Open Post: Meg's final engagements as a Royal?

Over the next three days, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to appear at what may be their final engagements as senior members of the Royal Family.

Today, Meg and Harry will appear at the at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at Royal Albert Hall, where they will hear the Royal Marines Band play a selection of music to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Tomorrow Meg has some kind of activity for International Women's Day - I don't believe a specific engagement has been announced, please correct me if I'm wrong - and on Monday she and Harry will attend a church service for Commonwealth Day.

Putting on their best face

Duchess Meghan and Duke Harry have been putting on their best face recently. In their appearances so far, they have been well-dressed and apparently sober.

Will they be able to keep it up for three more days worth of appearances? And do they have an ulterior motive? Are they looking good so British citizens will be inclined to pay for their security, because they have a deal in the works, or because they want to come back to the Royal Family?

Meanwhile, media coverage since their return has been almost uniformly flattering. Is this at the behest of the palace?

Finally, Meg's court case against the Mail on Sunday is still out there. Will her next trip to the UK be to testify against her father in court? (Harry's phone hacking suit against the Murdoch empire is also ongoing.)

Let's discuss.

Well done. Great sleuthing. This shows once again how bad the Palace is at controlling somebody who doesn't obey the rules.

If they let her stay in the royal orbit they may kiss good bye to decades of hard work restoring the image of the monarchy.

I am getting more and more disillusioned in the whole hereditary monarchy institution. Anne should have been the next in line. There is a bit of hope in Wills, but if they can't do anything about Will's half-wit brother Wills time will be poisoned.

The photo of Diana in that red dress is Photoshop.

You are absolutely correct, Mel. I should have read the caption, which says clearly that the dress was "inspired" by Diana. There's even a doll version of it!

That said, my point stands that no one ever seems willing to lend Meg any jewelry. The Queen in particular.

The Charlatan Duchess re-posted Jesus Loves Me First's video of an NBC interview of Victoria Mather, Vanity Fair magazine's "royal watcher," in which she said (0:41 mark):

"I don't think Meghan Markle wanted to spend the rest of life looking at Kate Middleton's back as she [MM] sat in the second row to the future queen. I do hear that she [MM] gave Kate a knife for Christmas [Mather laughs nervously], which is quite something, isn't it? I don't think she [MM] wanted to be second best."

That will be a fun event.

I wonder who else will be attending.

Best not invite Edo, or he'll run in the other direction just two months before his wedding.
.
Ford is the Dagenham company, as in `you can have any colour you like..' and `History is Bunk'.

Well history isn't bunk, is it Ava C?

I agree with you about Catherine of Aragon - treated abominably, blamed for Henry's failure as sire when the sex of the baby depends on the father's gametes, not the mother's. Or did she conceive males but miscarry?

It must have been so difficult for the ordinary folk in the time of the Tudors, being forced, several times, to change their religious affiliations - we know about Mary I but Edward VI's reign must have been very distressing as well (Much of the iconoclasm that 17C Puritans were blamed for happened in his reign - defacing of statues, for eg). When I read Eamon Duffy's `The Stripping of the Altars' it really came home to me how painful it can be to lose one's certainties when an old order passes.

That relates strongly to how I feel about things today - we need more stability, not less.

As for the 17C... In my last year at Junior School (10-11yrs old) I had a virulently anti-Catholic teacher, in a non-denominational council school in Hertfordshire, unbelievable. It almost backfired -

When we came to sit our 2-day 11+ exam, children from the local Catholic school, with a couple of nuns, came to join us. Nuns invigilated the first day, prowling the rows between the desks, boots creaking, chains jangling. Had it been the Hitler Youth, with SS officers, I could not have been more panic-stricken. I made a total mess of my English paper. I assume I got through on the strength of my arithmetic the next day and my Headmaster's report.

That's one instance of how that teacher was so damaging - the other is that she used me to humiliate the other kids, constantly praised me, a newcomer who'd done already the work in my previous school.

Another of my ghosts has come back - thinking about James II's Catholicism, I was going to say `not many people know that Anne Hyde considered converting to Catholicism' - I'd handled a critical piece of evidence decades ago, collecting it from an unoccupied house in London for safer keeping & subsequent return to its owner. Looking at Wikipedia's entry I see Anne Hyde's conversion is now well known - and the reference closes the circle, via my No 2 husband, the toxic narcissist whom I left after 11 months, and his contacts. My journey to London was rewarded by an outburst of what I now recognise was narcissistic rage.

My recent counsellor got to the bottom of my problem - I was the sort of person narcs home in on, thanks to having a mother with narc tendencies and thus having `weak boundaries'; in trying to be `nice' and `understanding' I couldn't recognise dangerous relationships until they bit me hard. By rushing into these relationships, and seeing the `good side' of these people, I had really been enabling them to abuse me.

I didn't stick around to be drawn into co-dependency but went No Contact - a lesson for the AFKAP.

A knife as a gift?

Oh dear me - that is sinister, a malevolent wish in deed.

I hope Duchess Catherine gave her a token payment (1p) in return to dispel the bad ju-ju.

According to one superstition, a knife presented as a gift will sever the friendship between the giver and the recipient. The only way around this unfortunate outcome is to tape a penny to the knife. The coin must be promptly removed and returned to the giver as a form of symbolic payment

"Knife as a gift"

Indeed!!
Where I am from sharp things given as gifts signify soon, messy and permanent separation of ways. To avoid this curse Kate should have given Megsy a token payment, say a penny. I doubt she did this.

This actually makes me feel better. She will leave Kate's orbit for good.

Really ? I'd like more proof or information on where that writer heard about that gift. That is a shocking claim.

An interesting comment I read in a book about the royals:

"Often they spend time completely separately only to get together in the car heading to some event".

It explains something I was really puzzled about: how did they manage to end up wearing the sea of red for the event? Harry and Megsy both dressed in red was way too much. Red accents on her outfit would have been far more appropriate. Red was Harry's colour for the evening.

He didn't know what she would wear. She didn't bother not to clash with him by her red uniform. That is a big faux pas on her side. That would count for his gloomy look. Royal women simply do not do this to their royal men. Welcome to the real world Harry. It will never be about you any more.

Good morning/good day where ere you be

trying to get caught up and realizing how many posts there are and just how many on point things people noted not there yet

Longview - HMTQ a final swan song for JH, yeah, makes sense

JocelynsBellinis - Diana wore a lot of puffed sleeves (the standing like a guy - too funny. I'll never be able to look at her photos again and not think that)

HappyDays nice goodby party ... yeah, nothing screams antiracism better than we've given you the wedding of your dreams to the glorious final bookended party and rarely said no to your credit card bills

Ava - nice about how flashy drama linking Diana to M as well as how the country likes their royals - a smidge of glamour but solid to the core.

SwampWoman (bless her heart ... finding Jesus). true south, not sure about skank but defin pulling out of the trailer - at least in my part of the south

I think we've been looking at the wrong end of the microscope. We're seeing the Hollywood moments as OTT compared to her untidy not put together look, saying why can't you have done this all along. I suspect her thinking was more along the lines of see how much we add to the BRF equation, this is why you need to rethink asking us to go instead of giving us our choice in how much to participate ... let's renegotiate this deal.

And, I do think something is hitting JH. It might not be enough for him to make any kind of move but it clearly was leaving a taste in his mouth that he's recognized for what it is - reality of what he is leaving behind and what he is going to as his next step.

Ah, the last service. Will she do anything? IDK, baby bump?

I, for one, can’t wait to see what happens after this tour. That’s when the claws will really come out on both sides.

The person I know who runs in royal circles told me that Chelsy Davy told him that she left Harry because she didn’t want the pressure and media scrutiny imposed on royals. My opinion is that Harry has seen several examples of his status actually being a liability — losing Chelsy, losing his mother, the debacle in Las Vegas — and that Meghan the Master Manipulator exploited the hell out of this. We all know how well she plays the victim card and threatening to leave — especially if Archie does exist — is a weak spot for Harry, likely stirring up a lot of past trauma. She’s managed to leverage his history of losing important women in his life to get him to turn on the royal family. I’m sure there’s more to it than that, but my opinion is that threatening to leave Harry — given his history — is the biggest chip Meghan has had to play.

My source is heading to London next week, so fingers crossed that I’ll have some good intel for you guys once he returns.

Good Morning fellow Nutties :). Apparently Meg and Just Harry went to church with HM this morning from what I can see of her from the car she looks decent once again with the excpetion of wearing a black dress with a white collar and black hat. Maybe we will get more photos later it only went up a little while.

Time change is dragging me here bah.

Final platforms?

I thought the real/official (ie Mountbatten concert, Commonwealth Service) engagements involved the regal equivalent of a Three-Line Whip and, had they backed out, that would have signalled the finale of this pantomime. The dates were in the royal diary and so they weren't allowed to refuse. Harry had to face the Marines.

Not that either of them brought Archie the Wonder Child.

God willing, it gave H pause for thought.

It's still almost impossible to know what her motivation is

- hoovering, with the message `See, we can behave ourselves and you do need us so give us your money, pur-leese… (not that we'll stick to behaving ourselves, we'll go rogue whenever we feel like it'

- or `Sucks, yah-boo. We don't need you. See how well we're doing without you'.

Haven't posted in awhile as you Nutties are far more eloquent and succinct with your astute observations, so I've been a happy lurker. But I must pop in to say this...

The pics of MM with the students I found to be very off-putting, almost chilling. Obviously it's her full blown narc aspects on display, trying to portray herself as a savior and the only person in the world who could possibly understand the ideas, thoughts, hopes of these children. To me, the pictures are a cross between: back-in-the-day Michael Jackson with his children-fans and propaganda pics of the NK dictator with citizens. I just don't know how else to describe it.

The song “This Little Light Of Mine” Has been commandeered as Meg’s Mega Woke Anthem. She may have attended a chichi Catholic girls school, but never went to Sunday School, because that song is about shining the light of Christ which lives within us to the world… If we are believers in Christ. Trust Mega to think it’s about her

I just had the thought that Meg’s “triumphal entry” red ensemble is her Scarlett O’Hara Jezebel look. Kind of surprised she didn’t have her boobs out. She spent enough money for them and loves to show them off.

If it’s only dawning in Harry NOW That he’s throwing his life away because of his Narco wife’s empty promises, He really does have the IQ of a 6 year old. The regret is going to eat him alive. After his wife casts him off, maybe he will find his way home again, but whether he resides in Britain or abroad, he has effectively placed himself in mental exile for the rest of his life. His family and his countrymen may allow him back, but they will keep their distance from him as though he’s a rabid dog they don’t want to get too close to, lest he bite and infect them again.

All this apparent adulation in the press right now is just as superficial and shallow as their return, and will fade quickly once they go back to their exile. Unless she’s gearing up for an Archie for media blitz charm offensive… For millions and millions of dollars of course.

I hope during their four hour lunch this week, the queen told her grandson that the 12 month review period was really for him alone, and he would be welcome back if he toes the line. His military appointments should not be reinstated, but if he agreed to live quietly at Frogmore and continue with Invictus and Sentabale, He could stay in as a probationary royal. For him to receive Duchy monies and security, he has to live in England Or be on the Queen’s business. Otherwise he’s on his own. This whole 12 month review process really sounds like the queen is giving them a gap year to further damage her from a safe distance. Not the best move, Your Maj.

Yeah. `... just as long as you leave the very top space for me'.

Please do not throw shoes at me but I do believe that there is God who knows better and there is the Divine Plan in motion.

If Monarchy lost the way than it will reap what it sow. If we are all wrong about Megsy we will see her prosper and successful and adored and happy forever with Harry. If this happens I am prepared to admit I was wrong about her.

At this point I am leaving it to God. The institution of monarchy is an ancient one, and it has very deep connection with the Lord. The Bible says "To whom is given much much will be required". So, we will see how this sorry saga develops.

Adoring crowds around Megsy? did you notice how staged this is? There is no spontaneity in any of the pictures.

She is focus of the attention while she remains married to Harry. How many of us believe the marriage will last? If it does we will see many more staged pics. If it doesn't the new girlfriend or wife will take the center stage.

Sorry for bringing the faith into it. It comes from the very bottom of my heart. I lived through lot and it taught me there is more to life than conventional science teaches us.

@Artemasia: perhaps the Queen saw these events as a way to reminder JH of all that he is giving up for the woman he loves, in the name of peace and quiet. All these events he attended are who he is and has been for his entire life. I do see the 12 months in two ways: a chance for Harry for come to his senses and leave MM, and a means to lower the boom on the couple should MM push ahead with her original agenda of merchandizing the royal name.

As for MM, any press is good press to her, and the reflection of the American media shows it.

Most times not recognized for your efforts even as they are as fundamental as the gears in a machine; you work and work and are content to know that you have tried your best no matter the cost or consequence. Self sacrificing and self effacing in the face of little gratitude or reward except that you are content to know you have tried your best in the face of sometimes dauting circumstances. MM's clothing choices:

I thought the blue dress was nice until I saw the zipper up the back. I don't like that look, so the dress went down in my estimation.

The white top with sheer sleeves? Hideous.

The red dress. I loved it! I thought she looked really nice in it. I liked the purse and shoes, but I intensely disliked the earrings, which looked very cheap.

I routinely chuckle at MM's jewelry. She has NO statement pieces. Everything she wears is delicate and, often, priced so that non-royal people might be able to afford them. Kate, on the other hand, will occasionally wear simple, classic, and elegant earrings or a necklace, but they're honking huge diamonds or other jewels, and you know there ain't no way, no how, anyone "normal" could ever afford them. I've often wondered if that bothers MM?

Back to MM's red dress. It was a winner for me, for sure! Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and again....

For those who seem despondent because the narcissist is 'on top of the world', consider a few examples:

1. She has not raised money and put together a team to rescue a historic building and turn it into a financial asset for the local, economically depressed community (or anything else of that significance). Charles did that with Dumfries House.

2. She has not established a foundation that brings 'people, ideas and resources together to understand issues, explore creative solutions and be a catalyst for long-term impact' and that receives generous donations from a number of funders. William and Kate have done that (with Harry initially) with The Royal Foundation. It's not just word salad for them, and, in fact, they don't promote the foundation but put all their attention on the projects that the foundation supports.

3. She has not established an Invictus Games or a Walking With the Wounded. Harry did that, and there were plenty of sterling people who stepped up to help him do that and make them a success. A cookbook, capsule collection and Vogue issue are what she has achieved. Lovely little projects but, like her washing up soap story (a class project by the way), Meghan has exaggerated their impact and value in her mind and thinks much too much of herself.

4. She has not established a vehicle to help thousands of young people every year, for more than three decades. Prince Charles did that with The Princes Trust (he was about her age when he established the Princes Trust).

Meghan is all about self-promotion but does not actually achieve anything concrete or long-lasting. She has entertainment value, huge entertainment value, but there are shallow people in the world who confuse bling with the real thing, self-promotion with substance, and so on. Those people may give her lots of IG 'likes' and make sure she always gets headlines in the media (with dozens of photographs - always a sign that there is not much to write about) but they are not the people who will invest in a vision she has (like the examples given above) and they are not the people who will help to build a lasting legacy of change (she wouldn't listen to them or co-operate with them anyway).

Meghan is a Marie-Antoinette not a Queen Elizabeth I (or II).

It is just a pity that she has trapped Harry because he was doing real work that would last and bring significant change, when he surrounded himself with the best people and followed his best instincts. Now, he is being guided by Meghan and looking more miserable every day!

@Sandie: I agree with all your wrote above, yes that is what grates about Meghan she is much talk and that is about it, and exaggerates everything from the claims of her fans that she wrote a cookbook NO she wrote the introduction (yes, she brought it the attention that it deserved) but she did not write the recipes, take the photos etc. She simply showed up waved her hands about and wrote an intro for it, the same with the capsule collection I love how some bloggers claimed before it came out oh she designed all the pieces etc when instead all she did was pick out last years styles that hadn't really sold, the only new thing was friends button down shirt that you could pick up a replica of much cheaper in a chain shop. As for the Vogue again more exaggeration from her "taco lunch" with Michelle Obama.

I bet she was infuriated with the correction to that it was a bunch of email questions that she submitted through MO's assistant. She's had now what 4 months more to show something of substance and all she keeps telling us is "we have so much to show you" which of course is another big secret. Like everything the two of them do.

I hope when this is over the marriage because it will be the truth of what really went down with everything comes out.
@Portcitygirl - British schools segregated???

Segregation as such is absolutely illegal in the state/public sector.

Some schools do have a very high intake of ethnic minority pupils because of the area they are in, where the minority population is in the majority. Dagenham, however, is very much a white, working class area:

Summary of Barking and Dagenham’s 2001 Census information:

"... there were 163,944 residents in the borough in 2001; lone parent households with dependent children made up 10.4% of borough’s households; 80.9% of the borough’s population was White British; at 4.4%, Black African was the largest minority ethnic group in the borough".
from https://www.lbbd.gov.uk/population-and-demographic-data
(lbbd is `London Borough of Barking and Dagenham).

This is subject the qualifications I made earlier - 2011 figures, based on all residents of all ages. A change in the proportions in the under-18s might have skewed the figures since then of course.

I suspect some jiggery-wokery in the choice of photos.

There are some independent schools which do separate themselves from others, the `religious' schools. Delicate matter - I don't mean ordinary Catholic schools, but other faith schools where the only subject is study of the religion's scriptures and world view, outside the mainstream Western educational sphere, so to speak. My goodness, I think she looks absolutely lovely in the photos on the way to church. Charming, and natural. (Wearing black to church wouldn't be a problem in the US, not sure about the UK?)

I do think they both look a bit stoned in some of the pics. A little something to take the edge off perhaps?!

Going to church - I was relieved to see they were in different car from HM. To travel literally with her to Morning Service is an honour, even within the family. For one moment, I feared they were getting that accolade.

There is nothing either charming or natural about that smile plastered on hr face when no one else in the car is smiling. What normal person smiles all the time?

@humor me Hard to tell what he says to her. To me, it seems like he is saying something about standing at attention. There are two videos. The first is a close up and you can really see their faces. Harry is so emotional. The second video is longer. After watching that one, I really think that standing ovation was totally for Harry. He seemed to understand what they were saying. That he will be missed. She just seemed impatient. She's a scary person.

Officially they are paid up official members of the royal family until the end of March (ka-ching) but they are already out. I suspect that the Sussexes removed themselves from all co-operation. The Queen must feel very sad and the rest of the family must feel frustrated at the behaviour of the Sussexes.

@JocelynsBellinis Beats me if this is true, but

...does Kate Middleton have more pressure put upon her than Meghan Markle does to dress a certain way?

We know Queen Elizabeth II has already been preparing Kate for her future role as queen. But does that mean she is also giving Kate advice about what she wears out in public? Here is what we know about what Queen Elizabeth II thinks about Kate Middleton’s attire
Being the future queen means that Kate’s fashion sense is under more scrutiny

There is no denying the fact that since Kate has become the Duchess of Cambridge, her taste in fashion has gotten much more formal. In fact, it is rumored that William actually started to fall for Kate when he saw her modeling lingerie in a 2002 fashion show...

According to AOL, now that Kate is in line to be the queen, it is imperative that she looks the part. In order to ensure that Kate is always dressing as a future queen should, “The queen is regularly, allegedly, giving notes if she doesn’t like a certain hem or a certain outfit on Kate, or certain colour tights.”

Being that her grandmother-in-law is able to criticize every aspect of her attire, including the color of her tights, it may come as little surprise that the Duchess has hired a personal stylist to help her pick out her outfits and make sure that she is always looking the part when in public.

Although the queen does have a say in what Kate wears out in public, the Duchess of Cambridge has always been able to carry herself with an exceptional amount of dignity and respect. So, no matter what she chooses to wear, she will always look like a perfect royal in the eyes of millions of people around the world..."

I agree with the overall points made. But Charles was actually 28----10 years younger than MM is now---when he established the Prince's Trust with his severance pay when he left the Navy.  https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/about-the-trust/history

When MM was the age Charles was when he established the Trust, she was living with Trevor, probably planning her drug-soaked Jamaican wedding, and lying about being in the actors union. When she needed to look like an activist, she likely dug out that ancient soap commercial story.

When Harry was about the age Charles was when he established the trust, he was playing games in Las Vegas.

A couple of threads ago someone asked me for a link when I said RPOs weren't doing their job with Harry in Vegas. I got busy and never followed up. But for anyone who is interested, click on the above link to see what I meant. No, they aren't supposed to interfere with the protected person's freedom to screw up but the pictures sure look like there was a bodyguard joining the party. (Guess they don't carry guns.)
Did HMTQ invite them to church “as a sweet gesture by HM”, as a source/aka MM told People, or did the dastardly duo just show up as they did at Charles’ investiture service on Thursday? I suspect the latter. With all credit to Seinfeld, Instagram/media pics is simply opposite-world anymore.

I especially liked her take on M's dress.

Although I thought M looked good the dresses were more suited to a Hollywood event than what the Harkles attended.
Calling the dresses"aggressive" is an interesting take on Meghan's need to be the center of attention.

If the BRF engineered this farewell its purpose is to remind Harry what he's giving up.

From Clarence House: 'Today on International Women's Day, we are shining a light on survivors of domestic abuse around the world.'

Princess Eugenie: 'Today and every day I celebrate women. On International Women's Day 2020, I wanted to share with you some of the women that have and do inspire me.
'I want them to know how special and amazing they are. Why don't we all tell the incredible women in our life that we think they are awesome?'

And then there is Meghan, who used International Women's Day to celebrate herself ...!

I read here religiously and very rarely comment except for the occasional one or two lines but i need to ask a question of all of you highly perceptive ladies (and gentleman) on this blog. I can't accept the 'Harry is working for the MI5 theory' but does no-one else find it weird that no one in her past has come forward with anything negative. The silence is amazing. I remember reading that a reporter had cornered Trevor's father in the US right at the beginning of this sh**show and when asked about her he rolled his eyes and said something along the lines of "she is a piece of work". Since then nada absolutely nada.

The answer has been along the lines of NDAs. Really. What is the threat if something is said - world peace? Money - Cory is doing OK, Trevor too - his family is well off and were well off when she married him. Complete and absolute silence. Even her family rise up once in a while but are mostly silent. If my son or daughter were thrown under the bus by an obvious narc and history was repeating itself I would have my say. There are school friends, college associates, teachers, neighbours, cast mates, producers, directors, friends and associates of her previous victims - she is 40 for heavens sake - did she drop from the sky or more likely come up from below!!

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also, I am british by birth and get a lot of what is being seen in the UK at the moment. We have expectations of behaviour, probably based on our stiff upper lip. However, everyone, no matter what their background, bases their values on their own criteria. We trust because we can be trusted etc. I would say the RF are somewhat still in that mode. They are gobsmacked by her lack of class and unbelievable self promotion because "it is just not the british way" and they keep setting themselves up for more. Although I would prefer to think they are being strategic cuz if not and this continues the problem will become much, much worse. When the average Joe in UK thinks he is being treated as though he were stupid instead of polite, the stiff upper lip will crack and it may just be the security costs that will send him over the edge.

Meghan uses whatever day of commemoration day or holiday it is to feature herself as the centerpiece, as if she's the most important factor. She cannot just post something along with photo that shows the actual, main players that day is commemorating, no, it has to be all about herself at front and center. It really betrays a warped mind and an unstable personality to do something like this.

Harry will not attempt to act anything but loving towards Meghan while out in public because their livelihood now depends upon it. Meghan is not getting the sort of work with great importance (and the money that comes along with it)) on her own, so she needs Harry to play along with lovey-dovey couple cast out of mean ol' RF and racist British society. Harry is not about to quit so soon because he has a chip on his shoulder and needs to prove that he could make it on his own without the safety net and accoutrements of being a royal. So at this point they're still stuck with each other, no matter if pangs of regret is settling in with Harry and raging anger cementing with Meghan. The Sussexes must admit in private that their transition has not been smooth and definitely not what they'd expect in terms of lucrative projects that aren't viewed controversially.

Now is the time in Hollywood when major deals for big projects are hashed out, to get everything set for Fall season debut or promotion. Either there's no takers or they're only getting minor projects, and the fact that Meghan needed to put it out there that she's interested in a superhero supporting role speaks to difficulty in getting work. At least work that Meghan thinks is appropriate for someone of her stature. It would not surprise me if the kinds of deals that they're getting are reality shows or novelty shows that don't bode well for sustaining fame while procuring wealth.

To Georgette Heyer (pronounced Hairer) newbies and fans: I tried to read Heyer’s Regency novels whilst ina kid.. I did not understand the Duke vs. Earl, or much of the clipped speech, which today I can see how a few words turn into hundreds in almost every other author who writes today, as editing is no longer available.. I know I am illiterate, but my favourite wish is that people discover Georgette Heyer. You will learn cant words, if nothing else. My favourite is “Sylvester” and Heyer deliberately made it into a “Pride and Prejudice” theme. Every single word of Heyer”s books are important, and not thrown away.

So speaking of growing away, get rid of GAMS. Anybody who has seen the ballet “The Nutcracker” as I wrote before, can see how the rats in the home became soldiers, all dressed up in military uniforms. H looked like he should have started twirling on his tippy toes. He looked so ridiculous in that uniform as he did not give a s.,t towards his “boys’ ever, and dropped them like hey were kryptonite when Disney called,

I’m feeling very disheartened about what’s been going on. I’m quite disheartened that this utter BS is supported by some people in today’s world. It’s making me feel very pessimistic as to where this planet is headed.

I really do feel William and Catherine have been badly treated and I hope the story about Kate getting a knife for Christmas was a euphemism for the overall situation between the two couples as it is just simply appalling and something I would treat as a threat. FWIW, I don't know why they threw her a bigass wedding with all the trimmings because they HAD to know what she is/was and somebody must have been a busy little beaver to cover it up (mental picture of a cat in a nasty litter box). It does scream out to everybody that There Is More To This Than Meets The Eye (in capital letters, like the next chapter in a cheesy suspense or murder novel).

Where it falls apart for me, though, is picturing FKAP Harry as The Scarlet Pimpernel.

I know scarlet pimpernel or the royal family’s answer to James Bond. I live in a small village and everyone here knows what you have for supper along with your deepest darkest secrets. My daughter says it’s like living in the national enquirer. The good side of this is everyone is protective of the good and watchful of the bad. Perfect example is Marcus Anderson. No one is related to him. No one went to school with him. Did he come up from below with her. He comes from Peterborough apparently. A small sized town where everyone is related, except to him it would appear. It’s weird. Just weird.

Oh, dear. I would not dream of throwing shoes at you (yet) because I'm not sure I have anything that would do. You might like some Lady Gaga monstrosity-type shoes, and I have nothing in the closet that looks like horse or cow hooves. I do have some pink glitter running shoes that my daughter asked incredulously "What ARE those, your TOWN SHOES"? (Yes, they are.) I have some old combat boots and some old steel-toed boots as well as sandals and flip flops and 10 or so pair of running/athletic shoes, some riding boots, and two pairs of mucking boots. (I threw all my heels away so I wouldn't be tempted to take another job that requires suits, high heels, and hosiery.)

If you can just fill out a questionnaire that tells me your shoe preference and/or size range, I will attempt to fling something your way if I have anything that is suitable. (I do not want to be sartorially incorrect here.)

I understand what you mean about the Divine Plan in motion. I've not yet decided if there is a Divine Plan or an Infernal Plan. Regardless, the game's afoot, and we're just along for the ride.

I put it down to them having finally gotten rid of her, and not wanting to draw her attention back to them in any way whatsoever. Anyone with any sense realizes that the BRF have every resource known to man at their beck and call to protect the Monarchy, and if they see fit to admit this harpy into their family, I'd call it good luck for me to be rid of her.

I do NOT understand how she was let into the family, and can only think it is partly down to how far JH is in the succession now, and partly her race. Maybe 75/25. She is far from the only one who has sought to cash in on her position, and I think they were quite happy to have her ethnic background in the family from a political standpoint. I think they figured she could be controlled by Charles' purse strings, and that she would be so thrilled with her title and position that she'd not wander too far off script. I reckon they were expecting a cross between Fergie and Princess Michael, and got far more than they bargained for. I think the stepping down and moving to another continent has to have been a total shock.

The ridiculous wedding I will never understand. It's the only part of this entire sh*t show that I think HM comes off as having got it dead wrong. As the Head of the Church of England, her answer should have been a big ol' hell no.

I can't accept the 'Harry is working for the MI5 theory' but does no-one else find it weird that no one in her past has come forward with anything negative. The silence is amazing.

I agree 100%. Not a peep from ANYONE in her past or present orbits.

If it was anyone else, the logical answer would be that she didn't make any impression on anybody. Nothing good, bad or controversial. She was pablum. But, its MM so you know that there has to be something worth blabbing about, even if its simply that she never picked up the tab. But the silence has been deafening.

or is it as @Ian's girl says and everyone is so glad to be rid of her, that they just don't want a thought of her to taint their now calm and peaceful lives? She, whose Name they Dare Not Speak

How far can a bunch of NDAs reach? And what was the cost? This mystery really does occupy way too many of my waking hours!

The ridiculous wedding I will never understand. It's the only part of this entire sh*t show that I think HM comes off as having got it dead wrong. As the Head of the Church of England, her answer should have been a big ol' hell no.

I read somewhere recently that Smirkle lied to the Queen that she would not be wearing a veil and QEII was really angry when she saw the over the top mile-long veil when Markle walked down the aisle. The deception supposedly why the Queen was looking at her with daggers at the wedding.

MM has no hesitation about lying to anyone about anything!

That's okay, Mimi. We just read your posts in William Shatner's voice when that happens. "My ipad. Has. This thing about. Punctuation. Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of. The starship. Enterprise."

I would also add that Trevor seems like an actual gentleman, and as such may not feel comfortable speaking about prior relationships. (Though God knows she ain't no lady, and is hardly worthy of such respect) And most men don't want to advertise the fact they were made fools of.

God knows her family was screaming it from the rooftops at one point, and look how they were treated. I am not at all surprised no one else has said anything.

And lastly, in today's political climate, who initially would want to be the first one to bad mouth Britain's First Black Princess?

If they continue to be personae non grata, things may eventually trickle out, but I still say most people who knew her before do not want to have anything further to do with her, or even get back on her radar with any sort of public comments.

It could be the OS. However, hyperlinks should work regardless, I’ve checked my Settings, but couldn’t see where or how they could be disabled. 😉 My iPhone got much worse with punctuation and autocorrect/auto-predict after an operating system update. @Design Doctor, I had heard that about the veil, too, and it is freakin unbelievable. If I had done that to my grandmother, she'd have hung me from my precious veil right then and there, in front of God and everybody. Meghan's bull@$*! would not go over well in the Southern US, at least not the South of my childhood. God knows so many yankees are moving down here now that things are not what they once were.

The fact that a woman on her third marriage was given that sort of wedding, period, even if she hadn't worn a veil, is what I don't understand. I'd have sooner seen Camilla and Charles have that ceremony than Nutmeg. At least you would know it was a true love situation, however you may feel about how it came to be.

But I really thought since she was divorced, they'd have to have a civil ceremony like Charles did, with a Blessing and party after. That's the part that bothered me most, although perhaps things have changed and it's allowed now.

Hydrogen peroxide: https://www.vitacost.com/sunfood-food-grade-hydrogen-peroxide-32-fl-oz

And it is food safe, so you can use it to wash fruits & vegetables. For example, lemons. How many hands touch lemons? And then, we cut into them, and yuk!

Also, if you spend $25 on their products, free shipping. Their rice and beans are good and it's easy to spent the required amount.

From coughs and aches to burning up and spending the night in hospital, here’s how he beat the illness that is sweeping the globe.

Day 1 — Monday November 25: I have a cold. I’m sneezing and my eyes are a bit bleary. It isn’t bad enough to keep me off work. I arrived in this country to teach English as a foreign language — but now I’m a manager at a school in Wuhan, the city in central China where I have lived for the past seven months.

First, I love your screen name. It reminds me of my half-English mother who made the best Yorkshire pudding in North America. I miss her (and my Surrey born grandmother, who was the very definition of a good Christian lady and the survivor of a Japanese concentration camp in the Philippines along with my grandfather, aunt and uncle). TooMuchInformation, sorry, but your screen name triggered a flood of memories.

I have had the same thoughts about the eerie silence of those people closest to Meghan, who knew her most intimately before she met Harry. It seems that only her childhood friend Ninaki Priddy has been forthcoming in the press about M’s history of using people as stepping stones and then ghosting them once they are no longer useful to her. But I hold out hope that Tom Bower’s biography of Markle (which is said to be his next project once his tome on Boris Johnson is published) will reveal and illuminate even the darkest crannies of her self-absorbed life. Bower is known for his meticulous and dogged research and no-holds-barred approach to writing about his subjects. I can not wait to read it.

Finally, as an American I sometimes come across a British word or expression in the Times, Telegraph, DM etc. that I do not understand. So when I read in Camilla Long’s piece that “Now [Meghan] has scraped Harry’s goolies into a Gucci tote and run off to North America”, I had to call upon the digital OED to learn what “goolie” meant. I nearly spit out my Starbucks. LOL.

SDJ

Yes the silence. NDAs for everyone her claws have touched would be incredible. But there it is. No one speaks or perhaps they do but the newspapers et al are unable to print. That is my conundrum. I am waiting waiting and still waiting. She sends her SIL a knife for Xmas!! She tells the Queen to get stuffed and we all wait for the shoe to drop. No. We kiss ass till the cows come home. If she has “something “it must be mighty good cuz it’s out of my realm of possibilities.

@WalkHumbly I'd forgotten about the secret event likelihood. Everything's secret with her until it can be monetised or utilised. It's possible there's nothing strange about Archie and it's her mania for secrecy that's responsible for all this puzzlement and speculation. If she ever disappears into the sunset strip we should get an international rise in productivity. Though she'd love to hear me say that.
@Ian's Girl - they found Shia's flag not once, but twice! I waste way too much time there, but on occasion, like Friday nights, there are some really informative threads about ancient archaeology.

My husband would take away my computer if he knew about my visits to /pol/.

Bringing it back to the BRF, I will bet Meg had another secret visit somewhere before they left with pictures to be released to overshadow one of Kate's outings.

@Ava C "If she ever disappears into the sunset strip we should get an international rise in productivity. Though she'd love to hear me say that."

haha yes!

@Unknown I am just amazed that someone as untalented, as unsuccessful as Markle could destroy such a powerful family, and almost destroy a 1000 year old institution. Surely things will get better once she is gone, but I'm afraid she will never stop creating havoc for the BRF unless she dumps Harry and moves on to a new life with a new man. Even then, she will always use Archie as her weapon.

Question from the US. Markle seems to do a lot of speaking events. Does Kate do the same? Do other Royals stand before podiums and speak?

The articles I read feature pictures of the Royals at events, meeting people, shaking hands, waving, that sort of thing, but not much addressing crowds behind podiums.

Markle is essentially a nobody in the Royal scheme of things, yet she gives speeches? What could she possibly have to say?

They've made the decision to suddenly start focusing on veterans because nothing else has panned out, and they put too much stock in their "standing ovation" last night, is my guess. Plus a little guilt from Harry about abandoning his guys for a Disney premiere.

@Holly - Kate struggles with public speaking though she's been trying to do it more often recently. There seems to have been a great increase in her confidence since Louis was born. In his christening photos you could she utterly adores him. In the early royal days she was very stiff around children too, but now that's one of her greatest strengths.

Kate was criticised severely for all kinds of things for YEARS but has won out in the end. Maybe seeing her new sister-in-law make such a mess of things gave her a new-found appreciation of her own qualities, just as it did for many of us. Remember Kate WAS hassled a lot in her years as William's girlfriend and a well-sourced book recorded how the press was driving dangerously after her once and she pleaded with them to be careful. Whereas Meghan made a farrago of nonsense about supposed threats to her when no one even knew who she was. Kate was plastered across tabloids for years before she had the security she has now.

Someone mentioned on here recently (Swampwoman?) how seeing Kate makes her smile. I realised the same for me too. I'm just about old enough to be Kate's mother, but seeing or thinking of her makes me raise my game. makes me put in a little more effort, be a little bit kinder (except to you-know-who as there are limits) and be more patient and uncomplaining (except for ... !!!) Honestly, Meghan's wearing out my soul.

Yes, shes over there basking in the limelight and using every opportunity to flash those recently refreshened white teeth Hollyweird style, but i don’t expect a Crystal/ Alexis family brawl in the fountain during tomorrows events. She’ll be on her best behaviour, looking her best in a slightly too tight dress, FM shoes, clawing at JH, while he looks ever so slightly uncomfortable. She needs to sell her and JH’s “billion dollar” brand to the real-decision-making billionaires in order get the money rolling in. She’s made quite a few train-wreck moves and needs to right that ship now. All eyes will be on her and this may be her biggest audience for a long time.
After the Harkles have moved on, it’s back to business as usual for the Firm. Wills & Kate have stepped up their game a lot and doing a fantastic job. The Wessexs as well. Charles and Camilla , Anne, and of course HM are doing great. https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/trudeau-under-fire-for-saying-some-vets-want-more-than-government-can-afford

In 2018, a vet asked Trudeau at a town hall why Trudeau had reneged on his election promise. In August 2015, Trudeau said that if he was elected, veterans would no longer have to fight the government in court for fair and equitable compensation for injuries received while in uniform.

The Liberals also promised to re-instate lifelong disability pensions for injured veterans, which were replaced by a lump-sum payment, rehabilitation programs and targeted-income support in 2006.

But upon taking power, the Liberals continued to fight a lawsuit filed against the previous Conservative government by six injured veterans demanding the re-instatement of the old pensions.

Trudeau famously responded that the vets were" asking for more than Canadians could afford", while Trudeau's Liberals continued to waste money on their own pet projects and Trudeau himself flew by private jet from one climate change conference to another.

More recently, we discovered that Trudeau was using Canadian taxpayer's money to pay millions for Markle security, while Canadian vets continue to suffer.

That was a clever move to center their charitable work arounds vets. No one can say no to that so it will bring in money.. enough for the Smirkles with a little left over for the vets.

However, supporting the military doesn't jibe with the woke image that they like to portray.

No matter what they choose to support, the next few years might be difficult for fundraising as we seem headed for a Covid 19 triggered recession. Corporate profits will drop and individual investors have already ben hit with a 10% drop in their investments with no sign of a bottom at this point.

They will be starting their charitable organization at a time when people's interests are focussed elsewhere.

It's just that she's been thru so much, and she responds with grace. She remains silent, she's never had a go at her SIL publicly (oh, if only Rach could say the same) or the press or her in-laws, nothing. She just keeps classic and carries on. I don't care what any nuttier says about Kate - call her vapid or whatever the hell else - I doubt any of us could have responded with the quiet grace and dignity Kate possesses, and I also think she's a good sport, lovely, a loving wife/mother/friend/DIL/friend/daughter/sister by all accounts. All things I admire about her and aspire to in my own life (and heaven knows, I screw it up every day!)

I'm American, and don't completely understand the concept of the Commonwealth, but surely as President and VP of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, the Harkles need to be at this very important ceremony to honor the Commonwealth, which I assume was scheduled well ahead of time. And she darn sure wasn't going to let Harry waltz away from his scheduled military commitments, especially after the Lion King debacle.

It can't be easy to be Queen and deal with your family as just mom and grandma. I'm sure she doesn't want to be seen as overbearing or pulling rank. (The direct heirs probably get a lot more input, and understandably so.) She let Andrew date a porn start, for crying out loud, and by all accounts quite liked her.

She's basically let the Harkles live their lives/dig their own hole right up until it bordered on being a legal issue and reached an untenable level of ripping off British taxpayers. I wish Harry had never met Meghan, but it would look rather petty of HM to interfere in the intimate details of a 38 year old grandson who is safely far enough away from the throne. I do wish she had told them a fancy wedding was not an option, but other than that, what else could she have reasonably done without coming across as a controlling old woman?

I've said before I think Her Majesty probably understands Harry wanting to break free more than any one else. I'm sure she was disappointed that he was shirking his duties, but I'm sure part of her understood his wanting to leave. But she did have to stop him using his status for financial gain, and I think she's succeeded fairly well. Peter Phillips made that milk commercial, which is worse than anything Meghan's done so far. (In terms of exploiting her position, anyway. In spiteful bitchiness she has no equal. And I'm hoping the knife she gave Catherine was some sort of fancy chef's knife)

I feel like HM is reminding Harry exactly what he is walking away from. the military duties, wearing his uniform, the charity type events that HE likes. He has had people applauding him at these events and good press for his entire life. (whether they are doing it because they truly support him or are obligated to is a question though). What he has been doing this last week is "normal" for him. It is his normal life. He is walking away to attempt to create a fantasy normal life that he has in his head.

TQ let Will & Kate take time off to adjust to married life. Then to have family time before he had to buckle down and be the future King. I think TQ would've let H&M do the same. But M did NOT want the Royal life at all. She wants the celebrity life. She has filled H's head with all these fantasy scenarios of what their life will be like and the fantasy is, so far, not becoming reality.

I am truly hoping PC keeps cutting their budget. If he really believes security is necessary, PC can pay for it (or TQ) out of their own pockets. And maybe cut their "fun" money.

OT Alert for others:

Yes, finally he sent me a 'nice' letter but with no return address and we have talked very briefly twice (once today for about 10 minutes. He was basically picking my brain about medical stuff. I did not push about discussing anything else as I have to start small or he will hang up. But it is a start, a promising one. Thank you for asking!

I totally agree with your feelings about Kate. She makes me smile, she is wholesome, she cares about people and her causes. I especially respect the work she is doing with her Early Childhood initiative. She is a great wife, mother, and photographer! She has good relationships with her family and Will's family. She does her duty with respect, grace, and represents the BRF well. She is an asset. I would love to have her as a friend.

Someone earlier said they would love to dish with Camilla. I would, too! Smirkle was foolish to cross her.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...

The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
