The Sussexes have left the building: What now?

After yesterday's hostility-fest at the Commonwealth Day services at Westminster Abbey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have completed their activities as senior members of the British Royal Family.

Some reports suggest that they have already left for Canada, where their infant son Archie has been waiting for them for more than a week.

It seems impossible, however, that this is the end of the Sussex story - and in fact, they will still officially be His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness until the end of March.

What do you think will happen during the next three weeks? Will the Sussexes be silent?

Wild Boar,

>>>Mel Gibson, an Aussie, for example, has a such a big grudge against England that he's happy to distort history and paint us as black as he can in his `historical' films (I'm thinking of `Braveheart', which helped to sour many north of the Border against us, and also `The Patriot', although I don't know if that affected thinking in the US).<<<

Mel is decidedly unpopular in Hollywood due to his extremely conservative politics. His father, Hutton Gibson, was a real piece of work, and his boys are something of the fruit of the poison tree vis. some of their attitudes. Mel's had colorful, extremely damaging episodes of insulting female police officers with sexist, anti-Semitic remarks while being arrested for drunk driving, and there was the ugly case involving charges of domestic violence against his baby mama. Mel was really raked over the coals for both, and continues to be. He is an alcoholic, with issues of rage; I don't like what he did in either case, though in the case of his estranged ex Oksana Grigorieva, it's pretty plain that he was in the grips of a woman who is very much like Meghan, with all the same games. He gets my compassion for that. I will only observe that he's the wrong flavor for Hollywood . . if Jay-Z or George Clooney got embroiled in the same incidents, the woke media would have been so much more forgiving and minimized it or made it go away entirely. Jodie Foster was the only woke friend willing to stand by Mel, and she wasn't enough to mitigate the deluge of anti-Gibson sentiment.

Mel's done many things that made me wish that he was Australia's to shift the responsibility to, but he's an American, born in New York and raised in Los Angeles until the age of 12, at which point Hutton moved the family to Australia to better practice his fringey views. Mel spent his adolescence and young adulthood Down Under and effortlessly adopted the coloration of a native Australian. The accent has reverted back to American for many years now. His 'Braveheart' was a project dear to his heart due to some Scots ancestry, I believe. Mel would consider himself an uber-patriot for the U.S., and 'The Patriot' is his version of real-life Southern Revolutionary guerrilla fighter of the, Francis 'Swamp Fox' Marion . . .told with dramatic license. Both films are joined by the common theme of an oppressed colonial people making a bid for the right to rule themselves which was bloody and tragic in both cases, and the adversary in both was England . .but England *then*. I don't think Mr. Gibson would view the current British royals as headed by the Queen as enemies. He's got no beef with Her Majesty.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. What you write suggest you are a strong person, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

A blog community like this is great, because we are trying to be objective, however difficult it may be in case of Meghan Markle and Harry Windsor.

Dare I suggest you post more often? It may help you to distract your attention from things you have to deal with. And it is a great feeling when people in different countries, with different cultures, share your point of view.

Stay strong, hug you.

Don't ever change your avatar. We Must Remember Meg when she was a "Royal"

>>>It occurs to me that Megs recent "stylish" assault, aside from revenge dressing, may be advertising. She is shopping for her billionaire and wants some pics out there where she looks good.<<<

I can't speak for the myriad global billionaires who are salivating to be Mr. Markle #4 and shower their billions on a three-times divorced (wait, it will happen) aging good time girl who's quit or failed every other relationship or job she's ever had. Men at that echelon who desire a trophy wife will pick a 25-year-old Playmate. Meg is the kind of trophy one gets at the dollar store--spray painted plastic that the shiny rubs off on the minute you actually touch it--I doubt they think she looks good. I personally haven't seen any photos from the recent tour where 'good' was an adjective I'd use. 'Better than a tent refugee', maybe . . and then she trots out the rotten pumpkin burka garment with her hair wild like she's been living in a tent camp on the border of Afghanistan.

>>>Harry is not shaping up to be a good provider of the lifestyle she is owed. Why make money herself when there are so many men out there dying to take care of her?<<<

So she thinks. In Meg's mind, it's always 2004 . . "Sex and the City" is still on the air, and she's perpetually the 25-year-old 'Hot Chick' (or 29, depending on which source you believe.)

I would say let the left press bent to Megsy and Harry and publish as many syrupy articles as possible, as many zoomed frames of her teary face as possible.

Brits have a great BS antennae and such sycophantic drooling normally has exactly the opposite effect; it happened with Brexit, general elections, Greta and other things.

The more they push their "Meghan is victim of racism" agenda the more average John Smith and Meggy Smith will say "bullshit, it is all self inflicted".

Somebody very astute once said Brits will forgive many things but never ever they will forgive hypocrisy. Amen.

@Cookie,

<<I read somewhere (wish I could remember) that celebs/narcs often suffer from "freezing" at the age where they become famous. Socially and psychologically they are "stuck" at that age.<<

I believe this is definitely common amongst people who become child stars. Witness all the psychological drama and self-harming of the Disney starlets: Britney, Cristina, Selena, Demi . .Amanda Bynes, who was a Nickelodeon star, and who's had numerous psych commitments, just like Brit . Lindsay Lohan . . the boys don't fare much better as a group.

But Meggy didn't become 'famous' until the age of 35 (she says) when she got engaged to Harry. When she was 14 - 16 years of age, which is the age I put her maturational level, along with Hazza's, she was attending Catholic girls' school and eating her heart out with envy over the rich girls.
@fairycrocodile thanks very much for your kind words, I’m obviously quite scared right now but trying to be resilient. Will be posting more!

@Hikari

I have heard from mental health professionals that people who are chemical substance abusers are emotionally "frozen" at the age they first started (ab)using. Maybe that is what is going on with Rach and JH, their childish behavior and lack of emotional maturity.

Lt. Uhura and WBBM, I'm sticking with the outlier DM poster, MajTomiK, who claimed, appropos of nothing, that MM's British visa had been cancelled and wouldn't be renewed. I hadn't heard anything of a 6-month Canadian visa, but that would make sense given they've already floated the idea of spending the summer in California. If this happens -- they go from Canada to LA -- this is further proof in my mind that she's lost her British visa. It contradicts her narrative of course of having to flee Britain because of the racism directed at her, but it doesn't contradict that one dissonant DM commenter.

I realize that there is an awful lot of stuff out there that is not necessarily true but I just read that there are pictures (I haven't seen them) of Harry with human bite marks on his hand. Could this be the person that Camilla knows and alluded to in her speech, that has suffered domestic violence? Also, is this why MM posted pictures on their Insta page concurrently with Camilla's speech? Interesting thought.

Jan Moir - `Pravda' - Brilliant!

We knew the names of 2 newspapers in the days of the USSR (the only 2?): Pravda (= Truth) and Izvestia (= News). The teacher of Russian at the first school I worked at used to say that there was a saying `In Truth there is no news and in News there is no truth'.
How true.

KCM1212: Fingers crossed that she's locked out of the country.

The upcoming news?

This could be a convenient time to announce a regency - HM is 94 in a little over 5 weeks time and surely deserves a break. Presumably, it could be done very smoothly, no fuss, especially with the breathing space offered by the postponement of engagements.

PoW (aka Prince C, Dk of Cornwall) would take on the work, HM would still be Queen, Camilla could try out the role of Prince Regent's consort (to see how the country takes to her - there are many Diana devotees who still resent her, to put it mildly), Wm as Dk of Cornwall...

Also, Covid 19 might take some of the attention away from yet another reprise of the role of Diana.

No mention of H & Smirkles - H under the care of medical professionals, as at The Priory. (DV)

I'll be watching the late news, prepared to be disappointed

Princess Mrs. B,

I really don't think Harry has ever been a victim of DV. And if in some universe he had, Camilla wouldn't be using his pictures or his experience in one of her speeches. The stare-down between Camilla and MM in the church was assuredly because of the latter's stealing Camilla's thunder by arranging to have pictures released on the same day as her speech. Because Megs cares so much about women's issues, dontcha know.

But, in all seriousness, Camilla and her previous husband were very socially prominent, in no small way because of her relationship with PC and his with Princess Anne, and they were wealthy and prominent at court. Whoever her friends were who were being beaten, they were probably wealthy and socially prominent as well. She had an important message to get out: that DV happens across socioeconomic classes.

It's probably a sign that Meghan's global reputation is starting to decline.

But Really, Could they?

Richard Eden has an interesting article in the DM which references an article in The Guardian about the necessity of the passport applications for the kids as including HRH and the last name of Sussex. Why?  Well supposedly this is all because they want to allow the kids to decide for themselves to become a working royal or continue to stay in private life. The main focus becomes how this bewilders the Palace considering how difficult the parents found it all and then left.  As well has his thoughts that this is about maintaining royal aura ("links" is his term) before ending with how a push for the daughter might be as the American Princess might be helpful to her mommy's business. What I wonder about is:  What or where did they get the idea that the kids would be welcomed into the fold and become working royal? I am not convinced that was ever an option once they stepped back. America doesn't do British history quite the same way or to the same detail.  Manne...

Cliff Hanger

Deadlines for responses have passed.  Will they show?  Won't they show?   And, rumors of demands for money to cross hands to make appearances (new level of pay to play). Such drama.  You would think this was a soap opera where every episode ends with a crazy cliff hanger story plot to drive the next installment.  Sadly, I don't expect it to change any time soon either.  No.  For them, there appears to be way too much energy left in the will they, won't they to end it now even though everyone else is pretty much tired of it.  Hardly something one can point to and claim that they are trying to reconcile with those who feel distressed about what was printed. Just noticed something: remember that talk of trying to reach out and reconcile after the book, etc.?  It seems to have drifted away, hasn't it?  Hmm.  Interesting.  I wonder if that is recognized as a total lost cause or just delayed into the summer (or fall) campaign (c...

New Year (and what's next?)

Another year and what will it bring for them (and us who watch)?   One thing I thought of is control of their image for appearances.  It isn't just that they have lost so many people in such a fairly short time period but who they lost.  The people who advised, handled details to make the events happen - road trips to volunteering.  We've been saying all along that each loss is a ripple of warning towards a potential new hire coming in.  New hires, yes but what about fund raising?  Cash flow?  This, from SMM, is an interesting read: https://www.reddit.com/r/SaintMeghanMarkle/comments/1puzsvh/impact_report_990_review_from_a_nonprofit/ Which leads us to money.  Keeping their image engine running costs a lot.  No doubt there are a lot details, paperwork, contracts to negotiate and find new groups to partner with.  Hence the need for a good team. The duo could do some of it or all but for how long?   side note: the peopl...
