@AnT: IMO You are correct about one child being singled out as the bad one, and the other children as the accomplished ones. I'm female with three brothers, and mother always favored the boys. I got intense therapy, and they didn't. The three of them have hella lives, and I'm mostly at peace.

A 40 page children's book? No one's going to read that unless it's to put one's child asleep. That book will end up in the remainder pile at 99 cents.
I agree totally about the age of the child - for me, it's the proportions, that give the game away - size of head, to length of body, to length of leg.

A young child's head is relatively large, the legs relatively short, in comparison with size of body. As it grows, the proportions change. It doesn't matter what size it looks, especially when there's little to give scale, as here, IMO.

I think Charles wishing Archie a happy birthday is absolutely fine. It’s not Archie’s fault how his parents have treated others. Why bear a grudge on a child? If Charles had ignored him it would have been defenceless and rather mean, he’s looking at the bigger picture and being rightfully fair and kind.

Whomever posted the DM close-up - one of the first things I noticed was the glowing spaces between the fingers on his left hand.

There are no blades of grass between his fingers, this would be a result expected if one cut/paste the boy from another image.

@JennS – “Is Markle deliberately TRYING to cause trouble with the public by refusing to show her child?”

Yes, yes she is. As for the Queen pitching in on helping her win her case, she may be acting the peace maker, figuring they can hang themselves in the American press from here on out.

As for whether the child is Gavin, I got the distinct impression after reviewing current Gavin pics that he is close to 4ish+? Undeniably older and more physically developed than Archie which has raised the question among truly brilliant people that she is using "outdated" (yet recent) Gavin pics to represent Archie.

This way they are fresh enough for good quality photos but old enough (1 yr+) shot in advance and either released now or photo-composite to release now.

This is an entirely brilliant and plausible theory so please make a note of it!

And yes, it is quite unusual the child's pants are so deeply shadowed yet there is no shadow of the child on the ground. Odd.

When I look at the left leg, it is pretty straight. But when I look at the right, it is fairly straight from the waist down but does a funny jag at the knee. It could be just the way the folds are from the bends at the knee but the angle of it still seems off. Even if you account for the right foot slightly ahead of the left, then the right sneaker seems too angled away from the front of the body and the pant leg.

The other thing about the pant legs is that they are rolled up (seam on the left leg). Cute, I must admit. And then, when you look at the sneakers, the back pull tab is over both legs. That's kind of thick (doubled up) to be between the skin and the sneaker tab I think.

Contrast this birthday photo with those of Prince Louis on his second birthday--rainbow painted hands, the paint on which eventually made their way to his face, a huge cheeky grin. The very definition of a vibrant, healthy, messy toddler enjoying his special day and life with his family.

-------------------------------------------------------------

RE the Royals being terrified of the next Oprah partnership...

First off, IMHO, H&M have already spilled what tea they have, and it backfired spectacularly. The lies are continuing to be called out more than a month later, and after the initial high, reports are that they realized they made a huge mistake and it caused strife between them. What possibly else could they have? A rape scandal is about the only thing left. And I don't think they dare try that one.

Allies I think they've overlooked or that I'm sort of shocked hasn't emerged during all this... Earl Spencer. He was the RF's most vocal critic after the death of his sister, and attended both his nephews' weddings, as did Diana's sisters. Additionally, I think Harry could give a call to Paul Burrell, who always seems anxious to give a chat about Diana and hot gossip. (I met him once. Nice (in the pleasant sense) man. But nothing to do other than continue to try to ride Diana's coattails for all they're worth)

-----------------------------------------
@Magatha -

Yes, right from start.

That arty-farty wedding-party photo really said:

`You may have spent a bomb on our wedding, greeted us rapturously, celebrated joyously, but we're turning our backs on you all, moving forward, leaving you behind. We despise you.'
Kate Kosior said…
With regards to the book and whether it will appeal to children...

Even the classic schmaltzy "I'll Love You Forever" (which I can't read my daughter without crying) has elements of humor--the child at the center of it all is smelly and and crazy and messy and noisy, but his mom still loves him, even when she doesn't understand him.

No way is a kid going to be impressed by this book. She even supposedly, by her own admission, wrote the poem for Harry, not for Archie.

I predict it'll be on the bargain shelves in no time.

KCM1212. A collection of body parts. Ha. Gives new meaning to the gruesome twosome.

Kate K. What do they have left? Oh maybe something on Charles? (Close ties to some now deceased pedophiles) or more innuendo on Diana’s death. Or if they read the Qanon people ties to child trafficking. Heck. With those two innuendo on anything (truth or not) would be something I would see them do. They aren’t winning by living their best life and the misses has few big projects to announce. The hot gossip is what will keep them or her in the news.

Ugh oh. Saw duchess of Cambridge is leaving books around london as a promotion for Hold Still. Are we gonna see hand signed copies by Archie of the new Harkles book strewn around Montecito, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica?

Good detective work on the photoshop. I don’t know that well but did feel that the left side of the body was a little too defined as in a cut and paste. She either doesn’t have permanent custody of any kid or she’s just trolling all of us. I think it’s number 1 but if it’s number 2 I would have to give a grudging hays off to her because it has been amusing dissecting pictures. As a narc I seriously doubt it’s number 2. Too subtle and clever for the misses.

Probably is the reverse. #6 gets summoned by M, if and when.... Remember how imperious looking M was w Oprah. I figure it is the same at home.

Also Kate is doing good and effective PR these days. I found their (W&K) new video on their new channel good and the jerky music helped make it positive and playful. Kate is out winning the book offensive too. M's hand's are tied until her book comes out.

Sepia Arch was ridiculous compared to the photos Kate issued of her children. Kate plays it straight. No artsy-fartsy garboooge photos, the kind M thinks is so cool.

Levin also points out:

So that wife was left unprotected by the Palace? Another lie confirmed.

Aide ‘tried hard to protect Duchess’s privacy’

Former press secretary to the Sussexes details his efforts to guard Meghan’s reputation in legal letter

The Daily Telegraph 7 May 2021

By Victoria Ward

THE DUCHESS OF SUSSEX’S former press secretary has insisted he led “extensive efforts” to protect her privacy and reputation during her time as a working member of the Royal family.

Jason Knauf, who worked for both the Sussexes and the Cambridges before the two households split and is now chief executive of Prince William’s Royal Foundation, appeared to refute the Duchess’s claim that she was “unprotected” by Kensington Palace staff, saying he “regularly” objected to coverage deemed “unfair or untrue”.

In a letter sent to the Mail on Sunday’s solicitors in connection with her legal case against the newspaper, Mr Knauf revealed that he also “made significant efforts over many months” to advise and support the Duchess’s father, Thomas Markle, and protect him from media intrusion. In her interview with Oprah Winfrey, the pregnant Duchess, 39, suggested her communications team had failed to defend her from inaccurate stories and refused to take action when false allegations were made.

She also alleged that her Kensington Palace team had lied about her to protect other members of the family.

The Duchess said: “I came to understand that not only was I not being protected, but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.”

Mr Knauf advised the Duchess over the composition of the letter she wrote to her father, which Mr Markle later gave to the Mail on Sunday, prompting her to successfully sue the newspaper for breach of privacy and copyright.

Although the Duchess had admitted that Mr Knauf “provided feedback” in the form of “general ideas”, his solicitors denied that he was a co-author or had any copyright claim over its contents.

Lawyers for the Queen stated that copyright did not belong to the Crown, clearing the way for the Duchess to secure a full victory on her claim.

Mr Knauf ’s solicitors insisted in their letter, released by the High Court yesterday, that he remained “strictly neutral”. But they said he wanted to set out “his account of the background to and context of his involvement” in advising the Duchess over the five-page missive.

“From 2016 Mr Knauf led extensive efforts to protect the privacy and reputation of the Duchess and, as and when directed by her, the privacy of her parents,” the legal letter said.

“This included drafting a press statement in November 2016, issued in his own name, condemning racist and sexist coverage of Ms Markle, as she then was, and other regular interventions – directly to media and through the Independent Press Standards Organisation – to request privacy both for her and for her parents.”

Mr Knauf was “involved in providing advice and offering support with a view to protecting her father from media intrusion”, including “many conversations with Mr Markle and a number of interventions… to object to intrusions into Mr Markle’s privacy”, it added.

This support continued “even after the Mail On Sunday reported that Mr Markle had allegedly been cooperating with press photographers”.

Um, didn't Moderna waive it 6 months ago? Why, yes, they did, in October! That doesn't mean that a random company is going to be able to build the facilities and talent to manufacture said vaccine, then they'll have to do clinical trials, and it will probably take a year and a half to two years or longer. The cost for this will be in the billions before the first dose of vaccine is approved.

Harry and his future ex ol' lady are idiots. Nobody works for free. Facilities are not free. Expertise is not free. Raw materials are not free. Clinical trials are not free.

In the Ingrid Seward article linked above by @WBBM, she reports that as a "Duchess" Harry's wife said she did not have a "voice" in the OW interview.

I would argue that she could have had an important voice on a global scale by being part of the very respected BRF.

Catherine has found a way to "have a voice" by showing the world what is important to her--the people of Britain and the Royal Family as evidenced by her respectful actions, dress, demeanor, and public speech. She has found her voice by the genuine support of her patronages. She shows that her immediate family is important to her by raising healthy, happy, and well-adjusted children. Her husband, William looks like a happy husband and father. She is also respectful and caring with her family of origin and her extended Royal Family.
She has shown the world her voice by carefully choosing and actually completing projects which are important to her--the best-selling "Hold Still" book comes to mind. A project which was open to contributions from the British public showcasing one of Catherine's cherished interests--photography. Her project was actually inclusive and open to all. I love that she has left copies in various places as gifts to the public with a personal letter.
Yes, the other Duchess could have had a voice and made a difference, too. However, by her actions over the past few years including disrespect for others, no follow-through, and sowing hate and division, she has chosen not to have a voice which people find meaningful.

I think I might have not mentioned but a cousin crawled out of the woodwork to assert he has 2015 Medical Power of Attorney (which I can't prove is invalid because the newer one can't be found) and now I don't even has access to my brother; don't even know he is alive after being kicked out from his bedside. This same cousin raided our dead Grandmother's house as soon as she died and before my Father, the Executor could bury my Grandmother and settle her estate. What evilness I am up against (it makes Meagan seem like a saint).

I wonder what little girls will make of the book?
....................

@Wild Boar
She has some nerve writing this book with a 'father' topic especially since she also helped damage Harry and PC's relationship.

And yes, good point about 'little girls'! Markle may have limited herself to purchases from approx half the potential buyers since parents of daughters may not be interested in buying this book! LOL!!!

An excellent comment in today's Mail following the report that Charles has hardly ever seen Archie, apparently:

Quite, but remember, Archie is advanced for his age. He could say crocodile, his first word, months ago so might now have progressed to sentences. He could also say drive safely and something else. Perhaps he says 'Have you had the vaccine yet?' and can say a few 'wokeisms'.

I haven't posted here in several days, but reading. I became interested in the discussion concerning Archie's 2nd birthday picture. I think it's such a shame that they need to hide him like that. It would be better if they just did nothing and shared nothing if they want to keep him out of the media.

I also believe they should be sharing actual pictures of Archie with the Queen and PC. They don't deserve to be denied seeing their grandchild/great grandchild. It's just another cruel reminder that MM/H suck as human beings.

I looked at the source codes of the picture, rather than analyzing the picture itself. One thing I found was this picture was either downloaded or uploaded using the wifi service at a Starbucks. The person handling this photo was sitting at a Starbucks.

It had pretty specific information about which store it originated from, but since I don't know Starbucks store numbers and locations I couldn't decipher that coding. I also don't know who was at this Starbucks, it could have been the media outlet employee, it could have been MM, but the transaction in whatever form was at a Starbucks. If I could figure out what particular Starbucks it came from, it would answer all the questions of who and when it happened.

Seems pretty careless putting it out from such a public domain.

@Carol 'cat eyes' Davis - I don't know you but I am so sorry you are presently living in such a nightmare. I don't know what your brother was thinking when he named this cousin as power of attorney for medical decisions, but remember that is all he is afforded to do. I hope with all my heart that he makes the right decisions that are in the best interest of your brother.

It literally broke my heart reading this. I lost my brother in 2014 and I still can't talk about him without falling apart. He lived with me and as he was going out for the day, I did tell him I loved him and he told me he loved me and those were the last words we said to each other. Later in the afternoon I got the call from the hospital that he had died, actually he was murdered. Then I received calls from the medical examiner and it was truly a horrific moment in my life.

I miss him every day and I'm not sure I will ever get over it. So I truly understand your pain right now and the grief you are feeling and the uncertainty of what is going on and where he is.

This cousin has no rights concerning any other part of your brother's life in case the worst scenario happens, in that case kick him to the curb and out of your life. I'm truly sorry.
JerseyGirl said…
RE: Archie and all his family.

No matter what is happening within a family, one puts aside those feelings and allows the children to have a unbiased relationship.

It can also be a great healer of the adult relationships. But these two dopes are/have destroyed that opportunity for Archie and his future sister. What kind of monster would do that?

It's really a shame that MM/H don't have the foresight to see how much this is going to affect their children. Beyond selfish and I can't think of word to describe it. These two aren't giving their child a chance to make his own decision about all of it and because these two idiots are taking the public step by step into how hostile they are, the children will one day see the evil that their parents truly are.

I hope one day they will reunite with the rest of their families on both sides and begin to have a real relationship with their cousins, Aunts and Uncles, and grandparents if those grandparents are fortunate enough to still be living.

Shame on both of these evil monsters.

Yes it certainly is sketchy and beyond belief that this particular photo was handled through such a public domain.

Going through all the code, this was certainly surprising to me. But I have no idea who was at the Starbucks handling this photo.

It would be easier if I knew which store it was done through. I don't know if there's a Starbucks in Montecito and if this is where it originated. Every store has a number and that number is in that code. I suppose I could call Starbucks and ask where this store is located. Could MM be this sloppy?

ROFL. Husband told me about being stationed in Germany, and the traffic cop had a definite twang when he spoke English. Husband asked him what's up with that, and traffic cop said his dad was a (German) officer stationed at the Air Defense School at Fort Bliss, Texas, and he spent his youth there. My grandmother visited me when I was stationed at Fort Bliss and spoke with the young German soldiers there. I think she may have been trying to set me up (grin) with a nice German boy.

You are so right!! Can you imagine understanding that your parents gave away the opportunity to be a Prince/Princess of the Royal Family of Britain? And all of the opportunities that came with that to do great things for the world?

It will be a further tragedy if, by the time Archie is putting himself through college, his parents are living in a double wide in Tijuana.

I believe the parents dont see it as such because they are still firmly convinced they will get their half in/half out deal. Or make billions, I tell you billions, hanging around the fringes of celebrity.

And I am gobsmacked you could see where that picture was uploaded! Mad skills, girl.

I wonder if one reason to obscure Archies face is to convince judges they protect his privacy, while suing over tge pap walks.

I just can't understand why backgrid would work with her after she sued them over the "walk in the woods" photo. Do they make enough with the photo to justify the expense of a trial?

And finally, I am so sad about the loss of your brother, particularly in such a horrific way. My brother is so dear to me. I am sending love and light your way as well as a gentle hug.

I think we ain't seen nothin' yet! I read the news about tech companies preferentially hiring women and minorities. (I see you, Chairman Xi!) Apparently skin shade and genitalia are more important than actual math skills. Since the companies have been actively recruiting minorities and women for YEARS, seems that they are hell bent on further relaxing standards. Apparently the CIA is all about transgender hirees now.

Then there are airline pilots. A cargo plane crashed, killing the crew. Seems the pilot was completely at fault. He'd been shuttled from company to company because he was incompetent and should not have even had a pilot's license but, because of his skin color, nobody would say so because "racist". One airline said that they would be hiring and training 50% minority and female pilots. Silly me. I think jobs should be completely skills based.

I choked up when I read your message. I am so sorry for the loss of your brother and in such an undeserved and unfair way. I appreciate you sharing how you were (and still) emotionally affected you are. I've had well intentioned people seem to dismiss my pain by stating "maybe you wouldn't want to see him in a vegetative state" "maybe he is fine". OMG!

Your story resonated with me because of the last act was my brother that evening was giving me a gold cross and necklace and he said he had another gift (religious too, on its way but it had been delayed) which showed up the same day as his massive stroke. It was a beautiful marble recreation of Michelangelo's 'Pieta'. He had been buying a flurry of gifts for others even though he had limited means and I asked him not to buy anything for me. He said he didn't think he was going to live much longer and said it would be his last opportunity to buy anything.

I was so emotional I didn't think about involving the police and when I went to talk to the Police Chief (a week ago) he was out. I have now looked up the law and see I can legitimately say he is a 'missing person' and there may be a case for kidnapping as his massive stroke means he could not have the wherewithal to consent to what is happening r=to him IMO. He has not called me which he would do. No one has called to get his glasses which he desperately needs to see, nor request his 2 phones (which I keep charged in case he might call or someone call, like the strange Hospital office did looking for him a couple of days ago.

@KCM1212

Yes I know the vast majority of people are fine with the Pfizer shot but a small minority have side effects some of which can be life threatening, like rapid heart rate; my brother's heart rate is normally 60 and it went up to 120-140beats/min. Of course this is not necessarily due to the shot and neither is the blood clots but I thought it was worth pointing out to the ER/Hospital where it was given 'short shrift' while Pfizer was interested in what I had to say and gave me a case number.

I would not encourage anyone to Not get the vaccine if they think it is right for them. However, I wish my brother had not gotten the shot now.

-------------------------

While I never worked for any of the big name tech companies as most didn't exist when I started working in the tech field. I came into the field with a computer science degree in a men only field in the mid-eighties. It shocked me to be the only woman working in that kind of field.

I worked for one of the biggest companies in the world and it was definitely a man's world in all respects except for secretarial positions or clerical positions.

Once the expansion in computers came along, my company began hiring women, minorities, etc.

I started in computer operations, went onto networking engineering, and dabbled in programming and web development as a hobby in the 90's. But I was always up against the men and all that entailed.

MM wants to talk about not having a voice once she married, she should have worked in the corporate world filled with all men!!!! She's calls herself a feminist as if she invented the word and the concept of it. No, it was our mother's in the 50's and 60's who began that whole process of equality for women.

It wasn't until MM spoke at some UN event where she qualified herself as a feminist, that I actually laughed out loud. I didn't know I could have placed that on my own CV back in the day, nor did I know I would ever need to announce it in such a public way. It is to me more of a action forward, a progression of moving forward, doing what needed to be done to have a voice, and having the ability to stand up to those corporate goons that were running the show.

It is my generation that carried the torch from the women of the 60's into the end of the 20th century and well into the 21st century. This woman/evil witch wasn't even born yet and certainly didn't coin the phrase.

She's actually setting back the very movement she claims to have a handle on. I never needed a man or his money to live a nice life, I accomplished that all on my own. She needed to marry H to get recognition, accolades, and money. She will always have to rely on her husband and his titles to make any money going forward. That's not a feminist, that's a 40's or 50's housewife, and that's all she is now besides a real trouble maker.

I don't know what her endgame is but I wish it would come to it's logical conclusion sooner rather than later. I could probably write my own book on how much contempt I have for this fraud.

Good question. I'm not sure as I haven't really done a deep dive yet. It's a bit complicated since I haven't worked in the tech field since the early 2000's. I am so thankful I no longer work because I couldn't deal with the woke crowd either. Today's youth think getting rich is more important than enriching one's life to make the world a better place. Such a shame that it really does come down to that nowadays.

It stuck my funny bone the way that you said it, lol.

I honestly believe MM was obsessed with Royalty since she was a little girl, but in her imagination, she was the Queen. Just look at that video her dad shared when she's in the yard playing with her little friends. She's not only bossing all of them around, she had that wand she was touching them with making them all princesses and she was the queen.

I find it so difficult to be an American woman and crossing over into a royal family member through marriage. I also never obsessed on royalty, unless reading Cinderella is considered an obsession.

I think in her twisted mind MM believed in that kind of fairytale, and she wanted in. It's a bit archaic so it would never be a fit to me and it was never a fit for MM. Boosting that she is use to being a public figure or whatever the wording was at the time, and having had a career, she was a good fit for H. He couldn't have been more wrong about her and her abilities.

Yet I understand H wanted to leave that life before he even met MM. But she's been such a influence on him that in the OW interview he said with no compunction that he was trapped but didn't know he was trapped until he met MM.

She has completely screwed his head up and now has massive control over him. He really doesn't know that he is really trapped now in every sense of the word. He's too deep into this whole idea that she is the perfect woman for him and until the day comes when it finally dawns on him. he's not going anywhere.

MM couldn't hack it because she "lost her voice." Like Ariel she got it back and she's not afraid to use it now, but in the most destructive way.

In the Ingrid Seward article linked above by @WBBM, she reports that as a "Duchess" Harry's wife said she did not have a "voice" in the OW interview.

===============

Ah yes, so true.

I think she was out the door of the palace before she married H. But using her voice was an important message she wanted to get out in the world. The voice she has today has damaged her forever. She will never recover from that OW interview.

I know people were just kidding around about the whole Bill Gates/MM thing, but truth is, he wouldn't touch a person like her with a 100 foot pole since she was so loose lipped in that interview. Who would ever trust her except her present husband?
I'd love to know why Ann Widdecombe (former Conservative politician, known for speaking her mind), was one of the very first to identify The Wife as `Trouble' very soon after she emerged onto the UK scene. Needless to say, Widdecombe was pilloried for it, as was Germaine Greer, an academic with a similar approach to freedom of speech and feminism, who also took a very dim view of her very early on.

What was it they detected about her so quickly and why? Was it previous experience of narcissists?

Looks to me this zoom affair was him trying to get (scam) some money out of some naïve South Koreans. Who turned out to be plants and were there to get evidence of a Royal making money off his title.

Perhaps Prince Michael knew some Kremlin operatives/Russian businessmen in his salad days, a few decades ago. And there were some deals to be made and influence to be pedaled. But Today- Them dastardly ol' Russkies, associates of his are antiques, same as Prince Michael. Horses put out to pasture.

I have nothing against Prince Michael--- But this alleged exposé is BS!

The Times is digging on Meg's behalf, whether consciously or not. What H/M wanted to do was to merch their Sussex titles out for tens of millions. At any rate they are merching their titles in Netflix, Spotify, book deals. No comparison with what Prince Michael would do with these useless zoooming Koreans.

Yes in the United States it's HBIC Head B*tch in charge.

Doesn't it seem that the word 'woke' started gaining traction just as the pandemic started? It seem's like it as I really started hearing it over and over again in the past year.

What I think is happening is that there is an inordinate amount of useless time on their hands and I hope somehow it turns around. It will lose it's power when it's over used or used incorrectly as it was in a article about MM's colorful personality. We certainly can't cancel the word color as it's still a vital word in this world. I live in a very tolerant state and even I think it's going overboard.

Piers should still have a job and so should Sharon Osborne (and I don't even like her).

Then another odd thing happened- I see Meghan has released another ‘video statement’ of virtue signaling? I didn’t click on it as I can’t be bothered, but the headline reads that Covid has held back women of color according the Meghan? Is she going to call her daughter Black? Does this mean she hired someone of color to donate an egg? The entire obsession she has with racism, with her very white privileged family doesn’t make any sense. It’s all she talks about now.

Besides that, I was surprised that I didn’t investigate further. I think she’s jumped the shark with me and become incredibly incessantly boring!

Large part of the reason M was desperate to get to LA. Where she could get all this work done with no one squealing on her. In England she knew the work done on her would reach the UK press and twitter, eventually.

She didn't have the money to do these face adjustment dreams of hers. So far it seems like non-invasive type and minimal surgical? The RF is going through a long planned and much overdue transition. Many European royals have slimmed down. Charles has been talking about it for ages. The fact that Prince Michael is 78 and has had RPOs his entire life and still lives on crown property makes a difference. The younger generation are the ones being 'slimmed' like Bea and Eugenie, Tindals, Philips, Harry etc. They are not working royals, and some don't live in the UK makes a huge difference. H and wife are just desperately grasping for an old world monarchy not a modern one. H wife wants to scream "off with their heads" to silence all of her critics. Knowing someone Russian or working with a legitimate Russian charity does not make you a traitor. That is racist mentality, imo. Besides, if nobody is talking, nothing gets done and there are NO resolutions to the worlds issues. I dont read too much into that article, it sounds like a bunch of slighlty related bits of information strung together to mislead the public. Be careful when being asked to compare Apples (P Michael) to Oranges (H$M) they are not the same.

Hello Nutties.

First many, many thanks to whoever first mentioned Henri le chat noir. I think I've watched them all now and told my friends. How did I not know about him? He certainly suits my mood ...

Watched Lady C's latest last night and much as I love her, I still think she overrates M's intelligence. Yes she has come astonishingly far, but only because the UK wins the Stupidest Prince in the World competition.

Speaking of how far she has come, I've been rewatching the Scandi-noir series The Bridge (2) and reading an old TV blog as I finished each episode. Always fun to see what other people thought. Well, buried in this 2014 blog was a lascivious thread about how tight the detective's wife's skirts were ... "Oh God do I remember that tight skirt. Definitely in my top two well filled tight skirts of the year along with the mixed race paralegal / harvard applicant from Suits". That's all M was then. An unnamed tight skirt on a niche cable show. Now she's in our royal family!

My mother and I were amused this weekend at the dinner table, when my staunchly anti-monarchist father recounted a bad dream he'd had that the royal family were in our house. "Oh no!" my mother and I chorused. "Don't say Meghan's getting to you too!" "I'm not talking about Meghan" he replied. "I'm talking about the royal family". I think that's what the French call an aperçu (Henri's getting to me).

Thought I'd just paste this passage as it was one of several subjects in John Crace's weekly personal diary column in the Guardian, so no Sussex headline to draw our attention.

Random House has just announced that it will be publishing the Duchess of Sussex’s first children’s book, The Bench, at the beginning of next month. The book is about a variety of different fathers’ relationships with their sons and is reported to have been inspired by a poem Meghan wrote while watching Prince Harry playing with their son, Archie.

If by poetry you can count the doggerel that was released as a preview. “Looking at My Love / And our beautiful boy / And here in the window / I’ll have tears of great joy”. I know it’s harmless and well-meaning stuff, but forgive me for feeling underwhelmed. What is it with so many celebs who have children that makes them think they can write a picture book? Do they imagine that because there aren’t many words, then it must be quite easy to knock one out in between yoga and pilates classes?

The reality is that it is just as hard, if not harder, to write a book that will appeal to young children – and not forgetting the parents or grandparents who may be doing the reading – as it is to write for adults. There’s a reason why classics such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and The Gruffalo are still as well read now as when they were first published. It’s been a while since I read to my own children, but I can clearly remember them quickly rejecting any books we tried that they felt were substandard.

I can also remember having to read Avocado Baby over and over again to Robbie at bed time. And if I showed signs of slacking by turning over two pages at once, he’d force me to go back over the bits I had missed out. There was no getting past the two-year-old thought police.

Hapless has to show up at the unveiling to maintain his tenuous Royal connections. Though Haps would rather stay in Montecito, Royals feel the same. Good news is, I don't see any other reasons he has to visit England after the Diana unveiling. He might be away for years and years, pleasing the British public.
There was repeat of a very sensitive documentary about the Duchess of Kent on Channel 5 yesterday evening and I believe it'd still available to watch here:

https://royalwatcherblog.com/2021/05/09/katharine-the-compassionate-duchess/

It was beautifully done and revealed a very gracious, frail, woman about whom we hear little these days, who has lived a life of public service done without fanfare in the humblest way imaginable.

Life has been tough on her - a very shy person, she has had less than robust physical and mental health and sadness has touched her very profoundly. I knew she'd contracted German Measles in pregnancy and had a medical termination but hadn't heard that she'd lost another baby in a difficult delivery. Devastating.

She `stepped back' from royal life with the full agreement of the Queen, relinquishing her HRH and , as Mrs Kent, taught music in schools and also went as a helper to the sick and disabled on pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Do watch the programme if you can. It will restore you faith in human nature.

There's no mention of the Wife but I doubt if the contrast will be far from anyone's mind. The nearest they got was to say how she always made sure that Yorkshire Kate's work with charities was about them, not her.

I recall hearing the wedding service back in 1961 - our English mistress brought in her transistor radio so we could listen - at the end, Mrs C gave a little quiver as she exclaimed "Ooh! He sounded so manly when he said `I do'".

@Ava C,

I expected separate statue speeches too. Both were involved in development of the statue and the fund-raising for it. Why wouldn't both speak? The linked article says the source said "You might have thought they’d go for a joint statement and speech but that’s not the case. Each has insisted on preparing their own."

How could two adults present a "joint speech" anyway? What would they do-- take turns reading paragraphs of a prepared speech? Sounds really stupid. I can imagine releasing a joint written statement in advance, I suppose. But given this is an "in person" unveiling I don't see how any speech given could be joint. So why not have their speeches released in written form after the fact. It's not as though people who care don't know about the upcoming unveiling. It's been years in coming since the brothers announced their plan.

It may be both Will and Harry have refused to tell the other what he plans to say because neither trusts the other to stick to what he said he'd say. So the speeches could be inconsistent with each other on certain points. Big deal. They experienced Diana differently anyway.

I'm not sure Harry will he there either. If M gives birth in mid-June or hasn't yet by late June, I wouldn't come if I were him.
Hardly the occasion for a Morecombe and Wise double act, anyway.

I guess it started with their post-wedding fireworks photo, with a prematurely middle-aged H and his banana leg. I have just three words to say to Madame M. "Get over yourself!"

This vaccine donations to honour Archie's birthday is their most supremely egotistical gesture to date. Let's make a worldwide pandemic about a two-year-old we don't know and wouldn't be able to recognise if we were allowed to see him.

It points out that poor self-awareness may be linked to brain damage. (Plenty of options there, then)

From this, we can take heart from the idea that as neither of them shows much evidence of self awareness (barely as much as one `normal' person even when you put the two of them together?) they are doomed to failure.

You're right; assuming that you have `safe Search ON', even Kim Kardashian turns to looks at the camera.

Turning the back is a deeply insulting gesture - protesters at a divisive politician's funeral a few years ago turned their backs as the coffin went past - it would said far about them than simply staying away would have done. Whatever one thinks of the departed, there's something very nasty about showing disrespect at such times.

Still, what else can one expect of the Sussexes?
