How will Meghan distract from Prince Philip's funeral tomorrow?

Saturday afternoon April 17 is the funeral for Prince Philip, a little more than a week after his death.

It's been a remarkable time for the media, which has published numerous stories about how humane and kind this seemingly crotchety old man really was on a one-to-one basis.

My personal favorite came from White House butler Lywood Westray, who served various Presidents for 32 years. When Elizabeth and Philip visited in 1979, the Prince had apparently had enough of the stuffed shirts - and, perhaps, of the Carter family - and hid away from the party for a drink with the staff.

"The prince was in there by himself, which was odd, because everybody else had gone down to the other end of the building," Westray says. "I said, 'Your Majesty, would you care for a cordial?' He says, 'I'll take one if you let me serve it.' What do you do? I didn't do all that because I had the stuff in my hand. And he says, 'If you let me pour it, I'll have one with you.'

"... So he poured it, the one he wanted, and we took the same thing that he had. And we had our drink there together and had a little talk while we were there. He told us if we were ever over there in London to stop at Buckingham Palace and see him. Can you imagine the prince serving you? I enjoyed it. You know, we're not supposed to drink and carry on at that time. We're not guests. It was just the three of us in the room, so nobody knew what happened. And I drank my little cordial, we all drank, and had a little conversation. But that was one thing I'll never forget, having been served by royalty."

The memories of Philip are just the kind of thing to bring people together, which Meghan must hate, because she prefers to tear people apart.

As the world prepares for Philip's funeral, it seems inevitable that Meg will do something to bring attention to herself.

What will it be?

Early birth scare

The most obvious approach would be a rush to the hospital to give birth to the daughter she is (supposedly) carrying, perhaps to be named Filippa or some version of Philip's name. (Or "Drew" - Philip's middle name was Andrew, and Meg could get a Drew Barrymore reference as well. Diana Drew Mountbatten-Windsor?)

A "just contractions" false alarm scare would do the trick as well, as would having one of Meg's very good friends, who always seem to be so talkative, release rumors of a Philip-related name.

Other options for attention

The British Consulate in Los Angeles is currently working remotely, so there's no opportunity to go sign the condolence book, as the Duke and Duchess did for the victims of the New Zealand massacre.

Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited a California cemetery on the most recent Remembrance Day, it seems unlikely Meg will repeat that performance, which got universally poor reviews.

What do you think Meghan will do to steal the spotlight during Prince Philip's funeral?

On a slight tangent here, I'm sure that Meghan has noticed that there is a lot of attention being paid to a younger female in the family - Lady Louise, the 17-year-old daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex.

Louise has been appearing with her parents repeatedly at flower viewings and the like. She was reportedly quite close to her grandfather Philip, since they shared the hobby of carriage racing. Louise has been photographed riding in her carriage at least twice since her grandfather's death.

How long until Meghan notices that the spotlight in the family has shifted to a young woman who is less than half her age? (Even her fake one).

In addition, Louise is not a traditional beauty. How long until Meghan's less pleasant followers begin making unkind comments and perhaps awful memes?

A classy dame wouldn't go after what appears to be a shy young woman just beginning to grow in confidence. But no one ever said Meghan was a classy dame.
Nutty Flavor said…
@Lucy, that's a very good guess.

The timing might work well, too. Mid-day UK time is morning show time in the US.

The only hitch might be that Gayle King does not normally host the morning show. The hosts seem to be these individuals, none of whom I recognize.

The ladies' dresses seem a bit low-cut for the morning show, however. (Wasn't Scarlett O'Hara warned against low-cut morning dresses in "Gone with the Wind"?)
Ava C said…
@Nutty on Louise - I don't even want to go there. A no-go area. Meghan had better not go there either. Louise always seems very vulnerable to me, which is my reason for saying this. I don't know why, now she is the age she is, but I still feel this very strongly. There are such sharp, critical metaphorical knives out there and she shouldn't ever be subjected to them.
Apparently Scooby is going to report live from Windsor tomorrow for ABC. I'm sickened.

I think it could be an intruder situation at Montecito. Not long ago there was a story in the media about all the calls made to the police from the home. Laying the groundwork.
Nutty Flavor said…
@nope, that's a very good guess. I think we're going to get some kind of live intruder story at some point, perhaps an excuse to move away from Montecito.

@puds I can also picture a black hat with a little veil, maybe a black version of the Kermit green number she wore for the Commonwealth service.

Oh my goodness my heart skipped a beat. I have set recordings with 2 different stations for tomorrow morning and I wasn't sure if ABC was one. Phew, it wasn't. As far as GK and CBS I don't watch anything on that channel so it would never be my go to station.

If I was Meghan I think I'd be about to spontaneously combust. Feels as if she has no options left but rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat. Nothing is working. Even 'suicide threats' lead to a general reaction of "Yeah, whatever ..." She's sold all the silver (not hers, his) and the cupboard is bare. All she ever had is one story. We've heard it. Poked holes in it. Laughed at it. Shouted at it. Kicked it around. We're done. She's done. Anything else she does now will look pathetic.

It's springtime now. The Queen took her corgis out today to enjoy the fine weather. Tomorrow she will do us proud. William and Catherine will do us proud. While Harry will exhaust his scowling quota for the year.

At least with his wife away we can be reasonably sure he won't be scrambling over the chairs at the end, all the better to push in.

Never seen this one before. Meghan at the altar and she only has eyes for the Archbishop. Zoom in on her face. Sleazy and diabolical. I'm only grateful I can't see the Archbishop's face.

Did any other bride - let alone a royal one - ever have an expression like this at the altar? I find it jaw-dropping.

Ha ha, @Acquitaine! Yes, one must have a B&W image from the back for all of life's important moments.

Alternately, perhaps we'll have Meg sitting beneath the "tree of life" in her garden, showing Archie a picture book with images of his newly deceased great-grandfather.
The BBC coverage will be safe in the hands of Huw Edwards - I've just seen the programme of interviews from Windsor - I was moved to tears by the mention of the DoE visiting the families of the 2 crew who'd died in a Nimrod crash - I believe I knew the pilot.

As for the rest...

I fear if she goes after Louise she will do it via some sort of rumors about Prince Edward - hit the girl via her dad as a back off Wessexes, there is only one queen. Then again that could be risky, sophie is a favorite of the queen

if harry stops answering her calls, texts and doesnt provide a single behind the scene tidbit, could she just up and leave. he comes back to the US and the house is cleared out and the creditors are banging at the door. shes laid low (no pap walk herself, no zoom calls in a while) so whats another few weeks. show up on potential hubby number 4? doorstep. "My husband's family took my archie, and my husband left me." What a sob story and sticks it to harry for going back without her (especially if it appears he is unsuccessful getting $$$) What's harry suppose to do. Call the authorities? if there is no archie with them, what is he gonna report? He would have known about the fraud. Hes then forced to quarantine due to covid before he can head back to the UK if he even goes there he would have no where to go back to. two more weeks will then pass Maybe she reappears but nothing until Cambridges anniversary. Somehow i think she is gonna make Harry pay big time for not securing funds and for going to the UK without her and for being the wrong diana son

Going back to previous comments re Eugenie and Beatrice - I have no complaints about them per se, BUT it must have been hard for them seeing their Mother ostracised from the RF, particuarly by PP who no doubt had his reasons, one wonders how they could maintain a loving relationship with a grandpa who wouldn't give their mother the time of day, not sure where I am going with this....

On another note - just saw the photo of Mia Tindall and Prince Philip taken by Kate. I am thinking the family has tons of great photos like that. Good for her! and boy someone will be seething in Monetcito.

On a less sinister note than my post above, the amusement parks are opening back up in California - maybe she will photoshop her head and the elusive archie on a log ride at Universal studios ala Diana alone with the boys Remember that pic was about a year after the Morton book came out.

She will be pictured outside a church tomorrow. Or maybe not - she cannot bear it if the only pic of her is one where she wears a tent.

Nutty is back!

@Puds
From the previous Nutty blog posting-
You have definitely been tracking Andrews monetizing shenanigans. Why wouldn't Megs/Hapless think they could merch their titles, same as Andrew did with his Pitch@Palace

YOU:
The Pitch at the Palace ended under a bit of a big cloud. It came out that Prince Andrew was taking a cut from each deal set up and also taking expenses out of the coffers. Although set up as a business Prince so it was legit, Prince A also set up a Charity with the same name. Many though all profits were going to Charity and were shocked that Prince A was profiting from using the state owned Buck House and his royal title to drum up business for his Company and purse and investors.

I am sure this ended up as an example of why the Royals cannot be seen to be personally profiting from their titles and the BRF.

There are a few articles on the net how Prince A came to have millions to buy a half share in a 13 million Swiss Chateau (the Queen had to bail him out with a 6 million loan as he failed to maintain his loan on the remainder 6 million to the owner of the chalet. Prince A income is supposedly £270,000 a year that includes an army pension.

Megs eyes must have lit up at the Queen coming to the rescue of Prince A for 6 million and has relied on that for getting Harry out of any financial mess and probably a future divorce. This is probably why they are so keen to say Granny loves us we love her

I agree on all this. Yikes! So Andrew got his secret skim off all the Pitch@Palace action to pay for his Swiss ski chalet and other matters. Some of these Shark Tank like Pitch meets were held on Royal premises. Queenie even made an appearance at one.

My add on as posted before, is that A with Epstein was not only about getting it on (sex) with Epstein's floating harem of young 'uns, though not pedophile sex as far as I know. The other 50% was Epstein as Andrew's financial guru in schemes such as Pitch@Palace. With Epstein coming up with the Pitch@Palace idea. With Epstein telling A -- "I am a working class Jew from the Bronx. You are in the British Royal Family. You are stone cold stupid to not be making millions off your Royal title and status. Given my origins, a status I could never dream of. So...Here is what you should do...."

If MM is going to do something, she might dress all in black with perhaps a fetching hat, and go and pray in an Anglican church. Just by chance, and pure coincidence, you understand, there will be a press photographer (Backgrid etc, take your pick) who will find MM kneeling, eyes closed, praying and remembering Philip. I've looked up Anglican churches in Santa Barbara and there is the Anglican Church Of Our Savior that could fit the bill. Don't forget that MM was baptised and confirmed into the Anglican church by no less that Justin Welby.

@Pantsface about Fergie - yes it all makes you realise the royals are not like us at all. I actually find Fergie's continuing presence the only redeeming quality about Prince Andrew. I've seen quite a number of readers say the same online when this comes up. I would be happy to see them remarry in time, but only if they avoid re-running the debts and controversies. They just need to stay quiet and do what they're told. That's all any of them have to do. Honestly. How hard can it be? You'd think we were asking them to plan man's first landing on Mars, the mess some of them make of it.

Mind you, I've always had a fellow feeling for Fergie during her early time in the royal family. If servants were bringing me afternoon tea every day, I'd have been tucking into cake and scones with abandon too. I could never have been as self-disciplined as Catherine in a million years.

Louise has v thick hair, practically growing out of her forehead. This shows strong vitality and strong inherited constitution. Sophie has this but less so. Too much hair is always better than too little. (like her father lol) Too much can be remedied by specialists. Or cut hair to bangs aka fringes in UK.

Ha ha, the Rose Parade. For non-Americans, it looks like this.

Big floats made of roses with celebrities waving from them, plus voiceovers with sports-like commentary as they come down the street.

Gayle could do the commentary as the mourners enter the service.

"And here comes the next mourner...it's Lady Penelope, the Countess Mountbatten of Burma! Nice of the Queen to invite her along...she was Philip's constant companion in his final years. Lady Penelope is wearing a black Dior suit to the funeral, last seen at the funeral of Prince Henrik of Denmark in 2019, plus a flower brooch originally given to her by her husband, the third Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Welcome, Lady Penny."

Ouch.

@Nutty - Although Philip was handsome well into his 70s, time has not been as kind to Edward, William, Andrew, etc.

When William is in uniform, he can still look devastating. It's because the top of his head is covered. He has great facial bone structure and an impressive physique. He looks his best in uniform. Ceremonies like tomorrow's are for the history books and it should have been a valuable opportunity to show the gradual transfer of power. William looking like a future king, in uniform, would have been a key part of that. He would steady the ship. Now that visual power has been diluted, all to save the face of someone who doesn't even deserve to be there.

George and Louis look like they have Michael Middleton hair so they shouldn't have to cope with losing much of it while still young. I'm so, so angry with Harry right now, but one way to feel better is to imagine Harry in his 50s (his customary petulance is already eroding what remains of his youth), faced with two devastatingly handsome nephews who are only going to go on being devastatingly handsome for years and years and years. I shouldn't take pleasure in something like that but Harry deserves everything he gets.

It would basically be a re-run of middle-aged Randy Andy at the time William was going off to university but with a crucial difference. Andrew was going to get his money whatever. Harry needs to be able to sell himself in the marketplace. How can he do that when any claim to good looks has gone and there are more exciting, relevant royals around? Proper, untainted, young, energetic royals whose parents have brought them up to behave? I don't know how Harry sleeps at night, I really don't.

BBC World Service is free on the internet- to listen to live.
So one can listen to this while watching the video w/ sound off in the US, on NBC, CBS or whatever. Cutting out the Gayle King commentary.
I haven't caught up with the most recent comments yet but shall return to them once I've posted this:

WPOS was probably given a Mission for tomorrow with several tasks to be accomplished:

- corner his father and demand money, with menaces perhaps

- find our what Grandpa has left him, and how soon they can get their hands on it

- make sure Gan-Gan still loves him and will leave him money

- wear a fancy costume to look good in footage for Netflix/or stand out for being the only one in civvies -so they can say how mean the Queen has been

- walk shoulder to shoulder with William to indicate that they are still joined at the hip and he is in the RF's good books and...

- ...thereby emphasising that he has near-regal status and is worth his weight in gold

So, the more I think about it, the more the dress code and processional plan look like masterstrokes:

-they deprive him of footage for Netflix in which he stands out.

-they send a clear message across the Atlantic that, for all his claims that he has made up with William, no such rapprochement has happened. He is still in bad odour.

Thus they deprive him of the commercial value he and she hoped he would gain. He has subtly been discredited.

Should she put in an appearance as a special guest, her fury will be apparent to all.

Apologies to anyone who may already have posted along these lines.

Going back to the funeral arrangements, does this set a bad precedent for when the Queen dies? Nobody’s military standing will have changed by then, so will the family forgo military uniforms for their Commander in Chief? I think letting the Sussexes get their way on Commonwealth Day and for Philip’s funeral was wrong. These are adults who need to know their place. And it’s at the back of the royal line, without uniforms.

LA antiques dealer Alvin Azell Ragland, using bent old photoshopped images pulled off some poor unknown sucker's FB feed. The warm memories of grandpa Alvin will go through to the day this lithe dancer and active ladies' man tripped and fell onto the sidewalk in front of his house while walking his old dog, got three blunt force trauma injuries on three different sides of his head, and Doria found him and immediately claimed ownership of his house and all property, while her brother got nothing. And Doria and Meghan moved to Windsor Hills.

We will then jump to memories of her ten minute visit to the senior center in England, where she gobsmacked dozens of oldies in her three-sizes-too-small white print summer dress and rectangular hooklike bump. Oh, how much she learned that day from the wisdom of these elders! We must embrace the wisdom of elders, people in their 40s and even 50s, she will purr to her teen sugars.

And then we go to the last image of Megs taking a laughing, happy ride on top of a London bus with Prince Philip, who looks unusually portly with a loose face the breeze seems to catch, but, whatever! As we watch images of the bus speeding past the swaying palm trees of London, we are treated to the sight of Meghan feeding ladyfingers to Philip. "We...we loved each other," her voiceover will sigh. "The mother elephant keeps moving forward, but we, Philip and I, Megan Markle, took the bus one day to Oxford, only to discover each other."

Gayle will pause this flow and say, "Wait, what? What? You and the late Prince found each other? How?"

Camera cuts to a split screen. There's Meghan, in widow's black, gulping, eyes darting right and left, and then she says it: "I had to leave the country.because....Philip! He and I...happened! ! It was like a fairytale...and it was Philip and I all along, and Philip and I who had an eternal promise ceremony three days before I married Harry! This is the secret that tore me apart, seeing him at a distance in the castle grounds, always on his way back to....to....to....HER! But, he didn't love, it was an arranged marriage, he said he first felt love with...." Her voice drops along with her mink lashes, "....me."

Split screen of Megs and Gayle! Gayle babbles "oh my god!" And Meghan waves a hand and says, I made the sacrifice and I left, but, I wanted to say it today, so Archie would be able to look back on the tapes and have this one memory to hold, on the day the whole world found out who...who...his real father is: Philip."

Gayle makes a giant O with her mouth and her agile comma eyebrows invert themselves. Meghan smiles coyly and adds, "We've had to hide Archie's face for this reason, it's really so obvious when you see them sude by side." Cut to: Image of Philip sitting on a car in the 1940s, and a black and white photo of a baby photoshopped with the face of 50-year-old Philip. "This is my truth, and my truth is Philip's passion for me."

"Oh my God!" says Gayle, fanning herself. "They're identical! How did you keep this secret for so long! How are you doing today --- are you okay? I mean, today, the funeral, how long has it been since---"

"I couldn't bear to go," Megs sighs, brushing a tear from her dry eyes. "I said to Harry, Let Her Majesty have this day, because I....I had his love, and his baby. This is his true legacy. And, Archie's real name is Philip Philip Philip Mountbatten-Windsor."

Jeremy Vine made the all-white invitation list remarks. Got slammed for it too. Most making the point that its " a you know... FAMILY!. And most families tend to look alike, particularly those who average age is roughly 101."

I think MM will cosplay Queen Marys outfit from King George VI funeral (except with butt-pads), put Archie in a little black short pants suit and head for the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where they will be met by Madame Delphine, the greatest living medium.

Setting up by Marilyn Monroes crypt, the pair will try to reach Prince Philip and zoom messages from him to the commentators Malibu Ken, OW2, and Tom Terrific. Naturally, PP may have a lot to say to Marilyn as well.

Afterwards, a spirited 2nd line parade will escort MM and Archie home tying up traffic throughout Southern California for hours.

Shades of Evelyn Waugh

or
She is going to zoom in to whichever of those a$$h*les lets her. Probably all three.

@Midge, sure thing! Very welcome. I hope it is tolerable tomorrow. Been concerned about having to mute it. I trust WBBM as she has a lot more experience with the commentator than I do.
@JennS, I think you are right about her having herself videoed tomorrow. Didn't Enty say she had lined up a camera crew for the week 6 is gone? Reckon she'll be Gayle's special guest, too. Can't let a crisis...I mean oppo go to waste, you know.

I have a technical question about getting access to the BBC1 televised funeral coverage tomorrow. Perhaps someone here might be able to offer advice, please, if it’s not too much trouble?

I live in the US but have access to a British VPN. Last night I went on BBC iplayer (I have an account) and learned that the coverage of PP’s funeral will not be available until after it is over.

I can watch the live broadcast on Fox News (the most palatable to me of the options here), but I just know that BBC’s will be superior (and probably have no commercial interruptions, which are inevitable on American TV).

Does anyone know how I can watch the funeral live on the BBC?

Thanks.

The idea of not using her name is catching on! Take that, WPOS's wife!

I think WPOSess will be regaling Gayle King and Tom Bradby with stories of all of her special times with PP. How she made secret trips up to Balmoral to take long walks along the River Dee and in the heathered hills with “Phil”; spent quality time with him at Wood Farm while he was away from the Queen, soaking in his wisdom, and sitting enthralled before a blazing fire as he shared the intimate secrets of his decades as head of the Royal Family; snuck in to the Buckingham Palace kitchens to bake him her famous banana bread and vegan cupcakes; gave him private Senior Yoga lessons which greatly enhanced the last years of his life; and just generally cemented her place in his heart as his favorite grand-daughter-in-law.

P.S. I know I can’t compete with AnT’s brilliance, but I needed to vent by fantasizing about WPOSess’ response to PP’s funeral.
@Rebecca, yours is great too! I can totally imagine it-such a funny mental movie! Entirely possible. Who knows, maybe she's scrolling through the posts right now looking for ideas! She has to try to outdo Mike Tindall's photo of Mia and PP eating, right? Your scenario would be right on track.

@Rebecca,

mine is just the live reveal. Yours is the gorgeous true, in-depth story of their special joyful relationship. The moments only they knew about. Yours is also the perfect shot sequence for the next Netflix documentary: Philip and I: December Love. Fantastic. I think we’re onto something about the truth if we both veered this way!

But definitely I think she will appear as a guest of Gayle and yap about the (never happened) closeness she had with Philip.

I am loving reading everyone’s ideas. Literally any of these scenarios and conjectures is possible, which is kind of terrifying.

God Save the Queen.
'AvaC : re Anglican baptism

For centuries, it has been the practice in the CofE and it predecessors to perform infant baptism (aka `Christened') from the belief that the unbaptised cannot enter Heaven. Baptism is the rite by which one enters church/becomes a member - symbolised by fonts usually being by the entrance door.

The essentials are water used in making the sign of the cross on the candidate, usually with a finger that has been dipped into water, while saying it's being done `in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit'. The essentials are the water and the Trinitarian formula.
I'm not sure that the child even has to be named. In an emergency, as when a newborn is on the point of death, anyone may perform the rite - it has to be registered later, though, at the appropriate place, such as the parish church - and repeated formally later in case something wasn't quite right. If the child does die, the parents have the consolation of knowing it was baptised.

Adult candidates may choose to be baptised by full immersion but this is more common in the Evangelical/born again wing of the Church, where one finds Welby. This is in accordance with a belief that one should be a `believer' to be baptised (in the full service for infant baptism, others make the promises on behalf of the child, who may then be `Confirmed' by the Bishop in their teens or adulthood. Full immersion of adults is not necessary.

I was baptised at 5 months and confirmed at 21, when I was sure that my place was in the CofE.

BTW `Original sin' is not what we usually think of as `sin' or `wickedness' - it's more the idea that we are all flawed and tend to `go off course' - as Wiki puts it 'inherit a tainted nature and a proclivity to sin'.

Have a look at a cageful of our closest relatives, chimpanzees, to see what happens when our shared inheritance is allowed to let rip!

I love the image of H's wife-to-be emerging like a showgirl from a cake - I daresay she'd rather have been a Botticelli Venus, with only a wig as cover.

Rebecca you have VPN that can say you are in the UK. Then for sure you can see it live on internet via BBC iPlayer. Though perhaps the servers will get swamped, so there might be problems. My guess is the BBC will also broadcast it live via youtube (no stops and stutters there!) as will many other broadcasters. Who knows. Perhaps BBC iPlayer will also work for us in the USA without VPN.

A fashion photographer I’ve worked has said for about three years now that Louise is the one to watch, that she has a unique kind of natural star quality and will be a showstopper whatever she chooses to do in life. Natural presence. I think he’s right.

In any event, she seems happy and at peace with her family and life and carriage driving, a sort of shy but calm presence, and that is what matters. I think they’re raising her beautifully (and her brother). Thought the photos of their beach cleanup were sweet, too.

Wow thanks for BBC youtube feed. Sure seems to be preferred choice. Watch on big screen with their commentary. Hopefully decent sync or cut tv altogether

@WBBM I completely agree with the lackluster apparel worn by all, glorifying none, Peter as buffer between H&M.. Really diminishes "the look" and oooo H is gonna be in trouble . I really hope it was all newspaper hype and HM was not subjected to intense uniform drama. It also in a way signifies family unity , military will have ample presence. Sure to strike right mix, hopefully.

I do think PC has looked pretty good compared to past years, but not lately he looks broken and shell of man . Almost has look of doom and overcome with sorrow. Is it selfish or more so for state of RF,mom in particular, Harry. Yorks . Camilla looks defeated. Just my opinion as I do not see infrequently. Shame as stories I have read seem PC was more in competition with his boys than father. I am talking out of turn though as that is outsider looking in.

I saw that CBS vaccination story on Easter at my dad's. I did not know background but that segment was diabolical according to next day's headlines. There was however great story on some teenagers that ran away via boat and shipwrecked for a year. Pretty great :/

I hope tomorrow The Queen finds comfort and feels the love of all supporters and mourners. I honestly felt prayers of everyone during Mom's funeral. It was uplifting and soothing. Was rather sweet of my dad too as he, my sister and I were at back of church about to take our seats. Not the most emotional man and we were still so stunned and he ever so cutely swung his arm in air and exclaimed "let's go send mom to Heaven!" Granted it was like 5 days later so I would hope she kinda was there already smiling down upon on us. But anyhow, It was cute. Combo dad baseball coach and new role of dad and mom. I hope HM has comprable feeling of undeniable love and unintentional humor. God bless everyone and tomorrow may we all send Prince Philip to Heaven 😘

@Oh Floof - Going back to the funeral arrangements, does this set a bad precedent for when the Queen dies? Nobody’s military standing will have changed by then, so will the family forgo military uniforms for their Commander in Chief? I

I don't know why this question hadn't occurred to me. I got instantly angry with Harry again (0 to 100 in 2 seconds) but it should be different. Shouldn't it? The Queen's funeral will be a state funeral. The full works. It's inconceivable to me that this plain clothes version would happen again.

We have been told that Charles wanted to issue a point-by-point rebuttal to the Sussexes after the interview. William wanted to make their case too. That suggests it is more likely than not that, next time, Harry would be told to take a long walk off a short pier. He can attend or not as he pleases but they will be in uniform and he ... won't.

Given it will be a state funeral, maybe it will be clearer that everything is ceremonial, including the uniforms. The criteria for entitlement is so much more evident. It's ceremonial this time - Prince Philip in his ceremonial naval uniform for goodness sake - but if it's for the Queen they can perhaps break the link with actual military service, which has affected this funeral so much. Of course the Queen was in the ATS but I don't mean that. I mean the end of a reign is a huge ceremonial occasion.

As for Andrew, well we already know Charles would have no problem depriving his brother of what he wants. So that's not a problem. Assuming Andrew hasn't rehabilitated himself by then. I doubt even another decade will see him put the FBI in his diary.

Curious, since the Disastrous Duo went ahead and did the Oprah interview complaining about security... They knew Prince Philip was on his death bed. They released statements to the media stating they wouldn't try to stop the abomination interview from being aired and accused the RF of trying to use Phillips health as excuse to "muzzle " them, they have been putting out about "alarms" at mudslide manor, and now the petty uniform tantrum for the funeral. The public is getting frustrated with these two tarts antics. I feel like they are trying to "poke the bear" with the public, so an actual loonatic might try something (not just an orchestrated harmless threat). If so, the RF could be guilted into paying for the unnecessary and extravagant security entourage for the useless tarts and probably a few more things for "not believing them" sooner. If Charles becomes King, wouldn't he be able to use Duchy of Lancaster funds as his personal income?
@Rebecca et al

Let me add that she-who-must-not-be-named will go on and on about her "secret" meetings with PP (because she does love her secrets). None will be verifiable of course but she will natter on like an un-neutered cat.

I must be honest, I didn't know much about the RF untile the Disastrous Duos engagement. I have learned a lot from the knowledgeable posters on this blog. The Tindalls and Wessexs are my favorite royals. They are the most relatable, IMO. I didn't even know who Price Edward was until someone posted a link of him 'stabbing' a cake at an event. His personality was infectious, and I instantly liked him. I have seen photos and videos of Sophie doing charity work. She NEVER scans the room or looks for the cameras. She just "gets on with it" without needing to squawk to the world about all the good things she does. The video last year of the Wessex family clapping for NHS was the first time I saw their children. Both lovely and seem to be grounded in reality.
I have seen some photos of the Tindals with the Cambridge family out on a field playing. Video of Mike telling jokes at the horse race and everyone laughing. I don’t know much about Zara other than the "Warrior Mommy" bit and the speeding ticket story. But their little family looks 'normal' too from what I have seen. They seem to mesh well with other royals.
I wonder if Bea and Eugenie will start having more outings at the park with the rest of the family now that they have kiddos in their homes- Once Covid restrictions get lifted and life returns to some normalcy.

I suspect The Queen will wear the Chrysanthemum Brooch, that she wore in her honeymoon and 60th anniversary photos at Broadlands. With her three-strand pearl necklace.

If Harry were married to a decent woman, who had a legitimate health reason not to attend the funeral, what would that woman do publicly on the day of the funeral? Nothing, with perhaps a later release of a photo of her at home, wearing a modest, tasteful black dress. Whatever that hypothetical decent woman would do, the WPOSess will do the opposite.

You’re so right about the WPOSess....she seems to have an insatiable desire to do awful, provoking things at the worst moments....it has to be part of her mental issues. Any other royal wife would know how to conduct herself properly. The Duchesses of Wessex and Cambridge, and Camilla, prove that one can “marry in” and behave with respect and grace. The WPOSess on the other hand is just a void. A glued-together messy exterior persona, loud and crude, but, containing a void.

Lucy, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, especially at such a young age. You are absolutely correct about stomach upset being a common sign of heart attack in women. Women can also have the classic chest pain/tightness, and pain down the left arm, but that is often not the case. Nausea and stomach pain are common. Also, if someone describes chest or abdominal pain as "tearing" or "ripping" get help IMMEDIATELY. Such pain is most likely from a dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm, which is a true medical emergency.

And if anyone, man or woman, ever says they have a feeling of impending doom, no matter how normal they might look, get them to a doctor asap. Sometimes that is the only sign of a problem.

My bets are that Meghan either has a camera crew at the mudslide mansion to put video or at a minimum a still photo of her all dressed up in black, clutching her fake bump, all teary-eyed watching the funeral on tv. Maybe with Archie on her lap. And a photo of HMTQ and PP on a table in the background prominently featured among other photos.

If Harry doesn’t fly back to Cali right after the funeral, she will claim early labor, another intrusion, or if Archie has a runny nose (and what baby doesn’t have a runny nose), she will claim he is ill and Harry must return home right away.

Once Harry gets back to the mudslide mansion he will be debriefed by Meghan for any nuggets of useful information before sending Harry to his room in the basement next to the furnace.

@Girl with a Hat: If Meghan either calls in to Gayle or does a video link with her during the funeral coverage, it would be the ultimate, no, it would be beyond the ultimate in disrespect to Philip, HMTQ, the Royal Family and the citizens of the UK who will be mourning his passing tomorrow.

Tacky, thirsty, grasping and inappropriate do not begin to describe a stunt like that as she masquerades as someone with empathy, who in reality does not have a shred of empathy for anyone. Ever.

But for a narcissist like Meghan, the uproar created by such a stunt would provide tremendous fuel for her, and it would provide her with a bit of a sense of control, which is one of the driving forces for any narc, let alone a profoundly narcissistic person like Meghan.

Thank you everyone so much for kind thoughts on mom. I appreciate very much. She really was my best friend and when she died my first thought was "oh my gosh I gotta call my mom to tell my mom, my mom just died" sounds weird but that's how it was. Followed closely by "her work is not done yet, I am a mess" 😉

I am at peace. She is always with me. Easter is last Holiday we shared( amazingly gifting one another same plant stuffed in exact planter) she died few days prior to Mother's Day so it was really rough, I sympathize with poster and early April sadness ( cake!) I shared details because my dad's story was cute and I had mentioned mom's death before and I didn't want to seem as though I was just "dropping it" without detail. Odd when in eachother's company so often. I really am good now and once in while it does help to share so thank you all again but knock it off as you are making me cry :)
Any future condolences, silent prayer is appreciated. I know you are not barbarians and would offer kind words as read. But tugging my heartstrings, much appreciated to those who did slip in ❤

@Petunia my ex had aortic dissection and lived to tell of it. What a long road back that was. Think only 5% survive as happening. For as many tragedies there are blessings as well.

Just wanted to slip in and thank you all. Trouble sleeping 😕

Interesting about Express article and it being PP"s request for Peter to separate boys. Did he also
forgo uniforms?

Thanks everyone again. Goodnight²

Googling photos of Lady Louise. She looks just fine. She wears no cosmetics whatsoever. If she wanted to enhance her looks a little cosmetic application would do fine.

As for the thing known as MM she has to look ready to f*ck anyone to get attention. So there's that in comparison.

Perhaps TWSNBN will call in to G from her hospital bed
where she "might" be suffering early labor (or heartburn from the el fuego tacos last night) caused by the intruder she thought might have tried to break into the box of chicken feed in the garage.

Seriously, Is Gayle teasing a special guest? Its got to be her.

Watching WPOSS is like watching the coed go up the attic steps during a storm in a horror movie. Everything in you shouts "dont do it, you dope!" but she just keeps climbing. To her doom.

The attic steps school of strategy.

And normally I would be here for it. But no more pain for HM tomorrow. Its already going to be ghastly for her.

Maybe they could keep it from the Queen for a couple of days unless WPOS tries to cadge some cash or military titles. Then she would have to be told before she sees him.

He can't be allowed to bring anything home to WPOS2 in the way of cash or prizes. And certainly no RPOs or titles.

I didnt realize until today PP felt he wasn't important enough to require security and urged his to take care of Charles and the Queen instead of him.

He must have looked at WPOS sometimes the way I look at finding a slug in my garden.

Princes William and Harry to be reunited before Prince Philip's funeral
Brothers to meet for first time in more than a year ahead of Windsor Castle service for Duke of Edinburgh

Camilla Tominey, ASSOCIATE EDITOR and Victoria Ward
16 April 2021 • 8:00pm

Some Quotes:

The Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex will be reunited behind closed doors at Windsor Castle on Saturday before laying their beloved grandfather to rest.

Members of the Royal family including Prince William and Prince Harry will gather in the State Entrance Hall before the Duke of Edinburgh's coffin emerges from the State Entrance at 2.41pm.

Assuming the brothers have not arranged a private meeting earlier on Saturday morning, it is the first time they will see each other in the flesh in over a year.

It will also mark their first face-to-face meeting since Harry and his wife Meghan gave an interview to the US chat show host Oprah Winfrey last month, suggesting an unnamed royal had queried Archie's skin tone as well as describing William as "trapped" in the monarchy.

In an apparent sign of ongoing tensions between the brothers, they will not walk shoulder to shoulder in the funeral procession but will be separated by their cousin Peter Phillips, the Queen's eldest grandchild.

On Thursday, the 94-year-old Queen stepped in to soothe tensions by ordering that none of the royals wear military dress.

It came amid concerns that Prince Harry, who relinquished his military ties after standing down as a senior royal in March 2020, could have faced the embarrassing prospect of being the only senior royal not in uniform despite twice serving on the frontline in Afghanistan.

It also followed ructions caused by the Duke of York demanding to go dressed as an Admiral, despite his promotion to that rank being deferred after he stepped back from public duties in November 2019 over his relationship with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Same here, but I want to read the next week in DM (of course!) about the yelling, shoving and fist fight between the two bros that took place in private. A few hours After PP's funeral. At least 70% of Nuttys would like this.

@Lucy, your comment reminds me so much of my mom, who I was extremely close to, and, as you wrote, my best friend too. It took about two or three years the before automatic thought of, “Oh I have to tell Mom about this,” leaving me to catch myself and remember she isn’t here.

She died in 1974 and I still miss her so much. Not only do I miss her, I feel sad that she has missed out on so much , that although I believe in heaven and that she’s there, she still got short changed on this life, especially getting to be a grandmother.

Time eases the loss, but it doesn’t entirely go away as the years pile up. I prefer to regard that little bit of remaining sadness as a type of a handle that serves to remind me how much I loved her then and still love her, so in an odd way, sadness has a purpose if you learn why a bit of it lingers on for the most special people to each of us as we make our way through this life.

Not only was the nameless one baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury but she was baptised with holy water from the River Jordan. No less! That holy water didn't purify the witch.

@HappyDays:

re The passage of time and mourning: The Queen Mother had 50 years of widowhood and said, of the pain, wtte that,

`It doesn't get easier with time - it just gets easier to deal with.'

I don't know if that's any help but they sound wise words to me.

Amanda Platell in the DM (excerpt):

'The Duchess of Sussex will still take part in the mourning. She will reportedly make 'private arrangements' to honour Prince Philip during his funeral.

Let's just hope that doesn't include sharing her innermost thoughts with Oprah Winfrey.

This is a time for quiet reflection, not public declaration of the deep bond she claims she had with Prince Philip, who she had little time to get to know and probably met only a few times.
...
Someone should point out to her that 'silent' is an anagram of 'listen' — and this is the moment to listen to the senior royals, understand their pain and follow the example set by Philip of quietly, privately supporting the monarchy.
----------

If only the witch would read this and follow the advice. Wishful thinking.

Maneki Neko:

Good point about the holy water, though I think the answer's quite simple!

Here's the declaration from the Order for Adult Baptism from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer

Question. DOST thou renounce the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desires of the same, and the carnal desires of the flesh, so that thou wilt not follow nor be led by them?

Answer. I renounce them all.

The modern (namby-pamby?) form, which I expect Welby used, is:

`Therefore I ask:

Do you turn away from sin?

I do.

Do you reject evil?

I do.'

Explanation? She lied.

The witch went to a Catholic school so should have been familiar with what baptism meant. She didn't care what she said, they were just words to get her closer to the ultimate goal. Did she ever go to church after her wedding? (rhetorical question).

"@Ava C - Fergie had a raw deal, following in the footsteps of Diana, Duchess of Pork blah blah - the wife thinks she got a raw deal, nothing compared to the hateful press back then. However, I wonder why the daughters had such a good relationship with their grandparents considering what they had to go through - I hope it was down to good parenting, regardless of what their mother went through - I hasten to add, a lot of it was her own making but at the end of the day Sarah was/is their mum, divided loyalties"

I know someone who knows the family quite well.

The York parents never ever bitched about Fergie's treatment to anyone as far as she knows. The sisters were always encouraged to love their grandpa and everyone, including the other royals and even Philip, didn't make the situation awkward for the girls.

Good manners went a long way so that Fergie never insisted on being with the family if Philip was going to be involved and everyone acted like it was normal.

It helped that Fergie seemed to blame herself for the fallout and said very publicly that she accepted the consequences of her behaviour and decisions. She's never bitched about her treatment or Philip to reporters or to friends.

Remember she also very publicly took responsibility for her parents' divorce and never developed animosity towards her own parents for their selfish behaviour especially her mother who abandoned her pretty much at the same age as Diana was abandoned by her own mother. She maintained loving relationships with both even though she admitted her hurt that her mother left her.

I think the York situation was also helped by Andrew and The Queen standing by Fergie and continuing to treat her as a beloved family member who was always welcomed even if they had to work around Philip to make it happen.

And Philip didn't treat the sisters badly or awkwardly just because he hated their mother.

And of course Fergie made sure the sisters visited their grandparents often and regularly.

I think this is where the Harkles missed an opportunity because they could have maintained Archie's relationship with The Queen and PP even if they themselves were avoiding them.

On a more positive note, I see the Service will include the Orthodox Kontakion for the Departed. (I suppose we should call it the `Ukranian' now, as it's associated with Kiev, rather than `Russian')

It's a powerful piece of music, there are a number of videos online to choose from, some in a liturgical settings, others from disc, for example:

This Canadian one is in English, very clear words, sung as a prayer for a specific memorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_tghDWzPlc&list=RD0_tghDWzPlc&start_radio=1

The Clare College version is in Russian.

Acquataine, Meg is likely to appear on Gayles pre funeral program while Harry will appear on Tom Bradbys special. I hope people boycott them. I also hope Charles and William shuns Harry. I don't trust the Queen to shun Harry because she loves playing happy families.
@Lizzie -

I too wondered that.

The only time I've heard it at a CofE service was at the memorial for all those who died (193 in all) in the `Herald of Free Enterprise' disaster (1987).

I had met it before that though - our church choir sang at 2 Russian Orthodox services for the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius (a joint Anglican/Orthodox group), once in a parish church in Winchester and once in the Greek Church in Southampton (one of our elderly ladies went round straightening all the ikons - a bit toe-curling!)

When my mother was cremated, I asked the organist to play the melody of the Kontakion as the curtains came round - not an authentic way of doing it but it seemed right. Apart from that, we just had a spoken service as the congregation was very small and trying to sing would have been a mistake. The organist couldn't believe we didn't want `The Lord's my Shepherd' - she was determined so we let he improvise on it as we entered the chapel.

My dad's USNA midshipmen cruise in the summer of 1947 (aboard the battleship Missouri, on which the Japanese had surrendered) stopped in London. He saw Princess Elizabeth drive by from the sidewalk, but his roommate (who became top midshipman in '49-50) was one of a group that was invited to a garden party at Buck Palace and shook hands with the future queen and PP. A year or so ago, I discovered that was the day their engagement was announced.

ITV had British poet laureate, Simon Armitage reading his elegy for Prince Philip this morning. I thought it was a lovely tribute to both Philip as a representative of 'the greatest generation,' as well as his personal history & roots in Greece. Not sure what Philip would have made of the line, 'disproving immortality,' given Philip's documented interest in spiritual matters, as well as the selections he made for the order of service for his own funeral. A YouTube link to a version of the Kontakion of the Departed from the Clare College Cambridge choir is below the poem. It's very lovely, as WBBM & others have pointed out.

The weather in the window this morning
is snow, unseasonal singular flakes,
a slow winter’s final shiver. On such an occasion
to presume to eulogise one man is to pipe up
for a whole generation – that crew whose survival
was always the stuff of minor miracle,
who came ashore in orange-crate coracles,
fought ingenious wars, finagled triumphs at sea
with flaming decoy boats, and side-stepped torpedoes.

Husbands to duty, they unrolled their plans
across billiard tables and vehicle bonnets,
regrouped at breakfast. What their secrets were
was everyone’s guess and nobody’s business.
Great-grandfathers from birth, in time they became
both inner core and outer case
in a family heirloom of nesting dolls.
Like evidence of early man their boot-prints stand
in the hardened earth of rose-beds and borders.

They were sons of a zodiac out of sync
with the solar year, but turned their minds
to the day’s big science and heavy questions.
To study their hands at rest was to picture maps
showing hachured valleys and indigo streams, schemes
of old campaigns and reconnaissance missions.
Last of the great avuncular magicians
they kept their best tricks for the grand finale:
Disproving Immortality and Disappearing Entirely.

The major oaks in the wood start tuning up
and skies to come will deliver their tributes.
But for now, a cold April’s closing moments
parachute slowly home, so by mid-afternoon
snow is recast as seed heads and thistledown.

I'm watching the BBC now. It's a comfort to see Windsor Castle looking so beautiful in the spring sunshine and I'm glad the Queen will be staying there most of the time from now on. You grow up knowing how old the castle is but you still can't take it in. Not properly. I'm so glad we have such continuity. Almost feels as if Queen Victoria is with the Queen now. I associate Windsor so much with her.

The BBC is now interviewing two Grenadier Guards in all their glory. In the studio where it really hits you. Such a shame that aspect will be missing in the Royal Family. Feels so wrong. For the Duke of Edinburgh of all people.
I was just outside watching the dog in the garden and thinking about the funeral, and looked up to see RIP Prince Philip in place of the route name/number on the side of our local bus as it passed the house. I'm assuming the front screen still shows the route info, although I can imagine Philip finding any confusion it might cause amusing. After watching the programme where he takes us on a tour of Windsor earlier, I can just hear him saying "should have stayed home to watch the telly" lol
Speaking of the AoC, has anyone else seen the clips of him the BBC have been running during their coverage? I keep getting an "off" sense about him in them, as soon as he pops up it puts me in a bit of a gloomy mood, not sure if it's the lighting or the man himself. I also get the sense that he *really* doesn't want to be sat there talking about it, it's like he has to drag the words out half the time. I'm not sure if it's me putting my bias on it because I dislike the man or if it's his normal talking style (never really heard him speak outside of "official" functions) so it'd be interesting to know if anyone else had been thinking the same.

She described his love of sport, his intense love of family (her main impression was his joy in family, and stories of his happiness living within her parents’ family when he was young and of no fixed abode ) and his belief in duty and more always as per their Gordonstoun education (she was educated there as well).

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...
