Open Post: Three Years Going On Four of the Sussexes

Instead of the traditional leather gifts on the Sussexes' 3rd Anniversary, we got an announcement for plans of an Indian Community Relief Center after hearing Princess Beatrice's baby announcement.

You too? IBS is a literal pain, isn't it. I'm glad somebody understands about the vegetables. Yep, I take vitamins, too.

Please do join us at the River Club. He's such a sweetie. I found an early episode where he says he loves Lady C, and he kind of adopted her style. I can see it.

One of my ex-bf's ended up in the clutches of a master manipulatrix after we broke up. She drove him to bankruptcy. Although he did tend to have addictive traits, she fully played on them to get everything she wanted out of him.

One of her tactics was to pretend to commit suicide in the early stages of the relationship.

It's interesting that a man who insisted that I pay for my fair share of everything, ended up in the role of saviour and knight in shining armour when it came to her.

She really knew how to play on men's weakesses.

Your stories about crab and lobster sound delightful. I adore seafood. I'll have to remember Staithes if we're in the vicinity. Whitby doesn't look too far and is a place we might visit for a staycation.

SwampWoman,

If I do anything this week it will be to buy a rotisserie chicken and the steamed frozen veggie packs. Great suggestion and so simple! (I’m over the whole cooking thing LOL). I went full keto last summer and failed after 7 weeks, once I hit the beach with a pina colada in hand. Oops.
:D

I hear you about the keto. I cooked too much rice and 'taters (comfort food) during the height of the virus and now I need to ditch the resultant weight gain. While I still have lots of rice and such in storage, the frozen veggies and rotisserie chicken is just so quick and easy that I'm not even getting out the Instant Pot! Hopefully that keto-ish diet, along with the incredibly hot and humid summer, will help me lose the COVID pounds.

Husband is 4 hours north caring for his ill mother after his father's death while I stay here looking after grandson and the home place, at least until the fall. I'm taking a break from cooking three meals a day while I can! After grandson enters school, I'll need to pack up and move north. I have three months to lose the weight!

I offer my belated condolences on the passing of your father-in-law. I searched last week for your post mentioning it and couldn't find it. @mom mobile,

I've never heard Lady C so angry and literally yelling at 6's wife through the TV about her fake suicidal ideation. Lady C says she was once suicidal herself and has friends who have committed suicide, and that what MM (and Harry) is doing is an outrage and dangerous to others who may be suicidal.

Yay for Lady C. She really put (MM and Harry) in her place. I can't agree with her more.

I'm back, v. quickly, have slept most of the time since I last was here!

Lady C video - seems to me that the sound was out of synch with the picture.

Have you seen this:

William's visit to the retirement home was a joy- DH was thrilled to see the Luca's van, he loved their ice cream when he was lad. He'd win swimming races across the local harbour, then take the silver cup into their local parlour and they'd fill it with ice cream as a further prize!

@Snarkyatherbest,

Some of the lines in the article about the side by side photos of “Archie” and little Megs were saying things like (paraphrasing here) “fans say Archie used to look like Harry and now he looks more like Meghan and seems to change every day and fans think he will look like them both as he gets older.”

To me, that is a snarky hint or clue from the DM, whose photo editors certainly can tell when celeb babies keep looking different, bigger, smaller, dark haired, red haired tall and tiny in the photos they are being seen by PR. I mean, the Cambridge kids have looked like themselves since day one even as they aged up. The DM knows.

Since the Oprah interview aired, my whole perspective regarding the spare and his spouse has shifted. It would seem that I’m not alone in my thought process as more and more media outlets start reporting similar stances. Just recently, there was an article suggesting Harry didn’t change; but rather, he is only finally revealing his true self. The more I think about it all, the more I’ve come to the realization #6 is the real culprit behind everything.

Meghan is doing Reiki touching therapy on Archie - and HERSELF - to feel 'balanced and relaxed,' friends reveal, and taught Harry about 'ancestral healing' that he claims will break the cycle of 'genetic pain and suffering'

*Harry, 36, appeared on Dax Shepard's podcast and described the 'genetic pain' of being a royal, saying Charles had 'suffered' and he had done the same to him

*Harry spoke about mental health and seeking therapy after advice from Meghan Markle who saw he was 'angry'

*A source with close ties to Meghan tells DailyMail.com that she introduced Harry to the term 'ancestral healing'

*Meghan learned about generational trauma from her mom Doria Ragland, according to the source

*'Meghan said both she and Harry come from a long lineage of pain and suffering, generations of genetic baggage and that it's now up to them to break the cycle once and for all,' they added

*They went on to say that Meghan is a big advocate of tapping therapy and does Reiki on herself, Archie and her dogs
~~~~~~~~~
🤪🙄 So as many of us suspected, Doria has practised her own brand of psychobabble, sorry, psychotherapy, on Harry? 🤪🙄🤪🙄🤪🙄
As usual, I only gave it a cursory glance, that's all I wanted to read. In the DM if anyone is interested...
Another thought:
Harry’s wife was so upset about not getting any acknowledgement from the RF for their wedding anniversary that she had to commission an article in Elle.
What will she do for an encore, when the `baby’ is `born’ and ` No Contact’ is still being observed?
Ohhh, so now we know how she is keeping him trapped and going downhill so quickly. would this fall under practicing without a license, or is she using Doria as the "psychologist?" I'm betting that a bit of hypnosis is involved, too. H is completely under her spell.
Two other names for "tapping therapy" are "psychological acupressure " and emotional therapy technique."
*******************************
"Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. It's also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure. People who use this technique believe tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system and treat pain."
Sounds like a lot of new age bunk to me. She's obviously got him off of his meds.
Maneki- Great article about Candace Owens saying Harry is in an abusive relationship. HE IS.
Hopefully more articles will be written with that tone and her public career will be done. I've said before though, they both will receive a bit of public goodwill when Diana Doria Mountbatten-Windsor is born. The public is curious overall about how royal children look. That's why Wills and Kate show pictures of their kids and how they look. Then people aren't as curious, don't have to guess, are less obsessed. But lets face it, H&M want people to be obsessed. At least Meghan does. I'm sure she echoes any statements that Harry says about wanting privacy for the kids, for Harry's benefit.
I keep wondering if Harry sees ANY of these articles, videos etc. I have the weird feeling Megs and Doria, as his mental caretakers and controlling gatekeepers so to speak, have blocked Harry’s outside world access by telling him he was too abused and he can only heal his suffering by listening to them or letting them filter what he is allowed to read or know or watch. Cult.
Because otherwise.....the penny has to drop at some point? Maybe not, he’s an idiot.
Isn't a long-running theory on here that Meghan is desperately trying to please Doria?
Meghan 'trapped' Harry and now Doria does the dirty work of healing Diana 2.0 (harry)
Meghan learned about generational trauma from her mom Doria Ragland, according to the source
They went on to say that Meghan is a big advocate of tapping therapy and does Reiki on herself, Archie and her dogs
PS I like how this family is admitting how screwed up they are genetically and emotionally. It's very funny. I guess they don't have real problems.
'Meghan said both she and Harry come from a long lineage of pain and suffering, generations of genetic baggage and that it's now up to them to break the cycle once and for all.'
Discipline and boundaries is all they need. Instead, we have raging Narcissists who want to be seen as superior to William, Kate, and the Globe. Of course, as will all narcs, the issue isn't with themselves- it's with their ancestors. Also, we could take them deflecting to Doria, since Harry suffered so much negative publicity for 'genetic pain'. Meghan's attempts to rewrite reality is stunning.
I had a disturbing dream about Harry and Archie last night that was inspired, I believe, by the story on the jewel theft at Arundel Castle this week. I was seated at a banquet table in a very old building on the top of a hill when a grotesquely disfigured Harry ran in, pushing a stroller with Archie in it. Archie looked like an overweight, manic identical twin of Alfred E. Newman (complete with fat cheeks, freckles, a lot of bright red hair, and a fiendish grin). It was disturbing even though hankfully I woke up as soon as they made their entrance. Weird.
I’d been thinking earlier about H and how the world had been suckered by the RF into believing he was a lovable, standup guy—the opposite of what he really is. All that effort expended over the years to clean up his messes before they became public and disguise the fact that he was (as my dying mother had described my stepfather, to whom she was still married) “a shit with training.”
Those are two different kids., minimum.
@JennS,
Of course they got away with it — disgusting. Once again their “stature” helps them out. I would however like to know like a little mouse if the “legal bills” for starting and closing the foundation drifted into any other kinds of legal attack bills (ANL, paps). The Republic Group needed to be braver I their pursuit but yes, probably feared being sued by the Harkles, both highly litigious people.
@Shimmerclaw,
I too think that child is much too big for a two year old. The entire swing imagery is flaky.
“So which is Markle’s dominant hand? Trick question: it’s neither! Or perhaps you might say it’s both of them? In either case, royal watchers have noticed Markle doing any number of things, according to The Sun. This means she possesses a rather uncommon trait called ambidextry.” — CheatSheet.com
Reiki is alternative medicine, namely Japanese. It's traditions just aren't as old as say Indian Ayurveda or Chinese Acupuncture. I knew someone who was studying to become a Reiki Master. Typically you lay down while the Reiki master holds their hands above you, palms facing your body sensing your energies and trying to fix and redirect any energy flow problems they sense in you.
@AnT.... oh good grief. Another of her wondrous capabilities.
Interestingly it doesn't appear that she really is ambidextrous.
Ambidextrous is when you can use both hands equally well, which is not what she does.
She does some things right-handed, and some things left handed. But she doesn't do anything with both hands, it appears.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/6941089/meghan-markle-one-per-cent-rare-skill/
For example, she typically waves, writes and holds her handbag in her right hand.
However, when it comes to eating, drinking and playing the guitar, she opts for her left hand.
So if she is saying that she can write equally well with either her right hand or her left hand, I say prove it.
Let's see some of that wonderful faux calligraphy using both hands.
$10 so she can't do it.
I told husband before he went in to get an operation on his right hand that would require that it be in a cast for 4 to 6 weeks that he better start practicing eating left handed, among other things. He thought I was being silly until he couldn't get food on his fork (grin) or cut his food.
There are probably a lot of us that have found ourselves with an arm or hand out of commission that are able to be somewhat competent with either hand. I can write with my left hand but not as well as with my right, because I didn't practice those small muscle movements enough over time. My signature is legible, but barely.
I've often idly wondered whether playing an instrument such as a piano makes a person more ambidextrous.
@swampwoman,
My father took piano lessons from age five to shortly before he died at age 57. He was ambidextrous.
Most of my family play(ed) some sort of musical instrument. For example, my mother played the violin, and she wasn't ambidextrous. No other family members were, even those who took piano lessons for years.
My Granddad paid his way through college playing banjo in a dance band in the 1920s, and I still have his banjo. He got married to my grandmother, who was an old money daughter of one of the founders of a city in Washington State. How did they meet? I will never know.
In those days you had to have a "password" to get into the best and most exciting places.
You will have to pry my hands off my Granddad's banjo :)
@Lt. Uhura,
That is so cool about your grandfather and the banjo! Now I'm trying to figure out what city was founded by your grandmother. I grew up in WA. My grandparents may have known your grandmother, as they were founders of several things, but I can't name them as that would tell who I am.
Wouldn't that be so cool if our grandparents knew each other?
Harry's 'slip of the tongue' on podcast 'shows disconnect' with Meghan's claim to Oprah
'Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey that she was not allowed to seek therapy by the Royal Family. But Prince Harry, in his latest podcast interview, said he did have it on the advice of Meghan.
Prince Harry made a "slip of the tongue" by saying that it was Meghan Markle that pushed him into having therapy on a recent podcast appearance, a TV host has claimed.
The Duke of Sussex told Dax Shepard’s podcast on May 13 that he sought therapy due to his struggles as a working royal and that it was Meghan who encouraged him to seek professional help.
But in her interview with Oprah in March, Meghan claimed she herself was refused help.
“I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help," she said.
“I said, ‘I’ve never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere’.
“And I was told that I couldn't, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution."
This was questioned by Mr Bolt on Sky News Australia.
"Didn't she say in her notorious interview with Oprah Winfrey that when she wanted to go see a therapist herself Buckingham Palace refused her permission?" he asked.
"Prince Harry, the actual prince could get therapy but his wife could not?"
Royal commentator Daisy Cousens agreed, adding: "It is pretty extraordinary, I didn't actually pick that up until you mentioned it.
"That is very well spotted because there is a giant disconnect there between the two stories. Quite a slip of the tongue from Harry.
Right- or left-handed?
If it's a still photo being used as evidence, it depends on whether it's been reversed. Can video be `flipped? Her face changes so much we probably wouldn't notice if it was the wrong way round.
I've never heard such tripe as her claim that she wasn't permitted to get therapy, although if she were aware of being genuinely unbalanced she might have been afraid of being sectioned and incarcerated. The idea that she has enough self awareness for that is, of course, hypothetical.
And when has she ever need permission to do anything?
-----
I suspect she dabbles in quite a few things that aren't consistent with her membership of the Church - are we still allowed to speak of Black Magic? I once had a job in an area known for its witches but colleagues were at pains to point out that they were all White ones, so that was OK. Also in another job, I shared an office with a self-proclaimed witch/pagan.
It's a funny old world.
My phone drives me mad because if it's on "selfie mode" (ie switches to the camera on the "screen side") everything is flipped like you're looking in a mirror (had a right job trying to get a non-reversed photo of my eye to send to the doc the other week, had to get hubby to take it for me in the end) - this "feature" of the selfie camera also includes video, I've just checked. I haven't seen the video being discussed, but could it have been filmed in "selfie mode" on a phone?
Ah, thanks for the info. I met an aunt, my dad's sister, years ago only one time (she is deceased). It was the only contact I've ever had with my paternal family. The first words out of her mouth were "And which instruments do you play?" because they were a very musical family. I don't play *anything* and have a voice suited to listening. Our son can play anything with strings, so the talent undoubtedly skipped a generation. (His kids are not at all musical.)
How is it he failed his wife so miserably, she didn’t even understand basic UK custom, laws, or protocols? Why might you ask?
Simply put, Harry is so much like his mother, all he knows is how to play the victim narrative while using the link to the Royal family as a nonstop ATM machine. I suspect if she ever asked HR anything, she asked about going to an "inpatient" spa-like quasi-mental health setting, not a hospital. It's not as common now but for awhile whenever someone in Hollywood would get in trouble (for anything-- drunk driving, drugs, DV, assault) it was time for a stint in a luxury "rehab."
@JennS,
Going to Human Resources, indeed. Because she who hid her doctors and hospital and bump from the entire palace, and has no money for private Harley street care, even though Harry “created” mental health in the UK, went to HR about this. It’s all just her taking the piss on the RF and the world. The HR people probably rolled their eyes if it happened, knowing what she was doing happily all the rest of the time. A senior gray man would have handled it through the husband, Charles, the Queen, private care. She is using “her truth” again.
@Snarkyatherbest,
Absolutely nothing stopping him from sending his own statement to the press the last couple of months. The DM etc would have it published so fast the London breeze would have increased tenfold.
There are MANY renowned hospitals in and near Kensington Palace, within a walk. Meghan could have easily walked to any hospital.
What likely happened, is Meghan had a discussion with HR and PR about the optics of her going to a hospital and they advised a doctor come to the Palace. Why didn’t she do that? Whatever the case, she did not follow up her serious life threatening issues with any treatment whatsoever here nor there, so whatever.
Another key thing to remember is that she did not have HR and did not work for the institution. So if they simply said at HR, ‘sorry you are not under our remit’ like they should have, then Mrs Whip Smart needed to go take care of herself, as she always had. Thomas made a good point saying her plight meant her husband wasn’t taking care of her. Perhaps this is her Crazy Harry Big Divorce $$$ narrative.
Why don’t both of these grown adults make decisions for themselves? ‘Meghan told me to get therapy’ ‘the HR said I couldn’t do anything’ IMO they are taking the absolute piss of their audience lol.
Funny, she made it to SmartWorks, British Vogue, to Edward Enninful’s little photo session with hats and hosted friends and decorators at the emerging Frogmore Cottage. She has Soho House connections like Markus, and friends in London like Lindsay Jill Roth of the Wimbledon clear-the-seats thing. She has a management team in LA, with money and, one assumes, telephones.
She has Misha Nonoo and Messica who could send a Town Car if Megs had no money.
Amal Clooney, human rights bestie who organized the baby shower in NYC even though they took Meghan’s passport (funny that) could have sent a car to whisk her off as well. Oh, so odd how tough feminist hero independent woman Megs can get money and sue the world but flaps helplessly at getting a car to take her to one appointment.
Where was her best pal Eugenie in all this, who has a car and whose parents have cars too?
It. Is. All. A. Lie.
JennS, good points
As myself a fellow HG sufferer, perhaps she should have called Catherine who suffered from HG and got a referral from her. Another thing I considered is that Meghan couldn’t bond with the pregnancy normally and her elevated estrogen/prolactin etc levels is what made her feel out of control and thus, dramatically, suicidal.
That could be true but only IF she was really carrying something more than a pillow. And if her suicidal feelings were induced by pregnancy hormones why not tell that as part of the story? It would make the tale even more tragic and probably more believable. Apparently, she didn't think of that idea!🤣
Another clue against her story....she claims they were up the night before crying over her potential suicide and yet she still attended that function the next day claiming she forced herself to. If you are THAT depressed that you want to end your life, you DO NOT want to put on makeup, get all glammed up, and go to a function where you have to interact with people and you will also be filmed!!!
-------------------------------------
I found out my ex-husband was cheating while I pregnant. Within a week I asked him to leave. Almost immediately I slid into a depression (never suicidal) a depression of non existance where I didn't want to leave bed, take showers, eat, and crying almost non-stop.
For me I knew it was the end of my marriage, but at all times I never felt suicidal. I was carrying my baby and I suppose my maternal instinct kicked in. The week after I threw my ex out I had my scheduled one month appointment with my OB.
I was 5 months pregnant (just like MM) and my doctor knew something was wrong immediately. I had dropped 10 lbs in that month, more likely in that week of my own trauma.
Going forward from that appointment he changed how often I came into his office and also scheduled one of his nurse's to come to my home twice weekly to check on me. My doctor cared more about me than I did about myself during this whole time.
Doctor arranged an appointment for me with a psychatrist also. It was my OB that saved my life and my child's life when I needed it the most.
I had a great support system with my BFF's who also dropped in nearly everyday.
I can tell you from my own nightmare there is no way MM wouldn't have immediately contacted her own OB and he/she would have done everything within their power to help her and her unborn child.
I also wouldn't have been dressing up to go to any event on the day I found myself so depressed I couldn't function. NO WAY!!!!
Her story is like a piece of swiss cheese with a hundred holes in it. She was most definitely reading the Diana playbook and playing with H's head. Very cruel IMO. We haven't heard what her plan actually was, we haven't heard she finally found the help she so desperately needed. She's playing a game and I don't buy any of it. What a dangerous woman she is.
Sick, disgusting human being.
I'm not completely convinced that she spent a lot of time at HR trying to get help.
If she showed up, my guess is that the front desk would have immediately passed her on to upper level HR staff (while thinking: this is above my paygrade for whatever is going down).
An alternative possibility is that she showed up, asked a question or two and left when she was asked to speak to someone of higher rank. HR may not have been able to do any follow up.
There was talk of how William went to his brother with suggestions of seeking help so they would already had difficult conversations = nothing new. and I seem to remember that after his mother's death, there was some help to both kids.
Being around the Heads UP, 6 would have had access to names of people from meetings whom he could have called for help even done quietly. He had staff who would have those names from notes taken at meetings.
If she had done in-patient, there is a technical chance that if she was not pregnant (I happen to be team pillow) that it would have been discovered.
If she showed up at some random hospital, there is a technical chance a false pregnancy would be discovered there as well.
It does not make any more sense that the palace/BRF was trying to keep her from getting help any more than they failed to supply her with people to help her try to succeed at navigating the new life. There were lots of people who tried to offer help but were refused so ... it appears to be a similar pattern.
On the other hand, if an appearance at HR was timed to complaints, then ... it could be a testing of the waters for information, bid for sympathy which might explain away any harsh word and HR cannot say anything (legally).
Who asks their IN-LAWS for help when they are suicidal? Why on earth would H even consider having to contact his family when he states he was in therapy at this time and wouldn't have contact his own therapist for help?
The second MM opened her mouth claiming suicidal ideation I knew she was lying. My immediate thought was B*tch you don't know what depression and suicide feels like. Shes full of sh*t.
I absolutely think this all came out to outrun the bullying charges against Megs, —- with the added bonus of trying to get their removed royal allowance back by pretending Megs was a horrible bullying person only because she was so depressed outside of the Vogue and Soho hallways.
What a heavy weight of lies to carry around, could almost make one paranoid about who knows what. That paranoia could lead to more lies no Reiki Master could.
No so sure about not making a wife dress up and go the circus...
I was once an army wife and have a friend was a naval wife - we both had the experience of being more or less frogmarched to some do or other by our not-so-dear husbands when we were clearly ill, because they saw the event as a compulsory parade.
I almost disgraced myself at one dinner, partly from self-medication (OD-ing?)on Fishermens' Friends, for cough, sore throat and 'flu, together with a large volume of Lutomer Riesling (cheap Yugoslav wine) out of anger and resentment, with a 70 mile train journey to get there (2 changes of train), on top of worrying about a dear friend who'd just had a brain bleed.
I managed to last through the dinner but threw up horribly on the way home. I haven't touched Fishermens' Friends since.
I assume she had a smart phone? If she was hoping for a rest cure at the Priory, she could easily have contacted them. It's where all the rich folk go. They'll even consult over the phone. Unless of course she feared them weaning her off her other pharmaceuticals as well?
It wouldn't be beyond her to find a way of contacting them if she thought her phone calls were being monitored.
Samantha said this was how Meghan, who they all adored, was approached and treated with everything. She was spoilt. Samantha said looking back, it’s obviously damaged Meghan, but at the time due to Meghan being the baby of the family they were all doting on her, not really ‘raising’ her.
@JennS,
Found it!
I could go either way but you are probably right. It's hard to tell not only because of M's usual vagueness re: facts and timelines, but also Oprah is awful. It's not just that she doesn't follow up or even clarify what M is saying as any minimally competent interviewer should. But her stupid interjections of whoo, wow, whoa interrupt M and mess up whatever little coherence her account otherwise would have had.
But it sounds like M is claiming she first went to a "senior" person (whatever that means) and that person said it wouldn't be good for the institution for her to "go somewhere." Then, having been in a union (I guess she finally was after lying about membership) she went to HR and was told we can't help you go somewhere because you aren't an employee. But yes, it's awful for you because of the mean stories in the press.
I do agree this all likely related to the bullying and she was building a defense. And she was likely manipulating Harry. But overall it's BS.
Given what we saw M doing from January-March 2019, I do not believe she was suicidal. I do not believe she was seeking real mental health treatment. If she was pregnant, I do not believe her OB team simply missed that their royal patient was suicidally depressed. She's not that good of an actress. And there are physical signs of depression.. (While M's personal hygiene didn't appear to be the best, that was nothing new.)
If she was faking the pregnancy, no way she'd want to go anywhere near "help" that could involve a physician of any sort. And while I don't know how things work in the UK, in the US I cannot imagine true **inpatient*" mental health treatment happening with NO physician involvement (especially for a pregnant woman!)
It's possible she was campaigning for a leave of absence. While I'm sure she could have started her maternity leave much earlier than she did, I expect she may have also wanted to leave the UK to "rest" and maybe go to a new-age "spa" (all $$$$$ expenses paid, of course) and maybe even "give birth" elsewhere. Maybe a Finding Freedom Part 1. I can imagine THAT not being seen as "good for the institution." But whatever happened, we haven't been told anywhere near the objective truth.
I wondered if Harry is a case of galloping Oedipus Complex - Wikipedia gives a reasonable run-down. Here's the Intro:
Oedipus complex
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Oedipus complex (also spelled Œdipus complex) is a concept of psychoanalytic theory.
Sigmund Freud introduced the concept in his Interpretation of Dreams (1899) and coined the expression in his A Special Type of Choice of Object made by Men (1910).[1][2] The positive Oedipus complex refers to a child's unconscious sexual desire for the opposite-sex parent and hatred for the same-sex parent. The negative Oedipus complex refers to a child's unconscious sexual desire for the same-sex parent and hatred for the opposite-sex parent.
[2][3][4] Freud considered that the child's identification with the same-sex parent is the successful outcome of the complex and that unsuccessful outcome of the complex might lead to neurosis, and pedophilia.[not verified in body]
Freud rejected the term "Electra complex",[5] which was introduced by Carl Gustav Jung in 1913 in his work, Theory of Psychoanalysis[6] in regard to the Oedipus complex manifested in young girls.[5]
Freud further proposed that the Oedipus complex, which originally refers to the sexual desire of a son for his mother, is a desire for the parent in both males and females, and that boys and girls experience the complex differently: boys in a form of castration anxiety, girls in a form of penis envy.[7]
How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?
“Your truth”. That phrase slipped off Oprah’s tongue with such ease during her interview with Meghan and Harry. But on this apparently simple construction hangs a question that has divided us with an explosion of animosity: how many truths can there be?
With the new world once again pitted against the old, I find myself reminded of the words of another Royal confidante, those of Polonius in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. “To thine own self be true,” he advised his son. This sentiment seems to encapsulate so much of what is philosophically at stake in this interview, with the Prince and the Princess expressing “their truth”, a truth that was as much a function of the need to be true to who they are, as it was a reference to objective reality.
Put aside for one moment the on-going debate about their claims concerning Royal racism, for it seems to me that there is a troubling tension between two meanings of truth going on here: being true to yourself, something we have come to call authenticity, and truth as an empirical statement of fact.
The former was largely conceived by Rousseau and is often known as “expressivism” — the idea that, as the philosopher Charles Taylor describes in his magisterial Sources of the Self, “the moral or spiritual order of things must come to us indexed to a personal vision.” And this is where we divide. For some their “personal vision” is a hallmark of truth; for others it is very much a reason to be suspicious of it.
Here, too, it’s worth returning to Hamlet — not least because it is impossible not to be struck by the parallels between its title character and Prince Harry. For Freud, Hamlet represented an archetypal example of the Oedipus complex: a kind of childhood compulsion where a son develops an unconscious sexual desire for his mother and a sense of rivalry with his father.
Joseph Schwartz, in his definitive history of psychoanalysis, Cassandra’s Daughter, sees this “sexualisation of the mother-son relationship” as “part of the dynamic of the Victorian patriarchal family”. He continues:
“This family romance is dominated by an absent authoritarian father who, arriving home, asserts his own needs over his children’s by making overt or covert sexual demands on his wife. The wife, resentful of abandonment by her husband and of his authoritarian attitudes, lavishes attention on her son. And the son, perceiving rivalry for the mother’s affections expressed in sexual terms, responds in kind.”
It is hard to read these words and not be reminded of the relationship between Charles and Diana, a woman “resentful of abandonment by her husband and of his authoritarian attitudes [who] lavished attention on her son”.
MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR
Prince Harry is a Freudian dream
BY GILES FRASER
If Freud has taught us anything, it is that we may not always be the best judges of who we really are, let alone what really drives us. That is the very point of the unconscious; we are run by forces that we do not always properly understand, which are often repressed, working away in the background without us being fully aware of them. And if this is the case, then the problem with “my truth” is not just that it can fail to describe objective reality, but — and this is crucial — that it may fail, just as much, to describe subjective reality too.
That is not to say whether we should or should not believe Meghan or Harry. Instead, Freud’s work simply demonstrates that phrases such as “my truth” are not always helpful, either objectively and subjectively. It presumes too quickly that there is little more to inner truth than simply what you feel. But as the psychoanalytic experience so often demonstrates, “my truth” also requires a kind of discipled critical vigilance — the sort of push-back provided by a skilled analyst.
All of us are complex creatures; we are often a mystery, even to ourselves. And being at the intersection of Royalty and celebrity no doubt makes one’s life confusing in ways that are unimaginable to most of us, especially given that both are objects of considerable projection. It cannot be a coincidence that the stories that Freud most associated with the Oedipus complex — Oedipus Rex and Hamlet — are stories about princes.
None of this would matter so much were it not for the fact that the “truth” expressed to Oprah has the capacity to undermine one of the constitutional foundations of this country. It is one thing to sit on a couch in front of a therapist and work out your issues in private. I have done so myself and recommend it.
It is quite another to sit in front of millions of people, giving a half-interview, half-therapy session conducted by an unchallenging friend and neighbour, and for others to take this on face value. The stakes are far too high to allow “my truth” to go unchallenged. At the end of Hamlet, most of the protagonists lie dead; the court in ruins. “To thine own self be true” may have a nice ring to it. But it remains very poor advice.
The Apple interview... doesn’t make the Sussexs look better either. They still look like kids having a tantrum after their Bank of Dad Credit line was declined. Oprah is really not a good interviewer as others have pointed out. We live in 2021, not 1990, information is literally at your fingertips. People are more aware of misinformation in the internet and are skeptical of MSM narratives in general.
Nothing says feeling suicidal like demanding a spa/health resort stay! Yoga, energy centering, hot stones and a massage will totally remove deep-seated depression, am I right?
If that worked, there would be prescriptions for depressed people with suicidal ideations to go to a spa in a bucolic setting that offers, say, goat yoga followed by a hot tub soak, a massage, and a nice luncheon with your fellow suicidally depressed people. You could talk about how goat yoga, hot tubbing with strangers and a nice lunch makes you really want to live and insurance would have to pay for it. How strange that they do not. After all, a day (or a week) at the spa would be far less expensive than months to years of antidepressants. It is almost as though such a thing could be considered malpractice.
It's ironic M made out that she was a helpless little prisoner behind grey palace walls, when no one but no one marrying into the Royal Family has ever created and maintained a PR and commercial empire of their own at the same time, as she has done. Hell she was operating in multiple time zones 24 hours a day. Strategems galore. And she's telling us she couldn't just pick up the phone and get professional help in the same city? Or couldn't ask her husband who's been in therapy for years?
We know she told him because she totally spooked him by informing him of her detailed suicide plans while simultaneously saying she wouldn't do it. She didn't tell her royal relatives yet they are comprehensively blamed. There are so many holes in their interviews yet no one is picking them up on it in person. It's totally enraging. If I was Oprah, hearing M went to HR, I would innocently ask 'What made you choose HR, when you were not an employee?' The interview would be instantly terminated of course but if you had the right contract you could still show it and it would cause a far bigger sensation than the one they got. And satisfy far more people too!
I was stunned by the closing part of Lady C's latest video. She pretty much lost it. And I don't blame her. I left a comment on there, thanking her. Also asking if the Royal Family may act more directly if they see people are actually being harmed (physically and mentally) by what the Sussexes are doing. It IS real harm. I can say that first hand. Of course what they can actually do is another question. This is a runaway train now. A disaster happening right in front of us. It would take another disaster to stop it.
O/T Thank you Swamp Woman - that's a good 'un. There are so many terrific videos out there that I'd missed this one. In addition to the igneous action, it brought back all the memories of setting out in the mountains on a thoroughly miserable day! Thanks too to all who have send their good wishes. Even so, if the wife had gone to a health spa, she'd have had to have missed out on anything that required her to undress - when I once spent a few days at a health farm there was a quick medical to start with to make sure that my BP could cope with water massages and the sauna.
Would she have posed as someone else? Of course, she'd have said she wasn't the DofS - `she's pregnant and I'm not!'
@JennS, Thanks!
M could have been asking for "traditional" inpatient treatment in a hospital. As you pointed out, that's what Oprah seemed to assume. And it's not unreasonable to think a suicidal pregnant woman might want that sort of safety net if she was the least bit concerned about protecting her baby. But I don't think that's what M wanted.
Supposedly the big suicide reveal to Harry happened in January 2019. By that point, she'd already chosen to forego using the royal OB's. And while we are never given due dates for royals, M and Harry were all over the map with verbal hints of hers. In mid-Dec at the care home, she was feeling "very pregnant." During the Christmas walk she said they were "almost there." Somewhere along the way she talked about someone she knew delivering 5 weeks early so "you never know." In Feb H said "there's a big baby in there" (yet at barely 7 lb Archie was not a big baby when born in May.) While some of that was simply to get press coverage I'm sure, I also think it was designed to obscure (coupled with the rejection of royal doctors.) I just can't see M subjecting herself to inpatient scrutiny even if she really was pregnant. And I'm not convinced she was.
I do think she wanted to "go away" somewhere but just not to a hospital. After all, the beach and avocados can cure anything! But as @WBBM pointed out on the last thread, doctors may be involved in many "health" spas too. That's quite reasonable given liability issues. So assuming she made a request (and we don't really know she did), I don't know exactly what she had in mind. But I don't think it was a traditional inpatient hospital setting or twice a week appts at KP with a psychiatrist. And I do think there are plenty of "nutty cuckoo" kinds of "retreats" that would have fit M's "new age" ideas.
I do think she may have been building a defense against bullying accusations and for victimhood. But lots more could have been going on too. We don't really know much about what they were asking to do that they were told they couldn't do. We don't know when they were told there absolutely would not be a Letters Patent making Archie a prince at birth. (Supposedly they knew earlier but I can see both H&M not taking no for an answer.) We don't know if there was blow-back when the late December/early January report came out about M's eye-popping off-the-chart clothing costs. We don't know if there were issues with demands made re: the Frog Cott renovation. While it wasn't publicly announced until very late, we don't know when they were told about the late Feb trip to Morocco. And while we've all heard what sounded like some boos at the event at the Albert Hall, we don't know if there had been some previous booing elsewhere. So there's lots we don't know.
spa treatment resort - that sounds like exactly like something the wife would do, try to get the Firm to pay for her spa / new age treatment resort as an ‘inpatient mental health hospital’. and why she would have emails to ‘prove’ the firm denied her ( SoCal Alternative medicine ) treatment.
the DM was full of pictures of the event after alleged suicidal claims when she was trying to maniupluate PH. at the event JH looks very stressed and concerned, while once again the wife looks serene, carefree and like the cat that ate the canary. poor JH, I almost feel sorry for him, but he brought this all on himself. fool
A Quiet Interlude
 Not much appears to be going on. Living Legends came and went without fanfare ... what's the next event?   Super Bowl - Sunday February 11th?  Oscar's - March 10th?   In the mean time, some things are still rolling along in various starts and stops like Samantha's law suit. Or tax season is about to begin in the US.  The IRS just never goes away.  Nor do bills (utility, cable, mortgage, food, cars, security, landscape people, cleaning people, koi person and so on).  There's always another one.  Elsewhere others just continue to glide forward without a real hint of being disrupted by some news out of California.   That would be the new King and Queen or the Prince/Princess of Wales.   Yes there are health risks which seemed to come out of nowhere.  But.  The difference is that these people are calmly living their lives with minimal drama.
As Time Passes and We Get Older
 I started thinking about how time passes when reading some of the articles about the birthday.  It was interesting to think about it from the different points of view.  Besides, it kind of fits as a follow up the last post (the whole saga of can the two brothers reunite). So there is the requisite article about how he will be getting all kinds of money willed to him from his great-grandmother.  There were stories about Princess Anne as trustee (and not allowing earliest access to it all).  Whether or not any or all of this is true (there was money for him and/or other kids) has been debated with claims she actually died owing money with the Queen paying the debts to avoid scandal.  Don't know but I seem to remember that royal estates are shrouded from the public so we may not (ever) know. However, strange things like assisting in a book after repeated denials have popped up in legal papers so nothing is ever really predicable.   We are also seein...
The Opening Act of New Adventures in Retail
 I keep thinking things will settle down to the lazy days of spring where the weather is gorgeous and there is a certain sense of peacefulness.  New flowers are coming out. increasing daylight so people can be outside/play and thinking gardening thoughts.  And life is quiet.  Calm. And then something happens like a comet shooting across the sky.  (Out of nowhere it arrives and then leaves almost as quickly.)   An update to a law suit.  Video of the website is released (but doesn't actually promote any specific product which can be purchased from the website).  A delay and then jam is given out (but to whom and possible more importantly - who did not make the list?).  Trophies almost fall (oops).  Information slips out like when the official date of beginning USA residency.  (now, isn't that interesting?) With them, it's always something in play or simmering just below the surface.  The diversity of the endeavors is really ...
