Warm Up for the Games

Let the Games Begin - with Netflix in tow.

I'm trying to think of how or what exactly can be shot and shown to the world?

When people sent in their applications, was the photography release for Netflix included? I can image there was something of a release - because the organization wants/needs publicity spread far and wide so they expect photos printed in papers and hopefully some scenes in the home country tv broadcasts.  But did it extend to Netflix level access? Will there be signs about a release as the audience walks into any event (turn back if you don't want to accept the release).  That may put some families in a bind - they would want to support their family member but maybe they also don't want to be part of the whole Netflix possibility for some personal reason like they don't have Netflix and wouldn't be able to see if they were included?  Or they don't want to be photographed?

I don't know.  Maybe the planners already thought of it so it's done and dusted but no media has thought about asking.  Or, may be not?

What I do know is that BLG made an interesting point about how pairing the good deed/action as a Royal with an opportunity to publicize it via some monetization "... a conflict of interest."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qucYKM2HkY  (start at about 5:08 for the lead up to specific point).

So H and M might/might not still be considered Royal Royal but Royal with some limitations but if he still is pushing for needed to be classified as a person who still needs the protection offered to the British Royal Family and he wins, then ... he still would be Royal enough for the monetization to be a conflict of interest for this.  And for everything they have been building up to create an empire money-making machine so far.  "It's all about the optics." (especially if you are aiming for a UN position or a political run or local humanitarian).

Not a clue about the surprise and not holding my breath waiting for it either.

Which leads up to the: is he safer in the Netherlands than in the UK.

I was planning on that as the next post but the DM beat me to it.  But let me add some other thoughts.

This will be a concentrated gathering of people who did a lot of the same things as H did in the countries he was in.  So, I agree with Ken that it could have the potential for increased risks.  Or not because everyone is looking/paying attention because they don't want something to happen.

Not just numbers of others who could be hurt as well but budgets.  It would certainly be a cheaper cost (ticket to the Netherlands from the UK or maybe they are already living in the Netherlands/EU), easier to enter country from nearby, where there is great public transportation, easy access to bikes/mopeds,  hostels compared to fly to the USA, pass customs, rent a car and hang around in a very expensive city waiting for an opportunity without being obviously not a resident of the city.

But if "something" happens (like the alleged event after the Diana statue dedication or worse), does that mean he is really a full blown target for the rest of his life?

But what about the vaunted private security that he would have in tow?  Well, according to google, they won't be allowed to carry guns in the Netherlands in the same way they are not allowed to carry guns in the UK.

To me, that's a kind of problem in logic about how to think about safe/unsafe places to visit.  But I am not their travel advisor.

But I don't think I'm wrong about what happens if he does get the protected person status - just so he has the potential to feel safe about visiting his grandmother.  My impression is that it can be immediately applied universally to all other countries.  So he can ask for it and would get it in the USA even if he never returns to the UK for the rest of his life.

Let the games begin.  Invictus.  Legal. Netflix.  Surprises.  Should be interesting.  Popcorn anyone?

I had to laugh at this article! She really struck gold when she hustled her way into a Prince's life, because without the royal connection, the dastardly duo are not even successful as influencers! Her only connection with Hollywood is her father and ex-husband!

... 'even though FF had the actual principals as sources.'

There's the rub, can we trust 'the actual principals' or should we trust the 120 people, 'many of whom have been intimately involved with the senior royals and their households during the turbulent years since Diana died'? All these people can't be all wrong and remember, 'the actual principals' told their truth.

sandie. i agree. it will be a delicious read and gooey. but 500 pages. geez i can barely get through a magazine at night before i’m asleep.

well expect drama to continue through June. if he was dressed down or had something stripped away guarantee a ruckus will happen. i don’t believe they will be at the balcony for the jubilee and i am pretty sure she won’t be there at all. maybe not him even. perhaps she will launch her podcast. seriously us nutties could have had at least 3 months of daily podcasts in the. age by now. girl needs a different work ethic

saw the adorable prince louis pics today. someone is prob going nuts in california.

did love the BLG on the Harry Today interview. some prepped things in there but his wild flailing arms were telling a different story. he was certainly no a happy man nor at peace. gonna be a long summer

@Rebecca: Thank you for copying and pasting the review.

Nutty was right a long time ago; Mrs. Dollar could have eclipsed everyone in the RF long ago if she had been smart enough to have had a television show focused on travel in the UK. A new show every month highlighting interesting towns, people, and places. England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales. She could have milked that for years. That was her golden opportunity, and she missed it.
Fifi LaRue said…
Contrary to what Lady C said, I believe Mr. Dollar had something(s) important taken away at the 15 minute meeting.

With regards to jealousy..

Don't know how many Nutties have experienced it first hand.. but interesting to find out.

I am not one of those people who suffer with jealousy of others. I am quite happy with my life.
I have been on the receiving end of a very jealous elder sister.. hard work dealing with them.
I finally, after years of abuse, paranoia etc, cut off all contact.

It really isn't worth the hassle.

If H is jealous of William then the only thing William can do is wipe him of his life... it never gets better.
Jealousy eats them up inside, it's a disease. I pity people who suffer from it.

What if it is all 'drama' for Netflix. Afterall why would it want a straight-laced show of the wife and Harry just going about smiling and conquering.

Netflix employs some pretty underhand PR tactics to push its documentaries. I remember there was an uncomfortable proximity to tennis player Naomi Osaka saying she won't give after match interviews because of how stressful they feel to her, the surrounding sharp rise in news buzz about her and mental health of sportspersons, and the subsequent release of her Netflix documentary.

Netfix discovered how much online/offline conversations and hashtag campaigns can help viewing numbers when in the early days it made a splash with Making a Murderer.

So then when it has two otherwise dullards on its hand and has a product to release why not create, nudge the dramatics. Not all watching will remember coaxed and rehearsed hugs at Invictus or sly tactics to undermine the people and the institution that together make the BRF. Bulk of their 'royal innings' will come from the duo reacting on camera to news - here we see the wife dissolving into tears at her persecution over her outfits, here we see Harry rejoicing at tickets being bought for the Netherlands through Travlyst.

After months of not being in direct conversation with the BRF, suddenly it's all yes balcony, no balcony. Shots of Harry looking downcast and the wife comforting him at Invictus - need to watch out for the narration that will accompany those shots. The highs and lows, the trials and tribulations make for a narration.

Whoever called for the meeting with the Queen, it is what made news. That they couldn't be on camera when meeting the Queen will be shown to mean the exclusivity and power of such a senior royals only meeting. Theories and suppositions of what was discussed, offered, negotiated in the meeting have gripped all, and the balcony talk has whipped intense emotions. How very perfect for Netflix.

I could be completely wrong.

The wife is very conscious of the camera and a curated narrative, but, I feel, so is Harry now. Both are very aware of how situations, gestures, sweet/silent nods are discussed. It's like they watch themselves continuously through a camera lens - somebody else's lens. They'd be up for any and all manipulations.

Harry is envious of his brother.

This is the most obvious characteristic of a narcissist.

I think that most people attribute Harry's jealousy because of their different paths in life, which were dictated at birth.

However, even in a normal family, Harry would have been jealous of anything William accomplished be it having a loving wife, blonde hair instead of ginger, more success in school, etc. When envy is eating at you like that, you need to find an outlet for it, and any excuse is good enough to lash out at your scapegoat. Hairy feels inferior to his brother, but it's not just because of the Line of Succession and that's the real source of his frustration. But that's Hairy's problem, not William's. There are billions of people who are in various positions of subordination in the world, and most learn to deal with it and enjoy their lives. For example, are we going to get all upset when one's sibling gets a promotion at work and one doesn't?

I am just surprised that the BRF managed to hide Harry's odious and very damaged personality for so long. I think also that they are somewhat used to it by now, whereas the public is just discovering his real self.

Thank you. All of the reviews seem to offer some different snippets from the book. The NY Post’s includes the story of Harry kicking in a window at Eaton over an argument about a girl. He is described as being a kind of IED while at school (and before and after the Army).

In a moment of weakness (after reading the Post’s take on it) I admit to ordering the book on Amazon Prime. I figure I can read the bits that are most interesting to me and then donate it to the library.

Although I agree that Mrs. Dollar threw away what could have been an excellent opportunity for a long lasting run on TV with a travel around Britain show, you are forgetting about the lack of knowledge and interest in Britain AND that she would have to be secondary to the sights/sites she was visiting. Not in the personality profile to be second to anything or anyone. Plus whenever I think about her on TV talking, I think of the cringe worthy interview with Craig Ferguson which was Uber fake!

Remember Giles Coren? The one who tweeted from Amsterdam about 'the affair' William was having with Rose, which was immediately pounced upon and spread by Canadian connections of you know who, despite the time difference?

Well, here he is being his usual bitchy self, but with the spotlight on a hapless prince and his trashy grandiose wife ...

What would the Queen do without Harry?
It doesn’t bear thinking about what horrors and indignities would befall Her Majesty without her grandson’s protection

Giles Coren
Friday April 22 2022, 5.00pm BST, The Times

I don’t know why everyone is so down on Prince Harry. Of course he had to check that the Queen is “protected” and “has the right people around her” on his whirlwind visit to Britain last week. If he doesn’t check up on her once every couple of years, then who is going to? I’ve seen those public information films about looking in on the elderly: if Harry doesn’t put his head round the door once in a while, Her Majesty could be left undiscovered, lying dead on the floor, in front of a cold bar heater, half-eaten by her corgis, for months.

And, of course, if you read between the lines, you can see that Harry is also very keen to protect the Queen from herself. Capricious and quixotic old thing that she is, she could easily, if left unattended, end up marrying a gold-digger, falling out with her family, making a massive tit of herself on the world stage and giving up her royal titles for a better life in America. I’m just thankful he got there in the nick of time. If you think what an absolute Horlicks the Queen made of her first 70 years on the throne, without Harry’s biannual check-ups to depend on, it’s a miracle she wasn’t deposed or usurped or otherwise brutally dethroned.

And as for having “the right people round her”, nobody knows better than Harry how important it is to have the right people around you. Whether it’s drunk Etonians in SS uniforms, naked chicks in a Los Angeles swimming pool or Oprah Winfrey and her ravening production hordes, one is simply nothing without the right people around one...

Another tidbit from a review of Brown’s book by Camilla Tominey of the Telegraph:

Contrary to his media caricature as borderline-alcoholic trailer trash, Thomas Markle snr, who Brown has interviewed for the book and refers to as “Tom”, cannot fail to elicit sympathy, ghosted by the daughter he says he bankrupted himself to send to private school. Described by colleagues as “professional”, “kind”, “totally dependable”, “trustworthy” and with “a big heart”, the former Hollywood lighting director calls Harry “the snottiest man I’ve ever heard in my life”, having been berated by the prince over the phone while he was in his hospital bed, recovering from a heart attack.

Harry certainly won’t be happy with his portrayal, which certainly seems to confirm all the worst things we’ve heard about him since Megxit. Cressida Bonas made a very wise decision to end her relationship with him.

@D1: Jealousy. It's one expression of borderline personality disorder. I know. I've got a sibling with it, passed down from parents. The sibling was jealous of everything about me. The BPD person will try to get "revenge" by destroying or stealing things from the person they are jealous of. Diana appeared to have BPD, there are four types. Twat might have it, too.
Fifi LaRue said…
@DesignDoctor: You are correct. She didn't have any interest in her new home country. Also, there is a basic lack of talent, initiative, interest in others, curiosity, wonder, and excitement about a new life and all its possibilities. Plus, she's unpleasant to watch, and listen to. She was interested only in making lots of money. Hence, the throwing spaghetti at the wall, and seeing what sticks. The Craig Ferguson interview: all I saw were her arms flailing all over the place the entire time. She must have been hopped up on something. She is/was unable to be on television without chemical encouragement.
Fifi LaRue said…

"there's one group that still eludes Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: the A-list inner circle.

After failing to get an invite to the Oscars or the Beckham wedding, insiders say the couple are feeling snubbed by the local celebrities in California – and are setting their sights instead on being king and queen of New York."

I am not sure who the source is for this quite, but I do believe it, and the rumour has been doing the rounds for a while now.

Anyone here who knows a lot more than I do about New York social and political circles? How will their attention-seeking grandiosity go down in New York?

Although I do not know much about Giles Coren, he comes across as unpleasantly bitchy to me. I find it interesting, considering his close connection to Soho House, that he has turned on the duo. Surely Markus will not be pleased?!
I used to think that G Coren was something of a Sugar, and unpleasant with it, but he's certainly turned his coat here - a rather acceptable piece of satirical sarcasm.

His father, Alan Coren, was a humourist whom I really liked when he was on the radio - it was a sad day when he died. G's younger sister is Victoria Coren Mitchell - of `Only Connect' (TV panel game).

----------------

re Jealousy: my narc and her sister were desperately jealous of each other, each thinking the other was their father's favourite. The narc was/still is, as far as I know, a control freak. There have been 2 occasions when it's rightfully been `my' do - ie my wedding and my Art degree show, where she had to be centre of attention, and struggled to take over, even at risk of sabotaging the whole thing.

I finally went No Contact and swore I'd do all I could to promote awareness of such people. That's partly why I'm here.

I join all of you in thinking that a show depicting the different villages and livelihoods as explained and demonstrated for an interested outsider would have been very interesting. I also join you in thinking that The Bride of Frankenstein could not have pulled it off because she absolutely is not interested in anything except herself. There is not a chance that she could refrain from making herself the focus of attention. "Oooh, look at me dripping with jewels and designer dresses and shoes while walking through a dairy barn!" "Oooh, look at me telling the cheese makers how to do their job! Plus, I lecture at length about the evils of animal abuse to these unenlightened underlings. Watch my baby bump as it gyrates as I walk!"

While we imagine how great it could have been, that would only have been if a normal person had been involved. It could have been fun as we tuned in to see how she stole the spotlight THIS week.

Giles Coren is Victoria's brother? She is married to David Mitchell and is as intelligent and articulate as he is. It seems that Giles has channeled his sharp wit me into bitchiness and gossip, but if he has a sister who is so well connected in TV, herself and through her husband, then I would guess that TBW and her hapless husband are probably a laughing stock in the London social scene.

What do they do now? Canada used to be her stomping ground, and he was well like there, but it is a small pond and I doubt that they would be welcomed there. They are supposedly isolated from the A-list of Hollywood (no Oscar or Beckham wedding invite) and do not socialise with anyone in Montecito. When they become pariahs in New York, where do they go next? Chunga Chunga?

@snarkyatherbest
Thanks for the insight about the social and political scene in New York. I think they do still have a few connections, such as the Misha woman, but New York must be hellish expensive. I bet they are looking for a freebie where they can squat. Shady Russian oligarchs must be hurting badly as a consequence of the war, so who the heck is going to pay for the New York pad? (I do believe she still has delusions of grandeur re. the UN, and they think their royal titles will open doors in New York the way they have not done in LA.)

Her overpriced Invictus wardrobe is inappropriate as usual. She us a fashion magpie, drawn by shiny showy things. The overused bronzer and grubby nails scream " dirty girl". Soap, water, luffa and nail brush would do wonders.

I wandered over to The Guardian to read a royal-related article, and wasted a good 5 minutes that I can never retrieve. The Guardian hates everyone in the royal family, except the dastardly duo.

There is an aspect of the behaviour of the dastardly duo that I find particularly distasteful ... how very rude they are. An American, who lied about becoming a British citizen, essentially stole a title and a huge amount of money from the British people, has behaved very badly when she was essentially acting as a representative of the head of state, and is furious because she was stopped from continuing to milk taxpayers (for security and the cost of self promotion through select tours and appearances). That he fell in love with her and is still married to her has inevitably reflected very badly on him, especially as for him it was personal (his family, friends, country, entire life).

I see she is still stalking the Obamas with another new hire. I can believe that her ambition is to be president (how the heck is she going to fund that, which would be a lot more expensive than buying copies of her own book?) and fantasizes about marching into Buckingham Palace as the superior of whoever is head of state, being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, and whatever other teenage foolishness swirls round in her head.

https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/camilla-will-put-prince-william-in-his-place/
—————————————

So this is how it’s going to be: in the wake of the Suxxits’ disastrous recent PR and Hazmat’s incendiary interview to Hoda Kotb, cue the Cambridge/Camilla smear pieces from the Markle megaphones.

Robert Jobson Is certainly no friend to William or Camilla If attributions made here about his forthcoming book, “William at 40”, To be published on Williams birthday, June 21 are true. Apparently Jobson is going to make hay with a lot of copy devoted to William’s short fuse, erratic temper and lack of deference to his father. According to Jobson, at least was quoted here, William does not respect the prince of Wales and considers himself to be “equal” to Charles, Whereas Charles has always deferred to the Queen. Not withstanding that Charles’s behavior during his first marriage and his subsequent hands off demeanor with his boys has, it could be argued with justification, earned their scorn and distrust at times—Who else do we know that this is sounding like?

Whatever the strife between Charles and William in private, or the fact that “Basher” has got the temper that runs through the veins of the Windsor men…Perhaps with Charles and Edward as exceptions—he is able to control himself in public and represent the Royal brand Without either embarrassing the queen, or having allegations of bullying staff being brought against him. Even the queen used to slug Margaret when they were children, and that made me raise my eyebrows, but the issue with Harry is that there is zero difference between his personal conduct and his public one. He’s just a little rotter all the time. No doubt he considers this a virtue, but the intent here is definitely to make out that William is “just as bad as me, but he gets all the praise, all the money, all the houses, all the tours and attention while I get diddly squat and it’s not fair waah!”

Also in light of how Hazmat feels about his stepmother, and will Without doubt trash her in his upcoming memoir, Isn’t it convenient that Robert Jobson trots out The convenient narrative of Camilla as a Svengali-seque b*tch Who plots for ways to control Charles and diss William for “getting uppity”, In the guise of protecting her husband?

The Jobson book is going to be a companion piece to Hawwy’s In terms of savaging the already dysfunctional royal family. I say boycott.

@snarkyatherbest: I agree with you that it is very difficult to just walk in and get the job of a governor of a state or a seat in the US Senate or a seat in the US House of Representatives by cutting in line ahead of politicians who have worked years to get a shot at being the nominee of their political party to run as a candidate for any of these jobs.

I think behind the scenes, there are plenty of Democrats who would be outraged if Meghan attempted to scoop up one of these jobs for herself. I also think the elites in Hollywood would warn elites in New York, who likely already know about her behaviors in public and private, to distance themselves from the Sussexes and beware of being Markled.

US politics at any level is a pretty cutthroat business, and frankly, I don’t think Meghan’s victim mentality would last long in a nasty bare-knuckled campaign of any sort. She would describe herself as a “woman of color,” but none of the black Americans I know think of her as black and I think that opinion extends to many black Americans beyond my personal and professional circles. Many blacks think of her as living a white life and using the fact she has a black mother when it is convenient to help whatever personal agenda she is attempting to advance at the moment.

The allegiance of any American citizen who gladly chases and then accepts multiple royal titles from a foreign country and then turns around to essentially use the fame generated from holding those titles to run for a government office in the US would certainly be questioned not only by her political opponents, but by the voters too.

I believe that under US law, a private American citizen might be legally allowed to hold a title from a foreign nation. However, it might not extend to be legal for that person to hold a government office, especially an elected office or an appointed position where they would be privy to secure or top secret information or intelligence or command military or police forces.

And let’s face it, Meghan would be highly unlikely to renounce all of her titles to run for political office. They will be eating ice cream cones in hell before she willingly gives them up. The titles are all Harry’s wife has. If she has no titles, POOF! She’s a nobody.

On the UK side of the coin, I do not know what British law is on a royal holding a government office of a foreign nation, but even if somehow it’s legal for a royal to do it, I don’t believe HMTQ, Charles, or William plus the sitting Prime Minister and Parliament would allow her to even run for an American political office as a duchess or using any of the lesser titles she holds due to her marriage to Harry. My guess is this would be an excellent opportunity for her to be stripped of ever using any of her courtesy titles, including Princess Henry, if she filed the paperwork to run for a political office in the US or accept an appointed post such as Secretary of State, US Ambassador to the United Nations, an ambassadorship to a foreign country or anything else.

She has already revealed herself to be treacherous and less than truthful in her dealings with the United Kingdom and the monarchy, so it is likely that as a woman who never bothered to take the steps to become a British citizen, the royal family and the British government would have an excellent reason to strip her of ALL titles and prevent her from ever regaining them.

In a way, if Meghan’s grandiosity and sense of entitlement lead her to run for American political office or even insert herself any deeper into the US political scene, if it gave the Brits an excuse to permanently remove all of the titles, it would be a good thing for everyone on both sides of the Atlantic.

Except Meghan and Harry.

Robert Jobson Is certainly no friend to William or Camilla If attributions made here about his forthcoming book, “William at 40”.

There is an excerpt from Jobson’s book in today’s DM. I think you would find it interesting—it is more critical of Harry than William:

Papa doesn't embarrass me... Mama does': Prince William was the crutch for a troubled mother while his brother revelled in freedom of being the 'spare'. Now a new book by ROBERT JOBSON sheds light on the family pressures that shaped our future king

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10749211/Papa-doesnt-embarrass-Mama-does-ROBERT-JOBSON-pressures-shaped-Prince-William.html

“In the end, it would be Harry who would have mental health problems and need to turn to therapy.

And it would be William — who might so easily have been permanently damaged, mentally and emotionally — who developed into a well-adjusted and level-headed adult, with an inner core of steel.”

RE: Robert Jobson book

From the book: W (8 yo) H (6 yo) ... "being driven to Highgrove — their father’s house in Gloucestershire — with their mother, Princess Diana, and royal protection officer Ken Wharfe.

The brothers, still just eight and six, were having an argument on the back seat when Harry suddenly burst out: ‘You’ll be King. I won’t — so I can do what I want!’

Ken Wharfe recalled: ‘The princess and I just looked at each other, a little shocked by what he had said.’" ...

I read that and thought that D missed a real teaching moment about that although William would be king, that it did not mean at all that H would be able to do what ever he liked without consequence. No one in life is able to do what they like without consequence in behaving towards others. Those days have come and gone for the next in line.

I've just seen this in the DM

Donald Trump has urged the Queen to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of all their royal titles as he described the Duke of Sussex as being 'whipped like no person I think I've ever seen' and 'led around by his nose'.

🤣 Ouch! If only H could realise... Will he ever wake up?
Elizabeth quoted The brothers, still just eight and six, were having an argument on the back seat when Harry suddenly burst out: ‘You’ll be King. I won’t — so I can do what I want!’

That particular argument and comment has been in the British media many times over the years. To make up for the fact William was seen and treated differently (by others) because he’d be King, Diana spoilt and over indulged Mole, and I believe Charles did too. It very obviously ruined him. He needed a firmer hand than most children and according to many, he’s got away with poor etc., behaviour throughout his life, with an extremely high egotistical opinion of himself to boot. 😩

He quoted from a Rumi poem in his closing speech at the IG. Here is a longer excerpt from the poem, which is proof that she grabs quotes from some Internet site without ever actually having read the piece:

"Put your vileness up to a mirror and
weep. Get that self-satisfaction flowing out of you! Satan thought, “I am better than Adam,” and that better than is still strongly in us.

Your stream-water may look clean,
but there’s unstirred matter on the
bottom. Your Sheikh can dig a side
channel that will drain that waste off.

Trust your wound to a Teacher’s surgery. Flies collect on a wound. They cover it, those flies of your self-protecting feelings, your love for what you think is yours."

He tagged on an international conference for Travalyst at the end of the IG. This seems to be what it does, other than have conferences:

'a shared framework to collect and display flight emissions data,'

The tool to collect data on carbon emissions was developed by Google, or was it Facebook, after it became a partner. So, partners in the travel industry simply commit to using this tool to make it possible for travellers to check carbon emissions when planning a trip. All the other lofty waffle on the website (about sustainability and supporting locals) remains empty PR.

By the way, Africa has been doing sustainable tourism for decades to fund the protection of wildlife and habitats. Many places now also use paid volunteering to raise funds. He has not partnered with nor does he share information about any of these.

The website actually has some admirable goals, but in reality, what it actually does ...! And, as I pointed out above, the concept is well developed in Africa. All he adds to sustainable tourism is the checking carbon emissions information being made available for travellers, so it is not actually sustainable tourism.

I suppose the whole Travalyst makes him feel important, and that is what it really is about. I wonder how it is funded? He used the large transfer from The Royal Foundation initially, but that money will run out. I suppose each organization that joins pays a subscription fee ...

English Place Names:

I yell at the TV when presenter's called Totnes `Tot Ness' - it's`Totniz'.

German and Old English may have been phonetic languages, pronounced as spelled, according to fairly simple rules. Modern English (pronounced `Inglish') isn't. Spelling and pronunciation have both changed over the last 1000 years but haven't gone hand in hand.

The `-chester' names are a particular pitfall - I was in a china shop once when I heard a transatlantic visitor enquiring about `Royal Wor-chester porcelain'. (Worcester is pronounced `Wooster' , like PG Woodhouse's Bertie).

As for Cirencester! Usually that's `Siren- Sess-ter' but the truly grand say `Si-siss-ster'.

My favourite though was heard from a Cornish Hotelier who quoted visitors saying they were going to `Tint-a-jell' ie Tintagel pron:`Tin-tadj'l'.

Even the natives fall into traps, especially Southerners in the NE, where vowels are strong diphthongs. Years ago, I went for an interview in Durham. My directions told me to get a bus from the railway station (as it was called then) and ask for `Quarry Heads Lane'.

When the conductor came to take my fare, I named the stop I needed. He hadn't a clue what I'd said, so I enunciated even more clearly. Still blank response. So he asked all the other passengers on the lower deck where they thought I wanted to go. They were just as bemused until one cottoned on to my needing `Qua-a-rry Hee-adds Lee-ann'. (Apologies to any Wearsiders here for my attempt to render it!)

The bus soundscape then became a seemingly endless stream of repetition of the name, as they told each other what I'd meant to say and had a damn' good laugh about it. I sat there wishing I could drop through the floor.

I passed the interview and whenever I subsequently got the bus up the hill from town, I'd say `Ay-ut, please' (the fare was 8d).

I do disagree with his opinion that the hapless prince will leave her and return to family and country. She would ruthlessly use the children, plus spread lies about him and his family. It seems that the excerpts of Robert Jobson's biography on William were curated by Marie Claire (one of the Hearst rags in the pocket of Sunshine Sachs) to purposely highlight all the negative bits he may have mentioned about William's legendary temper, rows with Charles, and a suggestion that Camilla watches William and Catherine like a hawk for any hints of overstepping their place and failing to be appropriately deferential to the future King. At this point it's hard to know what's actually in the book vs. what snippets are being willfully misquoted by "journalists" bought and paid for by Smegs' PR retainer. The whole tone of the article was to paint William as an egregious hypocrite, getting away with behavior that H is continually criticized for and engaged in a battle of wills with his father's wife over who is actually 'in charge'. One would suppose that an entire work on William would be in the main sympathetic to its subject, so I accuse Smeg's PR monkeys of tinkering around to make William look bad and undeserving of his role.

"Cui bono?" applies. Who most directly benefits from insuring negative press for the Cambridges and Camilla? Well, who's got the greatest beefs with all concerned? Hawwy of course and his wife. But Jobson has been known to turn his coat and play both sides and was sucking up to the Suxxits around the time of their exit. That would be backing the wrong horses for sure.

Diana may have loved her ginger scamp as a little mini-me of herself. William belonged to the Crown from the moment he was conceived but Hawwy could be 'hers'. She went on the record a number of times to praise William as 'the sensible one, like his father' (a compliment to Charles also) while Hawwy got labeled 'an airhead like me'. Well, Diana could be astute and this was one of those times, underneath the self-deprecating jest. Hawwy is an airhead, as is his wife, but they are two airheads that insist on being treated as though they are smart and have anything meaningful to say. A very dangerous combination. The recent remarks about the spirit of Diana seemingly abandoning the so-called 'Golden Child' and settling her favor on her 'real favorite son' are an attempt to remake himself from the 'airhead' that even his loving Mum thought he was. The spirits of deceased loved ones looking down on their survivors and arranging their paths though life is not a tenet of CoE theology and sounds kind of like seance territory. Will we be seeing fairies in the garden next, Hawwy?

For a man who seemed to be on his deathbed at the time of his daughter's wedding, Thomas Markle has proven to be remarkably resilient. 4 years on and he's still here, still popping up in interviews, and, one supposes, being handsomely paid for his moments of media attention. If dishing on his traitorous daughter allows him to recoup some of his expenses spent on her ungrateful a$$ and allows him some material comforts in his last years after becoming practically destitute over *'s sucking him dry, I don't begrudge him. I also see it as an important function of his (and by extension the rest of her ghosted and reviled family) to continually remind her that they exist and they refuse to be erased because they are inconvenient to her now. By all means, Tom's ace in the hole is being the plaintive and deprived grandfather longing to see his youngest grandchildren. He and Charles could do a double act there. Keep on hammering home on the issue of the invisible heirs of Windsor, I say. Make people wonder why keeping the children out of the public eye also includes any visits to either side of their family.

Mr. Markle spent his whole career behind the camera; he knows how to make other people look their best but he is his own worst stumbling block in terms of his personal presentation. People judge on appearances and that judgement is not in his favor, despite character testimonials. I think he would serve himself better by keeping a lower profile in the media and instead see about getting a book deal ala Hawwy, with help from a co-writer to polish it up. Even the threat of a tell-all memoir about MeMe's childhood and young adult years will have her sweating bullets. Maybe, given his age and state of health, a series of magazine pieces is more likely to be completed and distributed. Or maybe he could release a podcast . . that would be some fun! He could invite guests: some of Meggy's surviving teachers, "friends from the neighborhood", cast members from the various shows he worked on . . Let her try to litigate *that*. Oh, she would. But it would take years and meanwhile Tom could have his say, at least partly.

The following is a submission posted on a tumblr blog The Empress 7.

Apparently H wants Invictus to be like the Special Olympics and Paralympics, but bigger.

I have contacts within relevant companies etc. due to my work in sport diversity and inclusion efforts. He has been laughed at, and sponsors are dwindling too, as again I know sports sponsorships and deals from my work and what has been said is that he (and she) are asking for OTT amounts of money for themselves and want accommodation etc. covered in full too.

Invictus is, from a contact I have within it, going bankrupt and basically money laundering. Athletes were left struggling due to financial mismanagement by Invictus. BetterUp was forced on them by Harry and not one of the teams want to partner with them either. The teams all have their own psychologists, therapists and doctors who know their athletes and were told to cough up the money for the deal with BetterUp too. Also Harry did not like Willem-Alexander and was extremely backhanded towards him, and didn’t like sharing with him.

Harry thinks he is the new Eunice Kennedy. He regurgitates information not knowing what he’s talking about and investors are extremely alarmed, it is turning into a shill for him and Meghan. He doesn’t care about the athletes or anything, it’s all about him. But he is more a Charles Ponzi, Elizabeth Holmes, Tom Petters, Bernie Madoff. He is shady and he is dirty. When it’s coming out about his connections with Russian oligarchs, believe them as via hidden means that is how he is getting funds.

A few of my journalist contacts were at Soho House funnily enough in Amsterdam, and Meghan did not leave to return to California, she was there and she was drunk. She only left mid week. Both of them were there throughout the games and repeatedly drinking, partying and were joined by Scobie and Martin. She gets violent when drunk though, and mocked a Dutch waitress, which from what my journalist contact said, was getting eyes from a drunk Harry.

So yeah Invictus isn’t expected to survive, is deep in shady business and the marriage doesn’t seem good at all… she hated being near him and ignored athletes wanting to talk to her.

Anon, thank you for the Tea on IG. I was being hyperbolic when I said last week that IG was probably going bankrupt, I hate that I was right. Also I kid you not I told a friend on here that I did not think M flew back to the US on that Monday like she was supposed to, it was obvious since no one on her team or around her mentioned that she did. Her makeup artist posted pics from Soho House in Amsterdam a couple of days later and that’s when I knew my suspicions were correct. Again, thank you for the tea*

*all alleged and for entertainment purposes

An old video of a garden tea party for the Queen Mother's 101st birthday (at Clarence House because it was her home).

Harry is sitting with his father at the beginning of the video, and William is with his father, the Queen and the Queen mother at the end.

There is nothing sinister here, including the talk of shouting. Both sons grew up with loving parents who were probably indulgent and a bit relaxed about discipline, and both were surrounded by extended family, were born into and grew up in huge privilege.

Here's some more tea on Reddit, the person who posted made some clarification when it was pointed out that it was released in advance that the wife would leave NL early. I'm posting those too.

----------------------

Word on the street is that Netflix is precariously close to dropping Pearl and all future Harry and Meghan projects in wake of Invictus Games controversy and subscriber loss.

MM's early departure from Invictus "because she missed her kids"--was highly controversial to those behind the scenes with Netflix and less about her kids than she'd have everyone believe. ALLEGEDLY, she left early as part of a temper tantrum thrown because she was bored at the games, that she wasn't given more opportunities in the limelight, and that they put their foot down about her reading that vanity proj-- I mean, children's book of hers to yet another group of kids. Whether or not Pearl lives to see release or never makes it off the ground remains to be seem, but the gossip is that neither Meghan nor Netflix were on good terms when Meghan left the Netherlands last Monday.

P.S 1.The controversy surrounding the different departures happened when the itineraries were being set, before they even left the US. Netflix was of the mind that either Just Harry would go and or that Harry and Meghan would go and leave together. There was bickering about who would pay Meghan's expenses (of course the answer is not her), whether Netflix would pick up the tab for the children/Nanny's (no), and if not, Meghan would need to leave early. There were tantrums thrown, just not about her early departure.

2.Allegedly Netflix wanted Just Harry to go. But of course Meghan cannot abide that and demanded to go too. However, she also insisted on being fully financed while there, which is fair if she's wearing ugly clothes on Netflix's behalf. So then Netflix wanted her and Harry to come and go at the same time. BUT suddenly she can't be without the kids that long, even though she can leave a three month old home and fly overseas to watch a goddamned tennis game. Anyway, she allegedly then wanted to ship the kids, their nannies Sophie the Giraffe, children's Benedry and and all their other entourage with them on the Netflix dime, just like Will and Kate did with George and Charlotte except she can't quite grasp that she's not a Royal on the Royal dime. Allegedly, Netflixed nixed the kids and their staff so Meghan had to leave early because she's such an incredible mother.

I think she was always scheduled to only be at the IG for the first few days. So, nothing sinister about her leaving. Note that each day she was there was carefully planned so that there would be some activity or event organized around her. She has no interest in the games, and I think whoever planned the trip quickly ran out of stuff for her to do to keep her in front of the cameras and stave off boredom.

They were supposedly putting out feelers for paid appearances, but I think that there was no interest, so there was no reason for her to stay. I don't believe the 'missing the kids' story. That was not the reason she left. She always was scheduled to leave the games when she did.

At least he made an appearance at the games every day, which he did not do the other two times that she was with him and made an appearance.

I do wonder who paid for her to be there, including the outfits, new jewellery, make up guy, security, personal assistants ... Do you think Netflix paid indirectly (claimed as production costs) or did the IG foundation pay?

On paper, I would think IG. For the duo, their appearances for IG are their favours to the charity, sprinkling their brand of fairy dust. It's been their MO with most charities - pay us in cash or kind to do our special thing for you. So from social media mentions, photographs, travel and stay arrangements - even the gold necklace she took away from that charity in Canada - they operate as celeb benefactors who must be paid.

However, Netflix has been in bind with its contract with the duo. So Netflix pays IG for exclusives, general footage, and part of that is claimed as IG's massive cost for the Harkles.

This would be my absolute amateur take.

Apologies for all the typos. And for the questions, but sometimes I struggle to make sense of that crazy couple and thus value the opinion of others.

My opinion is that all the hype about them taking part in the Jubilee celebrations and being provided with security and christening a child who will be walking by then ... all their PR. There is no role for them in the Jubilee celebrations. If they are on the balcony at any time, it will be with extended family and they will be pushed to the back. There is no reason to give them special treatment.

I doubt they would have the children on the balcony because my guess is that they would have no idea of how to interact with them. It's not like a photo with nanny on hand and a whole day to get the perfect shot. As for the Queen, she has 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, plus a step great grandchild. I doubt she is pining for the Sussex children.

Anyway, Thomas will be the story, and the dastardly duo won't like that at all. They would have to give a major controversial interview or release an explosive memoir to dominate the media during the Jubilee celebrations.

Between Thomas and his daughter, they are going to make sure the Jubilee celebrations are all about the Markles.

The apple does not fall far from the tree!

But, I do not think his daughter has the right to shut him up, break his heart for doing far less than what she does herself, or unleash world media on him without offering any protection (in contrast, Doria was given a huge amount of protection and support, including a message to photographers on Kensington Palace stationery that she could get an assistant to hand out).

Thomas is never going to get justice, in my opinion, and is as annoying as hell, but he has the right to speak and so I do not support those who tell him to shut up.

Why he is obsessed with the grandchildren is a mystery to me. Sure, he seems to have seen all his other grandchildren when they were young, but seems to have no relationship with any of them now. The Sussex children are estranged from all family except Doria, and that is strange. But would Thomas have a close relationship with them if he had not been ghosted?

All this focus on the Queen is something I find bizarre. She is their great grandmother, and has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. What about Charles, who has lost a beloved son, and William, who has lost his only brother ...? All the PR from the duo is always focused on the Queen as well. What is wrong with these people? Why don't they just leave her alone?
Sandie said…
Scobie has been made executive royal editor of Yahoo UK, and he is already filling the site with pro-Sussex propaganda, attacking Angela Kelly, and once again claiming a special close relationship with the Queen.

Sandie said…
By the way, Catherine did not have access to the tiara she was going to wear before her wedding day, so TBW was simply refused special treatment that no one else got. That fact gets buried under the propaganda. She already got a wedding that was inappropriate for a divorced woman, an early appearance with the Queen, Christmas at Sandringham before marriage ... She just wanted special treatment and all rules to be broken for her but could not even be bothered to become a British citizen. Her sense of entitlement is crass.

Hopefully Netflix gave the Duo minimal upfront money. Say one million dollars. The rest of the contract is pay as you go. Netflix pays as you work on projects. Megs has done minimal work on her cartoon, so she is prime for Netflix to cancel now and not pay out anymore.

I have the Depp/Heard trial on. A psychologist testified that Ms. Heard is diagnosed with Histrionic Personality Disorder. The disorders description reminds me of Ms. M

I just read the same story in DM and had exactly the same reaction. Amber Heard and * are very much alike.

And Tina Brown quoted form an interview with Washington Post Live today:

'Meghan doesn't really have a brand – you feel that she is grasping at the 'Twitter caring' of the moment. Vaccinations, Ukraine, Women's rights, my 40th birthday, let's have a mentoring scheme. Nothing is really going anywhere for Meghan.

'And the whole problem, with entertainment deal is you have to produce. They've signed with Netflix but what have we seen? Nothing.

'Creating entertainment that works is very hard to do. Their Spotify podcast is going nowhere. Netflix is not doing so well are they going to renew that contract?'

Et al

Do you sincerely still believe there are no children? I simply can not accept that Archie and Lily are figments of Twit and Twat’s imagination. If they were, the RF would surely have severed ties with them completely. The damage to the Monarchy would be cataclysmic if they had been essentially helping to perpetuate a con of that magnitude by remaining silent for so long. And why would Eugenie and her husband, who visited them in Santa Barbara, go along with the deception? There is simply no way they would unless they are as mentally ill and delusional as T & T.

I’m not trying to pick a fight. I just don’t buy it for a second.

Therapist? What therapist?': Prince Harry hits out at British attitudes towards mental health
Duke of Sussex criticises the stiff upper lip as he reveals 'immense' cultural differences between UK and US in latest podcast appearance

By Hannah Furness

The Duke of Sussex has criticised the British reluctance to talk about needing counselling, instead praising California’s “I’ll get my therapist to call your therapist” mentality.

The Duke, speaking on a podcast about mental health, said the cultural differences between the UK and US were “immense”, as he urged the public to get on the “front foot” to prevent burnout.

Saying “99.9 per cent of people on planet Earth are suffering from some form of loss, trauma, or grief”, he warned the body “doesn’t forget” emotional damage of childhood and argued: “The more we understand it, the more we understand each other.”

The Duke made a “cameo” appearance on the Masters of Scale podcast to talk about BetterUp, the mental health app he works for as its chief impact officer.

'Uphill battle'

Reid Hoffman, the podcast host, described the “sometimes an uphill battle” the Duke is said to have faced while talking about mental health in the UK.

“You're absolutely right, Reid, about the cultural differences, they're immense,” said Harry.

“You talk about it here in California, ‘I'll get my therapist to call your therapist’.

“Whereas in the UK it's like, ‘Therapist? What therapist? Whose therapist? I don't have a therapist. No, I definitely don't, I've never spoken to a therapist.’”

In the same episode, the Duke disclosed how he became convinced of the importance of mental health after visiting a military barracks in London where a soldier was “physically shaking” and “visibly suffering” as a result of PTSD.

Listening to the stories of servicemen, he said, “I started to realise parts of my own story were being mirrored or reflected in that”.

He went on to argue that PTSD should be renamed to swap “disorder” for “injury”, allowing people to imagine recovering from it more easily rather than feeling “screwed for the rest of their life”.

'Mental fitness' over 'illness'

“What we want to be able to do is turn the conversation from mental health, which is so much focused around mental illness, and change the dialogue and change a whole conversation to make it more around mental fitness,” he said. “I think that's really where we're headed now.

“Rather than looking at going, ‘Yeah, exactly that, every single day I'm trying to survive’, or, ‘Every single day I'm trying to cope’, I think we need to completely change it.

“And that's what I mean about the difference between mental health and mental fitness, is the mental fitness aspect is like, ‘I'm not going to wait for myself to be, either collapse on the floor or wait to have a nervous breakdown or burnout and then have to fall on my friends or then have to pay X amount of money or find the money to be able to afford professional help’.

“Mental fitness, as far as I understand it, is more a case of get on the front foot. What can you do to be proactive, to prevent the situation from happening?”

Interesting comment in that Telegraph article @Rebecca.

I thought "cultural differences" were supposed to be admired and respected?!?! Therefore, why is it ok for JH to complain about the cultural difference of the "stiff upper lip"?!?!

Reading Tina Brown's article on the Trotters in DM she says Trotter was a "very worldly" advisor to Mr. LOL. Disagree vehemently. Worldly Ha. Creative No . Original No. Hardworking Hardly. Fortitude and follow-through? No.
Just wanted to capitalize on being "Royal" and flaunt her Royal status. Wants the wealth and stays of Michelle O.
After watching A Very English Scandal where the Duke and Duchess of Argyll were called "Your Grace," Surely the Trotters are not addressed in that manner. Thanks to the Nutty who mentioned it. It was an interesting, albeit somewhat depressing story. Do not like people who use others.

Compared to the world Mole lived in, he would have viewed and considered Maggot worldly. He saw her owning and living her life as she wanted, whereas he felt powerless etc. Mole believed what he heard and saw of her. 😕

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...

The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
