Meg's fashion mysteries: A black dress to a wedding?

What do you think of Meg's dress for Misha Noonoo's wedding?

It has been identified as being from Valentino. Price: 9000 pounds, or $11,200 in US currency.

So far I've heard: "Malificent", "I Dream of Jeannie at a Funeral" "Endora from Bewitched" and "Fredericks of Hollywood Catalogue 1987."

(British readers, I'm sure you have something similar in your entertainment history. Could we say that it looks like something Diana Dors sold off at a jumble sale?)

At any rate, the dress also reminds me of some fancy perfume bottles my mother used to have back in the day.

High-end, bedazzled mosquito net for her trip to South Africa?

It definitely looks like a Halloween costume.

Oh, man. First of all, what guest wears all black to a wedding? Isn't that supposed to be bad luck? If I got a wedding invitation, you betcha' the first thing I'd fantasize about is looking like a thunder cloud to really brighten up the couple's day.

I think I've gotta go with Norma Desmond as played by Carol Burnett.

It is a thunder cloud, isn't it? Meg's here, here comes the lightening and rain.

Agnes Moorhead was actually a very pretty lady and a highly accomplished stage actress. That blue eyeshadow didn't flatter her.

For those who didn't see the link I left on the other thread. This picture makes it look like a belly-dancing costume. Very see-through. Don't know if she's wearing appropriate undergarments. There are photos of her going 'commando' in Oz. As I said on the other thread, maybe she's already advertising for her return to yachting, along with merching. Wonder if Meghan's Mirror already has it. I'm interested to know whether she's managed to drop any weight since the last time we saw her. I was always brought up with the rule that you never wear black or white to a wedding, & you never, ever want to show up the bride. No etiquette books for Megs, I guess.

Also, I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you, that Harry didn't wear that GAWDAWFUL shiny gray suit to the wedding.
Nelo said…
When I saw the pics,I had to Google 'Is it ok to wear black to a wedding'? And most fashion sites say it's perfectly ok. Meghan wanted to be the center of attention at the wedding and she knew people will talk if she wore black. Bingo
SarcasticBimbo said…
You can totally tell from what I'm wearing, natch, because it's a better designer than Mischa, that I hope Mischa has a WONDERFUL marriage!
Nutty Flavor said…
I think the guest people will be talking about at this wedding is Ivanka Trump. Her peach goddess gown was awesome. Fit her perfectly.
NeutralObserver said…
Nutty's link to Neiman Marcus is faster. I searched Neiman Marcus for a mother of the groom dress for my son's wedding. Makes you wonder what Megs will wear to the hypothetical 'Archie's' wedding in 30 years or so. Will she still need to upstage all the women present including the bride, or will she have matured by then? Norma Desmond never lost her need for the spotlight. Megs is one of those actresses who really had no interest in the craft of acting, just wanted the spotlight. She's finally a success! Yikes. We all want this long nightmare to end.
Girl with a Hat said…
bootsy, or whatever his/her/their/its name was, liked it. LOL

Ivanka really knows how to dress well. She seldom goes wrong with her choices. She does look amazing.
Girl with a Hat said…
From a comment I read over at DM - Misha Nonoo divorced her gay husband to marry another gay man who is the lover of Joshua Kushner, brother-in-law to Ivanka Trump. Apparently, everyone in NYC knows this.
Lurking said…
I want to know if Smeg acknowledged Ivanka's presence.
SarcasticBimbo said…
Sorry, not sorry. I don't buy Haz's "It's the only suit I own," thing he's got going on.

I have a theory that he thinks wearing that raggedy thing every fucking day makes him a "man of the people who has to scrimp and save just to get by."
SarcasticBimbo said…
Oh, I have to laugh at that. She wore grandma's slip covers to the state dinner with HMTQ.
NeutralObserver said…
Love Ivanka's sophisticated new bob. Megs should do a bob & let her hair go natural. She seems to be losing hair, & she wears terrible wigs. You can get really healthy shiny looking wigs, but hers look like they need fumigating. A soft natural bob, & a more subtle maquillage. She could be very sophisticated & attractive looking IMO.
SarcasticBimbo said…
The only thing she was missing was the molting feather boa. Maybe she'll break that out for "Archie's" wedding. LMFAO!
Hikari said…
Endora from Bewitched, definitely.

Jeannie may have worn something similar to a funeral, but Barbara Eden would have looked cute in it, not to mention, it'd have been a tiny size.

On account of the ill-advised bling, I'm going to go with 'Sicilian Hooker'. If it were unblinged, slightly more modest and came with a mantilla, I'd go with 'Strenga Nona come to put a hex on the bridal couple'.

Or "Mrs. Roper at a Miami Beach wedding", maybe?

It makes me laugh that Megs considers herself young, hip, and is going after the Millennial and younger market in her own mind. If we go by the disputed 1981 birthdate for her, Megs squeaks (barely) into the Millennial category, at the uppermost, elderly end. Millennials are the former Gen Yers, and the cut-off for Gen X is 1980. The youngest Kardashians, whom wants to emulate so badly are 22 and 23 respectively. *That* is young. As I noted in another topic, I work with some 23-year-olds and, viewing Megs through their eyes, Megs is old. Maybe not quite as old as their moms, but like an aunt. Her 1990s aesthetic was getting dated before they were even born. I did a little informal poll . . they are aware of who she is, but have zero interest in her wedding, her fashion or whatever she's trying to peddle as 'influence'. Megs' age and station puts her firmly into '40-year-old trophy wife' category. I almost said soccer mom, but let's face it, she doesn't have a child she'll be running to soccer any time soon (like, ever. Plastic dolls do not have the necessary animation or flexibility to play soccer.) Their interest is firmly on movie stars of their own age, like Tom Holland (Spiderman). Meghan is not on their radar at all.

In her mind she's the homecoming queen she once was, when she was 18. Her youthful style seems to have evaporated in inverse proportion to how much money she spends on these bedazzled schmattes. Something that godawful ugly shouldn't cost that much money.

If it were a few sizes larger, I'd have to go with 'Ursula' from Little Mermaid. It's truly ghastly, and it's just as well that I couldn't see it from the front. The view would not be improved.

It makes me laugh

I think Ivanka wanted to be super appropriate for the queen. Ivanka converted to Judaism, & I believe she & Jared belong to a form of Judaism which requires a certain amount of modesty in female dressing. Interestingly, this dress is fairly low cut, & there was a photo recently of her in a skirt that buttoned on the side. The photogs got quite a bit of one of her legs in when a gust of wind blew it. Of course. that was the one that made the press. Don't know if she's liberalizing her dress code or anything, but in recent years, she's been pretty covered up in photos,

Meghan really has a thing for black tulle: the Ralph & Russo engagement photo dress; that horrible b&w bird dress she wore to the awards dinner in AU, the Lion King dress and this.

Is Prince Charles really paying retail for all of these gowns (that she will only wear once), is she getting paid to wear them or are they loaned to her like actresses for red-carpet appearances? Would love to know...
Girl with a Hat said…

It's really a shame, because some of her previous gowns would have suited this party very well. The much-applauded blue cape dress she wore in Fiji, for example, assuming she can still fit into it. (No shade there - most women change size as they move through life.)

Since Misha is a fashion designer, wouldn't Meg have checked with her while deciding on a dress for the wedding? Or did she want her dress to be a "surprise"?
Nutty Flavor said…
A soft bob would be great. If she can still summon up some of her original natural curls, that would be great too. A short, curly style would be really cute.

Or maybe he's wearing it to try to get more money out of Prince Charles. Pleading poverty, and all.

Maybe Meg thought she could cover up her weight gain with this floaty dress. It didn't work out.

A really good stylist would be able to work with the body she has now, maybe do a Christina Hendricks in Mad Man type of voluptuous look.

Could be, Elle.

That said, in many cultures men like a thicker woman. Isn't Rihanna's Saudi billionaire boyfriend supposedly trying to fatten her up?

Inappropriate for the occasion dress. She can wear color, she should add more jewel tones to her wardrobe.

I agree with the bob cut, preferably with some natural curl. That would get her some good publicity for a change.

Working in theater, I have lots of friends who are gay men. That is how I learned what a "beard" and a "lavender marriage" meant. So I asked, why would they put on this charade if all their friends and families knew they were gay? The answer was inheritance. I was told the story of a man from a wealthy family, who all knew he was gay, but his parents insisted that he marry a woman or no money. So he married his best girl friend and they enjoyed the money. For the parents, it was about wanting the big wedding, impressing society friends, the optics.

When I saw Megs in the capsule launch get-up, I recognized my own body on her, though I have a lot more on top than she does. If Megs is Sponge Bob, I'm a classic apple shape. She might be an inch taller than me without the stilettos. Her outfit sans the baby poop colored accessories is an exact replica of what I was expected to wear at McDonald's as a crew member circa 2003, when I picked up some weekend shifts to make extra money. Just add black non-slip shoes and she'd be ready to shake those fries.

Megs and I have no discernible waists and flat butts. As I like to say, I carry my a$$ in the front. I own a couple of belts but generally avoid belts on principle.

I guess the men she used to entertain didn't care that she was short-waisted. I don't think they were in a position to get a really good look at her, if you know what I mean. From what I understand, they were either looking at the pillows or at the top of her head.

She should be wearing empire gowns that skim the body. Nothing tight. Not too much 'float'. V-necklines, nothing fussy. Gem-encrusted netting and taffeta is just wrong, wrong, wrong. It would look slightly less like a Goth Halloween costume in a cheerier color.
gabes_human said…
Oooh, I’ve been wondering that too. She interviewed and fangirled Ivanka when she had the Tig. I think I read that Ivanka sent her a handbag too. I’m curious if she’s such a fan now that Ivanka daddy and M aren’t besties.

I know we are supposed to be commenting on the horribly unattractive dress, but I for one could not take my eyes off of the top of Harry’s head! He has lost an insane amount of hair since he got married. Not only has he thinned tremendously on top, but it looks as though he has bald patches where it’s thicker at the bottom. Almost like clumps have been torn out. Not a good look. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

This was on Skippy, I'm not the only one who thinks the dress might be an advertisement for her next meal ticket.

snarkysnarkysally asked:

Hi skippy. Took a break and wow. MM anon was right about the wedding. They had to be there especially with who was attending otherwise there would be tons of questions. The vampire negligee looks like she’s advertising for her next job/husband/sugar daddy
The DM has the pound sterling equivalent amount wrong. The price for us Brits would be nearer 11k. Anyhow, the dress is just ghastly, almost horrific. It reminds me of the type of dresses worn in the 1970s BBC programme called ‘Come dancing’. I remember watching as a small child all the spangly net skirts twirling around the dance floor. 🤩
Oh, I noticed the distinct lack of hair too! I’m just amazed where it’s all gone almost overnight!

@Elle, so do I, it was not those men I was talking about. I'm talking about the ones who DO marry a woman, and it does happen. Well, well, well. Something about black at a wedding. Actually several other women are wearing black dresses.

😂😂😂 Poor fat Liz! Being compared to Meagain is such an insult!

As a side note, I work professionally with the 17-30 demographic. I have never directly asked them about Meghan but I know them fairly well. I actually am 37, born in 1982, so really the oldest of the millennials. They don’t look at us for what’s “hot, cool, and new on the scene” or think of us as “young”. It’s more like they aspire to dress and look as sophisticated and settled in their professional lives as the best of us do. Woman in their 30/40s are expected to have achieved that timeless, true-to-self, sense of style that translates well in both personal and professional life, like the perfect scarf, or accessory that makes an outfit. Definitely not wearing too much bronzer, a bad weave/wig, or looking like a sausage stuffed into a dress that’s too small. Even if a woman has gained a little weight in her 30s, it’s expected by now she’s learned how to dress to conceal her worst features and highlight her best. I wouldn’t say Meagain is “hugely fat” but she really needs to wear more flattering clothes that are the proper size. Probably could be summed up by saying “they hope to have their life together by age 38 and a women should dress like her life is together too”

I have worn a black cocktail length dress to several evening wedding receptions. I don't think I would wear black for a daytime reception. My sister-in-law's maid of honor/bridesmaids all wore different floor length black dresses that they choose themselves. (She thoughtfully wanted them to be able to wear the dresses more than once.) Maybe it's a regional/cultural taboo, but I see no problem with wearing black to a wedding. (I'm from New York and I know people who have entire wardrobes in black.)

1) How formal was the bride's dress? I was taught to never be more formal than the bride. Of course you can't always know what their dress will be like, but this is MM's close friend. Surely she would know what the dress was going to look like. If she dressed much more formal than the bride, that's poor form.

2) Realizing now that all the hype last week for SmartWorks dovetails right into this wedding. On the one hand, it maximizes exposure for both MM and Misha, ok. On the other hand, if I were Misha, I would not want to be trying to coordinate both of these activities within such close proximity to each other. And why didn't MM, as a caring and close friend, arrange for SmartWorks to debut a month before or after or so so Misha could breathe?
NeutralObserver said…
Forget how ugly the dress is. Why on earth would a married for just over a year new mother pushing 40 wear a dress like that to a close friend's wedding? It's so inappropriate. A normal nice woman would just put on a pretty dress & get on with it. Did Megs ever show signs of channeling Cher in her pre-Harry days.?? I've just seen her in her ripped jeans & boyfriend shirts, which seemed ok to me for a 'bright young thing' who fancied herself as someone cool. In fact, when I read the pre-wedding stories about her. . . feminist, environmentalist, convent school, Northwestern, sorority . . ., she seemed like a cute ordinary upper-middle-class young woman who happened to be an actress who was biracial. Cher is sui generis. She is what she is, & that's fine. She had a very hardscrabble childhood, & I've always speculated that her exhibitionism was a way of thumbing her nose at those who had made her feel like an outsider. That's ok. She put on a show. That was her act. I never got that vibe from Megs, she was all about this sunny do-goodism, messages on bananas, uplifting quotes, pretty pictures of pretty places, etc.. Her opinions didn't seem that different from my kids' or their friends. Wearing a slutty dress like that to a friend's wedding seems deeply hostile to me, even antisocial. I know the people at the wedding are all publicity hounds, but still, even Katy Perry looked more demure. I don't like putting psychological labels on people, & I know NPD is always thrown around in regard to Megs, but could she just be full of rage? The fishy pregnancy, the reports of tantrums, not wanting to give up her seat to a group of businessmen traveling together. . . could be saying she's angry, not just narcissistic. Maybe that's what she shares with Harry, 'the world is against us & doesn't understand us.' It's like she's flipping the bird to us all, but why? There, I've psychoanalyzed her, which I said I didn't want to do. I also think Cher would dress appropriately for a friend's wedding. She'd save the slutty stuff for the Oscars.
Girl with a Hat said…
there is a tendency to get black bridesmaid dresses so they can be worn again. I had a half dozen lilac floor length dresses from being a bridesmaid for my friends. But, I read somewhere that Misha had asked the female guests to wear muted colours.

So, have I got this right: she's pushing 40 and he's hit the 35 mark on the dial, she's wearing a wig, he's losing hair, she's got the chubby weight/gain shift going on, her skin looks like hell and he looks like something stressed and sad, but they're the middle-aged teenyboppers leading millennials to woke nirvana? GTFO.
NeutralObserver said…
Just looked at the additional photos on the Daily Mail.My earlier post might be a total croc. LOL. Maybe the dress Megs has on isn't the 'stripper getting ready to remove her seven veils thing' it looks like on the website. Hers looks like she may have had it lined so it doesn't look so trashy. She does look as big as a house in it though, with all of the puffs of fabric. Not a good choice for her. I may be wrong, but it looked as though Megs was trying to avoid the cameras for once in her life. It seemed as though she didn't get out of the same side of her car that Ivanka did when her car arrived, so photogs couldn't get full length shots of her. That's odd, because I remember reading somewhere that paps liked her because she always made it easy for them to get their shots, unlike Kate, who's apparently a bit camera shy. I still think she might be more angry than narcissistic. If she has anger issues rather than narcissism, a therapist might be able to help her. I think narcissists are much harder to cure.

Neutral, the underlying current of NPD is in fact rage. You hit the nail on the head. Some lash out in more dangerous ways than others, but ultimately they have split off from healthy coping personalities because these were not supported in childhood (is a theory I remember learning about).

I certainly am not a mental health expert, but if MM was truly taken to the Married with Children set after school regularly, instead of pursuing regular childhood activities, she may have adapted to this adult working world by splitting off from her child/teen identity and adopting that of an adult. That doesn't make any of her present behaviors OK. Many of her behaviors make no sense and it seems like she wants to provoke reactions in others.

The dress is another unfortunate fashion choice. My first thought was Alexis Carrington Colby boudoir wear. Perfect attire for "entertaining" or cat fights. Someone needs to get this woman a full length three way mirror. Agreed about the blue dress. The coloring was flattering on her. Time to ditch the black clothes and wear more colors. It will make her appear less witchy and more approachable.

Well, color me surprised. She was of legal age of consent and had sex (allegedly) with Andrew sometime in 2001. She claims she was paid $15,000 the next day by Epstein, not Andrew. No crime was committed per statute. I'm not sure what Scotland Yard was supposed to do with this.

I'm thinking she's hoping that the RF will pay her to just go away. It looks like Epstein's estate is going to go *poof* because of the Ponzi scheme and illegal trade allegations.
SwampWoman said…
No, but I'll wait right here beside you!
Anonymous said…
Not going to argue this one, but here's what I will say: age of consent doesn't make it okay and (once again) trafficking is never okay. Just because it wasn't a crime doesn't mean it's anything close to okay. I'll let everyone else take it from here because the whole epstein thing is not something I want to discuss here, nor is human trafficking (because it's wrong, regardless of age of victim).

I found one that's from the side, cut off at the knees, but shows the red clutch (nothing says "wedding" like red and black... well, actually make that "hooker wedding"...).

the guests were asked to dress for the theme "La Dolce Vita" i.e. 1950's Rome, and that is why Ivanka dressed the way she did. I don't think Meghan really followed the guideline.

Or vampire wedding. I guess vampire wedding could scream "red and black", too. Or maybe Julien Sorel's wedding, of course. But otherwise, no.

and Elle, there's a story in the DM about how everyone is linked. They do say that Mikey Hess, the groom, and Joshua Kushner are "best friends". I can't find the link now.

and they just put a story on DM about Meghan talking about gender violence while she in South Africa. This is a country where people are being dragged out of cars and set on fire because they are Nigerian, and she's going to lecture them? It also has one of the highest infant rape rates in the world. Can't she learn to keep her mouth shut and stop lecturing people who are dealing with a crisis?

I agree completely about the trafficking. It is not good.

My problem is that I could see PA being told one thing and she told a different about what was about to happen or motives about it. Those are people who, after all, are into head games. And PA is the one nearest to take a swing at who is still around.

Sad, sad, sad for everyone.

Sadly I’m sure Prince Andrew pretends all kinds of “Gee golly gosh I had no idea she was a trafficked sex worker” when interviewed. He’s just beyond sleazy because I’m more than certain he know exactly what they were doing to those girls but I’m also sure he has some level of plausible deniability. The result of the investigation is not at all surprising to me. I get that HM is attached to him but really he needs to retire ASAP. It’s a very bad look for the RF! Epstein had prior convictions and was no secret to anyone in the know amongst the elite!! Okay I’ll get off my soap box now!!

The difference is that RhiRhi looks fantastic and dressed for her body now. She's not dressing like some dead-eyed, coke addled, Adderal starlet that she once was, a la Sparkles. RhiRhi doesn't look for anyone's approval. Sparkles keeps making mistake after mistake trying to show off, live a lie and pander to the lowest common denominator of fandom and PR.

Markle is all about being center of attention, it isn’t the first time she tried to steal attention from a bride. I can only assume she selected the dress thinking it would make her noticed. I can’t help but wonder at the piece of trash’s sense of self
perception it’s pretty piss poor in my not so humble opinion

Oh, you just know that Meghan thought she would be the belle of the ball. I love it that Ivanka usurped her, again without any effort, much like the Cambridges do. Meghan consistently tries too hard and fails.

It really seemed like there was trouble in paradise the last few months, and I was hoping this was a foreshadowing of the end of this farce. Unfortunately, the look on Harry's face when they arrived to the wedding...he looks ecstatic. You can totally tell that he is still 100% into this debacle. It's strange to think he was once considered a "man of the people" and now he's just as much a starry eyed fame whore as his wife.
SwishyFishy said…
Meghan has also thrown some shade at Ivanka when she still had The Tig. It was coded in the way Meghan set up her old links to interviews. She referred to Ivanka in the links as Ivanka Drumpf.
I'm loving this thread, ladies! Elle, you are on fire!! Thank you for all the laughs :-).

It's unlikely that she will change her hairstyle anytime soon. She's quite married to that scraggly look, not to mention an 1990s fashion sense. Often, when you find women married to a past style, it's indicative of a time when they felt they looked and felt their best. She's pushing 40 (if not 43). She's not going to take to ageing gracefully.
Scandi Sanskrit said…
Ugh. Why are we rewarding her all this attention (which I'm guessing she's actually *trolling* for).

I'm pretty sure she understands it's a faux pas; and if she honestly doesn't, she's obviously surrounded by traditionalists who would've advised her to be on the safe(r) side of human decency: https://www.vogue.com/article/wedding-dress-code-etiquette-wearing-black

At best she might have a complex about other people's weddings where she consciously/subconsciously feels a need to sabotage all the attention from the couple, and needs to seek professional help to resolve the issue.

I can't believe the amount of time I spend commenting on this jerk because deep down I know she'd be absolutely CRUSHED if people stopped talking about her entirely...

I'd normally spend what free time I have developing my side-hustle, but Etsy's been screwing sellers over since July to impress investors.

Which has left me (and other sellers) feeling unmotivated to put time, energy, effort, watching tutorials, not to mention the listing fees (only to get de-indexed and never appearing in the search results while I still get billed) into Etsy because of it. Not to mention feeling coerced into buying ad space.

I need to get back on track! And cut back on reacting.

But I will keep following the story until the very end... I want to see how she copes with losing all the perks after she's become accustomed to the lifestyle (because I know what that's like). Meghan reminds me of too many of the worst people I've had the misfortune of meeting in my life rolled into one. (And I want to see some justice in this world.)

But I'm not going to comment on every single attention-seeking antic she pulls and give her what she craves.

With regards to Elizabeth Taylor, she actually did walk the talk, unlike Markle. Her daughter in law, Aileen Getty, had HIV and Elizabeth was her only support. The entire greedy-bastard Getty clan disowned her when they found out. Elizabeth was there for her and made she had meds and was cared for. Elizabeth took HIV and AIDS very seriously, as she did the gay community. I have a gay friend who had met her many times, first when he was a child - he said she was wonderful, sat on the floor of the hairdresser's salon and played with him in her fancy dress, regardless of her superstar status - to when he met her when she was older. He insists she was really a great lady with a bawdy sense of humor and down to earth behind the scenes.

And they've managed to twist sellers' arms into giving free shipping to American addresses which is killing sellers who sell heavier/larger items (like furniture, woodwork, and... goddess sculptures).

@Mischi, I just read on Lipstick Alley that the ruffles are all the way down the dress and worse than in the photo. That much money to look that horrid. They could choose to do 'one little bit of good because it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world', but instead, they went the let them eat cake route. Just SMH, so offensive.
Swishy... Every cloud has a silver lining. In MMs case her silver lining is her price tag. Meghan in her pre-wedding days probably wouldn't wear this, not only was this beyond her price range but it's also hideous.
It's like now she is asking Archie to select clothes for her.
With all this talk of Ivanka looking awesome in the peach gown (I absolutely agree, btw), I'd like to hazard a guess that MM next best friend might just be Ivanka.

If not the next best friend then at least somewhere down the line she could.
The timing for this wedding and the Smartworks thingamy is curious indeed. My thought is that the Smartworks or that Misha received from MM is her wedding gift. For the past few weeks all we've heard is Misha Misha Misha ... She had been in the news quite a lot. Free PR and she didn't have to do much for the charity either. (Her shirts are made to order, and are available online. She didn't have to keep much of a stock ready, and the shirts aren't cheap either. Also it's very similar to an earlier shirt style)

My guess would be that we'd hear a quite a bit of MN in the next few months. It's probably aimed to generate maximum publicity for nunu's new store in London.

Why now, you may ask? My theory - earlier Noono was married to something Gilkes, moved in the aristo circles lived a plush life, gave no fucks. Around d their separation, and then divorce she was very much out of her exs social circle so she had to make a few ripples and make a name for herself. She has always been rich, but not celebrity famous. Hence all the PR now.
Here’s the link showing the hideous sleeve (on Murky) and a full length image on a headless model! It’s like a flouncy 1970s thingy you’d wear over a matching nightie. Tacky.

So am I and Here! Here! (No offence Mischi). It's a Hollywood negligee. I mentioned Cyd Charisse on the last post, but now I think it's Rita Hayworth as she wore some pretty tacky stuff, even for one of her songs in Gilda (not the famous one of course - that's legendary). Only Rita could get away with that. I often find that glorious 1940s photos of Hollywood actresses are ruined by the most appalling appliqué and OTT designs, but maybe they were helping their fans who were having to remake old clothes into new, disguise worn patches etc. during the war. Our Megs has no excuse for her choices. The world is her oyster.
Ava C said…
Megs could look lovely in the past and it was usually when she looked softest, with muted makeup, misty eyes etc. That worked for her. I can just see her with a curly bob, or maybe shorter than that, like Heather Stewart-Whyte had in the '90s (Yay! The '90s! Megs would be on board with that!) If she got her old figure back, and dressed simply and elegantly, that would be a flattering counterpoint to Kate. As before, just dreaming ...

I saw Liz Taylor on stage in The Little Foxes in London as an extra-special 18th birthday present. Never forget it. I've been a fan all my life. Nearly everytime she had a line everyone clapped. Made a nonsense of the play but we weren't there for that. I kept pinching myself as I couldn't believe I was actually seeing her in real life. She was a trouper. As real as they come. And had a brilliant third act making a real difference in the fight against AIDS AND amassing several hundred million dollars with her fragrances. I loved that in her book about the diet that worked for her she invited people to put her fat photos on their fridges as a deterrent.

I don't remember her going down the chiffon/tulle route pre-Harry. Does anyone? My thoughts were she's trying to reset the clock back to the engagement, with that Ralph & Russo dress, before everything went wrong. Not realising that's WHEN everything started going wrong. Because of that dress. Would be typical of her tone-deafness to fail to realise that.

Has anyone read 'Elegance' by Genevieve Antoine Dariaux? So many rules, especially no diamonds in the daytime. There's a fantastic clip of Liz Taylor putting on her new diamonds and rubies by the swimming pool and she did swim in them. I'd have loved to see Liz deal with Genevieve Antoine Dariaux. But Meghan's not Liz. There are rules for everyone else. No gold and silver together unless you have an anchor piece of some kind, fabric or metals.

Someone used the word moth-eaten in a previous post. That's exactly it. Only for teddy-bears is that a sign of love. He looks sad and neglected. And it must be awful for him as he teased William for years about losing his hair. If I were him, I wouldn't want to see William, it would be so embarrassing (oh wait ...) He must have thought that because he had the Spencer colouring, like his Uncle Charles, he'd keep his hair, but the male Windsor genes were waiting underneath all the time.

Following on from Elle, the Elvis meeting Priscilla at 14 story is well-known and one of the Memphis Mafia in Germany asked "Now, what prison are we going to?” But he did it again, I mean really in public, getting engaged to a 20-year-old at the age of 42. I love Elvis still, but both cases bother me a lot. Especially as he's still given a free-pass, even now. Ginger Alden was over the age of consent, but there was such an imbalance of age, wealth, experience, influence and sheer power, it can never be right.

New to me. She'd have no reason to wear the Suits engagement ring off the set unless she wanted to set a story running. Foiled there, she just found other ways. It's as if she's the ocean and the BRF's a leaky ship. They were never going to keep her out.

I know Scandi, but other people may be reading too. We can only hope. It's obvious we're all ages, backgrounds and places. We're literate. We've put thought into this and shown it matters to us. If everyone stayed quiet she'd miss the attention for sure, but she'd be safer with the BRF too. The BRF love being left to enjoy their luxuries in peace.
I was thinking Eva Gabor in Green Acres, where she was waltzing around in those fussy pegnoirs. Or am I thinking of Lili von Schtupp in Blazing Saddles?
The tour isn’t until mid October. I personally haven’t noticed a lack of media interest, it’s not imminent, unlike the Sussex’s tour.

The Sussex’s tour is in 10 days, and most of the articles I’ve seen has been about how it needs to go well, due to all the negative media they’ve received.

Louis 500, will the suxesses remain in SA for six months as earlier reported or will they be back immediately after the tour?
I’d add too, the DM reports that she wants to lecture SA about gender violence. She’s an unelected public figure who’s supposed to apolitical, she should keep quiet and just represent the UK.
I’ve not seen any recent reports about them staying longer. Not sure it would be a good idea, it’s not safe. Aren’t they supposed to be concerned about security etc?

't bought anything there recently, but it's been a sort of go-to place for me to get hard to find gifts, especially for the younger people in my life. The sellers I've dealt with have been lovely. A friend's daughter who dealt with Amazon several years ago said that Amazon bullies it's sellers as well. I think Amazon needs to clean up it's act. It no longer has the best prices, & there have been WSJ stories about safety issues in some of the stuff they flog.

One, last thing. (Can't believe I'm so compulsive.) The Vogue article you've kindly linked us to, seems to have been written by a German aristo, who's decided to have a career. I think that family are as rich as god, & probably very powerful because of that, but like most European aristos, they don't have any constitutional roles, or depend on public approval. They can be as Eurotrashy as they want to be, with no repercussions. The BFR, which needs to appeal the public to retain its monarchial role, has to appeal to a wider public, & seems to have settled on the slightly dowdy but respectable 'county' aesthetic for its wardrobe choices, & its worked for them so far. Britain is rapidly becoming more vulgar like the rest of the world, but I'm not sure exactly how trashy the BRF can become. Theoretically, I guess the Crown Estates could be taken over by the gov't, & the royals would have to live on what they do actually own personally. They'd still be rich, but not on the same scale. I guess Charles is grappling with all of this stuff as we sit here typing in our virtual kaffeeklatsch! LOL.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...

I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
