The Queen Speaketh

For those of us following the Duchess Meghan drama, one of the most common questions has been "Why doesn't Queen Elizabeth do something? Doesn't she care about her legacy? Is she hiding her head in the sand?"

An answer to this question came in today's issue of Mail on Sunday, which directly addressed Meghan's decision to go watch her friend Serena Williams play tennis in New York City instead of joining the Queen and Charles at Balmoral:

If the couple’s absence from Balmoral might have initially seemed as merely disappointing, now it has all the appearance of an outright snub.
The Mail on Sunday understands the Queen is ‘hurt and disappointed’ at a time when she likes to bring her friends and family together.
The annual Highland holiday is the Queen’s favourite time of the year and she was, according to a source, looking forward to ‘a few days of merry chaos’ with the great-grandchildren, including Archie.
It is understood Her Majesty is already ‘baffled’ by Meghan and Harry’s inability to steer clear of PR calamities, and is concerned that her beloved grandson and his new wife are failing to listen to their team of advisers.

"Hurt" "disappointed" and "baffled" are key words here, as well as "failing to listen to their team of advisers."

Queen on blast

Unlike weepy make-up artist Daniel Martin, the Queen does not do emotional interviews with Gayle King.

A clear message shared to an extremely well-read media outlet (and one that, significantly, does not have a paywall ) is as much "on blast" as the Queen can get.

Meg may claim not to read the papers, but Harry most certainly does. This story was a direct and public message to the Duke of Sussex.

Eye on Harry

The article went on to make clear that the Queen has her 'eye' on Harry, a direct slap-back to rumors that, at age 93, she has checked out of her supervisory role.

The Queen, who has always been close to Harry, is now said to have been keeping a ‘close eye’ on his household.
The monarch is understood to believe that the Sussexes’ diminishing popularity and frequent mishaps could have been avoided if they had taken the advice of her own trusted team.
The feeling among the Queen’s most senior courtiers and those at Kensington Palace is that Harry is taking too much for granted and is not listening enough, preferring to make publicity-grabbing gestures such as his barefoot appearance at the recent Google climate change retreat in Sicily.
Her Majesty’s private office is providing her with regular updates on their affairs.
More worrying still, sources are suggesting that, for the first time, there are differences of opinion emerging between the Queen and her grandson.

In the passive-agressive world of the British Royal Family, this is hot stuff.

Reining in Andrew

It's also significant that it comes on the same day as a report that Prince Charles is finally reining in his misbehaving younger brother Prince Andrew, which is an appropriate and probably long overdue role for a future monarch.

Charles reportedly insisted that Andrew apologize after a row with a staff member, although goodness knows Andrew probably has a lot more things to apologize about.

What do you think will happen next?

The woman is obsessed with bananas.

I think they are a subliminal throwback to happier times about various yachts when she was a HYT (Hot Young Thing) . . 10 years ago. Anything phallic in shape is going to set off reminiscences for her, I imagine.

Avocados probably have some sexual connotation to her as well.

Marie, I was thinking the same thing about that dress. She wasn't trying to show she's down to earth, it was all she could afford or JCrew were the only ones willing to give her something for free. LOL.

IMO, the dress is not bad, something many have in there closet, but again, not something for this occasion. She looked like any teacher at school or mom out shopping. If I was going to be sitting within inches of Anna W, I'd have my best day dress on!
Her knees looked rug-burned(red) as opposed to bruised.

It should be a joke?! I bet Kate/Zara/Camilla never held and fed Archie...

Hikari. I agree that the blue dresses really suit her.

I think it was Yankee Wally that said that she wanted to claim one colour as her own - Kate's colour is blue, Fergie's is red and Camilla's is white. Meghan wanted emerald green to be her own trademark, so to speak, hence the desire to have a tiara with an emerald for the wedding. She wore a lot of green at the beginning, but emerald green doesn't suit her as much as the blue did.

@Nutty - almost choked on my soup with the 'Fetch' comment. The rest of England: "She doesn't even go here!"

PR people at that level routinely charge $900-$1000 an hour. $6000 is lunch money for them.

When we find out who has been paying for this Sunshine Sachs activity - which is at least $1 million based on what we've seen so far - we'll know a lot.

As I replied to the blind, I think Enty is just throwing a lot of stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

It's no shocker that Sarah is as invovled with Epstein as Andrew is. And it's believable that Anne is having an affair, although I know of no evidence.

But whenever the William and Rose gossip comes up, you can see Markle's greasy little fingers on it.

I watched the footage of Charles' birthday party ages ago to try to work out why H&M left early (and it did look as if they were told they would be leaving now thank you very much). Really couldn't see why this happened. All seemed low key. Does anyone know? It was all very odd.

That Enty blind is interesting, implies William's father is not Charles (Diana was 'close' to Juan Carlos of Spain if rumours are to be believed).

And Anne is cheating on Tim Lawrence? Could be true.

And Fergie is a massive grifter? Tell us something we don't know.

But yeah. everyone is a bad person except Megz.

Great points Bardsey :) I'll go along with that.

Yes, it managed to be both bitchy and whiny simultaneously.

You put a LOT of thought into that Bardsey, and it does explain somethings. Maybe even the rumor that Sophie is caring for a baby.

@Nutty, in the Page 6 article it states that Cringe is buddies with someone high up at SS. And that said buddy is handling Cringe's account, personally. I would assume that they've worked something out, just like everybody else (from celebrity world who have no reason to defend them) Cringe & Ginge have going one, these days.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...

The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
