised. I see that they are trying to force a bit rather than a borrow, but libraries have to be a significant source of revenue for an author, and enraging them seems a bit silly. Also, since many readers can't afford to buy every book, it could cost the author readers. I wonder how their authors like that policy.

@wizardwench

I wish there was a code by which you could give us the title of a book of yours. I would love to read your work. I enjoy it so much here.

Actually, I worry a little about Megs and Harry coming to their senses and "flying right" as my grandmother used to say.
I would so miss the insights and writing style of so many of our posters. Like all bibliophiles, I truly enjoy the way an author can put a few words together. What a gift that is!

Of course, the chances of those two pulling themselves together is nil, and if they did, @Nutty will find us another fascinating topic to discuss. I hope.

WTAF? Are they crank calling associations now? That is just pathetic!

And I'll bet I know who "took over" the meeting!

And again...a UK organization.

The source is Katie Nicholl. Does anyone believe her? Do you think the Harkles are using her to plant this story (via an intermediary because Katie Nicholl is one of those who was involved in the hacking of phones and harry is suing over this historic episode in tabloid journalism)?

Lady Colin Campbell’s New Meghan Markle Bio Will Be a Royal Disaster

Lady Colin Campbell promises to "reveal all" in her new Meghan Markle bio. But her "tell all" promises to just "tell all lies."

Hello!

I mean, I knew Meghan was bad but now it's being released that she kept a diary about the Royal Family?! This is being leaked either by her camp to threaten the family or by the Royal Family to flush her out? What does everyone think? I posted this prior to reading back so I will read back shortly. I was just so aghast at Meghan. And Harry. The reports of his jealousy, pentulance, etc towards his family were apparently very, very true.

Hopefully any fan base that Meghan has will read that story and finally see the truth.

@ Sandie, as usual the Harkles ambush another organization. It seems they were too polite to tell them to buzz off. The RF supported nurses, so naturally the Harkles ambushed the teachers. And took over the meeting!

@Sadie What would JH cintribute found this old 2017 Prince Harry dropped from English exam in Germany for 'mumbling'

Pupils complained they couldn’t make out a word the prince was saying

The Royal Family’s elocution is not good enough for Germans, it seems. A recording of Prince Harry is to be dropped from English exams at German schools after pupils accused him of “mumbling”.

An online petition calling for the exam to be changed attracted more than 43,000 signatures, with pupils complaining they couldn’t make out a word the prince was saying.

A recording of a speech Prince Harry gave about Aids at a children’s centre in Lesotho, was set as a listening comprehension test in the German equivalent of GCSEs.

The Royal Family is highly popular in Germany and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle frequently appear in the newspapers

And I'm guessing Bernadette Giacomazzo, of the VAN article is a Hearst employee as well. The list of publications she contributed to are the usual suspects, People,USWeekly, Teen Vogue. Although she is the CEO of her own marketing and publicity firm.

Nothing subtle about her, is there?

Over-thinking the whole HAMS lives, lies, and stupidity, one sentence from William would shut them up immediately. If William’s family is slighted in the least by the HAMS in any publication, William can say “You know, sometimes I cannot believe I have a brother named Prince Harry.” Cue up the DNA, James Hewitt, Harry’s past, and more. Or say “My father and grandparents are shocked by a son and grandson they have always supported, fighting back on the untrue rumors about my brother’s royal connections.”

health charity by taking over their staff meeting via video call from Tyler Perry’s $18M LA mansionPrince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle, 38, surprised staff by taking over meeting Ricky Neal of the Crisis Text Line, a mental health

By Chloe Morgan For Mailonline

Published: 17:54 BST, 14 May 2020 | Updated: 19:11 BST, 14 May 2020

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised a group of mental health workers after the couple tuned into a staff Zoom meeting from Tyler Perry’s $18million LA home.

Ricky Neal, who works for the Crisis Text Line in Atlanta, shared a photo of a staff video meeting on Thursday, where the duke, 35, and duchess, 38, were royal guests.

‘It’s not everyday that Meghan and Harry jump into your staff meeting & champion the work you do! Blessed to still be working during these crazy times!’ he said in an Instagram post.

The royal couple made the call from their ultra-luxurious Beverly Hills hideout that belongs to Hollywood tycoon Tyler Perry

I used to be a member of one of the ATL's contributory associations when I started my teaching career, as an as an `assistant mistress' in a grammar school (an 11-18 school for brighter kids. Some still survive, for all that they are considered non-pc in some quarters.)

The Mail seems to have got its underwear tangled up - we weren't mental health workers. Assuming we are talking about the teaching union, my reaction, as somebody has already said, was `WTAF???For crying out loud!'

Neither of those 2 idiots know the first thing about the publicly funded school-system in any part of the UK. Just because they've been to school, they think they know it all.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8181059/The-Royal-Family-share-touching-tribute-nations-teachers-support-workers.html?

I agree- it must have been this that they reacted to.

Do they sit there in LA Lockdown, wondering `Where can we make nuisances of ourselves today?'

Literally CACKLING!!! at these! My little dog Pixy is looking at me like I've gone around the bend! https://www.liveabout.com/best-anthony-weiner-headlines-4122699

Tried to stay on topic by looking up funny Harkle headlines, but alas, no one seems to want to bother ;-)

(Markle sparkle debarkle -- Duchess stricken with foot-in-mouth disease) … (yeah, pretty lame, must put thinking cap on tighter)
I find it deeply ironic that she bangs on about being `authentic' when we see her as completely inauthentic, a mosaic of conscious-chosen themes copied from others, with no authentic `Self', phoney from the top of her wig to the soles of her badly-fitting shoes.

Earlier today, I came across a passage in Goldberg's Liberal Fascism, (p 371) which seems relevant:

`Heidegger (echoing Nietzsche) argued that a truly authentic individual chooses his own path, whether it conforms with conventional morality or with some individually manufactured morality. Even the right choice is wrong if it is made under the influence of others. To "forego normal choice and to adopt those offered to me by the world or other people...is the essence of inauthenticity"

This seems a high-flown way of describing the attitude of both Harkles - both simplifying it to `I'll do as I want. Nobody tells me what to do'. Incidentally, or perhaps significantly, Heidegger was a member of the Nazi party.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seeing more articles which not only talk

The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really quite impressive.  This award, polo, speech, speech,
