Open Post: The Sussex Announcement

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they are stepping down as senior Royals.

Supposedly the announcement, which was made on Instagram, went ahead without informing the Queen in advance.

There are already many comments discussing the Sussex announcement on the previous post, but let's continue the discussion here.

Appeasement is not something you do with a malignant narcissist, but I don't think the people sorting through this mess know what they are dealing with.

Gosh, she has shown her true colours in full glory. She really is all about the money and fame and attention and being able to dominate and control everything, and there seems to be no restraints with her.

And she is not smart at all because destruction may get you attention but you end up alone eventually, and lose everything. Geez, being part of the royal family is the securest place to be and she not only rejected them but burnt a lot of bridges in doing so.

Quite right KayeC. The 'young royals' previously known as the fab 4 are approaching 40. In fact Meghan may already be there. To my 15-year-old niece and her friends they don't figure at all. Especially given the hypocrisy over green issues. Additional travelling for H&M, their staff and security, wholly unnecessary (as was moving to Frogmore and making 5 dwellings into 1) is utterly damning in young people's eyes. H&M think they're woke (hate that word) but they're absolutely not. Same goes for 'female empowerment' which I gather is to be one of their main themes going forward. I don't know how Meghan can even mention those words.

Glowworm here: entertainment of the day is being provided by @you know who being forced to play ‘whack-a-mole’ with all the encouraging stuff our sensible bloggers are submitting. Don’t worry, my dears, it will all be ok. MM is only doing this because she was being kicked out on her butt pads. Her input in negotiations was not requested...or allowed...so she ran off back to wherever. PC and PW are talking the idiot dimwit back from the edge as we speak. All the talk of influential people lined up to give her money and fame is just PR bullshit. She wasn’t sweating like the pig she is for nothing yesterday. My advice is ‘scroll on by’ any comments that try to tell you otherwise. Lay your sweet heads on your pillows tonight with happy thoughts as you envision the one(s) who deserve(s) a kick in the pants, gets it.

Not sure if this has been picked up here but only came up 30 mins ago in DM, after midnight UK time:

***** Prince Charles could pull funding from his son Prince Harry and Meghan Markle if they go ahead with their plans to step away from royal duties.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex this week said they wanted to become 'financially independent' and claimed they would stop receiving money from the Sovereign Grant, which covers around 5 per cent of the couple's costs.

But earlier today sources close to the Prince of Wales claimed he could stop Harry's £2.3 million hand out from the Duchy of Cornwall Estate.

The couple's plan is said to have left the Queen 'disappointed' and the news that Charles is not prepared to continue to bank roll his son comes as a YouGov poll suggested that over two thirds of people believed the couple should no longer receive funding from the Duchy" ******

I feel like the reporting is similar to what happens after something big happens in the world whether it be a terrorist attack or a natural disaster, when things are happening so fast, that nothing can be verified before it's reported. Once all of the dust settles, that's when we'll get the truth of what's really happening. It may be similar to what we're hearing, or it can be completely different. I really, really hope that it's different than what we're hearing. I hope that this family is not negotiating to give these to what they want, because that will be the end of the monarchy.

Humor Me: he has failed to live up to standard he was raised to uphold.

But he sure as hell took the money first, and that tawdry piece of trash he married, her greed as obvious as her lack of talent, right there with him.

PaisleyGirl: I've not seen this yet, in the Daily Mail that all the "senior royals" have now gathered at the palace to celebrate Kate's birthday and for some crisis talks, I would imagine. Kate does not look in a very celebratory mood. She looks very serious and tired, I thought. but this breaks my heart. Rach hates Kate so much because Kate is everything that no amount of money can ever buy Rach.

@Hikari, true that on the incandescent rage. I hope QE, Chas, and Wills use all they have and burn Rach & H down. It does make me wonder, though, if H is threatening to expose dirt, but even if he is, neither H nor Rach can be trusted, so again, I say, BURN THEM DOWN. Take whatever comes and Burn Them Down.

Signs HMTQ IS trying to accommodate them:

**** The Queen has convened a meeting of all four Royal households and tasked them with coming up with a “workable” future role for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The offices of the 93-year-old monarch, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge have directed their teams to work together “at pace” with Governments and the Sussex household to find “workable solutions”. This is expected to take “days rather than weeks”.

Well, this is what I would tell the press: "Yes, I'm trying to accommodate the little dears. This is my beloved grandson and his much loved wife." Behind the scenes would be more like "Burn those MFs down, leave nothing standing, get Archie back, and devil take the hindmost." But then I'm petty lol.

If Meg thinks threatening the RF with “never seeing the seventh in line to the throne again” is a viable strategy, that’s pretty funny. Considering that Most… Or all Of his real family have yet to see Archie in the flesh. Nor any other citizens of the UK have seen a living baby. They’ve had Photoshop pictures and a plastic baby paraded at the polo, but so far only Desmond Tutu and his daughter have Had that honor based on footage. Her Majesty said we, the Royal We, Welcome a child. Not that we have seen him, held him, or even know what his name is.

People have consistently underestimated her cunning, which is the engine moving her. It's not talent or smarts. What is obviously clear is that whatever deal she negotiates, she will always fail at it. She doesn't have the charisma or even the intelligence to carry through on whatever deals she manages to cobble together. There is a reason why she remained a two-bit actress for the majority of her acting career and why her blog never got off the ground. That SmartWorks initiative? Don't make me laugh. It was another instance of her number failing. She is a copycat. This was an initiative already in play, and she made it sound like, my idea is so brilliant, which became a vehicle for M&S to move tired merchandise. And Misha Nonoo did NOT invent the white shirt. Come on!

She might be as determined as hell, which I think is her biggest "quality," but whatever she touches turns to dross. The Vogue issue? Discounted before it even hit the shelves. She doesn't have an original thought in her head, hence the rampant plagiarism. She isn't even original in her fashion choices. She has a few women that she holds up as a mirror and copies them. People who make it in the world she wants to make it in have an striking originality about them. She has none. She married Harry. That is her only claim to originality. Because, frankly, she is boring and predictable. How many versions of her word salad are going to fill auditoriums? She hasn't moved on from that same word salad for about ten years now. You can tell when she writes posts for the IG because she uses the same words over and over again. And, as a final note, I don't believe that Givenchy is panting to have her as an ambassador or joining them in any sort of collaborative effort. They removed her rhinestone sheet from their website, not wanting to have anything to do with that sartorial nightmare. She consistently wears clothes that do not fit well. Who in their right mind would want to work with her on a clothing line? The only positive thing I can say is that she has great taste in handbags and coats (except for those bathrobes she favors--she doesn't have the figure or the height to wear something like that and not look like it's engulfing her). And she makes the fatal mistake of people who have no real taste. She wears things that are trendy (hence, the expensive but teeny tiny jewelry), not realizing that one or two very expensive pieces that she could wear again and again would become a much more effective signature than those overpriced, somewhat tacky rings and necklaces that L.A. favors. So spin all you want, Ms. Markle. You are too old for the market you seek to impress, and you've burned bridges in the exact markets you could have actually succeeded in.

So I hope that HMTQ sets them free. After all- per Meghan, "Existing is not living". With a heavy heart, I hope the Queen strips Harry and Meghan of their HRH status, removes Harry from the line of succession, draws up an annual rental agreement for Frogmore Cottage, denies funding for their private security and asks Charles to re-distribute Harry's portion of the Duchy of Cornwall.

I totally agree. I don't think there is any other viable solution.

OMG, my husband just asked me "anything good on there?" and I said "just a lot of comments about Heghan and Marry."

Too funny!

Anyway, I PRAY Prince Charles will cut them off without a dime. It might be my superpower, but I'm pretty damn sure that if I had $30 million, I'd be "financially independent". Just sayin'

Also, I do fear that these two grifters will make a packet of money, in particular because many people outside the UK don't know them. They'll hear "Prince" and "Royal" and "Duke and Duchess" (please God, let Her Majesty remove their titles!!!!!) and will buy whatever crap (physical, spiritual, political) these two are going to sell.

They'll merch poor Archie and it'll kill me, but I can totally see "Baby Sussex Royal" coming a gajillion dollar brand.

Look at how much money that buffoon Kanye pulls in from his "church"? And his trashy sister-in-law who's a billionaire and who started out with a freaking "lip kit"? People will throw money at anything, and Heghan and Marry will be out there with big nets, catching all of it.

These two pieces of dreck are going to clean up, and it's going to piss me off no end.

Interesting. Why does Smeg feel the need to stay in Canada with Archie? Oh, to be a fly on BP walls...

Smeg does not want to deal with the merde show she left at BP. She's stirred up the pot and, in predictable narc fashion, left Harry to deal with the fallout.
Meghan "fled" to Canada, leaving Harry behind to negotiate. So they are going to hold the Queen's grandson hostage in Canada.

OR

Is Meghan soley behind the announcement, holding Archie hostage in Canada, leaving Harry hanging? Hmmmm....
You don't remember or wasn't around when @tatty repeatedly called people here idiots, stupid, she is smartest than you here, you use drugs and you are mentally ill. His behavior has left a bad taste in people mouth's because she has never apologized. @tatty used people repeatedly as punching bags, so where were you then defending her victims?

Also, the Harkles have **proven** they are untrustworthy.

Why would the BRF want them representing the monarch for anything? They are proven loose cannons.

All their patronages should be rescinded. They should be stripped of their Duke and Duchess title, and he can revert to simple Prince Harry and she can be Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor.

Just a piece of advice apropos of nothing: if you want people to pay less attention to something, it's probably best that you don't continue to mention that something over and over. By mentioning that something over and over, all you are doing is reinforcing the supposed importance of the thing rather than letting it fade into irrelevance.

Really good writing here from Patrick Jephson as regards the Harkles.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7870445/PATRICK-JEPHSON-Harry-Meghan-let-rocket-fuelled-vanity-triumph-duty.html

Jephson addresses several of the themes people have been talking about here in the comments.

"How prophetic, in retrospect, that the ingenue princess Kate Middleton said that her first task on joining the Royal Family was ‘to learn the ropes’ whereas Meghan Markle promised that she would ‘hit the ground running’. She has kept that promise, and earned a vocal following for doing so. But the ground she’s running on has shifted. The country she left in 2019 to take her North American break has changed, with a rising mood of scepticism towards identity politics and the language of social justice, much of it imported from Meghan’s birthplace."

Very true. The winds of changes are in motion in the USA.

"(Meghan) would have shown that she cared about them and she can be sure that they would have returned the compliment. She would also have helped fulfil her primary royal duty of fostering national unity. And if her advisors had recognised the limits of social media as a gauge of genuine popularity, then they would have been in a better position to help her navigate unfamiliar British terrain."

The comment about social media rings true for me. Social media isn't reality, and often can be improperly assessed to validate the "popularity" of a thing when the real popularity of the thing is far, far lower.

Social media is, in my view, often simply a public relations tool meant to grow popularity and try to reflect a false popularity.

@Jen re Wills, I agree completely. Wills will burn those two down as soon as he has the Duchy, and I am there for him.

I don't remember which Nuttier asked me about my fondness for the BRF, how I still manage, but here's the short end of it:

QE- she's 93, yes, she might be a little off her game, sentimental, facing her own mortality and not making the best decisions, so I give her a break;

Chas - I see more in Chas than I ever did before. And Cam, she has managed nicely. She just got on with it. I admire that. I loved Diana at the time, but see her more clearly now. Stopping there.

Wills & Kate - I love these two, and they will save the BRF. Wills is a BAMF with a lovely accent and Kate is grace and kindness and calmness. I admire and respect their path. I (hokey, yet, but true) am inspired by Kate. I could never.

As for H & Rach, I hope the BRF burns them down. Art of War style. When you are strong, look weak, when you are weak, look strong. (Paraphrasing there) If the BRF backs off now, it's because they are going to burn H & Rach down later, and in truly cold fashion, and I will be there for it.

>>>...but I'm pretty damn sure that if I had $30 million, I'd be "financially independent"<<<

I used to have a lot of money and really $30 million is not that much at the rate they spend money. No. they are going to have to go after the money to keep them in the style they want to live.

I can see them have some success but I don't see it lasting, I think Meghan will flame out, because she really has no acting skills, she doesn't have any beauty to market (who wants Yak wig hair and bulging fleshy body parts in designer dresses. Harry is not handsome and is not the future King of England, and he is not gifted to be able to give meaningful speeches), Archie has the best chance of being a marketing success.

If they write a book their demographic won't probably be interested in reading it and it will be on the sale rack in a few months. Everybody already knows their story so it won't be engaging.
Vince said…
Clarification: Jephson's piece talks about talks about changes in the UK. I thought he was talking about the USA. I would argue that the changes he suggests are happening in the UK ("rising mood of scepticism towards identity politics and the language of social justice") are also taking place in the USA.

In short, "wokeness" appears to be becoming passe in both locations.

KC Martin - the hypocracy of cannot leave the kid for a meal versus leaving him overseas. jaw dropping

SwampWoman - Givenchy paying her not to wear their stuff - too funny.

Ideas of ways to handle things: Let HM retire, Charles takes over and then, because Archie is a grandchild of reigning monarch, subject to his control? Legally and all out there long before M batted her first eye lashes.

Oh did you see the nice DM article about how M wears certain things when she means business? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7868539/Stylist-reveals-royal-wore-remarkably-similar-outfit-with.html
Yeah, so did anyone else notice that in photo for the SA announcement, one of the buttons is only half done? Details are important.

Someone mentioned in an article that they talk endlessly about themselves as an ongoing problem for why they are unsuitable for representing the Queen. The snarky side of me thinks: maybe the ONE of the real reasons no one has asked her if she is ok is that they couldn't get a word in edgewise?

Frankly, my dear, American millenials do not give a damn. My kids do not know or care about Meghan or Harry. At a party tonight, with about 600 people, half ages 25 to 40, not one person, when I asked dozens of them what they thought about Harry and Meghan leaving the royal family, I got blank stares, or who cares about what their names, and only one person ( a guy) said why would you leave the best job in the world, being a royal Prince of England, paid millions, with the love of your countrymen? Of course, this guy was English.

Nobody cares about Harry or Meghan in this generation. They know about the Queen, Prince Charles and Diana, and William (the latter not too well as the Queen and Diana. And they do not care. I think Harry is bonkers thinking America will embrace him. Heck, his friends Elton John, Oprah, George Clooney, and the rest, are not of any interest to young people. Zero.

Prince Harry owes his fortune and media savvy to three famous women: his mother, the late Princess Diana, who became a global superstar; his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who helped bring the monarchy into the 20th and 21st Centuries, and his wife, Meghan Markle, an American-born self-made former actress who had a lifestyle brand before their life-changing meeting.”

i guess i just dont get it. this woman knows what she's marrying into and what will be expected of her, she will also know that rules and protocol will not be optional. so then why are people defending her? could you imagine if a white person married into a prominent black royal family somewhere in africa, and attempted to completely overhaul their centuries old royal family by purposely breaking rules? can you imagine if this woman constantly spat on this african culture time after time? Oh my god, heads would roll. but its perfectly ok to use and abuse the british royal family. trail blazers? they are taking money from the very people they are crapping all over!

Sometimes, @Swampwoman, you really, really slay, and this is one of those times:

I'm not believing much, if any, that is being reported now. I think it is just obfuscation.

I haven't even read any of today's stuff, I'm still going thru comments here, but I am with you: everything that is coming out today is PR play, nothing more. And I'd bet Rach's last wig that the BRF saw this coming and has been laying a trap all along.

“Harry and Meghan rushed Megxit fearing UK tabloid would break story”

“Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rushed to drop their “Megxit” bombshell announcement because a UK tabloid was about to break the story, according to a report on Thursday.

London’s The Sun newspaper got wind of internal talks regarding the couple’s status, making them feel forced to announce their plans to defect from the royal family prematurely on Wednesday — before even notifying Queen Elizabeth II, The New York Times reported.

The drama started just before Christmas, with Harry calling up his dad, Prince Charles, to propose an arrangement where he and his wife would let go of some of their duties, live abroad part-time and attempt to support themselves, a source told the Times.

Charles reportedly asked for a written proposal before discussing the issue further — and Harry sent a draft while vacationing in Vancouver earlier this month, according to the Evening Standard.

Again, Charles told Harry that the palace would need more time to hash out such a plan, and how to fund it.

Harry then asked for a summit with the Queen at her estate on the Norfolk Coast.”

Very disappointed with the NY Times stories and editorials on H&M. They focus on alleged racism and ignore the commercializing of the royal family. The only reporting I can recall in the
British press that had racial overtones was the DM's story about Harry's girl being almost straight out of Compton. The BBC presenter who had a picture of a chimp when Archie was born was fired.

I had copied a story form the London Times that found fault with the financial statement H& M presented, in particular their claim that the money from taxpayer's made up only 5% of their income. The Times said it was much greater.

They’ve had Photoshop pictures and a plastic baby paraded at the polo, but so far only Desmond Tutu and his daughter have Had that honor based on footage.

@Hikari, You have called this Fauxrchie thing really well. I thought maybe it was a little too-too, but you saw it and called it.

@Twinsmama, normally, I'd just scroll on by, but PSA: comments are not required reading. You can scroll on by, pretty easy. BUT, I do have an issue with smoke and mirrors. if you choose to post on a blog that clearly is anti Markle, have the balls to identify yourself as a supporter. this way, true debate can take place. but to be honest, over the last two years, i have yet to come across a Markle supporter who is actually interested debating the facts surrounding this woman. Its either "you're just jealous!" or "you're racist!". It would actually be nice to have a civil debate about Markle. a good old fashioned volley. sigh.

Humorous comments from two different DM articles about the Sussex exit:
1- Article about Samantha Markle, who was right about her half-sister all along. One of the comments struck me as quite funny, especially the line about Meghan choking on her own anger.

“If the RF truly wanted to dis Meghan in a major way, they’d invite Samantha to the next family gathering. After all, Samantha IS family, and it’s not likely Meghan would dare show her face in public because she’d likely be booed or pelted with rotten produce. Meghan would choke on her own anger to see Samantha at BP with HMTQ.”

2-This one from the DM article titled 'No blank cheques': Prince Charles 'threatens to STOP Harry's £2.3m annual handout if he steps away from public duties'

“Charles needs to kick Harry’s ass so hard he won’t need a plane to fly back to Canada.”

When that inflated value hits baseline, someone's going to have overstated wealth and sold out for less... and who would that be? Why Rach & H would be my guess. Build up their grand illusions, and dump once they've signed. It's what I'd do. Drop stories, talk about how fabulously rich they'll be, oh, we're in awe, we'll negotiate, yadayadayada, then after they settle for less and run out to their pile in the sky, I'd drop the stories of her blowing Andy, kill two birds with one stone, and I'd still have time for a drink with Kate. Just sayin'.

Very few people have addressed the United States Internal Revenue Service, aka IRS, aka as you can get away with murder, but if you cheat on your taxes you go to jail (Al Capone is one example). Although the IRS has cut back on individual tax returns, they are concentrating on tax-cheating charitable foundations and corporations. Audits are conducted out of the blue every year or so. What non-Americans do not understand is that the IRS and its agents do not care if you are a celebrity little prince. The Sussex Foundation is in the sights of the IRS. The little prince is not a Clinton, Obama, or other politically-funded foundation, with people giving millions for pay to play, and lawyered up and politically protected. Sussex Royal has no political capital, no nothing to offer to people who want something in return. What does a little prince and his middle-age wife have to offer? Nothing, except IRS attention. Harry and Meghan have to file American tax returns, due to the fact that the USA taxes all American overseas income. If there is a British-American “agreement” to not look into Meghan’s income, I know with 100 percent certainty that the IRS will go after every penny H and M has, with the Queen’s blessing.

Thank you, @Mimi. I am the first to admit if I find out I'm wrong and I've hurt someone unintentionally. I really did think it was the same person who has repeatedly attacked me and others, and I was over it. I would never hurt Trudy intentionally, and I did miss about three months of this, so you know, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I try to fix it.

And to the unknown who said this: "I think your posts tonight Elle, show you are NOT a nice person." Well, I disagree. I was direct. I called out what I saw and thought, and I'm tired of being bullied and seeing others bullied. I did not attack anyone personally, did not call them crazy or boring or sycophantic or any of the things I've been called. So, if taking up for myself and others makes me a bad person, then I'll be a bad person.

I will avoid all of this in the future by only reading commenters with proven track records of decency and insight, and no Unknowns except for those listed.

And again, Trudy, truly I'm sorry. You've always been a good Nut. elle

Brilliant comment on a DM article, written by "Ginny":

"I just want to know how this is being allowed, the Windsor family don't own those titles, they are custodians the Monarchy but it's our system, our Monarchy, it belongs to us, it's the property of the people. So how are two random Windsors being allowed to take our property, trademark it for themselves, and then profit? It's not theirs in a personal capacity and never has been! We have a constitutional democracy precisely because whichever family occupies the throne does not do so in a personal capacity, but on behalf of the people, who own everything. Now these two come along and rob us, and the rest of the Windsors are going to allow it? So what use are they as custodians if they're not going to do their jobs and gaurd our property?"

@DesignDoctor: Yup, the queen’s expression looked about as happy as a block of concrete during that wedding. I bet she wishes she had told Harry to wait for two or three years (and let it die on its own). If you really want to see what the rest of the family thought, watch the video of when H&M are saying their vows. NOBODY in the family is watching them say their vows, which is one of the high points in any wedding — except this one. They are reading the program or looking away. They are doing anything to avoid watching the train wreck being made an official train wreck.

@Elle: The comment about social media rings true for me. Social media isn't reality, and often can be improperly assessed to validate the "popularity" of a thing when the real popularity of the thing is far, far lower.

Social media is, in my view, often simply a public relations tool meant to grow popularity and try to reflect a false popularity.

Elle: SM also is used to work hand-in-hand with public relations to create many false narratives. As a narcissist, Meghan is one big false narrative. Narcs are empty vessels who remake themselves into whatever personality they want or need to be. Social media is the perfect environment for narcissists to live in because it is far more artificial than genuine.

Kit Kat, that was the most insightful comment of the day (and I've seen some pretty good insights).

That focuses the heart of the matte (and my own rage) with crystal sharp clarity.

@KnitWit, for your scones.

The best kitchen tip I've ever learned for baking is to grate my chilled butter (straight from the fridge) on the large grate side of a box grater. If I am using my hands, I wear surgical gloves (available in any drug store) which keeps enough of my body heat off the butter to allow for good incorporation.

Grated butter incorporates much more quickly than diced butter into your dry materials.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...
