But Really, Could they?

Richard Eden has an interesting article in the DM which references an article in The Guardian about the necessity of the passport applications for the kids as including HRH and the last name of Sussex.

Why?  Well supposedly this is all because they want to allow the kids to decide for themselves to become a working royal or continue to stay in private life.

The main focus becomes how this bewilders the Palace considering how difficult the parents found it all and then left.  As well has his thoughts that this is about maintaining royal aura ("links" is his term) before ending with how a push for the daughter might be as the American Princess might be helpful to her mommy's business.

What I wonder about is:

What or where did they get the idea that the kids would be welcomed into the fold and become working royal?

I am not convinced that was ever an option once they stepped back.

America doesn't do British history quite the same way or to the same detail.  Manners or rather etiquette is different.  And the clothing is not SoCal or Hollywood where a lot of skin shows.

Sure some of that can be taught but it takes more than a couple of classes to incorporate the how to respond to a situation and not embarrass the Firm.  And yeah they can have dressers help pick appropriate clothing but the person has to be willing to wear it.

It takes years before they let even the adults attend one of the big fancy dress dinners (and even then you start with being seated with "safe" people).

This is assuming that the people in the UK want more than just the current royals available (meaning the Wales and the various cousins/so on).  Is there that level of drive to wanting those kids in that kind of positions from the country?

And what about the current King or Prince of Wales?  They are or will be running the Working Royal Team.  They have to be open to this because if not, then it stops right there even if the kid wants to do this.  Right now the BRF is making do and still showing up without Mommy or Daddy of said kids.

So ... another question is: by that time (kid becomes an adult to become a working royal) will there be that level of need considering that by then the three Wales kids will be of age.  And they have grown up steeped in the history of the country, taught etiquette when they were little and have grown up seeing how it should be done by their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and so on.  Much less guidance to put them in the schedules.

So ... is it realistic to even think that someone can just step in and be polished, able to handle this kind of job with the finesse it requires or ... is that just another hopeful Hollywood script?

I don't think their stock options would make up for low salaries.

Usually stock options are for publicly traded companies.
Well, there they are. She who is whip smart and has that breathtaking smile that charms immediately any room she walks in and he who "wrote" his memoirs in his mature years of 37. The memoirs he expected his nearest and dearest would rush to read. Those golden words of the man he had become because it was the most important thing in the world according to him. They didn't and he couldn't understand why. He considered it to be his RIGHT to be understood and respected and also that all the workings of the British Monarchy would totally stop and concentrate on him and his woes.

He gave numerous interviews about his book and told stories of a ridiculous father and a balding brother who was loosing his looks. Stories of "plantings" and "leakings" and "briefings" that had only one goal: to destroy him and his wife. According to him it was immoral not to complain and explain and ever since he has not stopped to complaining and explaining.

Now he seems to be in a situation that he needs the goodwill of the mentioned father and brother. And he seems to think that he has every right to get their immediate attention and help. But his first words are not "I'm so, so sorry that..." They are I WANT and I NEED and I HAVE RIGHT !!!

Sharp as a tack that one like his spouse.

Good luck to them.

One of the best comments I've ever read about the Prince of Endless Tragedy was Chase Hughes (of Behaviour Panel): "Show me a time when he (Harry) doesn't communicate in insinuations!"

Harry is sharing his official diary engagements with his father so King Charles knows when he can and can't let the papers write about his trivialities.

I am sure the Palace is very humbled of Harry's magnanimous gesture!

So, are the BRF going to move Camilla's birthday because Hairy has a planned trip to Angola that day?
The Monteshitshow court are going to expect the King of England to move his appearances to suit the American royals now.
abbyh said…
I don't think that was the goal (expecting the palace to alter what was set up some time back in time).

I think the goal is to be able to say they have tried (even this) to make one or both available so they could get in to see the King. Then they can say they have tried to reach out but ... as always ... they are being refused admission/contact. Another way to claim victimhood if you will.

What they aren't seeing is how their prior choices have limited the options for contact now - that what they have done has way crossed the line. It probably felt good back then to hurt the ones they thought were against them (the duo). They no longer had the stability of the palace to help avoid these kinds of future issues.

I remember that there was something about how they would reach out to the family, extend olive branches and so on after the interview/books as if they expected the BRF/palace/royal tradition would turn to them with open arms after having thoroughly accepted the punishment by the duo as justified with an all is forgiven, welcome back to the family.

The monarchy stepped up and moved on without them (or even a backwards glance). I am reminded of a movie Meredith Baxter (sure it was her) where to get back at her ex husband, she kept dropping off the kids at his place. His response was to hire nannies and housekeepers and just kept rolling forward in his new life with his new girlfriend/wife.

Maybe not always. (inlaw is a broker who handled stock options for some company)

A lot of tech start ups do offer stock option to replace a chunk of the salary as many are cash poor. Company goes public and the holders of the options cash out. It feels like a lot of people hired on with them have some tech in their CV or they will have rubbed shoulders with people who were around who would likely talk the tech money/stock. If so, then one could see the potential of taking options over all salary (if that was even offered).

When the company is publicly traded, stock options are vested (you get the options after a certain time period) and unvested (you haven't held them long enough to control - ie sell). If you leave before they were vested then usually you lose the unvested options. If any are vested you generally have a certain time period to exercise the option when you leave.

However ... if the company is not yet public, then you generally leave with nothing (because everything it was based on hasn't gone public yet and you haven't stuck around for that valuation by people wanting or not to buy the stock).

We naturally do not know the vesting schedule which would have been in their contract.

This is a different financial vehicle but notice how the vesting works. With, say a 401k or 503b, the worker puts in X amount towards their retirement and the company matches like 5 or something %. Each year most times you are vested like 20% of the money the company matched to your contribution but some plans may be more of a none or all (you have to be in it for 5 years but then you get all their part). If the company sees that most people leave after 3 years, having a high vesting schedule means the company is more likely to get back their contributions most of the time because people would leave before they could take their part.

But Montecito hasn't gone public yet so the whole vesting part is pretty much just discussion.

So ... if they do offer options, think about how long each person who has left - stayed before leaving. That would be an interesting chart to plot.

The other interesting question is when exactly people were told that going publicly traded would happen. And, has that date moved in signed contracts over time?
Yes I read it that it was their plan a while ago. The trouble with Harry is that he finds it impossible to truly understand that he is not the most important person in the world. The King and the Prince of Wales have their own lives to live and work to carry out and they are not interested in shenanigans and juvenile tantrums of a middle aged man who has pronounced his independency of his family's business. That Harry has found it impossible to earn his own money is not their fault.

But it seems that Harry tries (again) to insist and harp to get what he wants and I don't believe it is going to end well. During these last years Harry has told the world several times that he loves his father and brother. Very strange love because one can see the hate, contempt, disgust and the need to deeply hurt on his face when he talks about them. Sometimes it is just best to believe people when they show you who they truly are.

Many years ago, long before I met Mr Wildboar, I read a tract called `The Church and the Single Person'. One statement stuck in my mind, that you should have the humility to accept that you need other people more than they need you.
`Harry' and `humility', two words which seldom, if ever, appear in the same sentence.

We don't know when the wedding is taking place, the DM was wondering, as a lot of people will be, if H and the wife would be invited. They mentioned a former royal butler who believes that Harry will be in attendance. This is pure conjecture and they haven't 'invited' H and the shrew. Whether the RF will is another story. Presumably, H will be too worried about security anyway.

This story about the book that just came out about Andrew makes him look to be a worse POS than Hairy. I kept wondering why he was the Queen's favourite if he is such a horrible human being in all ways - to his family, to his friends and lovers and to the staff. What was wrong with the Queen to even think that this kind of behaviour shoudl be rewarded? Hairy looks an angel in comparison.
Maneki, I see me trying to be sarcastic was a miss. What I meant is that when every journalist in the world constantly tell us what the members of the Royal Family truly think, believe or want it must be extremely exhausting to them while in truth NOBODY outside their intimate family can know anything. It is just a guessing game and very often a sick or at worst a cruel game. To be a pawn in an "information" game without possibility to say "you are lying!" or "on the contrary" must be very corrosive to one's soul.

That is what I meant.

Wow, I just finished reading today`s excerpt of the new book about Andrew. This one was about Fergie and her spending habits. Boy, I think she puts * to shame. She employed a maid, a butler, a cook, a chauffeur, a dresser, an assitant, and dog walkers, etc All this for someone who doesn`t have a source of income.
I don't know if this is the famous kraken but Lady Colin Campbell (the baroness is wailing on the floor, literally) and Mike Zeroh (the baroness has lost all Netflix money after she in her hysterics made a taunting and mocking video of Netflix bosses Sarandos and Peters) both tell us that the reality is hitting hard on our hero and heroine.

No doubt the next step is continuous stories in quality tabloids (is that an oxymoron?) about Spare II and "MY STORY: The Soul Destroying Violence I Suffered During MY Horrifying Time in Britain Told By MYSELF With MY Own Words To You That You Will Understand What They Forced ME To Live Through Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh......"

And then there will be the lawsuits maybe this time even from the British Royal Family when the baroness can't help herself when "sugar coating" her book with her "truths" what have nothing to do with anybody's or everybody's lived reality.

We do live in interesting times.

A reminder of an early set of `fibs', nay, downright pack of lies from *:
We've just had a weekend in London, staying near High St. Kensington, close to KP, and found ourselves in Whole Foods. Those outrageous allegations she made about being mobbed in that emporium flooded back. Do you remember, it was about the time the engagement was announced?

There was still no sign of any publications at or near the checkout, let alone trash mags with her face on the cover. Such items, I imagine, would be at odds with their values. It's also hardly the sort of place where folk would shout at, or after, her, it's hardly Albert Square! For example, there's a dearth of traditional pubs like the `Queen Vic' (aka `London Boozers') as many (most?) residents are grandees, doubtless with accounts at the wine merchants their families have dealt with for generations.)
I recall someone here did call her out, on the basis if local knowledge, but was ignored outside our circle..

References to Peter Phillips's second marriage as a `royal wedding' are right off the mark. Strictly speaking, PP is the son of Captain and Mrs Phillips and is, like him, a commoner. Typical of badly informed journos but a reminder that both their credentials and sources are suspect.
So the baroness is attacking Netflix and she seems to believe that the firm functions under same policy as the Royal Family? Netflix is probably going to both complain AND explain very loudly in a court of law when they loose patience with her.

Whip smart intelligence in action.

(Youtuber Mike Zeroh)

`As-ever-ance pay' - that's brilliant.

He wasn't fired. Wasn't declared redundant and paid of. Nobody gave him a brilliant reference so he'd get another job, with better T&Cs, so he could fail in a different organisation.
No, he resigned/ quit/ walked out/ broke his contract, even got a `small' Golden Goodbye, apparently, but it was his own doing.
He still can't understand what he's done. To say he has `learning difficulties' seems a huge understatement although the words we would once have used to describe his lack of intellectual ability are now considered taboo.

'Diva Duchess' Snubbed By A-List Pals On 44th Birthday — Including Tyler Perry, Beyonce, Prince William and Kate Middleton

Meghan Markle was ruthlessly snubbed by former A-list friends and royal family members as she was accused of writing a gushing 44th birthday tribute to herself on Monday, August 4, RadarOnline.com can reveal.

Markle formerly scored public shout-outs from the likes of Beyoncé and Tyler Perry on her birthdays after stepping down from the royal family in 2020. Those well-wishes have dried up along with her celebrity friend circle as "Duchess Difficult" has been surrounded by negative press for most of 2025.'

It couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

“She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her!

“Happy Birthday to our founder.”' She/her business wished herself a happy birthday. I wonder if she ever reflects on what might have been, had she played her cards right.

I watched the whole of my recording of the Channel 5 documentary as a distraction from a sleepless night. (BT, the `palace insider' was a former press sec to QEII.)
The prog. began by not pulling its punches and made quite a point about how the US press hadn't dealt kindly with them, even Vanity Fair had changed its tune, it seems. The mood softened at the end though and they trotted out all the customary platitudes about reconciliation. At least they did ask how the family could ever trust him again.

Two curious things I noticed about H:

- despite being on the receiving end of just about the most expensive education available in the UK, he still doesn't know when to say `I' and when `me'. This tends to be an affectation of people who have had a less than rigorous school experience, as they're afraid of saying `me' even when it's correct. It's like saying `H' as `haitch' rather then `aitch'. (BTW I was a council-school kid all the way through but was very lucky in the schools I attended.)

- in the sequences of his diatribe to the BBC following him losing his case, his lower lip was set in a rigid horizontal line which just went up and down as he spoke, like the mouth of a marionnette. I've heard Mancunians described as having `mouths like letterboxes' (something about how the mouth is set in relation to the accent produced) but H doesn't come from Manchester, What did it signify her, intense anger or something beyond that?
A powerful post and comments here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SaintMeghanMarkle/comments/1mm415g/invictus_commentary/

Also, I forgot to say that Channel 5 gave H the sole credit for Invictus - they still fell short of complete reconstruction.

This whole Sentabale thing has got me confused. For example, I read that Dr Chandauka was charging the charity for her services, to the tune of several thousand pounds a day. I don't know if that was as part of her duties on the board of the charity, or as part of her fundraising efforts.
I can understand that she didn't want to continue funding the charity via polo games, etc because that wasn't a very large source of money.
I don;t mean to excuse Hairy and his contribution, this woman also doesn't seem to be guiltless in the Sentabale fiasco.

'Hypercorrection is the nonstandard use of language that results from the overapplication of a perceived rule of language-usage prescription.'
'The attempt to be "correct" leads to an incorrect result' according to linguists Otto Jespersen and Robert J Jenner. I find this hypercorrection irritating...
@Maneki Neko - yes, trying to be correct but overdoing it, a misperceived rule stemming from an inability to grasp the difference between subject & object of a sentence in the case of `I' and `me'. Trying to explain `haitch' defeats me though. I'm glad to know there's a word for it.

BTW can you explain why things are now `outside of' instead of just `outside'? I was sharply corrected in primary school for saying that I had `fallen off of' something, so where's the difference?

There just hasn't been a lot from really either of them together or individually lately, has there? But why? Have they blown all their bridges, connections and are down to toss the proverbial kitchen sink for attention? I don't know.  We've heard that moving vans showed up at the house.  And nothing more like pictures from a neighbor happy to see the back of them. We've heard they bought a house on Portugal.   But the wording was kind of funny.  Multiple sources of the same thing - yes but that isn't a guarantee of proof as it could all be from the same source.  It was more along the lines of "We've been told that...".  It came off as a we really don't know if we believe this to be true or not so we are putting it out there but hedging our bets.  Or at least it did to me. And nothing more like exactly when, where or for how much or when they might visit it again.  Or pictures of the awesome inside.  Or outside.  Or requisite ...

As Time Passes and We Get Older

Such drama.  You would think this was a soap opera where every episode ends with a crazy cliff hanger story plot to drive the next installment.  Sadly, I don't expect it to change any time soon either.  No.  For them, there appears to be way too much energy left in the will they, won't they to end it now even though everyone else is pretty much tired of it.  Hardly something one can point to and claim that they are trying to reconcile with those who feel distressed about what was printed. Just noticed something: remember that talk of trying to reach out and reconcile after the book, etc.?  It seems to have drifted away, hasn't it?  Hmm.  Interesting.  I wonder if that is recognized as a total lost cause or just delayed into the summer (or fall) campaign (c...
