Beginning a New Era

What do you think the options are for them as it has been said (source Omid) this will be "a new era of visibility"?

So if this is a new era, what about the last one?  Claudia Connell wrote a long piece in the DM about this in what she describes as the "invisible year".  (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9913639/The-Sussexes-preparing-visible-phase-CLAUDIA-CONNELL-looks-year.html).  She tallies up 98 events in a 12.5 month period - averaging 7.5 (sightings? appearances? rising above the horizon?) per month so far.

Not included is the revised Finding Freedom to be released August 31st.  It is said to begin before this invisible year to include major events such as really leaving, that interview, the death of Prince Philip, the miscarriage and then Lilibet.

So, Harry will be very busy it might seem.  He has a book or two to get out, a new baby, the toddler will be ambling around, the dogs, his wife and he does have a couple of places which offer a work life of sorts.

And his wife? She has the Netflix show to produce but we haven't heard about any sort of follow through on the birthday charity (new team players or how it went for the known listees).  There still are the kids, the dogs but jobs like classroom mother or running the school carnival don't seem to be in the short term mention to public list.  What else does she have?  Spotify?

So will one dominate in the visibility sweepstakes? What about the kids? Will they be part of the new visibility?

And, will this opening up to become more visible mean that people will start asking hard questions about the misrepresented statements made in that interview?

I've been following Neil Sean for some time. I don't know why people are criticising him, but I don't have any issues with him. He does a tongue in cheek review of the 6's several times a day.

I think if you look long enough, you can find a critical comment about anyone, so I disregard and make up my own mind.

Too often, people here dismiss other people's posts by criticising the source. I don't particularly like that practice so I never do it. I'm of the opinion that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Unlike everyone who feels they must praise an award-winning, young, struggling black illustrator, I do not think the illustrations are great nor do I think they are appropriate for a children's picture book, at the age for which the book is marketed. They have great aesthetic appeal for adults, but not for pre-reading children.
--------

Agree. I am a little surprised at the illustrator agreeing to be involved in this scam. I question the integrity of anyone associating with MM.

It's particularly disgusting because you know that he was only chosen because he was black. That way people don't dare criticize.

Just like you can't criticize a 'young' mother, or a woman who just had a miscarriage.

I don't know Neil Sean, but can imagine that in the age of wokeness and cancel culture it must be a nightmare to be on TV.

I wasn't criticising the post or the poster, but wondering who Neil Sean was as his name crops up and he seems to be a cheerleader for the Sussexes and makes all sorts of claims as if he has insider information. If this is British sense of humour, then it is lost on many who repeat his claims on social media as if it is the gospel truth.

Neil Sean is anything but a cheerleader for the Sussexes.

He never calls TBW "the Duchess of Sussex" but only variations on "the American ex-actress Meghan Markle", for example.

If you had listened to him, you would realise that he doesn't like them at all and makes fun of them whenever he can.

This reminds me of a situation I was once in. I was sharing a flat in Geneva with a Nigerian young woman and an African-American woman. It was a 3 bedroom flat and I was asked which bedroom I wanted. I chose the biggest one but also the costliest one. Everything was fine.

After about 1 month, during which I listened patiently to my AA's stories about her love life, she decided that she wanted to use the living room as her bedroom. I flatly refused. She was surprised because up until then, everyone in Geneva and at the WHO acquiesced to her requests. White guilt I guess. I had no reason for white guilt because my ancestors had nothing to do with Africa or colonies. A war between us ensued because she really thought that she could use her colour to make me ply to her demands. She was a huge woman who would pick up and sleep with any man who whistled at her in the streets.

Did I really want to be locked into my bedroom listening to her going at it with some pretty dubious people when I had paid for the use of a flat? She even engaged some people at the WHO who were unaware of the details to try to make me obey her. I didn't work at the WHO so I couldn't care less. It enfuriated her. I don't think she was used to not getting her way with White people.

The Nigerian woman moved out rather than be involved (she worked at the WHO). We are still friends.

White guilt only works if you have something to be guilty about. I don't. LOL

If we assume that TBW is psychotic/off-her-rocker/balmy/stark-raving-bonkers/bat-shit-crazy (and all the other words we aren't suppose to use about those with `issues') there may be a reluctance to do what we think is necessary, lest it is seen as treating someone insane `inappropriately'. Not a good look.

Meanwhile, TBW, her quisling sidekick and their nasty friends like Messica run riot.

The article in the DM says that Jessica has one full table setting of the designer's plates (I assume that would be at least a dinner plate, side plate, soup bowl and dessert bowl) but does not specify that she has the design featuring the royals. In her post, Jessica shares a plate design that does not feature the royals so the implication is that she does not. However, she has never struck me as a person who has any respect or admiration for any of the royals or the monarchy or the values and principles it represents.

Royals remember Prince Philip: Prince Harry set to appear alongside Prince Charles and Prince William to share memories of Duke of Edinburgh for new programme to air later this month

• Members of the royal family have offered personal tributes to Prince Philip

• Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers is set to air on 22 September
• Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry will all appear in the programme
Royals are set to offer their own memories of the Duke in the tribute film

This doesn't mean 6 is flying over but I wonder what memories he'll share. How his grandfather felt about Megxit/the O interview? Will TBW herself into the interview/recording?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9970221/Royal-family-pay-tribute-Prince-Philip-BBC-programme.html

On another note, wouldn't it be delicious if the TMZ article was true?

How is Harry going to appear alongside Charles and Willam when they are on different continents? Surely each will be interviewed separately? And Phillip had three other children plus six other grandchildren (but supposedly the youngest two were not interviewed).

Sorry to nit pick, but I am finding misleading and outrageous headlines particularly annoying today!

I wonder what TBW has approved for Harry's contribution. Just leave the word salad and Meghan speak out Harry, and just say that you loved and admired your grandfather, will always miss him, fall way below the standards of his lfe and the way he lived it (and probably hugely disappointed him in the last few years of his life) but hope one day you can achieve something that would make him proud.
Sandie said…
The documentary was filmed before Phillip's death, and was supposed to be to celebrate his 100th birthday?

That makes it more interesting as Harry would have done his bit before the Oprah interview?
Maneki Neko said…
@Sandie

The first two paragraphs of the article say 6 'is set to appear alongside other members of the royal family . . . for a new BBC One tribute film.

While interviews were filmed before and after Prince Philip's death in April, it is unclear where they were conducted, if royals will appear on screen together or whether interviews were filmed separately.'

6 can send a pre-recorded video with a heartfelt message,no doubt penned by wifey, so being on a different continent is irrelevant.

For interest ... a couple of tarot readers have predicted some major drama/betrayal from the Sussexes in September.

That is kind of normal behavour from them!

The report from the bullying investigation was delayed. The Sussexes probably sent threatening legal letters, and a 100-page 'submission' from TBW. Could that be the cause of the delay? Does anyone know if there is a date set for the report to be completed and given to the Queen?

The British tabloids are implying that the Sussexes attempt to meet with the Queen and have a full royal christening for Lilli at Windsor Castle are being ignored. The tabloids will always harp on it if she is treated differently and doesn't get the same royal treatment as her brother. Poor child - like her brother, her life mired in controversy and gossip from birth.

What a normal pregnancy looks like, ladies.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-9972093/Jennifer-Lawrence-pregnant-Actress-31-expecting-child-husband-Cooke-Maroney.html

I will be very surprised if there are any rumors regarding the authenticity of Jennifer Lawrence's pregnancy. The location of her baby bump, her very comfortable looking outfit & flat shoes look like the real thing to me. When you're expecting, your first concern is the health of your child, & then your own comfort. You don't parade around in skin tight dresses & 4-inch heels. Perhaps other posters here will refute this, but pretty much every pregnant woman I've known has wanted to avoid a dangerous fall, & to be comfortable.

Jennifer is also the real deal in terms of being an Oscar winning A+-list actress as well, unlike you-know-who.

FYI the 6s' Lifetime biopic has a 2.9 out of a possible 10 rating on IMDB. The 6s are flatlining in the USA. I guess that's why they're so desperate to have some sort of contact with the real royals. If the RF family gets sucked into another phony christening with another dubious infant, well, more fool them. I doubt the British public will be happy.
Just what we don't need:

The Independent
Harry and Meghan are ‘coming to the UK for Lilibet’s christening’ and there are going to be fireworks

Ali-Asghar Abedi

Thu, 9 September 2021, 6:15 pm
Part 1:

Prince Harry and his family are returning to Britain in the coming days for the christening of his newborn daughter Lilibet Diana, according to sources.

In this way, Prince Harry is sort of like lockdowns: just when you think you’ve seen the last of him, there are rumours of his return. It won’t be exactly the same as last time Harry stepped on British shores, however. This time, Meghan will be joining her husband, which would mark the first time she’s meeting her in-laws since her explosive interview with Oprah in March.

Given her lucrative Netflix deal, the in-laws could be forgiven for feeling a little nervous. What if this christening doubles up as an intelligence-gathering mission for her Netflix original series Royals: A Tale Of Some Boring White People And The Inequality They (Un)intentionally Perpetuate? Personally, however, I don’t think they need to be worried: Meghan probably won’t want to rock any more boats. She may, however, end up in another “who made the other cry” spat with Kate Middleton; presumably, once Meghan tells Lilibet and Archie that their aunt and uncle don’t have their own deals with Netflix and Spotify, the poor kiddos will be in floods of tears.

I imagine Will and Kate actually have something similar up their sleeves, though. In contrast to Harry going all-American with his US bride, the heir to the throne and his wife may end up pursuing their own, very British, media deals: Prince George could appear on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, for instance, and Princess Charlotte could become a regular panelist on the nightly press preview on GB News. And should Andrew Neil actually step down from the chairman position at GB News as rumours suggest, he could be replaced full-time by three-year-old Prince Louis. Come to think of it, having programming decisions made by a three-year old could actually improve ratings at the fledgling news station.

To defuse the well-documented tension between Harry and his family, I expect Meghan will be showing up with an assortment of thoughtful gifts. Prince Charles will be given a map of HS2, which is the perfect analogy for his ascension to the throne: it’s been talked about for a very long time, but it’s probably never going to happen. And the Queen will be gifted the Declaration of Independence, as it’s an important piece of history belonging to a country which fought to separate itself from British colonialism, and everyone knows Liz loves those kinds of trinkets.

(Continued)
Part 2:

Once he returns to the UK, Harry will be keen to show his family how busy he is in a bid to demonstrate a concept which is foreign to the royals: working. No doubt he will be keen to tell his inspirational story to members of his family so they, too, can pull themselves up by their bootstraps by accepting huge amounts of taxpayer money after being brought up in a palace and then making millions through Hollywood connections and name recognition. If a simple lad with barely an A Level to his name can do it, then I don’t know what those kids living in poverty in Blackpool are complaining about. And they say we need a benefits system!

But what does Harry’s return mean for the rest of Britain? No doubt it affects Meghan’s former friend Piers Morgan more than anyone else; he’s a sensitive soul, after all. Sources have claimed that Morgan is so irked by the trip that he plans to walk off the island and straight into the English Channel in protest, where he will be denied rescue because of Brexit: French emergency services no longer help Britons and neither do British emergency services because the Tories defunded them. Turns out the £350m per week that the Brexit campaign promised for the NHS went to a fancy new press briefing room and hairspray for Boris instead. But at least Piers gets to be the centre of attention again, which is something I think we can all agree is good for Britain.

As for actual members of the UK government, they’ll probably treat Harry the way they treat Covid: by choosing to ignore him entirely then claiming credit when he flies away.

Now I wonder who the `source' may be?

Typical snide, Indie, slant to report though.
Reading other reports, however, suggests it's the the Harkles themselves have been presenting this visit as established fact (when it is far from being so, it appears).

Whys should the Indie have rerun it now? Has HM said she'll bake the cake?

OT but kind of related: Some people have narcissistic tendencies, maybe a bit self-involved, not engaging with others, etc. I was in contact with a bona fide narcissist, and it was weird. She sort of self-confessed, crying in her 6th gin of the day, to killing her husband with a lethal overdose of morphine. He wasn't nearly at Death's Door, but he was inconveniencing her. She gave him the overdose, and watched him expire. The Hospice people alerted the authorities because this man could not get out of his bed, yet he wasn't at Death's Door. The police sent detectives, and the Medical Examiner. They wanted to search the house for the morphine pills, and were recording the "grieving" widow. She threw a fit, and stopped the search and the recording. Their payback? The death certificate was noted as "Suicide." When suicide is on the death certificate, there is no payout of life insurance. The authorities couldn't prove anything, but their antenna told them the truth. I met this woman through my garden club, and will have nothing more to do with her.

It seems to me that the story is still an invention by the Sussexes.

So why is the Independent now acting as their mouthpiece?

I seem to remember that when the Indie came onto the scene in the mid 1980s (1986), it affected a complete lack of interest in the RF, amounting to almost a refusal to print anything about them.
https://uk.yahoo.com/news/lilibet-christening-harry-meghan-return-110325760.html

`Whether the Queen will give her permission, however, remains to be seen. If not, it could be a Californian christening for Lilibet, and a much longer wait for the eighth in line to the throne to meet her royal relations.’

So if HM doesn’t accede to their demands, they’ll be able to paint her as a racist meanie?

I saw a comment from someone on social media (but did not save the link) that said that the papers can be served on Andrew via his lawyers at their offices. I have done some research, and a subpoena from a US court served on a Britsh person in the UK is meaningless anyway (have to go through the court system in the UK). So, basically, Andrew is not hiding out at Balmoral to avoid being served papers for a subpoena. Since the lawyers for Virginia Guiffre have not done this and the FBI have not done this to compel Andrew to give evidence in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial, one wonders why.

My personal opinion is that Andrew must have at least seen a bevy of young girls hanging around Epstein, every time he stayed with or met with Epstein and it was glaringly obvious why they were there. In my book, he us at least complicit by continuing the friendship and staying with Epstein. As for what he did or not do with Virginia and other girls, it is his word against theirs, and his disastrous interview showed that his truth and evidence is highly questionable. He has everything to lose by trying to defend himself. By not defending himself, he will be found guilty. The question is how big will be the payout awarded to Virginia and others who will also try their luck? Will she go through British courts to try to extract the millions she is trying to get from the BRF?

@Sandie,

The reason why the British press are insinuating Andrew is in hiding at Balmoral is because it’s in Scotland which is has different laws to England. I’m guessing the press assume court papers would state he resides in England (and not the U.K which includes Scotland) and so the court papers can only be served in England. All of which seems a little ridiculous, far fetched and reaching to me. I think Andrew is on holiday and seeing his Mother and not in hiding. 🥴

It started badly, with pain everywhere including my chest, so I knew my lungs were affected. I was sneezing a lot, so I thought it might just be a cold, until the pain set in. Pain in your feet and knees is not a symptom of a cold, so I took action. I used the medications they say don't help you. I used quinine at first with zinc. That helped a lot but I still had a bit of a fever and fatigue but I felt like my lungs were also affected again.

So, I took the ivermectin, the horse dewormer as the press calls it. One dose, and I felt much better. It is not just horse dewormer, it is also a medicine used by billions of people. If you get covid, don't take any chances. Take it as soon as possible. I think it saved me from a very bad case of covid.

People can say whatever they want about me. I just know I might have saved my own life.

So happy to hear it! If you didn't save your own life at least you shortened the course, perhaps by a considerable amount, and you did *not* get the organ damage that would result in "long COVID" and permanent disability. With the pain that you were experiencing in your lungs, you probably had severe inflammation and swelling which could interfere with oxygenation. Ivermectin is a very potent anti-inflammatory!

As I have said before, I think the Sussexes really need that royal christening in the UK for two major reasons (but I doubt that these are the two reasons they are thinking of) ...

* They don't go to church so are not part of a congregation, so how are they going to get Lilli christened in LA? Will Bishop Currey come to their aid? Even in the UK, they can only get Lilli christened in the Church of England through the Queen's influence, as the head of the church, as they do not belong to any congregation (hence they were married at Windsor Castle even though they never attended church there). But maybe I am wrong about that.

* A christening in the UK, using the royal christening robe, at an official royal chapel/church, with official photos including at least the Queen is kind of proof that Lilli is royal and in the line of succession. This is required for the Sussexes to continue trading on the only asset they have to sell ... being royal.

Isn't the Queen at Balmoral until sometime in October? I assume the Sussexes want Windsor Castle as the venue. I don't see them heading for Balmoral with entourage in tow! Besides, the Queen probably does not have room for them as family must be lining up to visit her this year, her first summer without Phillip.

re Baptism in an Anglican church - Sandie's point about what qualifies a couple to have their baby baptised is a good one but I don't think it's quite as rigid as insisting that the parents have to to be regular worshippers at their parish church - the priest has a historical obligation to everyone living in his `patch', faithful or otherwise. That stems from the incumbent once acting as the `civil servant' (that's why the Registrar's presence is not required for C of E weddings) but TBW & H would fail on the residential requirement.

I wonder if they've been in touch with Welby? Does anyone know when he's due back?

Incidentally, and `curiouser and curiouser', I there's a rather strange version of the H$M's `secret wedding' story in JW's Wikipedia entry:

Attack on the royal family

Under the system of Queen's consent any proposed legislation affecting the royal family has to be submitted for approval. This frequently leads to protracted negotiation with their solicitors. Legislation is frequently drafted to exclude the royal family from it, eliminating the delay. One instance when this happened was in 1753, when members retained the legal right to marry without witnesses at a time when it was withdrawn from everyone else.[110][111][112] The Archbishop of Canterbury, who issues licences for royal marriages from his Faculty Office, is aware of this and the licences specify in great detail the common law impediments to marriage without mentioning the statutory ones, which are irrelevant.[113] Like many couples, Harry and Meghan wanted a private ceremony, and Welby obliged them with a private but perfectly legal ceremony in the garden of Kensington Palace on Wednesday, 16 May 2018.

In their interview with Oprah Winfrey on 7 March 2021 the couple mentioned in passing that this had happened. On 8 March 2021 they affirmed that the "secret marriage" involved "a private exchange of vows". As far as the Church is concerned, these ceremonies involve serious censure on the cleric involved, because it has invested a lot of effort in stamping them out. Enquiries were directed to the Archbishop's office at Lambeth Palace, which attacked the legality of the ceremony by claiming the couple were subject to the same marriage law as everyone else (they are not, which is why law professors are unanimous that the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles could not and did not marry in a civil ceremony on Saturday, 9 April 2005, despite the same argument being rolled out on the Prince's behalf that the couple are subject to the same marriage law as everyone else, Royal Marriages Act notwithstanding).[114]

On 22 March 2021 the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex referred to "the official or legal wedding on May 19" after reconfirming they had exchanged vows the first time on May 16. They did not refer to any "official and legal wedding on May 19", or any marriage on May 19, both of which never happened. Welby maintained the position that he would not comment, but eight days later he did in an interview with an Italian newspaper. He denied the truth of the couple's statement, adding that for him to accept its truth would involve him having "committed a serious criminal offence".

Nobody seems to have picked up on this - JW should have the skids under him if this is true.

My thoughts and prayers for a continued and speedy recovery. Keep taking the zinc, Vit D , and drink tonic water with quinine. Your immune system will do the best job creating antibodies. Ivermectin is used worldwide in humans, even by our Federal government to deworm immigrants from 3rd world countries.

HCQ , a very inexpensive drug, was bashed and devalued as a life saving drug to fight Covid early on but is now used worldwide for some patients. Of course, not every person responds equally to a drug, thus the need for a variety of drugs. Seems like some in the news are now giving Ivermectin the same treatment. Both HCQ and Ivermectin have been used for decades, have FDA approval and are inexpensive. Big Pharma have a problem with that?

When you check in again ...

Thanks for posting that excerpt from Wikipedia. My head is spinning with questions.

So, there are mixed opinions as to if the marriage of Charles and Camilla was legal or not, as it was a civil ceremony followed by a church blessing.

It is possible that the private ceremony conducted by Welby in the garden (Achbishop on 24-hour standby for house calls for whatever the Sussexes asked for ... not Welby's finest hour), without witnesses, a marriage licence, and not in a public building, was indeed a valid marriage.

Yikes! Methinks the Queen needs to start issuing letter patents to clean up these messes!
Sandie said…
I was thinking that the Queen could assent to a royal christening if the Sussexes keep it private and make the trek to Balmoral. But, the chapel there is a public one, not a private royal one.

Do the BRF have any private chapels, and would the Queen let the Sussexes waltz in, take over, and bully staff, e.g. at Windsor, while she is on holiday in Scotland?

Has Eugenie had August christened yet?

@Sandie,

wouldn't a private ceremony still require witnesses? I mean it's all well and good to have a private ceremony, but without witnesses, one party can assert that a private wedding took place when it didn't, assuming that a AofC can be bribed.

Off Topic But Keeping It Royal

The reports about Guiffrie's lawyers serving Andrew with summons (via a policeman on guard duty, via lawyers in London that he has used, via his official email address) are a publicity stunt and show that Guiffrie is using lawyers that know nothing about law outside America. Andrew is not bound by the law in America nor any orders from a court in New York. Any orders for an American matter must be processed by the British courts to be valid.

PS Sarah may be a benign version of Meghan, but I find her just as annoying. All over the place to promote a book but never actually talks about the book, but has a lot to say about Diane, the Sussexes, Andrew ... Now is making some ridiculous comments about her marriage vows. Topless next to the pool, kissing one of her lovers, him then sucking her toes, in front of her very young children. I don't judge her for breaking her marriage vows but stop trying to rewrite history as Meghan does. If it quacks like a duck, stop calling it a dove!

Your suggestion that Charles and Camilla’s marriage was not legal is the first in my hearing. The difficulty for Charles was the debate over whether being divorced and remarried to a divorcee would nullify his Kingship. His second marriage is legal according to the statutes of the United Kingdom...but whether his second union is ecclesiastically approved is still a largely untested question. The last English king that sought a divorce had to invent his own religion to get it. Due to the sensitive nature of Charles’s remarriage, With the queen being the head of a church that does not condone divorce, and also out of sensitivity for the feelings of the public at seeing Diana replaced with a new princess of Wales, which is Camilla’s rightful title though she doesn’t use it—the Queen sat out the registry office ceremony and the blessing but I heard was present at the reception...In that capacity, more as a mother then as a sovereign I would imagine.

There is a vast world of difference between a proper registry wedding, with all of the witnessed and certified documents attesting to it and whatever hippy dippy private exercise MM claims took place in the garden at KP. She’s got no proof, only her word, and it’s interesting how the story of this secret pre-wedding was never mentioned at all in any form for nearly 3 years, but Somehow kept in reserve for the precise moment that she was appearing in Oprah’s interview, that entire thing weaponized against the royal family. I think Justin Welby is a prat of the highest order, But I did feel a little tiny bit sorry for him when she lobbed that grenade. Might what has happened in the garden been a rehearsal of vows? I think what likely happened, if Madam hasn’t made the entire thing up out of whole cloth, Is that she and Harry had written some personal vows, which they probably expected to be allowed to read in Saint George’s chapel In front of the Queen and an audience of billions. Welby may have agreed to hear these “promises” and say a little prayer in advance of the wedding. This would be “pre-marital counseling and support”, not a bona fide marriage ceremony. Either Meg is so deep in her fantasy world that she convinced herself that this was the “real“ wedding, or more likely she just threw well be under the bus to agitate and get more provocative attention out of this interview. This wasn’t her first rodeo after all… Harry is her third husband—And the notion that she had no real interest in a “public spectacle” it’s just beyond ludicrous. Public spectacle is her first second and third name.

Re: the garden wedding

As @Hikari hypothesized, I believe I read that one of the COE spokesmen said it must have been a rehearsal in the garden. And because she's an American, M was "confused." (Wow, we Americans are pretty stupid! Don't even know if we are getting married.) But frankly, that makes no sense in terms of what M said to O.

M claimed that in the garden when they married they recited vows they wrote themselves. Further, those vows are now framed in their bedroom (no doubt reproduced in M's "calligraphy.")

Obviously they could not use their own vows in their COE wedding, so how could reciting their own vows be a rehearsal? A rehearsal for what? And why did they need a special rehearsal? There was already a general rehearsal at the chapel. (The day the Queen was photographed in her car with a dog people claimed was Meghan's that I think looked like TQ's dog, Candy.)

I think it's all made up myself. Maybe idiot Justin dropped everything and rushed over to bless them in their garden or maybe he rushed over to explain why they could not use their own vows in a COE ceremony. (Can you imagine-- Maybe they promised each other they'd never be "lone" again.) Maybe he didn't even meet with them. Since he seems to think he can't say one way or the other, M is safe from being completely called out. At least for now.

Re: The excerpt you posted from Welby's Wikipedia page

What the heck? 😲

You then asked: " I wonder if they've been in touch with Welby? Does anyone know when he's due back?"

Noticed this in the DM from Amanda Platell this morning...

Losing faith in the Archbish.

Reassuring us church-going Christians that he's doing his bit to save the planet, the Archbishop of Canterbury reveals he has given up his diesel car and has cut back on meat.

Jolly good, but perhaps Justin Welby, fresh from a restorative six-month sabbatical, could have spent a bit more time keeping our churches open during lockdown?

Saving the planet is all well and good — but he should remember that he's in the business of saving souls.
There is something called a ` Special Licence', a kind of `dispensation' granted by the AoC. This allows marriage outside the usual rules under special circumstances.

The Clandestine Marriages Act of 1753 (aka the Hardwicke Act) was an attempt to clean up the business of secret marriages - often those carried out when one or both parties were under-age and trying to marry without parental consent - under-age heiresses being beguiled by fortune-seekers of whom Daddy disapproved. Another was that of the `Fleet Marriages' - conducted by disgraced clergy immured in the gaol of that name - these marriages were frequently bigamous in pre-divorce days.)

Poor people achieved marriage by simply lying about their age or marital status!

(Btw, this is where Gretna Green comes into the story, couples making a dash for the Scottish border to a jurisdiction where 16 was old enough to be married without parental consent, by Scottish Common Law which at that time required only a declaration in front of witnesses, no clergy. The Kirk did its best to take control - my husband's ancestors c.1818 were had up before the Kirk Session (ie Church court) for being `irregularly married'- hence the term for couples living together - `married but nae kirked')

Usually, in the CofE, the Banns are called in the parish church for 3 Sundays running, announcing a couples's intention to marry and instructing anyone who knows a good reason why they should not be allowed so to do (eg they're already married to someone else) to speak up.

Two witnesses are required for such usual marriages - Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes were able to have a church marriage by special licence with only one witness.

As I read it, the Wikipedia entry says that in order to bring in the provisions of the Act with minimal delay, members of the RF were permitted to continue marrying in private, rather than having their lawyers spend a great of time arguing their case and delaying the progress of the legislative change. This may mean that whatever happened in the garden at KP was a valid marriage but if there's no documentation who is to say? It certainly doesn't reflect well on JW.

As for Charles and Camilla, I really don't know. On the face of it, they did what the rest of us have to do when we're divorced and the local vicar won't marry us in church (some will marry you if the divorced party is judged to have been `innocent'.) We know little about the service at St G's, apart from the General Confession being said:

Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore thou those who are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

This is a prayer in the Book of Common Prayer that used to be said by every congregation at every service of Morning Prayer/ aka Matins, but the Press framed it as a big deal. Charles is a great one for the language of the BCP - in the eyes of the tabloids, this can mark one out as a religious nutter (as happened to a man who was falsely accused of murder a few years ago in Bristol.)

--------------

@Hikari - I wouldn't say Henry VIII `invented a new religion'.

He just took over Catholicism and put himself in the top office, in place of the Pope. His theology remained Catholic, although those commentators of a Reformed disposition like to push the idea that he was keen on Protestantism - he wasn't. The title `Defender of the Faith' was given him by the Pope - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defender_of_the_Faith explains.

Anglicanism began as a form or `Rome-lite Catholicism', something which many critics of traditional Anglo-Catholicism fail to understand.

-------

@Lizzie - good point about the vows - I doubt if a Special Licence allows one to jettison the nuptial liturgy, but it depends on how tightly `exchange of vows' is framed. It would doubtless be assumed that a couple seeking a private religious ceremony would want whatever the current form of words were and that it was therefore not necessary to specify the wording.

Remember, this is the woman who is reported to have wanted the ceremony conducted by the Dalai Lama.

We know that many aspects of English life have a complex logic which may be opaque to those from other countries - and to many English people as well. We do not mean to imply that those who don't understand the situation are stupid.

Thanks for your post exploring the complexities of the two marriages. For both, your explanations make sense to me.

The crazy one wanted to use her own vows for the wedding ceremony. Of course she did, as she is a controlling dominant narc. But it is not allowed, so Welby was summoned to the cottage to conduct some kind of ceremony using the marriage vows she had written.

Throughout history, strong individuals who have 'done their own thing' have discovered great things, invented great things, changed society in a major way. TBW is not such an individual and simply comes across as hopelessly deluded.

Let me quickly say I have not felt anyone here who explained various aspects of life in the UK to Americans ever implied Americans were stupid. But I did think the excuse from the COE was kind of insulting to Americans and weird as heck.

The AOC instructed M for her baptism and confirmation. I assume he also did some pre-marital counseling with H&M. You'd think that somewhere the issue of "church liturgy" would have come up versus presenting the COE as an "anything goes" institution. (Wasn't she ever shown The Book of Common Prayer, for example?) I'd also think even dim Harry would have some appreciation for the role the church plays in legal marriages in England.

So to say M was confused because she's American and thought an outdoor "rehearsal" with her own vows & no witnesses (special license aside) was the real wedding and the extravaganza at St. George's was just theater with lots of extras (AKA wedding guests) brought in for the production... I'd say that reasoning says Americans are stupid and/or M's religious instruction/pre-marital counseling was severely lacking or both.

I don't know when she requested the Dalai Lama, assuming that's true, but if she did after receiving instruction from AoC I'd say AOC is quite lacking. And if he has been more worried about what car he drives than holding church services, that also suggests he's lacking.

Reminds me of a relative's minister, hired a couple of years ago [pre-pandemic] after a long-serving minister retired. New guy doesn't want to have Christmas Eve candlelight services as are traditional in that church. They are early evening, say 7pm but he has small kids and wants to stay home with them hanging stockings and waiting for Santa. Well, ok. But don't be a minister!!! Plus, how do all those other parents in the church manage to bring their happy excited children to candlelight services? So far, Easter egg hunts haven't interfered with services on Easter Sunday but that's probably next!

@ Lizzie

Welby has come through Holy Trinity Brompton, (https://www.htb.org/) a contemporary Evangelical church which appears to have jettisoned a formal liturgy altogether.

Their services, as far as I can see on line, are pop concerts with a sermon. Charismatic, where the stress is on experiencing the Holy Spirit. The congregation/audience is sung at and preached at, no formal responses nor recitation of the Psalms, but I expect they wave their arms. `Worship songs' emphasising the individual and one's own cosy sense of Salvation, and less theological meaning than a Sunday School chorus. I never thought I’d say this but - Oh for Sankey & Moody! `An anything goes' approach.

HTB has a marriage preparation course but it doesn't seem to mention what goes on in a CofE marriage service, nor the legal aspects of it.

It all seems very elastic. Perhaps the Holy Spirit told JW that they were married in the eyes of God and that was good enough for him. Or he was clear about it to her but she always knows better.

I’m sorry you see that as an insult – it’s just that we’re used to people from other countries not instantly grasping our curious ways – no reflection on their intellect at all.
It wouldn't surprise me if the whole `private wedding' thing was devious ploy so she could see herself as getting one up on us all. There's no way she would have missed out on being the centre of attention, especially if she got the satisfaction of duping the RF & the British people into paying out for her extravaganza.

I see reports that the Archewell homepage has a black ground and (some of?) the names of those who died on that terrible day 20 years ago.

Have the H$Ms posted a selection of names or are they all there but the press aren't showing them all?

has she selected them? If so, why?

@WBBM,

I don't want to belabor the point but when the COE spokesperson said she didn't understand because she was an American, that was said nearly 3 years after the purported garden wedding. After over 3 years of M being a purported member of the COE. But maybe JW did say they were married in the garden. Who knows. He seems quite odd to me.

I do know what you mean though about cultural misunderstandings. I'm from the southern US and we have to explain alot too. Or try to. For example, "well, bless her heart" can be said with true honest affection or it can mean something else entirely. It's all in the tone and subtle eye movements.

@WBBM and @lizzie

Thanks for the great comments and discussion about the complexities around the supposed secret wedding. The mix of Welby and TBW, with a dash of hapless Harry, was bound to stir up a storm and cross lines.
@Lizzie - Well, we all know that it doesn't matter what anyone says to TBW, she hears what she wants to hear.

Could she have thought that a CofE wedding was like one in Las Vegas, for instance? I gather that, in Vegas, as long as the paperwork is in order & necessary signatures are witnessed, what happens in the actual ceremony doesn't affect the validity of such a marriage?

I have no idea about how it works in other states but wonder if in TBW's mind the AoC might as well have been an Elvis impersonator? I doubt if the ritual of either her Jewish wedding or that of her supposed first marriage (?Catholic?) meant anything either.

A new game for us - which Elvis number could be their theme tune? Wooden Heart? Jailhouse Rock? Heartbreak Hotel?
Come to think of it, in my view Welby might as well be an Elvis impersonator.

Garden Wedding-

I think the ‘Garden Wedding’ was not a “legal” wedding but a “Im a SoCal free-spirt beachie-non/pan-religious girl and an American Wannabe who can do what we want be cause it’s “Our Truth and Our Story” kind of wedding.
In other words it wasn’t “legally legal” wedding but a all in their deluded (romantic?) self-absorbed minds . they said self written vows , called in the sycophant, googlie eyed, entranced by TBW obvvious charms, JW to bless their private TBW written Truth Vows.

it’s not legal. Sucker JW got used and thrown under O’s bus by the self-absorbed, deluded duo.

I don't think the 3 days before wedding happened at all. She was just running at the mouth.

Possibly they were married earlier, much earlier. Like Botswana. Or the January before when she was faking a pregnancy to keep H from pulling out of the wedding.

You asked if TBW could have thought that a CofE wedding was like one in Las Vegas. If so it shows her crass ignorance - we know that - and shows that she took no interest in the ceremony. Perhaps it was just dressing up for the day and playing princess with a tiara. Who knows.
Your choice of Elvis theme tunes is very good. May I suggest Suspicious Minds, A Little Less Conversation (Almost in Love), Don't Be Cruel, Return to Sender (for hubby).

No Friday/Saturday singalong 🎤🎵? It's difficult to find something apt to fit those two.
@Maneki Neko - you may recall that, some time ago, I suggested they resembled the Duke & Duchess of Plaza Toro from the Gondoliers. It seems even more apt in the light of what we know now, especially as the Duke of P-T subsequently set himself up as a Limited Company:

In enterprise of martial kind,
When there was any fighting,
He led his regiment from behind
(He found it less exciting).
But when away his regiment ran,
His place was at the fore, O-
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated
Nobleman,

The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

In the first and foremost flight, ha, ha!
You always found that knight, ha, ha!
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated
Nobleman,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When, to evade Destruction's hand,
To hide they all proceeded,
No soldier in that gallant band
Hid half as well as he did.
He lay concealed throughout the war,
And so preserved his gore, O!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected
Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

In every doughty deed, ha, ha!
He always took the lead, ha, ha!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected
Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When told that they would all be shot
Unless they left the service,
That hero hesitated not,
So marvellous his nerve is.
He sent his resignation in,
The first of all his corps, O!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going
Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

To men of grosser clay, ha, ha!
He always showed the way, ha, ha!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going
Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

RECITATIVE—DUKE.

To help unhappy commoners, and add to their enjoyment,
Affords a man of noble rank congenial employment;
Of our attempts we offer you examples illustrative:
The work is light, and, I may add, it's most remunerative.

DUET—DUKE and DUCHESS.

DUKE.
Small titles and orders
For Mayors and Recorders
I get—and they're highly delighted—

DUCH.
They're highly delighted!

DUKE.
M.P.'s baronetted,
Sham Colonels gazetted,
And second-rate Aldermen knighted—

DUCH.
Yes, Aldermen knighted.

DUKE.
Foundation-stone laying
I find very paying:

It adds a large sum to my makings—

DUCH.
Large sums to his makings.

DUKE.
At charity dinners
The best of speech-spinners,
I get ten per cent on the takings—

DUCH.
One-tenth of the takings.

DUCH.
I present any lady
Whose conduct is shady
Or smacking of doubtful propriety—

DUKE.
Doubtful propriety.

DUCH.
When Virtue would quash her,
I take and whitewash her,
And launch her in first-rate society—

DUKE.
First-rate society!

DUCH.
I recommend acres
Of clumsy dressmakers—
Their fit and their finishing touches—

DUKE.
Their finishing touches.

DUCH.
A sum in addition
They pay for permission
To say that they make for the Duchess—

DUKE.
They make for the Duchess!

DUKE.
Those pressing prevailers,
The ready-made tailors,
Quote me as their great double-barrel—

DUCH.
Their great double-barrel—

DUKE.
I allow them to do so,
Though Robinson Crusoe
Would jib at their wearing apparel—

DUCH.
Such wearing apparel!

DUKE.
I sit, by selection,
Upon the direction
Of several Companies bubble—

DUCH.
All Companies bubble!

DUKE.
As soon as they're floated
I'm freely bank-noted—
I'm pretty well paid for my trouble—

DUCH.
He's paid for his trouble!

DUCH.
At middle-class party
I play at ecarte—
And I'm by no means a beginner—

DUKE (significantly).
She's not a beginner.

DUCH.
To one of my station
The remuneration—
Five guineas a night and my dinner—

DUKE.
And wine with her dinner.

DUCH.
I write letters blatant
On medicines patent—
And use any other you mustn't—

DUKE.
Believe me, you mustn't—

DUCH.
And vow my complexion
Derives its perfection
From somebody's soap—which it doesn't—

DUKE.
(significantly).
It certainly doesn't!

DUKE.
We're ready as witness
To any one's fitness
To fill any place or preferment—

DUCH.
A place or preferment.

DUCH.
We're often in waiting
At junket or feting,
And sometimes attend an interment—

DUKE.
We enjoy an interment.

BOTH.
In short, if you'd kindle
The spark of a swindle,
Lure simpletons into your clutches—
Yes; into your clutches.

Or hoodwink a debtor,
You cannot do better

DUCH.
Than trot out a Duke or a Duchess—

DUKE.
A Duke or a Duchess!

I used to belong to Soho house when I had a comped membership and attended a fair amount of fashion week events back in the day. I’m a nobody, there are many like us in major cities like New York who are her age who knows exactly the type she is and have encountered her. I think that’s the pretension about her that everyone in fashion / hwood / media picks up on about her and makes her so eye rollingly unlikable, because she’s an ordinary industry hustler that got the chance of a lifetime and blew it in half a year thinking that the marriage made her Beyonce by default.
In fact, I did encounter her. About 10 years ago I attended a fashion week party for a retail brand that was super popular back then. MM was there. She wasn’t noticeable at all and I would not be telling you this story if not for this part. The founder Ceo, who has now passed, was a much older married gentleman. His wife was there. They are mostly chatting with other company leaders with some random hanger ons. MM is one of them. In full view of everyone, MM sits on his lap giggling. In front of his wife. Everyone is shocked and now looking at them and saying, wtf? So she was the “wtf” hussy of the night - every party has the mess, and she was it! I had no idea who she was, until a friend I attended the party with texted me when the engagement announced and said that it was MM that night. We have side eyed this whole mess ever since.
So, if even I have that story about her, how many more others exist out there? There were at least 200 ppl there that night. And many many other fashion events and parties that she attended, messily. Or how many others in Hollywood she thirstily approached asides from the ones that talked about it (Wendy W or Reese). It looks like the messiness only continued on a world stage and keeps getting messier!

This may have been discussed earlier in their relationship. I hope Tom Bower is looking into how Megsy acted at other big name fashion show after-parties and reveals all.😃

i read both parts of Glamours TBW fashion week extraganza articles and noticed one of her Fashion Week benefactors was Marquesa, which is Harvey Weinstiens (ex) wifes company that he used to promote for her. He’d have/require his ‘actresses’ to wear dresses from her line inorder to ptomoe her fashion house.
TBW mentions trying to get a job lined up during the ‘Suits’ hiatus…. and hasn’t it been hinted that Harvey had TBW before JH? thats how Hollyweird works… actresses and actors often engage in extra curricular activities in order to get a leg up on the competition for acting roles. Quid pro quo

@Sandie,

The issue with the story in that link is that we are no longer at the turn of the 20th century. Things have changed.

I don't judge my life according to how people in society treated my predecessors. Even my own ancestors. I judge my own interactions with people based on today's standards, not yesterday's. I don't hold a grudge that my grandfather, a poor man, was treated poorly and made to fight in wars that he had nothing to gain from.

I wish that people would stop putting themselves in little boxes, dictated by their own sexual preferences or colour of their skin. I remember how Perez Hilton was shocked when his readers told him to stop defining himself as a homosexual first but rather by some other criteria - human being, father, etc and that homosexual was just incidental.

TBW and people of her woke ilk do the same thing. But we judge you by what you do, not by what shade of makeup foundation you use.
Maneki Neko said…
@Girl with a Hat

Very well said, I couldn't agree more. TBW's story has nothing to do with Alain LeRoy Locke's. I suppose it suits him to paint TBW as a victim because he is black himself (I looked him up) so feels he has to 'defend' her. She is the architect of her own downfall.
Teasmade said…
@Girl with a Hat, Maneki

Agree as well. Not sure what this academic gobbledegook was doing in the local Montecito paper (although while trying to get the flavor of the rest of the publication, I ran across an article about the birth of an amur leopard at the Santa Barbara zoo, squee! https://www.montecitojournal.net/2021/08/24/a-tiny-bundle-of-joy-amur-leopard-born-at-the-zoo/) but I am continually amazed at the [admittedly small number of] black people who defend and support TBW.

All of us on here know that she has rejected her partial race and only claims it when playing that card is a convenient weapon. No need to regurgitate the use of Caucasian on her resume, her whites-only dating history, etc.

Wouldn't that be seen as a betrayal? Posters on Lipstick Alley seems to think so.
Girl with a Hat said…
@Teasmade,

A lot of minority groups close ranks around any one of their members who is suspected or found guilty of anything.

This doesn't just hold for African-Americans, but also for Jews, Italians, you name it.

It explains why some of the most incompetent and corrupt politicians in the US keep getting re-elected. No need to mention any names, I'm sure you get my point.

I have some Jewish friends and I am amazed at the shit they pull on each other. I wouldn't stay friends with people who did that sort of thing to me. But, they seem to find it normal because they are a small group of people. They run into problems because they think that others outside their community will also be as accepting, which isn't the case.

With African-Americans, you also get the white guilt side of things.

I noticed a couple of things about the Montecito Journal:

It does not have a large readership ... circulation figures of about 12 000; 1.5 k Facebook followers.

The editor, Gwyn Lurie, sounds very woke, almost like a clone of Meghan! She calls herself CEO and chief editor? She has a Giving List, where rich folk can show off their philanthropic credentials.

Lots of directors:

https://www.montecitojournal.net/contact-us/

That editorial she wrote about TBW comes across as hastily climbing onto the PC bandwagon of wokeness from a position of privilege, before all the lies in the Oprah interview were exposed.

Of course, philanthropy is a big focus of Gqy and the Journal, but I cannot find the Harkles in that section.

https://www.montecitojournal.net/topics/society/philanthropy/

"It is said that Santa Barbara is home to more nonprofits per capita than any other county in the country. After writing about them for 30 years, I believe it. All the executive directors met at Chomp on the Rocks restaurant to celebrate the beginning of their fiscal year and chat about their business.

Being given away were copies of The Giving List, which is published by the Montecito Journal Media Group. It lists 52 of our local organizations, highlighting what their missions are with photos. In the back, all the nonprofits are listed in a telephone book style. As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

I am surprised that TBW has not graced this group with her royal presence, but perhaps it is too small for her ambitions.

By the way, I have always found a list of non-profits very useful ... I want to help, so who can I help and how. It just disturbs me that it is called 'The Giving List'.

Scandal swirling around Prince Charles (pampered prince exchanging favours for big donations to worthy causes) and Prince Andrew (pampered prince with a history of dodgy friends and dodgy business dealings, and co-habiting with an ex-wife who won't shut up).

Throughout history, royalty has attracted gossip, scandals, the bite of satirists, threats from an angry mob, and have worn really fabulous jewellery (not the itty bitty woke stuff TBW favours). The Cambridges come across as quite bland (although Catherine really does the jewellery part very well) and I wonder if they show a future of a monarchy fading away into ordinariness!
Well, Hilary Mantel has treated us to her opinion:

Just seems like cheating. "Not fair," as children would say, to get the benefit of both worlds.
@WBBM

Re Hilary Mantel has treated us to her opinion…

I really don’t think her opinion matters, seeing she’s anti monarchist and anti British. 🧐😒Perhaps she should think about returning her Damehood or is she going to be another Megsy and be a hypocrite etc. 😣
@Raspberry Ruffle

That's a very good point about her receiving high honour - not sufficiently ashamed of Britain to refuse or return it. With any luck, she'll get her Irish citizenship, go to Ireland, then leave us alone.

The irony - I've heard she lives in Budleigh Salterton, favoured retirement spot for senior military & naval officers, plus diplomats.Surely it should have been clear to her that it wasn't the best place for her, given her views? The Damehood might have given her street-cred at first but I doubt it lasted long, though it's handy to attract the punters for book festivals.

If its populated with mostly reality stars, that in itself is kinda tacky. And Anna Wintours days of being top dog of fashion are coming to a close.

Shes wasnt woke thru the years, has overlooked or participated in the poor treatment of designers, staff, models, etc. Choice of models over the years was limited to one look and promoted skinny models/body negativity. Shes a product if her time which is over... now she could be seen as a greedy capitilistic dinosaur who promoted the eco unfriendly world of disposable fast fashion, which resulted in 3rd world sweat
Shops and landfills full of out of date clothes. She was the top dog and could have chosen not to contract with the pervy photographers and agents that abused models.. but she didnt.
The magazine print world is coming to a close, decreased subscriptions, sales, printings. And anna will probably retire soon.

Girl with a Hat said…
@JHanoi,

part of the reason that the print magazine world is coming to a close is that my latest copy of Vogue or Elle looks like a copy of Ebony magazine. Nothing negative to say about Ebony but if I wanted a copy of Ebony, I would have bought a copy of Ebony. They are driving away their usual readership. I can get behind diversity, but it's not diverse when all models, authors, editors, photographers, etc come from the same group.

I also saw a recent issue of Elle dedicated to transvestites. That's going to attract a big readership / snark

Off Topic Warning

IMO, racial prejudice becomes trapped in a mobus strip. To eliminate prejudice, and the resultant inequality between races, black people are favoured (affirmative action, black economic empowerment, quotas ...), which reinforces racial profiling instead of eliminating it. At the extreme, black people then end up failing and reinforcing the stereotype of inferiority.

An intuitive tarot reader and a psychic on YouTube have predicted a third child for the dastardly duo. I am sceptical about these claims. However, I can see her retreating into motherhood to escape the humiliation of failure to conquer the world, but is she really going to surrender to being chubby for the rest of her life and seeking attention through a brood of children? They seem to have a house large enough to accommodate a large brood ... all those bedrooms and bathrooms!

I agree with what you said. It boggles my mind the life she/they discarded so quickly. You are correct in saying that she is out of place in polite society. There are numerous occasions where she could not behave. Sticking her tongue during the Christmas walk before they were married was shocking behavior to me. How undignified! Being caught on camera uttering an expletive in the carriage ride after their wedding is another example. Not making it through more than a half hour at Charles’birthday garden party is another example. Consistently pushing ahead of Harry is another. I keep saying thinking about the person who said, “She is repugnant” on the foreign trip. Is she THAT immature and so full of herself that she can’t moderate her behavior to suit the occasion?
As for acting sexy, or suggestive, she is 40 — beyond the age of playing the sexpot role in most instances. At a certain age, it comes off as pathetic.
Girl with a Hat said…
@Design Doctor,

And that's what we see of her behaviour. Imagine what she says to people if she cannot even control herself not to push ahead of the Queen!

I heard a snippet of her smalltalk in a video, where she was making it all about herself. People were talking about the weather and she went on about how cold it was in Toronto. Whereas, the Queen always asks people about themselves. Her first question is always "And what do YOU do?"
Fifi LaRue said…
@DesignDoctor: She's delusional to the point of mental illness. She's probably achieved 5 - 10% of her delusional schemes. The remainder have all gone down the drain.

I think she would try playing sexy if she came into contact with any man who had power/money/status, and she was gonna go for the hustle, if it could be a step up. That's what she knows, what she does best, what's worked for her in the past. She doesn't change, except to get worse. As her father said, he doesn't know who she's become.

As for The Met Gala, Wintour is aiming for what's popular, and TBW is nowhere near popular.

Bingo.

I think she was exceedingly uncomfortable with the BRF. In her mind: I'm uncomfortable = they hate me = they're racist.

No wonder she always wanted to glom onto H and paw him. That way she wasn't required to make conversation. No one wants to attempt polite conversation with the barmaid whilst she paws the nearest man. Mostly they think eeww, and move on.

I agree that Meghan actually finds socialising difficult, unless she is with someone who she knows, and she uses that person as a security blanket. Pre-Harry she would use flirting as a cover for her awkwardness. Post-Harry she used her position to dominate, and get away with rudeness. At last, she was in complete control of every situation, and she really enjoyed that position of power! Her problem is that she has no interest in other people, other than what they can do for her.

I wonder if he has got to the stage where he realizes that the woman he married is not the woman he thought she was. Even if he has, the marriage may not unravel as these are not normal people. He will stick with her, support her, cover up for her, defend her, as he believes his father should have done with his mother ... then she would not have died. She will only leave him if she can be financially hugely successful on her own (she can't) or if she hooks another man who can support her in her expensive lifestyle (she is too toxic? that ship has sailed?). But, either of them could suddenly change/have a life-changing revealation and break the toxic bond. That would be interesting.

She did that in Australia. So there would be a nice shot of just her with the Opera House behind her? I think she does that so the photo is easily cropped to just be her.

If she can't do that, then she's smack dab in the middle of the front row.

Maybe it's the other way around....if she can't be the star in the middle then she stands off to the side.

In Australia the photo wasn't about her in any way; she was just someone to be tolerated. The other male wasn't paying any attention to her. No opportunity to sex it up with him = no narc fuel for her. So off to the side she stands, trying to get attention that way.

Re the book sales. If true, and I suspect it is, it serves them right if they’ve incurred huge losses. 😂Their fault for buying into absolute stupidity in believing Maggot had any discernible talent of any kind….let alone writing a children’s book which takes true creative talent. 🤨
Two thoughts from yesterday-morning's sermon:

- `Many people want love and power but nobody can have both.'

- `Anger often conceals anxiety'

I thought immediately of #6 & TBW.

Changed him into scum like you

Thanks, @Magatha 😆. I didn't mean to put you under pressure! I'll have that tune in my head the whole day now!
Unfortunately it's been more than 3 long years since she splayed her feet - I'd say something else but wish to preserve an air of decorum on this blog 😄

Any more whispers about the Christening?

I find it difficult to believe that H would risk bringing their `children' here - lest only one of the `family' was permitted to return to the States.

She-who-has-more-faces-than-the-Palace-of-Westminster-Clock would surely have the brass neck to come but would she take the risk of `her children's right to privacy' being threatened?
@MsDeb52

Thanks for Harry Markle alert.

I think we could do with a `Show Us You Care About Us Because We Care About Our Constitutional Monarchy' headline.

Neil Sean says that the book that is being written by Tom Bower about the 6's is probably going to be released on the same day than the ghost written memoir of the ginger rat.

Can anyone list any true talent she possesses besides an active imagination to spin yarns about her “experiences” or trapping unsuspecting men?

That article is about the 10th article/blurb with Hilary Mandel bad-mouthing the royal family. She does go on and on. I find her personally obnoxious, but have loved every one of her books, especially the Wolf Hall trilogy.

Continuing with the social awkwardness...TBW only knows flirting as social interaction. She flirted with Charles, flirted with the minister who performed the wedding (goo goo eyes to the max), and I'm guessing but probably right on, that she flirted to the extreme with David Foster. That relationship between the Fosters and 6+ seem to have had a short shelf life, and is over and out. She did the Basic Instinct thing with Alexis O'Hanian (all the world saw that one.) At one time, sex was TBW's super power. It got her married to a royal, far, far, far above her station in life.

Continuing with this line of thought, I'm with Nutty who surmised there might be video of a dom/sub thing with the 6s, and that might explain how the control is working.
@Fifi La Rue

It's certainly a possibility that she's blackmailing him, having set up a totally nauseating scenario, perhaps in cahoots with Markus. Does Markus know where the bodies are buried and which skeleton is in which cupboard?

Apologies if this has previously been mentioned - read an article that People magazine is promoting Harry and Meghan and their bid for "visibility". Appears to be either a special edition or devoted issue. I do not read "Celebitchy" any more, but the author of the article was Lainey. Very sycophantic.

Additionally, it appears that Meghan did not receive the coveted invitation to the Met Gala. But, then again, it was all about influences- something that she is not.
Fifi LaRue said…
@MsDeb: remember that those features in People are bought and paid for. If the Harkles are buying a complete People edition, that's gonna blow a major hole in 6's inheritance. A cover story costs $387,000 as noted by someone in the know some time back.

Not sure who was at The Met Gala, but it seems JLo and Affleck were there.

The 6s really are persona non grata...

@WBBM: Nutty's brought up that possibility, re: blackmailing. It's certainly a possibility. She's vile and evil enough to do that.
Fifi LaRue said…
Just looked at The Met Gala. The 6's "pals" didn't snag them an invite to the gala. Also, no designer wanted to dress the 6s.
If a designer had demanded to dress TBW and hubby, it would have happened.

TBW and hubby are not influencers, and never have, and never will be.
I have to smile - a gorgeous 18yr-old, with a couple of good A-levels who is also brilliant at something else, has has moved into the position that TBW would give her (false) eye teeth for:

@Wild Boar OT

Yes, Emma Raducanu is brilliant and gorgeous. She also speaks Mandarin. No way could TBW have moved into her position. The irony is that had she stayed in the UK instead of decamping to Canada and the US, she could have achieved so much more. This would have meant a different attitude and behaviour, though.
-------------

In other news, H and Jill Boden are praising each other. That's one way to stay for the 6s to stay in the news - I was going to write relevant but no, they're not.

Just some thoughts ...

In a way, the entire Harkle debacle can be seen as some kind of opportunity to learn some hard life lessons for Harry. He is essentially cut off from family, friends, country, public funding and a clear path in life guided by employees who are committed to values and principles rather than money. Now, his family are TBW, the mother-in-law and two children, none of whom can give him what he has lost from essentially cutting himself off from his birth family. His new friends share no history with him, so that gives TBW full control of his story. He has to earn his money, and a lot of it, but has no talents and a shredded reputation.

They still have a few rabid supporters, like Scobie, pushing a narrative of hyperbole and nastiness about the family, country and life he shunned. But, when the outraged response, and the amusement that has emerged in response to them, dissipates in boredom, they will fade into has-been fillers when celebrities are required but the budget is not enough to hire more than Z-listers.

But, there is always the chance that the marriage will implode, Harry will return to the UK with the children, and they will live in some hidden corner of a royal estate. Perhaps he will get a job on such an estate. He once said his ideal job would have been a game ranger in Africa, so perhaps he will have to make do with being gamekeeper at Balmoral!

Perhaps TBW will find true love (psychics still see her in love with another man, as early as by the end of the year if not already) and settle with being a wife and terrorising the local community by dominating every community committee!

Did anyone wach the programme with Jill Biden? Did it achieve anything other than a platform to stroke each other's egos? I saw one clip showing Joe walking with her to the podium, doing his usual inappropriate touchy feely stuff with a youngster, and then wandering off as if he had forgotten why he was there.

Anything concrete achieved to actually help veterans who might need funding for programmes?

Kind of off topic and yet a wry comment which could also be said about 6/6w

The top comment about AOC's Tax the Rich dress (DM) is about how (politicians) are believing themselves to celebrities not public servants while Armando Diega retorts with a comment about how the celebrities are believing themselves to be politicians as they tell the public and politicians how things should be run.

not trying to get into politics (sorry) but there is something amusing to me about this spin on behaviors and add in the didn't get an invite but this is what they do too

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...

The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
