A poll: Options for the Nutty Blog going forward

It's no secret to regular readers of the blog that we're dealing with some regular posters who are very unpleasant. In particular, they target popular commenters with the goal of making them miserable and driving them away.

My suspicion is that these posters are paid, and that their real goal is to get rid of me and the blog itself.

Social media nitwits have long been part of Meg's PR budget; who can forget her clueless supporters on the DM comment boards? And Meg and her sugars have "outed" or gone after other bloggers who displeased her.

Alternately, we could be talking about a single troubled person who gets their jollies out of creating multiple personalities and arguing with themselves. Whatever it is, it's unwelcome and annoying, and we need to take action.

Anyway, I've identified a few possible approaches, with upsides and downsides.

Here they are:

Move to a Wordpress Blog

The positives: We can have several moderators, which is not possible for a Google Blogger Account. This would allow someone to moderate during the hours when I am asleep, roughly 10pm-6am Estonian time, which is when the mischief seems to happen.

The negatives: Everyone would have to take a few moments to create a Wordpress profile if they don't already have one. Also, Wordpress shows me your IP which can indicate your general location - unless you use a VPN - plus whatever email address you have set up to comment.

I personally don't care about your email or your location, but if big corporate websites can get hacked, I suppose a small Wordpress site could as well.

Also, this solution would have to wait until I have time to fully implement it.

Add Disqus to this Blog

Enty has recently switched to Disqus commenting system on his Google Blog, which allows him to ban users and IPs.

The positives: Can be implemented today. Allows for nested comments, which is something many Nutties have wanted for a long time, plus GIFS - not sure if that is a positive or a negative!

The negatives: Again, you will have to create an account, and Disqus exposes your email and IP address to me unless you use a VPN. (I suppose our troublesome poster could use a VPN and come up with a lot of nonsense postings from mulitple IPs, defeating the purpose)

I don't go to CDAN much any more - has Disqus worked well for Enty?

Continue without changes

Google Blogger allows for excellent privacy protection, and it is truly open to all. I see nothing but your screen name; I have no access to your email address or IP.

Personally, I rather like it that way - should someone get uncovered, I can say with full confidence that I had nothing to do with it!

Unfortunately, that wonderful openness has resulted in abuse. Some dullard seems to think it's fun to make me waste my time deleting multiple idiotic comments, multiple times per day.

What do you think the best way forward could be? I'll leave this poll open until late Monday to get everyone's input, and I'm also open to separate suggestions.

If your buttons don't work, here's a direct link to the poll.

Although bloggers do come and go, I just want to make it clear that Elle did leave because of CatEyes and she very distinctly said so. Her posts saying this was the case are gone now, but I'm sure others read them as well.

She stated numerous times how difficult it was for her being stalked here as she tried unsuccessfully to find ways to post around the feline one. She tried posting only when Nutty was available to moderate and she tried totally ignoring CE. But nothing worked and I believe the last straw for her was when CatEyes posted a thread on Lipst*ck All*y disparaging Elle, Nutty and this blog. IMO Elle was very much forced to leave here. And I, like many others miss her posts.

All true about Elle and how our resident loony Cat drove her away. File this under Elle=Sensitive while Cats=blundering crude.

Elle was amazing in January - February with her extended musings

Everyone who complains about the comments surrounding me here should of kept their mouth shut about me and I would not have commented back. Too bad you wasted space when you could of researched the pros and cons of the different formats but you rather discuss me. How boring really. I am even bored about as much as I am bored with the constant rehashing of :wet diapers" and Meg's "green dress"!!

We have 'xxxx' to thank for urging Nutty to switch to WordPress which he conveniently set up a trial blog but not before provoking a continual harassment of me for many weeks even months at different times. And you others that joined in also bear responsibility. Just like a poster says, I go to post a normal comment on the topic and out jumps the resident bullies taking turns. get a life. 'xxxx' wants to distract me from my livestock and caring for my disabled elderly brother with 'xxxxx' constant whinging for attention from me (indeed INHO I think 'xxxx' is jealous of ny farm life because he is so fixated on it!.

@fairycrocodile please don’t put yourself in the “other category” from “Seasoned Nutties”. You are one of the reasons I enjoy reading, aside from Nutty. I may not always agree 100% but your comments are well informed and thought out and contribute greatly to the discussion, which I 100% love. You are an OG poster to me.
@nutty - I voted for Disqus not bc I like it but it’s perfectly tolerable and saves you some work. I’m so appreciative for both what you do and the way you do it, far be it from me to dictate more work for you because of minor preference. You do what You think is best, law of diminishing returns applied.
Funny story - I thought your living in Estonia was a ruse, hehe. I see that’s actually true. How amazing!!

I vote for Wordpress or moderation when nutty is sleeping with no comments posted that came in while moderation is on.

That way nutty won’t have to go through posts and post them.

Moderation on equals, blog off.

Moderation off, blog on.

If people post while moderation is on, post is trashed. Repost when moderation is off.

Might be a temporary fix. All the stupidity happens when Nutty is sleeping.

@tatty

Oh tatty do you remember when you were so overwrought about needing people "to tell you when you weren't being kind or words to that effect and you told us you had to be excused for your bad behavior on (how did you describe it...like on the higher functioning end of autism Or was that what someone accused you of being. Yet you proclaimed how you were smarter than another poster and in quick succession You Exclaimed you "knew I was taking hard drugs" etc... People were up in arms for a long tome for your really Dramatic stuff.

Posters were demanding Nutty do something about you! Some threatened to leave, so you created the drama for sure (but see I don't accuse people of taking drugs etc...; I am too smart to libel people like that) I finally demanded an apology from you for all the horrible things you said that were libelous and You finally saw the light and gave me one about what about 8 months ago or so.. I was gracious and accepted it just to make things go smoother and most importantly because it was the Christian thing to do.. But if you think I am overwrought well someone just in the last day was mentioning the problems you caused while I said something quite nice about you. Hmmmmmmmm note to self (maybe I was oremature).
Mango said…
I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had a chance to read or post here in a few weeks. I also seem to have missed all the drama. I keep reading about it but have never actually seen it in action but I’m kinda tickled at the possibility that the Marvelous Ms. Markle might be behind it. (Am I allowed to ask the screen names of these troublemakers, or do they just pop in anonymously, give the pot a vigorous stir and then leave?)

Nutty, I like the current format but do whatever you need to do to make it work. As long there aren’t a lot of flickering, annoying ads I don’t mind which route you take. I literally get sensory overload from the DM and CDaN, especially with the new format, but I’m not adverse to you making some coin from your blog. You put in a lot of work and effort on it and I for one do appreciate it.

I tried to do a search for the thread where there was a discussion about appointing a second admin to the blog. Unfortunately I couldn't find the exact discussion, although I do recall people nominating Elle. Since the majority of the voters seem to be in favor of staying here and scrolling on by, another solution @Nutty might be to appoint someone you trust to admin with you. It's easy enough to do, I had a blogger page awhile ago and I had a writing partner I appointed as an author to the page. But in one easy click I could have also made her an admin. The upside of having a second admin is s/he could keep an eye on the blog during certain agreed upon times. The downside is they could very well remove Nutty from her own blog.
From Google:
Author
Add and edit their own posts
Administrator
Add or remove other administrators and authors
Change the blog's settings or template
Edit or delete any posts
Blogs must have at least one administrator.

If you want to make someone an administrator, go to the menu next to their name and select Admin.

Note: If you make someone an administrator, you give them the right to remove you from your blog.

For all the verbosity of the multitude of posters I have yet to see one single poster brave and intelligent enough to ask why isn't the Goggle terms of Service aren't being followed here?

I guess I am the only one to see that is the easiest, quickest and most logical solution for this blogspot (a Google blogspot btw).
Not a single person here has the temerity to ask why isn't the problem most all of ya'll bitching about is not being solved by the very platform Nutty is using. Guess this is a case of the Emperor having no clothes.

In one fell swoop Nutty could use the very tool at her disposal, the Terms of Service to stop the problems of abuse *cyberbullying), disruption. hate speech and violent speech (eg. one poster repeated saying she wants to smash people's faces in even fellow posters)
ElfSelf said…
@unknown I too was feeling discouraged. I think a lot of nice people have been driven away from the blog, particularly because they were targeted. It's hard to just keep scrolling in that case :(

I did read that @xxxxx said I think this can be done with Blogger if Nutty prefers this format>>>>
Establish a new GMail account that you don't mind someone else using. Shift ownership of this blog to this new GMail account. Give someone in the US access to this GMail account. Then this someone will be able to co-administer this blog and delete Cats who is 95% of the disruptions. She also poses as an Unknown, though not that often.

I think that is a very good idea (just took me awhile to recall how I did it on my own blog. :)

@xxxx

I am going to ignore your comment because I feel sorry for you because you act like a jealous little person who is always commenting on my possessions. If you get off the blog and earned some money maybe you would be happier with yourself. I suspect that you are also jealous of my education and my looks. Not much maybe you can do about that but try to be happy with yourself and then you won't be fixated on me.

God Bless You and may the Holy Spirit dwell within you and give you grace!
Has anyone analysed/compared the disruption here with that on the virus blog? To me, they look very similar.

This suggests the reassuring thought that perhaps MM and her flying monkeys are not behind the disruption we are experiencing here. Why attack the virus blog first? Wouldn't MM go for the jugular and focus on taking down this blog?

So I'm feeling happier about staying here, although ultimately it's Nutty's decision.

From where I'm standing, what goes on here looks very much like six of one, half-dozen the other. Also, abusive language, focused on real or alleged mental illness, is as much hate speech as anything about race or religion.

Could we have several competing narcissists at work here? Just askin'.
CatEyes said…
@Unknown

You make the unintelligent mistake of misquoting me again. Of course I enjoy many of the poster's comments...that's why I stay!!!

I don't commit hate speech, violent speech, etc (afterall people are initiating comments with me just as you did when I told you not too). I warned the abusers they were harming me and upsetting me hence why I react so that is typical of a victim. It sounds like you would prefer a cyberbullied victim to roll over and die or commit suicide instead of telling the abuser to "Leave me Alone" as I have done to you a multitude of times. Again "LEAVE ME ALONE" and I don't care which 'Unknown' you are...you are bothering me Now!

G9od Bless You and may the Holy Spirit dwell within you now and forever. Amen.

I suppose the word ;Battle-Maid' means something to you, well likewise I am a battle-maid in protecting myself and have also stood up defending others, Its in my character. From about a year and 3/4 ago I used to post funny things and interesting incisive opinions and commentary until Elle got miffed at my posting legal stuff based on my experience. I wont belabor the point but I won't be run off by her fans.

I despise how these people are focusing on me. I want the conversation to be on the topics although admittedly it has gotten a bit boring lately with the HAMS. I am ashamed to admit this but I wish the BRF would deal swiftly and completely with the HAMS and they get their just deserts so to speak.

When the H&M engagement was announced, I initially hoped that all would turn out well. perhaps she was the right woman for him? As less-than-complimentary snippets about her leaked out, I still hoped that, despite my misgivings, the marriage would turn out well.

It wasn't long, though, before I expected MM to clear off back to the US but I tried to still give her the benefit of the doubt, hoping she'd `settle down'. Her trying to steal Eugenie's thunder was the last straw for me.

What I didn't expect was that she'd take H with her and also, apparently, a baby. I'd assumed she was in it just for the publicity and a settlement and that this would be enough for her to be employed as a box-office certainty, pulling in the crowds.

I hadn't, however, imagined her as a wannabe usurper, fighting tooth and nail for a higher place in the succession, with a view, presumably, to taking the highest position of all, as the power behind Harry's throne. Almost incredible, as if we'd suddenly found ourselves back in the Middle Ages in the sort of power struggle familiar from Shakespeare's history plays. (I can't remember where I read it but it has been said that H sees himself as Hamlet, hence his emotional connection with `The Lion King'.)

Usurpation, treason, pretender - terms I thought had been confined to history.

Btw, speaking of history,my handle is what one of my names means in its original form, long ago. This one situation where it seems appropriate.
Correction last para - insert `is'.

Deletion is because I pressed `publish' too soon, instead of `preview'.

I should have added in my previous post that narcissists victimise people.

They are also past masters at makings their victims look like the aggressor, rather like the hypothetical sign in a zoo:

`This animal is dangerous - when attacked it defends itself'.

Sticking up for one's self doesn't work - they've already manipulated the situation to put you in the wrong, so it looks as if you're equally to blame.

There is said to be a useful, sure-fire, instant test for a narcissist - I can't remember which site was on but it matched my experience:

If somebody is being mean to you, ask them to stop and watch what happens.

A reasonable person will offer some sort of apology.

A narcissist will explode with self-righteous indignation, self-justification and a torrent of abuse, tearing apart your character apart, telling you what a low-down horrible person you are. In short, they go apeshit.

They are not reasonable people. They have no self-awareness - their narcissism blinds them to their behaviour. Apology? forget it. A narcissist would die rather than do or say anything that could imply that they accept they may overstepped the mark.

One then has choice, continue the row or step back.
If opting for no further confrontation, one has the choice of applying Grey Rock or going No Contact -difficult in this situation if one wishes to continue posting. Would Grey Rock work?

For example :https://www.healthline.com/health/grey-rock

I doubt if any narcissists reading this will recognise themselves. I shall just laugh at anyone who reacts violently this post.

Nutty, do whatever is easiest and best for you to make your life simpler and not waste your time having to delete a bunch of posts every day. I'm in agreement with the concept of paid persons being sent here to disrupt the blog so as to help Rachel with her PR efforts.

I haven't posted here in weeks, not because of any disagreements on the blog but because as the Harkles lose relevance (which is happening quickly) I find it harder to maintain interest. But I still scroll through your blog and LSA to get the latest info, I just don't make many comments any longer.

As the Harkles continue their inevitable downward trajectory into meaninglessness, I expect that their PR will become increasingly desperate and aggressive. And that could very well mean trying to infiltrate, disrupt and take down (if possible) as many 'unflattering' sites as possible. It's a common tactic, and as you pointed out, one that Team Harkle has engaged in previously.
Apologies for my typos etc, my phone likes to re-write and take over. :o/

Yes, the taunts aimed at Cat Eyes were unprovoked and frequently very nasty.

If one resorts to ad hominem* attacks it tells the world that one's argument (using that word in the academic sense) is very weak. It says far more about the person making the attack than it does about the victim - and what it says is just what horrible behaviour they are capable of.

In my book, any one who flings gratuitous insults, especially one's invoking someone's presumed mental state about which they know bugger all, is beneath contempt. Not of course that you would recognise yourselves.

Remember, when it comes to mental problems, there but for the Grace of God go we.

* Merriam Webster's definition: ) 1 : appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect an ad hominem argument. 2 : marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made.

Google also offers this:

Typically it refers to a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

When a discussion tends to be on the negative side, as this is a blog for those who dislike the Harkles, things can easily get out of hand. As a long time reader sometime commenter I see a lot of intolerance of different opinions and extreme jealousy of likable contributors. In the last post things were going pretty smoothly and objections and criticisms were dealt with aplomb. At times a few barbs seem to creep in but they were hardly anything more than petty personal political statements like "liberal luuvies" and such which are irksome, but do not matter in the scheme of things. So, a good discussion about mostly fashion, even the miscreants were going with the flow and then bam! It seemed very intentional to me that this person wanted to create conflict, absolutely intentional.
SMH
But then the way some of the "senior" contributors behave at times is pretty disgusting too. Hateful made up stuff about people (other than Meg and her crew) who most of the time don't deserve it and threats and name calling when the agitator is confronted. It just feels cliquish and unwelcoming at times and very unforgiving.
Jennifer Garner sends a thank-you note. Adele says hello. Tyler Perry and Foster provide housing. And voila become ridiculed and demonized. Why? I get all the contempt for Mulroney, but those other's just did a nice thing.

Because of time zones Nutty is asleep when I'm online which is too bad because she's why I come here and when she's engaged and commenting the discussion is intelligent and lively.

I'd like the format to stay as is but without political agendas, "unknowns" and non-names. A serious set of rules might encourage better behaviour. From what I witnessed in the last post it doesn't seem like the blog can survive if that sort of idiocy continues because it ruins the timbre of the blog.

The Duchess Kate and Mad About Meghan blogger heavily moderates and only allows slight criticism of Catherine. Meghan is off limits. The tumblr blogs have too many links and gifs though I do enjoy their love of Cambridge. The DM is horrid, so I was happy to read Harry Markle and find Nutty Flavor which at times is deliciously fun especially when Meghan is stirring up trouble, but it is often too mean-spirited to enjoy.

I hadn't thought of trolls as narcissists before but it's all about power.

Narcs see life as a greasy pole that they are always at risk of slipping down. To maintain or improve their `position' they have to by shove other people down. That's power.

If they envy you for something you have and they want but can't have, for example, they have to ruin it for you. That's power.

Not apologising and/or not taking advice would be an admission of weakness, therefore they can't do it. That's power.

if they do take advice, they mess it up so they feel justified in blaming the would-be helper. Power again.

Making a victim dance to their tune is another manifestation of power.
They probably get off on writing the abuse, like those anonymous letter-writers of old who used green ink for their poison-pen, or those who make dirty phone calls. They had to imagine the effect to get their thrills - and presumably desirable personal outcome - but here, if they succeed in `flaming' their victims, they can see the reaction online and will do it all the more.

Our most notorious child murderers said they'd done it `for kicks'. Presumably they got off on it. They also enjoyed the power of not revealing where the bodies were buried - the `we know something you don't know' power.

I bet trolling excites the perpetrators as surely as if they waylaid people in the street and flashed their private parts at them does. They want the victim to scream.

RE: comment on the article posted by Rebecca (thanks)

A lot of it was a rehash of prior articles blah blah this that she was always a Cali girl blah blah but then in part 4, it starts into how Hollywood is small parties, not the over the top neighbors upset images (so think restrained). The crowd they will be running with is all millionaires, private jets (think that will need serious money to keep up with that crew to be able to project the right image). GMA chatty women who are more her kind instead of Piers who criticized her. She's not happy, lonely, missing her old LA life (which I don't think she had lived there in years ?).

Note here: She also found the protocols and cautious pace of palace life increasingly frustrating, while courtiers — some of whom she feared were briefing against her — found her West Coast idiosyncrasies, such as sending dawn emails to staff, jarring. laying it down that she was afraid and that people might be conspiring against her. That's kind of odd -threats from whom and why would they want to undermine her ... one can wonder if something in her past triggers a response which she interpreted as a threat. Sounds like projection but I'm not degreed to make that label stick. Or where was JH when people could be doing something against her?

Rebecca Part 5

Part 5, the conspiracy continues so she self isolates at FC

...says one of her friends. “I think she felt like an outsider from the start. This wasn’t the life she was used to and she wanted out.” Wait a minute. She just started this new life, this is the family she never had and she feels unwanted?

After the SA "doc", William was the first reach out to her but it was too damaged at that point. (well, the snarky wonders if that was shade at not being on HM's speed dial but it also says something about how for someone who is all about speaking out, taking action . we aren't hearing that - we're hearing about that it was all other people not doing the desired actions when we don't even know if they knew that they were somehow supposed to be the one to initiate this action which didn't happen).

Another anonymous friend ... “One of the things she struggled with was not earning an income,” a friend says. “She has always worked and I think she felt unfulfilled. Having financial freedom was a big part of them wanting to leave.” Wait, she struggled with not having a job/place to show up every day to do the things the job description required? And didn't feel good that she was not "earning" the money she was given? side note: wonder what she thinks about all that money from PC which she does nothing for HM or him and pays to keep the roof overhead while they figure out their gameplan.

more of the usual, the offers are still expected to come rolling in but this is the first we hear she might drop the acting because the other big plans to follow a similar path like the Obamas would be too much.

Rebecca Part 6

Paps and how they made legal complaints over the walking the dogs photos and more dis-engagement about the British tabs (nothing about the food deliveries though).

yada yada yada and then note this last 2 paragraphs:

Across the pond, courtiers will no doubt be watching the couple’s progress, and those potentially lucrative commercial deals, with interest. They are not the only ones. The Queen has allowed the couple to keep Frogmore Cottage, and is hoping the family will return to Britain for Christmas.

Buckingham Palace has described the next 12 months as a transitional year to test the water. One palace insider says that the Prince of Wales was “adamant” that the agreement with the Sussexes should leave the door open for them to return should their new venture fail.

This is the first I think I heard that the BRF is officially allowing the idea for both of them to return.

@ Abbyh

If true she struggled not having income, this just shows she didn't take time to consider how her life would change. And although she didn't have income, that didn't prevent her from spending obscene amounts on clothing.

I don't believe for a second she missed working. She has spoken negatively about being a working actress in the past. I do think she missed the Tig and the attention that came with working on Suits.

In the past few days we have had stories about David Foster as a father figure, how MM recreated their second date with a tent, their anniversary celebration, and now leaks that it was Harry's idea to leave the RF, not hers.

This "she missed working" bit isn't believeable. I think she loves reading about herself in the press, good or bad.

Honestly I don't really care, I'm a fan of old school cool so this is working for me BUT - the nice thing about Disqus is it lets people reply directly to each other's comments in a nested format much like reddit, plus upvotes.

It is also the comment format that DListed uses, if anyone wants to see it with a white background. CDAN only recently switched to Disqus a couple weeks ago. Honestly I think it's been good for our community there because we can yell at each other directly haha but I'm cool either way.

As much as mm said she was prepared for royal life, I don't think she cared what it was like because she had no intention of fitting in.

She thought that she could waltz in there and do whatever she wanted, cuz she was gonna be queen. I mean, like, she had all the 'likes' on Instagram, way more than boring W/C and that shrunken old lady doddering around.

She seriously misjudged how beloved the Queen was, and her own misbehavior caused W/C to all of a sudden seem like a pretty good deal.

Much to her surprise, it has been W/C who have modernised the monarchy.

They're the ones using Zoom in a professional yet relatable way. Their videos are well done and don't look like hostage videos. They don't hide their kids. They both radiate confidence, comfortable in their own skin. They're not trying to be somebody they're not. They come across as genuine and authentic.

As a sometime poster, I think the best solution is to delete any comment that is, to paraphrase the US. Supreme Court “You know nastiness and name calling when you read it.” Frankly, I think a commenter calling another commenter a “nitwit” is grounds for the comment to be pulled. Name calling should be verboten. Arguing with another person should be banned. I have disagreed with a commenter, but I have no right to call the commenter stupid, racist, nasty, stalker, or anything else. I may not put down, or take over this blog for selfish, childish reasons. It is a privilege, not a right, for Nutty to allow my opinion on her blog, and we must respect Nutty. This blog has entertained me, enlightened me, educated me, and allowed me to express my own opinion about the HAMS. This is not a hate-the-HAMS blog, but one that allows honest, eye-opening opinions about the HAMS, and not a Sugar, non-reality, racism-is-why props that the HAMS beat and bleat about every day.

Please no attacks on each other. Do not engage if someone insults you. They are not worth any response. Let Nutty sort out the rotten apples in the barrel.

There have been multiple threats of legal action on the board and accusations of harassment. If such threats materialize in the U.S., it would be on a federal level, and as far as I know, federal law on harassment always requires a "notice." The person alleging harassment needs to tell the harasser to stop the behavior.

So, regrettably, for American posters who are being harassed on this blog, they do need to respond at least once and tell their harassers to stop.

I'm not an attorney, so I'll defer to others' more specific knowledge.

I have already stated among other things, I assumed this was one of those hostile places where you have to fight your way in. Nutty has only removed one of my posts as far as I know. I respect Nutty and her blog.

Also, fwiw, I think there is more than one person who is posting under a group of names. I feel like there are at least two groups doing this, possibly more.

Yes, some posters go out of their way to antagonize cat eyes. It doesn’t mean I’m “joining forces” with her because we can all see that. But if “juvenile rubber and glue anon” (my new name for that anon lol) continues to insist I am joining forces, I would like to be called “space force” pretty please 🤣

Yes, if someone throws my name down out of the blue (like glowworm did yesterday) from something I wrote in early 2019, yea, I might get a bit touchy. Seriously, move on and get yourself into the present. I’m not here that much anymore anyway. I don’t post every day. I went so long without posting that some people got worried about me. (Thank you again).

Like Vince said, there just isn’t much to talk about right now in HAMS world. I’m only here right now because I’m recovering from major surgery and after another maybe 3 weeks, I’ll probably bounce out again.

I also miss Elle and the other informative posters. I don’t always agree with people, but I love reading a well thought out post.

My thoughts this morning.

There are `minor' Royals who do work, some titled, some not:

-Duke of Gloucester was an architect, - I daresay he's retired now.
-Anne's children, Zara and Peter, don't have titles (not technically royal because their father was a commoner) and have to have business interests.
-Princess Alexandra married an aristocratic businessman, Angus Ogilvy.
-Both Andrew's daughters have jobs.
-Lord Linley, Margaret's son - furniture designer & maker, also was Chairman of Christie's

They attend family events but weren't `full-time working Royals'in the sense that H&M were expected to be, with full engagement diary and State support for what they do. .

Further more, any other work must be conducted in ways that must not present a conflict of interest with the Royal/national interest, or cause embarrassment. (That's the theory, anyway) I guess that this is where the Henrician-Markelian plan fell down - were they perceived as untrustworthy, unfit to run a whelk stall?

It's not easy to get right. Sophie Wessex slipped up at the start but has more than made up for it. Edward had a film company - I see the account of his getting it wrong years ago when W was at St Andrews has resurfaced today - who dug that up I wonder?

Edward certainly does engagements now. In 2016 he visited Elizabeth College at St Peter Port, on Guernsey, and traffic chaos ensue. We were in St PP and needed to get back to our hotel in St Martin's, for the airport taxi. Almost too late, we found the buses weren't running and we had to hotfoot it in a panic. We did make it in time but I wasn't very pleased!.

It's like the Grand Old Duke Of York, Frederick Augustus:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Frederick,_Duke_of_York_and_Albany

`When he was only halfway up, he was neither up nor down'- There is no halfway position - it's Up or down, In or Out.

I can't think there's any precedent for what the Harkles wanted - `none of the kicks but all the ha'pence'.

I tried Googling that phrase and had to smile - what came up was a comic novel by a former judge Henry Cecil, with a quote from a felon:

`... it hasn't turned out that way. I don't like work, you see. I want all the ha'pence and none of the kicks.'

Prince Harry/David Foster New Father Figureh

Reading this article this morning made me sad for Prince Charles and the Queen. So David Foster is now Hapless' new father figure? What a pathetic excuse for a man on his 5th marriage still trying to stay relevant. Maybe Foster and McPhee should fund Prince Man-Child and his thirsty wife Markzilla since they clearly don't' appreciate what monies they receive from Prince Charles.
And of course, MM will cling to the title, the HRH and being `royal'to her last breath.
Grisham said…
In terms of HAMS, my prediction is they will couch surf for another year, another baby, and then they will go back to England and hunker down and sponge off Charles and stay low and not do anything like Andrew. I predict Harry’s friends and family will come around and make MM feel more comfortable because they are worried about Harry (they will tolerate her as long as she is around).

I just don’t see life abroad working out for them. They can live in England and vacation in Africa. MM won’t be able to work because of the tax situation. Maybe they will take Charles up on his farm near Wales... though I don’t think MM would be thrilled with that.
SwampWoman said…
@ElfSelf, it looks to me as though they are deliberately turning the knife that is firmly stuck in Prince Charles' back. When they call asking why the money hasn't been deposited, I'd tell 'em to go ask their father figure. But that's just me.

Who needs a father figure when they're that age, anyway? I could understand it if a teenager. Guess that is just the way to explain the begging for money and tossing out an allowance relationship.

Hello Nutties,

I have been perusing this blog for almost a year (oh boy....sigh) and love it. I rarely post because that would draw me in further and I waste enough time already LOL.

I also like discussions with people who disagree with me, and after much practice have learned not to take things personally. It is a difficult thing to do, but a necessary skill to learn in this day and age.

I researched Google's TOS for Blogger as someone suggested, and learned the following:

1) They do not mediate disputes.
2) They do not remove content that involves insults of negative commentary (this is under the "Hate Speech" heading
3) Though they state that they do not tolerate harassment or bullying, there are no specifics under this heading.
4) They also request you report a blog only ONCE. Then they list the actions which may be taken.

I am assuming due to the level of acrimony that this blog has been reported at least once. Therefore, if the posts have actually legally qualified as an issue under the TOS, then it is very likely that action has already been taken; in other words, @Nutty might have already received direction from Google etc.

Again, assuming that this blog has been reported, and is obviously continuing, repeated threats of legal action could qualify themselves as harassment.

Google is not going to solve people's personal problems. If we post here, we are essentially opening ourselves up to dialogue and discussion -- therefore telling specific people to "leave you alone" will not work.

I vote for whatever option allows Nutty to remain in charge of her blog, while either hiring/asking assistant admins/moderators to help. That way she can continue this as her hobby while still allowing this blog to be the wonderful space that it was meant to be. There will be always ongoing problems when either newbies join and situations arise, and/or those with fixations alter or hide their ISPS.

All best, and may this blog continue to successfully eviscerate the Harkle cray cray!!!

Right now, Harry can say “my grandmother the queen.”

I suspect Harry will enjoy saying, “my father the King” and megs will enjoy saying “my father-in-law the King”.... so that might be a condolence prize they are willing to live with. (Before Harry has to say, “my brother the King”, which I don’t think he will like...

Don’t get me wrong, I suspect he likes saying his grandmother is the queen, but since I think he wants to be both a prince and not have to do formal occasions, he will prefer it more to be able to say he is the son of the king. More carte Blanche.

Maybe Charles will let them move in Clarence House.

I agree with you about the documentary, and allegedly ERII let them both have it in private. But I think the 1-year separation was only for Harry.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again as our past posts are pretty voluminous: I think ERII and British LE kept their powder dry until they could bust both PH and MM in a drug deal. Since MM usually takes the lead, I think she was arrested for drugs and he was arrested for something like drunk driving. Then her visa was cancelled and she was given however many days to get out of the U.K.

It was a calculated risk if PH would go with her, and in the event, he did (with rehab dismissing his criminal charges, e.g., but hers only temporarily withdrawn). But I believe the DM commenter who said she isn't going to get another visa. Going forward, MM will only "visit" the U.K., and you can't raise a young family on "visits."

I actually think the BRF have played their cards amazingly well. But with PH's wealth, addiction, and immaturity, I just don't see him making it out of this alive. She will have done too much damage to his relationships with his family. I hope I'm wrong.

@SwampWoman What is so frustrating is in less than a year when the senior royals sit down to review the twelve month agreement, I would bet dollars to doughnuts the Harkles negotiate to receive even more financially than they are receiving now.
I want a golden goose daddy and I want a golden goose NOW!!! I imagine the corrosive couple will apply as much emotional blackmail as possible to suck even more from the royal purse strings.

I know the royal family will never cut them off despite the hurtful articles being written about them, the books getting ready to be released, the sugars that give the one finger salute to over a 1000 years of British Monarchy. But blood will always be blood and as much as we might want JH to learn how to be a regular guy, get a job and support his family like the rest of us, I just don't see it happening.

Last Monday my DH and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and I was overjoyed to post on my social media that when you marry, you marry the family. I am thankful to have added a second set of parents, two more brothers, a grandpa and numerous aunties and cousins that I love to bits. Unfortunately that cuts in two directions. As much as Hapless and Markzilla want to pretend they grew up as orphans, they just can't get rid of the pesky thing called family. Neither of them have a heart of gratitude and the more they try to PR their way to a positive image, the deeper their hole becomes.

Re. Clarence House

I don’t remember the source, but I have read that Charles intends to retain Clarence House as his personal residence, using BP for the business of the monarch. Viewers of The Crown will remember that when Elizabeth became Queen, she and Philip very much wanted two things: that the children have the surname Mountbatten and that the young family be allowed to keep Clarence House as their family home. They had only recently moved in upon their return from Malta, and Philip had just had the entire house remodeled. It was a crushing blow when they were told Clarence House would have to be given up. They did get their way in the end about the Mountbatten surname, but the Royals are unanimous in hating Buckingham Palace apparently. Charles was five years old at the time. He’s had time to become comfortable in Clarence House again, but I can’t help wondering if the stated intention to stay put there is his determination to fulfill the wish his mother had all those years ago and to give two fingers up to the courtiers. Unlike his mother at the time, he is not a 25-year-old young woman, and perhaps he relishes daring anyone to stop him. After all, he will be the King.

Apt. I at KP has been very expensively renovated for William so as to be suitable for the future Prince of Wales, as there is office space and reception rooms there as well as private quarters. William and Kate will also of course retain Anmer Hall at Sandringham.

If anyone is interested in more Royal Marine band music, I found this on YouTube after watching the sound of silence video from Megan and harry’s last engagement in March. This performance was two years ago, with William standing in for the once again missing Captain General Royal Marines, then ostensibly “on his honeymoon”.

It’s a great show with some of the best marine musicians in the world, and it’s a show Harry missed, off doing his own thing with Meghan. We’ve never actually got confirmation of any kind that there was a honeymoon. I understood the desire to keep the Destination a secret given the media frenzy surrounding them. They could’ve had that privacy, and told us where they went when they got back, perhaps shared a few snaps? We got nothing at all, and frankly it never appeared as though they had had a relaxing holiday anywhere, but maybe that’s just me.

I am also wondering if the media blitz this week (and it has been a deluge) is a ploy to get more money from the RF. The stories seem like they have been nonstop. Foster as the father figure, MM felt like there was a conspiracy against her, they had margaritas for their anniversary, slept in a tent, called wedding vendors from 2 years ago, Megxit wasn't her idea, but Harry's...oh and don't forget the secret diary!

Perhaps she is just trying to wear the RF down so they will give her money.

@Wild Boar Battle-maid...

I tried first by attaching a link from the web which didn't work. I was only successful after I downloaded a picture and then used the upload option instead.

Keep trying!

That'll do - suitably vague!

This was taken a few years ago as I got to my feet, having accidentally taken the quick way down!

@WBBM Hooray! You have an avatar pic! I love it! And yep, that is an Icelandic Horse in honor of DH who is from Iceland :)

@Cookieshark I think you are on to something in terms of the media deluge being a ploy to get more money. I also read that supposedly Hazzy's dearest friend Tom Inskip is supposed to be flying to LA so the two can makeup and be BFFs again. Maybe Tom can knock him on the head, throw him on a private jet and spirit him back to England so he can be deprogrammed.

@henrietta wouldn’t that all be in public records though? (I don’t know the laws in England)

I wouldn't know the details on how they did it, but the Home Office would have been in on it from the start. If they were both caught in illegal activities, it obviously would have been pretty easy to work out legal agreements to avoid prosecution and "formal" arrests in exchange for leaving the country and/or going to rehab.

IMO what they really wanted was to play hardball with her, and regrettably, she was able to "Hoover" Harry back up after the incident. But I think this was the behind-the-scenes catalyst for Megxit.

The DM commenter who seemingly "slipped" and shared MM's visa revocation disappeared pretty quickly afterwards. I'm guessing at the arrests part, I admit, and it's because there are only a few things that get your visa canceled and being told it won't be renewed (that is, "Get out!"). And doing that to the daughter-in-law of the POW? She was a new member of the royal family!

Either the poster lied or British LE had to have caught her in some major illegal activity. The thing is, though, that nothing after last year's American Thanksgiving has contradicted what the poster said. If anything, it's all been consistent with her visa having been revoked.

The Santa video was so poorly done, it almost reeked "rehab." But MM was praising it to high heaven on her SM. This was around the time that TorontoPaper was claimimg she had had problems re-entering Canada. No one was sure where they were until they surfaced in Vancouver at a borrowed mansion...down the street from a drug rehab. Then, when we next saw Harry, he looked pretty good and happy.

I don't think MM is going to be darkening the U.K.'s doorstep much in the future. She'll probably only visit for short periods of time where she will be very defiant, but very nervous. At their last engagement at the memorial service, as another poster mentioned, when Sophie looked in MM's direction, MM immediately looked away. I don't think any of the doors the BRF are keeping open for Harry include her, and I think she knows it.

Re the scoop that appeared yesterday that leaving the RF was all Harry’s idea...markle reportedly wanted Omid’s book out earlier than scheduled. Most of us think that was so she could counter Lady C’s narrative, right? MM must have been told no...so she’s leaking...or getting someone to leak revelations now in hopes that they will paint her in a better light.

See, none of this was her fault! Harry caused this don’t you see!

I’ll bet she has half the book out in leaks by mid-June. Unfortunately for Omid and Durand, there will be little need to actually buy the book since we are gonna know every bit of sugar-coated Nonsense waaay before the scheduled released date.

This just tells me she truly is feeling the heat of all this negative public opinion. Good.

Thanks to all who mentioned the ‘Crowns of Britain’ blog. I’d never seen it before, and it’s absolutely hysterical!

@Hikari: I, like you, doubt that there was really a honeymoon. Again, lots of articles about where they ‘might’ go, but I actually don’t think they went anywhere.
Aquagirl said…
@Henrietta: I find your theory about the arrests compelling. That would explain MM’s quick departure, and I definitely think that MM’s Visa has been canceled. As far as the one-year review, I believe that was meant for Harry only, in terms of being able to return to the UK. I honestly cannot see MM being welcomed back. Ever.

I keep telling you and telling you. Just ignore the one you don't want. It worked for me, didn't it? LOL
So Megxit was all Harry's idea and Meghan just went along with it? Sounds like someone (aka Meghan and her mouthpiece Scobie) is throwing Harry under the bus in an effort to make MM look better - at Hary's expense, of course. The idea is that if the BRF and the British people hate someone for Megxit, let that someone be Harry and not his wife, who just supported his idea because she loves him so much and is such a dutiful wife.

Does Harry even realize what is happening or is he, even now, too dumb to see it?

“Cheers! My motto is ‘It's 5 o'clock somewhere’”

I rarely drank before this Covid-19 mandatory self-isolation, but in the past two months I have developed the questionable habit of having a cocktail and mixed nuts every evening. Here in the States there is a great pre-mixed line of adult beverages by On The Rocks—Cosmopolitain, Margarita, Jalapeño Margarita, Mai Tai, Aviator, Old Fashioned.....I’ve sampled them all. Too strong for a traditionally teetotal me, but perfect on ice with Pellegrino or such.

It’s not 5 o’clock yet here, but a hearty “Cheers!” in advance.

Alright - I am actually a Duchess Meghan fangirl and not a bot, but I truly enjoy Nutty's blog regardless.

I'm saddened that posters have chosen to attack each other because it's so unnecessary and antithetical to this space. I hope Nutty continues this blog in whatever format that is best for them.
@ElfSelf

“I know the royal family will never cut them off despite the hurtful articles being written about them, the books getting ready to be released, the sugars that give the one finger salute to over a 1000 years of British Monarchy.”

If Meghan eventually publishes those diaries she reportedly has kept since meeting JCMH, all bets are off. It is hard to imagine the RF continuing to fund her and H if this were to happen, blood be d@mned.

@Cookie: I don’t believe that any of the recent PR is true. Camping out in the backyard of Frogmore to celebrate JH’s birthday? Calling their wedding vendors on their Anniversary? Same day of the supposed Mexican food & margaritas. I think this ‘menu’ was leaked to show that they’re really enjoying CA. But, realistically, it’s just more PR garbage.
Aquagirl said…
@Barbara: I think blaming JH makes the entire situation much worse. If he was doing it for her, just maybe some people might understand & forgive him. (Not me, but some people.) But if it’s being portrayed as his decision, he looks like an ungrateful prat who treated HM, who happens to be his grandmother, his father, his brother & SIL, the rest of the BRF, the UK citizens, his patronages, the military (especially the Royal Marines, and the entire Invictus Games organization) like crap. I don’t think that anyone will believe that it was his idea, because MM was so transparent about how she really felt about all of the above. However, if people do believe it, there will be absolute outrage, and a call to remove all titles, funding, and any connections to his patronages. Many, including me, think that this should’ve already occurred, but this will just add more fuel to that fire and he may never recover.

Blind Item #8
The former actress turned royal now has approximately double the security personnel she had north of the border. Massive security bills every month being paid by taxpayers in two countries but with no actual benefit for the countries involved. This will go on month after month and year after year forever. The son is still officially in the line of succession which means until his death he will also need to be protected at taxpayer expense of two countries.

Can we go back to discussing the reason why we all came here in rhe first place? The Vanity Fair story contradicts the 'Harry was the one who wanted to leave' story trotted out recently. So which one is it? Conspiracy against her or Harry's distaste for RF life? Lol. Wish they would make up their minds.

Thank you for your kind words. Please don't go, same for Lt Nyota Uhura.

Some posters have joined the fray talking abt poster X or poster Y when they were not directly in the firing line so this just fans the flames of dissension. Insults don't move the argument forward either. Please try and be at least civil, if only out if respect for others, Nutty in particular.

I was off line all day until just now. Scrolled back and started reading. My goodness !!! everyone is attacking each other. as aid above - poster vs poster. some of the people complaining the most are now attacking other posters. It's like the sniping was out of control there for awhile.

I wanted to keep this format but now i am reconsidering. I think alot of posters need to take a break, go outside and get some fresh air. Calm down. Stop the passive-aggressive attacked on each other.

@Blithe Spirit - your above comment is just the same - "feline's frantic comments" You say it's baiting. Well, you are baiting her.

I think Meg has met her match in President Trump for obstinacy, and he has said categorically that the United States will not pay the Harkles’ security bills. We would be on the hook for a portion if harry was here on a state tour as a representative of the Queen. He is not. He may be considered more than a private citizen in his birth country, but responsibility for an unemployed tossed on a gap year falls to the tosser’s Dad. MeGain is a private citizen with only the delusions of a title. Not terribly long ago she called Donald Trump Syphilis ... But he is supposed to gladly fund her jolly in Tyler Perry’s mansion? Let’s let Oprah cover their security… She’s doing everything else for them. Canada got soaked for some of their security costs because they were still technically senior royals residing in a commonwealth country. They are nobody now. I wish they both jumped in that ungated pool and See if they both possess enough hot air to hold their breath forever.

@Lt. Nyota:

I, too, hope that you will stay, as I really enjoy your comments and participation.

For me, the interesting thing about much of the recent PR is that it’s trying to show that MM is a good wife. When the exact opposite is true. If she really recreated Botswana in the backyard of Frogmore (which I don’t believe), why are we reading about this now when it happened in September of 2019? To show that MM is thoughtful and romantic, of course. And why are we hearing the intimate details of the supposed anniversary celebration? Same thing. Sadly, this points to MM’s desperation, and, to me, that she’s ready to totally throw him under the bus, including claims of addiction, mental health issues, and possibly abuse. (She loved him so much, she was so wonderful, caring, and romantic, she tried so hard, etc.) Plus now we hear that it was Harry’s idea to leave and she kept asking him if he was sure, etc. Just your everyday supportive wife. Such a con artist. The saddest thing is that Harry does suffer from depression and most likely addiction, but as they always say, who is the easiest person to murder? A drug addict of course, because nobody will doubt it. Everyone has seen how he appears to be spiraling downward, and she will use this to her advantage.

The tent camping at Frogmore sounds extremely unlikely to me. They were leaving for South Africa a little over a week later with plans for Harry to visit Botswana. And the "tent camp" they went to when dating reportedly cost £1000 a night. Hardly sleeping bags in a backyard tent under a flight path to a major airport.

ROFL, I have to say that when I read about them celebrating with vendors, I started laughing to myself with the muttered comment of "Who does that? NOBODY, that's who!" If she thinks that is how 'normal' people do anniversaries and that is why it was put out in PR so that we can see that they are a normal married couple, HUGE fail.

A Quiet Interlude

Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.

Gosh It Is Quiet In Here

There just hasn't been a lot from really either of them together or individually lately, has there? But why? Have they blown all their bridges, connections and are down to toss the proverbial kitchen sink for attention? I don't know.  We've heard that moving vans showed up at the house.  And nothing more like pictures from a neighbor happy to see the back of them. We've heard they bought a house on Portugal.   But the wording was kind of funny.  Multiple sources of the same thing - yes but that isn't a guarantee of proof as it could all be from the same source.  It was more along the lines of "We've been told that...".  It came off as a we really don't know if we believe this to be true or not so we are putting it out there but hedging our bets.  Or at least it did to me. And nothing more like exactly when, where or for how much or when they might visit it again.  Or pictures of the awesome inside.  Or outside.  Or requisite ...

As Time Passes and We Get Older

I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...
