Open Post: Day 3 of Meg and Harry's South Africa Trip

Well, the good vibes of Meg and Harry's first day in South Africa were apparently too good to last. Day 2 became yet another of their patented car-crashes.

The most photographed moment, of course, was Meg's very bad imitation of Islamic modesty while visiting a local mosque.

In Meg's hands, the usual dress code - long sleeves and high neckline, long dress or trousers, and covered hair - was tossed aside for a short-sleeved, open-neck dress beneath which Meg appeared to be wearing Kardashian-style butt pads.

She did wear a scarf over her head, but very loosely draped, with hair bursting out all over. As commenter Elle said yesterday, she looked like she was playing Mary Madgalene in a low-budget production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Perhaps since the hair isn't Meg's real hair - it seems to be some extentions or a wig - she thought it didn't count.

Rewear and Rewear and Rewear

Meg's doing a lot of rewearing of previous fashions on this trip, supposedly to make a point about being frugal and accessible in a country facing economic challenges. (Or isn't Africa good enough for her fanciest dresses? some commenters have asked.)

At any rate, a party at the British High Commissioner yesterday got a re-used beach dress, and one of Monday's outfits appeared to be a rewear as well. (Although it might have been a re-buy - Meg is a larger size now. No shade, it happens to almost all of us.)

It's hard to make an argument that one is now a very, very frugal person when one purchased a $14,000 Valentino negilgee-type garment for a party just last weekend, but perhaps Meg is trying anyway.

Archie, at least, appears to be the same size he was at his baptism in July. No doubt Meg is encouraging him to avoid growing in order to save money on childrens' clothes.

Prince Harry needs an intervention

Meanwhile, Prince Harry continued to disintegrate before our eyes. The sixth-in-line to the British throne told an 18-year-old African schoolboy that "he often woke up and felt overwhelmed by too many problems in the world. That sometimes it's hard to get out of bed in the mornings because of all the issues."

Harry has looked awful on this trip, crumpled and rumpled and lost. It seems likely he needs some kind of intervention, if he hasn't had one already.

It seems like it would be a good idea for him to be under the care of a mental health professional, and perhaps he is.

Mental health professionals often prescribe pharmaceuticals to help their patients cope with depression and other psychological difficulties.

However, these pharmacetuicals are less effective if the patient is self-medicating with alcohol, cocaine, Molly, or anything else he can get his hands on.

Day 3 of the trip

For Day 3 of the trip, the Sussexes will go in different directions, as Harry heads out to visit other African countries and Meg stays behind in South Africa.

First, however, a visit with Bishop Desmond Tutu is scheduled.

Could Archificial possibly be brought along for a blessing by the 87-year-old anti-apartheid campaigner?

If he was, that would answer the prayers of many people in the media, who are still using five-month-old images of Archificial's first presentation to the world to illustrate articles about the Sussex family.

Non-stop coverage? Where? In Britain the great Archie roll-out was briefly mentioned earlier in the day, but that aside there's been really nothing else. I suspect if you stopped people on the street in London, Manchester or Glasgow the vast majority wouldn't even be aware that there's a 'royal tour' going on at all. And if there's so little attention being paid in their own country, I doubt the rest of the world has 'non-stop' coverage of Haz twerking or Meghan telling people to sit on the floor.

It's difficult to see in that video because it goes by so fast. I thought that the Smart Work photo of her derriere better "shined a light" on the padding.
@Elle, lol 😂 love the visuals of a hoochi mama! Thank you for that. 😜
@Nelo, are you sure you’re not living in some other parallel universe? 🙄 I agree with LiverBird, I’ve had to go looking for news on the SA tour, far more pressing things are being reported on and are top of the agenda.

In Pakistan, Kate will have ample opportunities to wear hajib correctly and show up the Markle.

Ok, so we FINALLY got a fairly good look at a baby! I think he's adorable whoever he is, & wherever he came from. Don't see any red tufts, but he does look quite bit like the christening baby, & he looks healthy & well cared for, thank heaven. He seems smaller than the baby Gargantuas used in the polo & private plane pics. I thought Harry looked reasonably tidy & appropriately dressed, as did Megs. She even seemed to be wearing tights! I could accept that the baby shown today has Meg's DNA. He seems to have those slightly crossed eyes Megs has. Why his eyes look slightly Asian as well is puzzling, but whatever.
punkinseed said…
I just watched The Hawk (Craig) on youtube. I'm in tears. How terrible to have such carnage going on all over SA as the royals go prancing about like blind idiots. It makes Harry the Fool and Megs look like Baghdad Bob!
Louise said…
Elle: It might be the plastic clip used to secure hair extensions. (It is not the first time that these have been visible on her, although the last time I saw them they were securing a weave to the top of her head.)

You can see in the photo that the back of her hair on the right is full, while the left side is flat, mot likely from the extension falling down.

Fear of germs is legitimate since it's doubtful that Archie has had all the recommended vaccinations. 6 months is the youngest some can be given & 1 year for others. Of course, if he's past 6 months, as he looks to be, he might have had the most important ones after all. HM may not chuck a rock at the Dumbartons, but surely she'd have issues with them taking a Crown heir to a hot zone without his shots?

Tamhsn said…
Hi everyone! Finally we got to see the baby! He looks like a happy baby and looks more like Harry....BUT the eye area, to me that's Meghan! See, it's pretty simple...if they just showed us a proper picture at the time of Christening...doubts wouldn't occur. Anyways , I am just happy that there is a baby, happy and healthy.
Louise said…
Elle: There re no ruffles on that jumpsuit, which is very simple. The reason it looks overblown is because of the stilettos and gold dangling earrings, not exactly appropriate for meeting with moms and their kids.

She should have worn this to the reception last night and used last night's sundress for today.
Hikari said…
I'm not sure that Nelo isn't a sleeper agent for the Markle.

I am not adverse to praising the Dumbartons for something they do correctly. Until the debut of the Moonbump Tour last fall, I was rooting for them. But it's safe to say I don't trust a single thing she does or says any more. Her entire being is devoted to facade management, 24/7.

Meghan is 38 according to her most recent birthday. She may be into her 40s if you subscribe to that theory. The typical Instagram influencer is in her early- mid 20s. Meg is pathetically stuck in a post-adolescent mindset. It's kind of hilarious, since the target demographic she emulates and wants to 'influence' are 20 years younger than she and consider her an old slapper, if they consider her at all. She may as well be a hologram. There's no actual substance of a person in there . .just a stewpot of negative emotions and poses.
Hikari said…
I think Meghan has a decidedly Asian aspect to her face now that she's heavier, too. Apologies in advance to champion figure skater Michelle Kwan, but when Megs has the scraped back chignon and isn't wearing the fake teeth, she reminds me of Michelle. Their smiles from the side are exactly the same. Early on in the engagement period, she seemed to be channelling Pippa Middleton sometimes, and then there was the 'Julia Roberts look' during the fauxgancy. Since the TTC, her eyes look smaller and decidedly Asian and her face is fuller. The crossed eye effect reminds me of Lucy Liu, whose eyes are deeply tilted, so I think the cross eye is an optical illusion. On Megs it might be real.
HappyDays said…
Does anyone think that Archie is an IVF baby with Harry as the biological father and a donor egg and the embryo was implanted in Meghan?

Just a thought.
KnitWit said…
The polo baby looked bigger and longer in the legs to me.
KnitWit said…
That would be something....

On the vaccinations thing. It occurs to me that perhaps Megs is an anti-vaxxer, that's pretty big in Cali. One puzzle is, would the BRF allow a legitimate seventh in line heir fly to SA unvaccinated? Maybe they're anti-vaxxers as well! Who knows?
abbyh said…
She probably really is 38. She graduated in 2002.

https://archive.org/details/annualcommenceme2003nort/page/20

There is something amusing as thinking of her targets described as an old slapper (and if at all).
NeutralObserver said…
I think he looks 5-6 months old, which would actually jibe with the appearance of the christening baby, who looked about 4 months old,IMO. His little head was too stable to be a 2 month old baby. He looked as though he could sit upright very easily. This baby looks like the baby in the christening photo, IMO. Can't say about all of the others, they were too hidden. Poor Harry sounds so dim & earnest when he speaks. Megs was very brave to marry a man who seems to have so few intellectual gifts, as well as a volatile temperament,IMO. She must have been quite sure there would be other, compensatory aspects of her marriage. I think, however, anyone who goes into acting as a profession has a gambler's mentality.

Just in case they are reading and didn't think of it.... Want answers to this mystery.

Black clothes are common in NYC, but not evening clothes in the daytime.

Meg needs to wear colors other than black and white. She looked great in the bright blue dress, maybe a shirt in that color.
NeutralObserver said…
Please, Hikari, don't ruin Michelle Kwan for me! My daughter took ice skating lessons through grade school & highschool, we worshiped Michelle Kwan, who was wonderfully talented, as well as a very hard worker, unlike you know who!
Although to be fair, I do think that Megs is a pretty woman & was adorable as a baby & child. When the engagement was announced, pre-disillusionment, I thought there a good possibility Megs & Harry would have beautiful kids.
NeutralObserver said…
I read somewhere else that apparently Megs has some minor eye defect that should have been corrected in childhood, but apparently wasn't. It's barely noticeable, but might account for the staring look she seems to have in some photos.
abbyh said…
It is technically possible he was an IVF (a post elsewhere about SA being a leading edge in this - with a hint that they might have picked him up here which is why we saw dolls) but I have a hard time explaining some other "things" if it were true (probably not a complete list) for the idea she carried it:

I can't explain the sway from side to side in the bump video with her walking towards the camera. Baby bumps just don't do that.

With the implanting, the doctors want to follow you closely (you don't get the eggs dropped in and then you won't see anyone until the delivery - especially at her age). We do not really have doctors who have acknowledged working with her and the pregnancy. The whole announcement did not follow protocol. AND how the press was given the information after the fact. There was no need for them to lie (or was there?).

Delivery date: She was all over the map about when the baby was due and that was really odd. People know when they are do and even private people will give a rough timeline (months versus days and hours). And, due dates impact when doctors will or will not allow you to fly.

Boy versus Girl: At that far along, you know which (or someone does). It's not that easy to mistake a boy for a girl for the right colors at your baby shower.

Bouncing on heels: She never waddled but she was able to move about (quite quickly I might add) in an up and down position for a very long time - as if there was no hard mass of baby there or altering her center of gravity. If there were no other factors, I would write it off as quite in shape even when other in shape bodies don't do quite the same but ... the center of gravity shifts and there are too many other questionable things going on which remain unanswered.

The white dress right after birth? You are still drippy and leaky. White is not a safe color. Walking normal stride in heels is up there too but dress color was a jaw drop of why risk it? (and there was something off about her belly in those photos too).

I am sure others have comments but I don't think she carried this baby. I can admit when I am wrong (so I'm looking for an explanation then for the bump left right dance if I am (wrong) and the why lie to people questions).

Baby Archie looks like he has amblyopia, aka lazy eye, to me. Have you noticed that the eyelid over that eye seems to be more droopy than the other in one of the pictures?

Nelo, cable news is dying in the US. CNN is a the bottom of the heap. They can't even pull a million viewers in prime time in a country of over 325 million. The networks & cable news have increasingly been left with viewers in an undesirable to advertisers demographic, & it's hurting their bottom line, perhaps Megs & Hegs will appeal to that less affluent & sophisticated demographic, but a lot of them already appear to watch Fox.

Yes, the eye lid might droop, and in one of two the photos the iris of the left eye rolls into the corner, as does Meg's. A commenter on another blog said she had the same condition as a child, but her parents had it corrected. DK if she said it was amblyopia. He's still adorable. If he's Harry's baby surely the RF will give him any surgeries he might need.

I think Megs and Harry should be sensitive to the fact that poor dear old Dad/Grandfather Thomas Markle may go into a deep depression being treated the way he is by these two especially how he is being kept from his Grandchild. My friends hate the DM because of all the trashy photos, but their Brexit stuff is much more informative than what we get in places like the NYTimes, which is so globalist. They had to close comments on one article on immigration at only 63, because they were so negative. My kids haven't owned tvs since they went to college.

@Louise500, I try to help when I can lol, and I'm well-known for my intolerance with inappropriate dress esp when that outfit is hoochie-mama. I like to say that it's okay to be a slut, it's just not okay to dress like one. Unfortunately, for Rach, she was and she does. I've done too many events where AYFKM? was lodged in the thought bubble over my head, and I couldn't always hide my RBF. As for Charro, she must be the original hoochie. They come in all colors, shapes, sizes, and ages. The defining characteristic that binds that sisterhood is slutty desperation.

There's another slang term in Boston for the moms who have kids and are still squeezing into the FMPs and tight jeans, smelling of wine, cigarettes and perfume. Wish I could remember.

Elle, went to Prince Harry & Me, poor little Archie might looks as though he could be a victim of 'shaken baby syndrome' if he's unfortunate enough to actually be living with Megs. She's shaking the poor little thing as though she's at the tables in that casino in Reno you mentioned. (Hilarious, by the way). There's a photo on PH&M of her rear view in the mosque dress. There's no way that's all hers, not even at her new size! What is she thinking? Is she reaching out to the curvier demo? Much of Oprah's appeal seems to have been based on her 'relatable' persona because of her weight issues.

Yeah, I would imagine that old Rach has shaken some tables at Reno casinos (I'm not a LV fan, but if you've ever been to Reno, it's the bad trailer park, if you know what I mean). The nice thing about Oprah is that I've never had to see her coochie and I like it that way. With Rach, I feel like we may only be a day away in her pathetic, grasping quest to break the internet. Funny how privacy flew out the window and now they're just throwing anything out for follows and attention (soul-sucking, look-at-me-look-at-me, gotta-have-it attention) and they are still sitting at 9.5 M followers and she just used her one last card. Bye, Felicia, girl bye! But on the upside, she might be able to get a job with the Queen (Beyonce) who had the good common sense to head off that trash soon as she saw it.
Anonymous said…
Kate, yes, but Rach, lololohellno. For one thing, well, you know, but for the other thing, well.... I'll be delicate here. The other day the DM had a Markle is an Attention Ho story and right next to it, they have a "vaginal steaming" story. I'm fairly sure you follow me here.

And @Hikari, it's hyenas, not alligators. Hyenas eat their own siblings. These are not happy families.

I find it ironic that Meghan consented to wearing a scarf and a potato sack to the mosque. Just the other day, the papers were saying H&M were “tearing up the rulebook” for this tour.

I can’t think of a better place for this world-changing rule breaker to flip the feminist finger at male domination than at the mosque by showing up in one of her sausage casing mini dresses similar to maternity wear.

Oh, so that would be disrespectful to their protocols and traditions? Well, she has no problem doing it to a thousand-year old monarchy, HM and the citizens of the UK. I guess playing the the Me Too card or the r card wouldn’t work for her at the mosque, would they?
punkinseed said…
It's being discussed elsewhere that Megs is not recycling her outfits; same outfits but has to be in larger sizes.
Also a lot of people are calling Ellen a liar for telling porky pies about feeding Archie during her visit and the biggest porky of all, the "tufts of red hair" comments she made.
I feel for the Brits who are deeply hurt that their Harry and his wife would reveal Archie to the people of SA before showing him off first in Great Britain. That is a huge slap in the face, and most all of the commenters in DM and other sites are furious at these ingrates for making such a deliberate insult to them. That act alone was highly offensive.
Adding to this, there is a lot of empathy for Thomas Markle about this as well. His little grandson gets seen by Archbishop Tutu, but can't be allowed to see him. This is a shameful disaster all around. I expect the folks back home in Britain will turn their backs literally on the Sussexs when they return.
I predict that eventually the hard working taxpayers' reckoning is coming. They will be fed up enough to go where the buck stops and demand the queen put an end to the Sussex Royal "brand" at the very least if she hasn't begun to quietly already. If the queen and Charles don't act soon, the people will lay the blame at their feet. It does appear to be leaning in that direction as BP has removed Harry and Meghan's names from their site according to Celt News on YouTube today. It's also suggested that Charles has cut the Sussex's funding.
Anonymous said…
I'll have to listen to Celt News. It's interesting that her big ploy/play both failed to go down as planned and then blew back in her face. That's probably not a first for Rach, though.

Poor Archie.

It's bad enough when a child is exploited, but it's heinous when its own parents are the ones responsible for the exploitation. Shame on you both, Harry and Rachel, shame on you.

I'm with @Hikari on this one, too, in a big way. She wore it best:

"What I see when I look at William and Kate is a strong team. William is always supportive of his wife in public and furthermore they seem to truly enjoy one another's company after nearly 18 years as a couple. I don't think it's for show, either. The Sussexes couldn't even sustain the charade of their love match happy happy life for even 5 months, so what Kate and William have together is quite special."

I will also add that Kate is an inspiration with her quiet, calm dignity. IDK how she does it, but I so look forward to their tour after this spectacle/debacle.
Anonymous said…
I just want to say one extra thing about those "world's problems" -- I have a friend who suffers from depression, wonderful guy, sensitive, and I guess transference is a thing that happens to some people who are depressed. The root issues are too difficult, so they transfer the problem to something else (like a global issue, for example). So, IDK, I don't have that particular issue, but maybe something to consider.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...
